"Reed, let's go. You got a visitor."
Erica Reed sighed before standing up and walking out of her cell. She had been in this hell hole for nearly a month, and she had not received as much as a phone call. She wasn't sure who this visitor was, but she walked into the room determined to tell them where they could shove it. The only person she wanted to see was her daughter, and she knew her ex husband would never allow that. He had been at her sentencing hearing, and promised Erica that she would never see her child again. If it hadn't been for the officers restraining her she would have ripped his throat out.
Which is why she was shocked when she walked into the room and saw her daughter standing there.
"Mommy!" She yelled before racing into Erica's arms. Erica felt tears welling up in her eyes as she clung to the eight-year old she thought she would never see again. After a moment she looked up, her shock doubling as she saw who was standing watching the reunion between mother and daughter.
"It's been a while Erica."
"That it has. It's good to see you Clark." She said, and he smiled.
"I promised you that I'd find a way to help you, and I think I have." He told her a few minutes later after her daughter had been taken outside by a guard. Erica had been extremely reluctant to let her go, but when Clark promised she would be just outside Erica agreed. Her daughter didn't need to know that her mother was a criminal.
"I'm a US Marshall, and I'm looking to put together a team, a task force if you like. I'd like you to join. In exchange for your help, you'll be permanently transferred to Maybelle minimum security prison. In addition for every con you help us catch, you get a month shaved off your sentence. You can also see your daughter whenever you want."
"Dereck has-"
"Dereck won't be an issue. As of two hours ago, he no longer has anything to do with Sophie, and he never will again."
"What did he do?" She demanded softly.
"Spent all his time getting drunk and not taking care of his kid."
"You're not telling me everything Clark." She said, and he nodded.
"You're right. He tried to hit her earlier. I got her out. He never saw me. Then I dropped her off at my parents and went back and arrested him. Sophie may need to testify that he tried to hit her, but your ex-husband will never lay a hand on her again."
"If he tries, I'll rip his throat out." She replied coldly.
"Erica, you need to be in control. You're the best tracker I've ever met, and you can fight with the best of them, but your temper has got to be under control. Otherwise, you will be put back here and there will be nothing I can do to help you. Do you understand?"
"Yes. I understand Clark."
"That's my girl." He said with a smile before signaling for the guard.
"Her transfer's been approved?"
"Yes sir. Just came in. Are you sure that you can handle this one on-"
"She'll behave." Clark replied before walking out of the room with Erica following behind him.
"So this is the last of the animals?" Ray asked as Clark and Erica walked into the building that would house as the task force's new office.
"Can I have everyone's attention?" Clark called while motioning for Erica to join Loyd Lowery, and Shea or the animals as Ray called them.
"Now you all know Ray, but you don't know me. My name is Clark Kent, and let me make one thing very clear to you. This is a one-time offer. Now I won't bother going over the details again since Ray has already explained them to you. However there is one thing he hasn't told you. If any of you run, I will catch you and when I do you all go back where I found you sentences doubled. Are we understood?"
"We understand, but can I point one thing out uh-"
"Clark." He supplied, and Loyd nodded.
"You lied. You said we didn't know you but the beautiful woman to my left obviously does and-"
"Dr. Lowery, shut up. Whatever history Erica and I may have is none of your damn business. Now if there are no other annoying questions how about we go grab some lunch? I don't know about the rest of you but I am famished."
"I could eat. Prison food sucks." Shea spoke up, and Clark laughed.
"I think that's the idea. Do me a favor and go start the car. Erica, Loyd keep and eye on him. Make sure he dosen't do something stupid." He said before tossing Shea the keys.
"What the hell was that about? Giving the animals keys?"
"That's enough Ray. They're not going to run."
"Bull. Shea will be gone by the time we finish talking."
"No he won't. If he tries, Erica will beat hi to a pulp and Loyd will talk him to death."
"That's another thing. What's the deal with you and this chick? And why are you being so nice to these animals?" Ray asked, but Clark shook his head.
"Erica and I have a history. And I've found that if you want to get good results out of someone treat them like what they are. In this case, people who have made a few mistakes and deserve a chance to make up for it." Clark said before walking out the door, leaving Ray shaking his head.
