Chapter 35
"Oh believe me my son won't have anything against him. But you two…" She pointed at Sam and Sonny. "I'll make sure you both are fired and brought to justice…"
"Not if I have anything to do with it…" They all turned around to the incomer and they all froze in shock.
"What are doing here Justin?" Sami barked. "This is a private meeting."
"And this meeting, as you say, concerns my son. So my wife and I have every right to be here." Adrienne made her appearance behind Justin and stared at her son, tears coming to her eyes. The latter didn't move one inch, frozen by the shock of seeing his parents here. What were they doing here? How did they know? He didn't have the guts to stand and ask them. And unfortunately, Sami did it for him.
"And how did you know about this meeting?" She asked, her face red with anger. "You told us you were here for your son. Really? Your son? Is he the son you kicked out of your own house when you found out he was gay?" When she saw that her mean words reached them, she smirked. Adrienne looked down unable to cross her son's eyes especially just after what was said and Justin became way angrier.
"Mrs. Brady, you are way out of line." Sonny snapped, coming out of his frozen phase. Hearing her son's words, Adrienne looked up and a tiny smile appeared on her face.
"Am I? I can't believe you're defending them after what you've been through." Sami tried to justify.
"What I've been through is none of your concern and don't you dare judge my family after what you've done to Will. You took his family away from him, you were never with him when he needed you the most… So don't come here and say bad things about my parents when you're no better…"
"How dare you?!"
"Mrs. Brady, I think it would be best to move this appointment to another date." Mr. Calvington who stayed silent until then, stood up and tried to catch her attention.
"No way." Justin responded. "My wife and I are here to talk to you and we are not leaving until you agree to our terms."
"Mrs. Brady, can I ask you to go out of the room for a few? Just for us five to be able to talk alone."
"What?"
"Please?"
She angrily grabbed her purse and ran out like a fury. As soon as she was out of the door, Justin turned his attention to Sam who was still glued to his chair. He pointed at him and gestured him to go out too.
"You. I don't want you either in the room. Get out!"
"Yes Mr. Kiriakis." Sam responded and escaped the room like a young boy caught stealing some candies. He ran out of the office and found himself outside the University. He scanned the yard and spotted Will who was nervously pacing, smoking a cigarette. When he noticed him, Will ran to him. He threw his cigarette on the ground and crashed it with his foot. "What are you doing here? Why aren't you in the meeting?"
"We got interrupted."
"By what?" Will asked with worry.
"Mr. and Mrs. Kiriakis made their entry."
"Really?"
"It was you, wasn't it? You went to them and begged them to help Sonny right?"
"Yes it was me. I'm not going to let you hurt Sonny once more."
"Will… I admire your loyalty to Sonny. And I understand now that you love him with all your heart. That's why I denied knowing any information in front of the Dean."
"You what?" Will asked, his eyes opening wide. He couldn't believe what he was hearing. Did Sam really say that he denied everything?
"I didn't say anything. I know what it is to love someone you're not supposed to. I guess you figured it out but I love Brian. It's really too soon for me to say that but it's the truth. And I know I couldn't bear the thought of someone trying to separate me from him. Even if I did that on my own. So Will, I am so sorry and I sincerely hope that you'll find in you the strength and the will to forgive me." He said before moving to step away from Will.
"Wait a minute!" Will stopped him by grabbing his arm. "If you denied everything, what did my mother say?"
"She wasn't happy and she stormed out of the room. I'm sorry Will, I have to go…" He said looking down.
"You really love him, don't you?"
"Yes Will I do. But because of me and my stupid ideas of revenge, I lost him." He admitted and went away bowing his head down.
"Maybe not…" Will whispered to himself.
Meanwhile in the office.
After Sam left the office, the Dean asked the Kiriakis family if they wanted some alone time which was answered by a yes from Adrienne. As soon as Mr. Calvington left the room, Sonny turned away from his parents, his back facing them.
"Are you okay?" He heard his mother ask him with a sweet yet afraid voice.
"What do you think?" He answered not turning to them.
"Listen son, we are sorry." This time it was Justin who spoke. Sonny was on the verge of the tears. He never imagined for one second he would find himself once again in the same room with his parents. "It's more me than your mother actually. Jackson, I am so sorry."
"For what?" Sonny turned to his father who was standing straight with no emotion evident on his face. "Are you sorry for thinking what you thought or for acting the way you did?"
"I'm deeply sorry for everything. I acted like the worst father possible. I was wrong and I should have listened to your mother."
"What does he mean?" Sonny asked looking now at his mother.
"She asked me to call you and to talk to you after you left." Justin responded for her. "She didn't want it to happen that way. Yes we were shocked but we never should have treated you that way."
"And I tried calling you but you never answered. And I discovered later that you changed you cellphone number. And I didn't find you anywhere…"
"Why didn't you send your men like you always did?"
"At the time, your father…"
"I didn't want to see you being gay…"
"And what changed?"
"We had earlier the visit of your friend, William."
"Will? Will came to see you?" Sonny asked shocked by that. So that was the errands Will had to run earlier?!
"Yes." Justin answered. "And he made me understand that you were still my son just that you didn't like women. I just saw him for a couple of minutes but I could see that he really loves you and he has your back 300%."
"Goes both ways."
"And we are truthfully happy for you."
"Thank you mom."
