A/N So as it turns out, this is the last chapter. I was writing more, but it just kept coming out as filler and it wasn't good to me. So I'm ending it with this chapter, and leaving the mystery of summer up to the audience. Happy reading!

22 May

The next morning, Nataya had been up making breakfast with Gilbert while Ludwig was in the living room watching morning cartoons. Katyusha and Alfred came downstairs, dressed for work. "Ugh, so weird being dressed for work before I'm at the station. I always get dressed at the station."

"Well you won't have to do that anymore now that you live closer." Katyusha said pouring a cup of coffee.

Natalya looked over at her sister pour a cup of coffee as she flipped the pancakes in the pan. "You better be pouring that cup for Alfred and not yourself."

Katyusha winced. "O-Of course I am. I'm even making it just how he likes it, three creams and two sugars." She said mixing in the contents.

"That's exactly how you take your coffee, Kat."

"Well that's the best way to take it, we can just share this cup." She said and held it to her lips only to have her sister stop her. "No. No caffeine for the first trimester, I told you that already."

"But-"

"Excessive caffeine can result in miscarriage, premature birth, low birth weight, and withdrawal symptoms in infants." Alfred said off the top of his head.

"I don't need reminders, I need coffee." She whined.

"How about an orange juice instead?" Gilbert said plopping a bottle down in front of her.

"Does it have caffeine in it?"

"No."

Katyusha gave an annoyed groan and took the orange juice before sitting at the table.

"The first step to addiction is admitting you have a problem."

"Alfred you're not helping."

"Sorry."

"Kat I know giving up coffee is going to be hard for you, but it's for the best." Natalya reassured sitting breakfast on the table and slid the premade cup of coffee to Alfred.

"Yeah, we're going to have a healthy, non-caffeine addicted baby." He said before taking a sip of coffee. "Wow this actually a really nice cup of coffee."

Katyusha grabbed Alfred's face and kissed him deeply before pulling away and licking her lips. "I'm sorry, I just wanted to taste the coffee."

"Do you want to taste more?" Alfred asked before taking another sip and winking at her.

Natalya gave a shudder. "I'm going to throw up." She muttered. Though they showed a lot of affection, Natalya still wasn't used to it. She could imagine her sister being affectionate in a relationship due to her affectionate personality, but man was it weird seeing her show so much around her.

Then she looked over at Gilbert who was helping Ludwig make his breakfast plate. He ruffled Ludwig's hair some before giving him a kiss on the top of his head. Her heart melted.

Alfred parked his car on the street near the station and looked over at Natalya and Gilbert. "So, thanks for riding with me to work but now I have to go in...Is there any reason why you two are still here?"

"Frankly, I didn't want to come, but Gilbert promised me we'd spend time in town afterwards." Natalya spoke looking at him.

"And I was hired to be the cameraman." Gilbert said from the back seat.

"After what? Cameraman for what? What are you guys doing in town? Is that supposed to be a date?"

"Alfred stop asking questions and get out the car." Natalya said getting out first.

Alfred looked back at Gilbert, and mouthed, "Is this a trap?" to him.

Gilbert shook his head, and wordlessly got out the car.

Alfred followed them cautiously inside the station, stopping when all of his fellow cop colleagues stood from their desk and greeted him with applause and cheers.

The American looked around confused for a moment, then looked at Gilbert who was busy recording on his phone, and finally Natalya, who shooed him to walk forward.

Alfred walked over to his coworkers, and they flooded him with congratulations, pats on the back, and welcome backs. When he ran into Mathias, he stopped and smiled at him. Mathias gave him a warm, friendly hug, patting him on the back. "Glad to have you back Al."

He hugged him back just as warmly. "I'm glad to be back, ah, but what is all the congratulations for?"

"You're being honored for your act of bravery on your recent case."

"Really?"

"Really." Someone said behind him.

Alfred turned around, facing a woman of asian decent, and in a very professional looking pantsuit. "Good morning Mayor Nguyen." He greeted in slight surprise upon realizing who she was.

Mayor Lien Nguyen gave a curt nod to the officer. "Good morning Officer." She said. "I, as Mayor of this city, would like to congratulate you on your recent act of heroism and bravery. The level you're willing to go to protect and serve is admirable, and the determination you have to better this city deserves to be acknowledged. So on this day, 22nd of May 2016, I would like to award you with this medal of heroism, and this plaque of pure bravery." She said and placed the gold medal around his neck and handed him a gold plaque before shaking his hand and pointing to where a professional cameraman was positioned and smiled, still shaking the mayor's hand for the picture.

When he was able to get out of the mix of people, he found Gilbert and Natalya. "You guys knew about this?"

"Duh, we all did." Natalya said.

"Yeah, that's why Kat wanted us to come and record since she'd be working and stuff." Gilbert said next. "So, a medal of heroism and a plaque of pure bravery. Gotta admit, total badass."

"I know right?" Alfred said excitedly. "Both of these things have my name on them, so cool. Did you get me shaking the mayor's hand? I wonder if she felt how shaky it was, and sweaty. Man I wish Kat was here, she would have gave me a bunch of kisses by now."

"Yeah well I'm sure she'll be kissing my phone when she sees the video, weirdo." Natalya spoke before mumbling the last part and looked at Gilbert. "Can we go now?" She asked tugging his shirt.

"Yeah I got pretty much everything. I'll send it to Nat to show Kat later. Do you want me to send you the video too Alfred?"

"No it's okay, I was talking to some of the camera people here. Some people want to do an interview, so yours truly just may be on the eight o'clock news."

"Oh well that's cool. Nat and I are gonna go. Only got so much time together before I have to take her to community service."

"Alrighty, you guys have a great day then, and thanks a lot for coming for support. Really appreciate it."

"Of course, see you later Alfred." GIlbert said before heading out, Natalya close behind him.

They walked out the station, and headed in a direction down the street.

"Don't tell Alfred this, but I think Alfred deserved his award. He's a true hero." Natalya said walking next to Gilbert.

"I think he did too. I'm pretty proud of him, and I'm glad we got to be the ones to see him receive his awards. He looked so happy I thought he was going to cry."

Natalya snorted. "I thought I was the only one, what a crybaby loser." She said taking his hand in his. "So, this is it? The beginning of the end."

Gilbert scoffed. "Don't be so dramatic. Summer is three months long. Do you know what we can do in three months?"

"Get me pregnant."

"Don't start. We have the whole city to explore, places to go, stuff to see. It'll be great. Even Kat's gonna be well into her second trimester by the time I leave for school. Also, I have a lot of stuff to buy for college."

"All while helping me prep for my senior year."

"See? We're gonna be busy all summer. It'll be over before you know it."

"I don't want it to be over before I know it." Natalya said nudging him.

"Well you better savor every minute, good things last longer that way."

"Yeah sure, whatever you say Gil."

"I'm serious Natalya. We're gonna have a great summer, every little thing is gonna fall into place, and every little thing—"

"Is gonna be alright. That I know at least." She said looking up at him with a small smile.

Gilbert looked back at her, grinning. "See? I knew I could rub off on you in a good way."
