Chapter Thirty-Seven: Nadir's Advice

"Okay, so tell me what is the problem?" Nadir asked as he wiped his mouth lean of any blood or flesh. Erik sat against the cave wall as the wolves pulled the flesh off the bones of the human.

"You know you guys are supposed to save some? Once people start staying at the castle, I won't be hunting and you'll be on your own for meals." Erik pointed out. "And no, I'm not teaching Zeus to hunt for you guys." He quickly added.

"Sorry, we'll try and save up next time." Nadir sat down next to Erik. "So tell me what's wrong?" He asked again. Erik sighed and looked down at the sleeping dog whose head was resting on Erik's leg.

"I really messed up everything."

"Oh we all knew that already. You've been messing up for over 200 years now."

"Please stop reminding me of how old I really am." Erik hated when Nadir brought up how old he really was. "And I have not been messing up for that long." Nadir looked at him, raising an eyebrow. "Alright, I have been messing up all my life."

"Yes you have, but good thing you have us to help you."

"Oh I'm so blessed." Erik rolled his eyes.

"Yeah you could be alone."

"I am alone though. Sure I have you and the wolf pack…and I could had Christine, but I don't. And it's too late."

"First off, it's not too late. She's not married yet and from what I heard from Meg, you're the reason she isn't planning anything for her waiting."

"Well she is busy." Nadir rolled his eyes. "What?"

"When are you going to realize that it's really because of you?" He asked his friend. "I mean, she came to your opera and stayed by your side the whole night. Along with accepted your offer to stay at the castle and also offered to help you compose an opera and star in it." Nadir explained. "Now that may seem all pointless, but there's also one last thing that is completely true."

"What's that?" Erik asked, looking as his friend.

"The way she looks at you. You can see it in her eyes." Nadir answered. "It's the same look in her eyes that she gave you all those years ago."

"Is it?" Nadir nodded.

"And you give the look right back to her. Everyone knows that you still love her, even Zeus knows." He pointed to the sleeping dog. "The big question is what are you going to do?" He asked his friend.

"I don't know, she's engaged and clearly is going to marry him." Nadir sighed.

"I swear becoming a vampire does something to the brain." He slapped the back of Erik's head.

"Hey what was that for?" He asked.

"To knock some sense into you, idiot. Now I have known you for years and I know that you never back down from a fight."

"But I'm not in a fight."

"Yes you are…for Christine. Fight for her and you might win her back." Nadir told Erik. He didn't respond but looked away. Nadir knew that Erik was thinking and figured it'd be best to let him think. Standing up, Nadir woke up the dog and lead the dog out of the cave and back up to the castle. Erik got up and walked outside. His eyes stared up to the full moon shining down on the land. He could hear the sounds of howling in the distant, closing his eyes at the sound. He remembered how Christine loved the sound of the wolf's howl. He smiled at the beautiful sound and opened his now red eyes, looking up still at the moon. Opening his mouth, his fangs shined white in the light.
