Astral Monkey Part 2
She was hoping I would say yes, that if someone was hurting my sister, I would return the favor and hurt them. I couldn't though.
"No," I said, "I wouldn't have used my powers. It's not allowed."
"Not allowed?"
"There were rules that I had to follow in Camelot. Fae cannot use their powers on mortals. We cannot reveal ourselves to mortals. I've broken too many rules, I can't break anymore." There was a moment of silence. There were laws as well and if they were broken the consequences would be much worse than if I broke a rule.
"Where are they? Where have they gone?"
"Dr. Williamson is killing people," aunt Phoebe said, "Estelle, their punishment doesn't fit the crime. I think they should be punished and I'm sorry for what I said earlier. It wasn't okay, where you're from, when you're from, it's important and I was wrong to make that type of comment." I gave her a small smile accepting the apology.
"What happens when a mortal receives a witch's powers?" I asked.
"Their body doesn't accept our magic. Their mind doesn't either. What happens with Fae blood?" I knew the answer even though I wished I didn't.
"I don't know," I lied, "Won't it take all of the Charmed Ones to vanquish him?"
"Yeah," she sighed looking outside, "But I don't know how we're going to get there."
"There is one way I know of." We went to my room and I took out a small box. Inside was a butterfly charm with small gold faery wings on a chain. Aunt Phoebe commented on how gorgeous it was. I told her I'd had it since I was born. I didn't know where it had came from, or who it had belonged to. I did know what it did to whomever was wearing it. I handed it to my aunt, telling her to put it on. She put it on standing in front of my mirror. She gasped as simple gold butterfly wings appeared on her back. They were similar to mine but not as detailed. I transformed and she took in my new wings and outfit. After she tested the wings, nearly laughing when she flew a foot off the ground, we located my mom and aunt Piper. We flew high in the sky and eventually landed behind the building.
I was foolish not to transform back before we entered. When Dr. Williamson saw me his eyes widened with shock. He then started to ramble about he knew something was different. I noticed he wasn't looking at Phoebe, this was because her wings were gone. When he took a step towards me I backed up.
"Dr. Williamson," I said holding my hands up, "I can help you. I can take the magic out of you." He laughed asking why he'd want the magic out of him. I told him it was because he'd die otherwise. I had created a small shield around his heart but it was difficult keep it there. It became even more difficult when he had thrown my mother to the ground. She had moved forward, not wanting him to hurt me. I almost withdrew my shield but stopped myself.
"Dr. Williamson," I said my voice slightly shaking, "Please, just let me help you."
"I don't want your help. I'm perfectly fine," he said and I saw something shimmer in his eyes, "I'll let you help me if you come with me." He held his hand out.
"Estelle, don't," aunt Phoebe said, "Let him go, you've done all you could."
"Estelle," Dr. Williamson said, "Don't you want to save me? All I ask is for you to come with me." I felt aunt Phoebe's hand on the inside of my elbow, she wanted to pull me away. She whispered in my ear that not everyone was able to be saved but I couldn't let my shield falter.
Several of the rules I was supposed to follow were swimming through my mind. Do not harm mortals. An eye for an eye. Do not engage in battle unless it's the only option. Fly away from a demon if possible. Keep your powers hidden. What he was doing was okay by my thinking, these people had done something wrong. He was only punishing them for it, to save his own family.
I had to choose a rule to follow. There were those of my society, of Camelot, those that faeries followed, and those that my family followed. Keep your powers hidden was one of their rules, now one of mine. I knew if I were to go with him I'd experience pain not just through experiments they'd perform on me but I'd never see my family again.
"I'm sorry Dr. Williamson but I can't let you take me away from my family."
"Dear, you'll still be able to see your family," he said, "We just want to know more about you."
"I'm sorry," I said releasing the shield. I quickly put a new one up, shielding my family and I as he exploded. I felt arms around me and I was surprised to find they were aunt Phoebe's. I understood though why she was the one hugging me. She knew about the rules I had to follow, that I broke one by not saving the mortal. Yet, he was crazy and he was going to hurt my family, by killing me.
Months ago when I first arrived I had watched a lot of movies and documentaries. Some were Disney based, some based on the modern society, but there were a few that were in the genre of science fiction. At first I hadn't wanted to believe that what could happen if I was found out. If I had gone with Dr. Williamson I'd be going to a special facility. I would be locked away from the outside world, they'd find out my powers and their extent. The bars confining me would be fireproof, any hope of escape would be obsolete. I would probably end up dying before seeing my family again. Odin would most likely find a way to kill me before the experiments did.
I pushed the thoughts out of my head, knowing that it would never happen because Dr. Williamson was dead, and I had killed him. Dr. Williamson was more demon than human I had decided. The loss of hope could drive anyone mad but he had let it take over. He had killed people for crimes, though horrendous, that didn't deserve death as a punishment.