The three of them leaned and embraced in a tight hug with Sonny in the middle. He buried his face in the crook of his mother's neck and held them both in his arms. "We missed you so much my baby boy…" He heard his mother whisper followed by a "So much…" by his father. He would have never let go if it wasn't for Mr. Calvington knocking on his door.
Will was looking for Brian in every corner he thought he would be at. The conversation with Sam after the meeting with the Dean made him less mad at Sam. He actually wanted nothing now but to help, if not for Sam's sake, then for his friend's. He didn't forget the risk Brian took in order to help him when Brent was threatening to reveal his relationship with Sonny.
He finally found him at the Brady pub, studying, or trying to. Brian was actually gazing into the air with puffy red eyes.
Brian stumbled with his pen, trying to fake studying when he saw Will coming close to him. Will, who saw this coming, tried to suppress his smile at his friend's reaction. He was there before, he knew Brian would avoid talking to him, but Will had to do the right thing.
"Hey, what's up man?" Will said leaning on the empty chair in front of Brian's table.
"Hey man…" Brian said nonchalantly, trying to focus his eyes on the book in front of him.
"WOW, you are doing the English research, taking classes seriously." Will said playfully, pulling the chair in front of him and sitting down facing Brian.
"Well, my mother once told me that in studying, it's all about the passion." Brian didn't intend to speak in a dreamy sad tone, but he couldn't help it.
Will looked at him with sad eyes. He felt sorry for his friend and what he is going through. He knew Brian very well; he was a spoiled playful boy like himself was. But he knew what kind of heart his friend had
"So…" He said quietly.
"So…" Brian said, still looking into his book.
"You know, there is something I was hiding from you and the guys…" Will said examining Brian's features. "Speaking of the English research, our dear teacher is... Sonny's ex."
Brian tried to hold his gaze down on the table. "Yeah I know. Sam tol…" And he stopped suddenly, raising confused eyes and face to Will who was smiling warmly.
"I know everything Brian." Will said convincingly, taking the pen from Brian's hand and tossing it on the table. "So stop acting like an infant and talk to me…"
"I have nothing to say Will…"
"You know as well as I do that it's not true… You know, there was a meeting at the Dean's office. Sam had evidences about Sonny and me being in a relationship and he showed them to my mother and wanted to show them to the Dean. He wanted Sonny to be fired."
Brian couldn't hide his shock this time. He thought that Sam's confession about his relationship with Sonny was the only thing he could be choked about. "Oh God Will, I am so sorry..."
"Don't be!" Will cut him off quickly. "He denied everything in front of the Dean."
Brian was now confused. Why would Sam do that? If he is still in love with Sonny, he would do anything to separate him from Will and get him back or turning his life into hell. He sat there gazing into nothing, silently.
Will felt that it was the right moment to tell everything he knew and try to get Brian to talk to him.
"Brian, I know okay… I know you and Sam had something. He told me after the meeting with the Dean. And I actually had a feeling that you two were… well something when I saw him looking at you during a class."
Brian looked at him with surprise in his eyes. He then decided to relent and purr his heart to his friend.
"Well, we don't anymore." Brian whispered, failing to hide the distress in his voice and eyes. "But at least I am happy he didn't use the information he knows about you and Sonny."
"And why do you think he did that?"
"I don't know. Maybe he just thought that sacrificing for his love is better than losing him twice. Anyway I think it doesn't matter as long as you and Sonny are okay."
"I think it matters Brian." Will said determinedly. "And I don't think that Sonny is his love anymore... I actually think that maybe he never really loved Sonny, you know. He wasn't out when he met Sonny. Sonny was his first experience as a gay man. He was confused, he was married and he thought it wasn't fair for him to lose his first guy after finally coming out and getting divorced."
"What are you trying to say Will?" Brian said bitterly. "Why are you making excuses for him after everything he did? You should hate him."
"Oh believe me, I'm not saying that Sam is going to be my new BFF but you feel something for him Brian. And judging the way he was talking about you, I am sure he feels the same about you… And I know that he makes you happy, even if you are stubbornly trying to deny it from me."
"I knew him only for a month or so, and it's over now, so there is nothing to feel sorry about. I will find someone else soon."
"I know you Brian. I know you could find a guy in the top next five minutes. But this month changed you a lot, and you know that. And you know there is a huge difference between the thing you had with Sam and with others in the past."
Brian looked at Will sadly, trying to hold on the hope he was hearing in Will's words. "It won't work anyway Will, he is my teacher. Nobody knows more than you about it. It will only lead to a scandal or a breakup if we are lucky enough"
"It didn't end like this between me and Sonny." Will said suggestively. "You won't know unless you try. And you know what? Honestly it is worth every risk."
Brian stared at Will, silently. Deep down, he knew Will was right. He had changed a lot since Sam's arrival to the university and into his life. He became somewhat a better man. Before, his life was completely messed up; he had no interest in anything he initiated. And now he found himself thinking about Sam's every word during classes, thinking about every look. He was waiting for the class with him by a minute and he wanted to be a good student. He remembered how it felt to kiss him for the first time, not to mention making love to him. Love? Was it possible to talk about love in such a short period of time? Will was right, he couldn't deny it anymore. Was he ready for that? Was he ready to commit himself in a hidden relationship? And more importantly was he really ready to be one man's man? Those were questions scrambling upon themselves in his head as he left Will and walked toward Sam's office.
To be continued…