That night at dinner it was silent. There were no questions about my fiance. This morning it had been the only problem on my mom's mind, that had now changed. She watched me carefully but didn't say a word about what happened. She was letting me make peace with it on my own and I had. I heard my aunt Piper cry in her room as I passed it on my way to mine. She was upset about what happened, in her mind mortals were innocents, and she had helped kill one.
Late into the evening aunt Phoebe came into my room. She asked me to tell the story behind the necklace.
"I've had it since I was born," I said, "I found out what powers it possessed two years ago."
Gwen was preparing dinner while I walked outside to talk with one of the councilmen. He had requested to speak with me. He asked me to bring my necklace. I needn't ask which one. I hung around my neck, glimmering in the setting sun. He smiled when I entered his home. It was larger than mine, there were two or three rooms and one separate for the chamber pot. I sat down in one of the chairs. He told me to take my necklace off and hand it to him. He then called in a young boy, I soon realized he was human.
"Do you know what this necklace does?" he asked.
"It is but a babel, is it not?" I asked curious.
"It is much more than a 'babel' Estelle," he smiled placing the necklace around the boy's neck. Large faery wings burst from is back and I sat stunned. The councilmen quickly removed it from the boy's neck, sent him away, and handed it back to me.
"You must be very careful not to let this fall into a mortal's hands," he said.
"Why is it mine?" I asked, "Why do I have it?"
"You will find out in due time," he said and a gentleman, not much older than I walked in.
"I apologize father," he said about to back out but then he caught my eye.
"Estelle, this is my son William," he said. I stood up a gave a formal curtsey.
"It's a pleasure to meet you, William," I said and he bowed.
"And the same unto you Estelle." He then left. I saw the sun fully set outside and curtsied to councilman Ronald.
"Until we speak again," he said.
Aunt Phoebe hadn't said anything as I told my story. She had realized something but I could tell she wasn't going to say anything to me. She would probably tell her sisters though.
"What is it?" I asked before she left my room, "What do you know?"
"I know why you have that necklace," she said, "But I can't tell you who it's from. Not yet."
"Why?" I asked.
"Because you aren't ready to know." She then left my room leaving me confused. I was up late trying to think of what she knew but I couldn't figure it out. Dinner the following evening included the questioning about my fiance. Most of my replies were not truthful.
"Where did you meet him?" she asked first.
"At a festival," I said, this was true, "About six years ago." That part was not true. I really only met him a year ago.
"What does he look like?"
"He has brown hair, blue eyes, he's about a foot taller than me," this was all I knew of his appearance. She then asked what his hobbies were. Only one of his hobbies I told truthfully about. He liked to ride horses. He had taken me out on a horse not long after our engagement announcement. We had spent an entire day learning more about each other. I had grown to like him but I didn't know about love. I didn't tell the last part to my mom.
"How old is he? How old would he be now?"
"Nineteen," I said. Her face paled as if the age difference was a big thing. Apparently, it was.
"But you're sixteen!" she said.
"Yeah," I said, "What's the big deal?"
"You're a minor and he's not!"
"I'm a what?" I asked not understanding the term she used.
"Estelle, here you can't- go out with someone who is eighteen or older when you are younger than eighteen," aunt Phoebe said. I then said back in Camelot it was different. I said I was lucky to be with someone close to my age and once more my mother paled. She realized that girls my age sometimes married men in their thirties or forties, or older.
"I've kissed him," I said truthfully. It was a dumb thing to say but it got my mom off the fact that he was nineteen.
"You've kissed him?" she asked. I nodded, it was all we had done. She asked me to tell her when it happened.
We were in a meadow and it had started to rain. We had to walk back from our trip because we had flown. As we got closer to our village we heard a scream, I was terrified. I was scared it was Gwen's. When we got to the village we found out the scream was from a mortal, she had come face to face with a hungry wolf. She was saved. William, upon hearing this news, put his sword away.
I started to laugh because I even though I was relieved I was still terrified. It was then he kissed me. It was quick and I pulled away from it surprised. He told me, he'd protect me and my sister. I told him I didn't need protecting. He apologized for his blunder and returned me to my hut where Gwen was asleep.
"It doesn't really matter though," I said, "Not anymore. When I return, I don't think I will marry William." Aunt Phoebe then spoke up.
"Why not?" she asked. I had to think about how I would respond.
"I'm going to need to find my place in Camelot, within my village. I can't do that with William. If I'm to marry him it won't be right upon my return." This answer satisfied my aunts and my mother. She liked the idea of me not marrying right away. Marriage, back home, was a piece of paper. I could only marry for love if I waited to marry until much later.
I then thought of Gwen. She had married someone and I could tell it was out of affection. How long had she been living until she married John? When had she changed her name? When had she accepted that I had died? When had she given up her powers? I feared these questions would forever remain unanswered but when I returned, I would never have to ask them because she'd have a different future.
A/N: That's it for this episode! I hope you enjoyed my version of it with Estelle. Please review with what you think of the choice she made and what you think of William. Who do you think the necklace is from? Thanks so much for reading and reviewing! Charmed Always- K
