Previously in "Angel of Destiny", Ruby sleeps with Professor Maxfield then tells Caleb about it and he forgives her while Hannah experiences her first time with a girl.
Chapter Thirty-Seven
A Few Days Later – The Mikaelson Mansion…
"You actually did this! Ruby, how could you? Were you doing it to make a point?" Finn demanded as he paced back and forth. Nearby, Sage bounced Nathaniel up and down to calm him down, since his father's loud words were making him fuss quietly.
Ruby bit her lip. "I know I shouldn't have done what I did, and believe me, I never meant for it to get that far. It was stupid, yes, and I wish I could forget it happened."
"Well, you can forget about it happening again, because I am removing you from that school. It's obvious to me that you need to start elsewhere," Finn said.
Ruby's eyes widened at his words. "Daddy, no, you can't! It was a mistake!"
"I can and I will," her father replied. "The mistake was sending you to that school in the first place."
"Finn, at least think about how hard she's worked to get where she is today," his wife said as she continued to bounce Nathaniel.
He turns his eyes to her, an anger embedded deeply into them. "So, you're going to take sides with OUR daughter on this?"
"You know very well that I don't take sides, Finn! But, look at her and I mean really look at her," she softly demanded at him.
Finn looked at Ruby and then back at Sage. "You're right; she did work hard to get where she is, even though what happened the other day shouldn't have happened."
With that, Finn turned on his heel and headed off to his office, closing the door in a slam behind him. Sage and Ruby both flinched at the sound and Nathaniel began to fuss again so Ruby held her arms out for her baby brother, who immediately clung to her once he was in her arms. Sage, once her arms were free, went after her husband, groaning in frustration when she discovered that he'd locked the door behind him. Using a gentle hand, she knocked on the door. "Finn, will you please let me in?"
"No, Sage. I'd like to be alone for right now," he replied back.
Sage sighed. "Finn, please, you can't shut me out like this. I want to help you." She jumped back in fright when she heard something crack against the wooden frame of the door.
"I said to go AWAY, Sage," her husband growled from the other side. Sage growled back herself then turned and ran upstairs.
Ruby glanced from her mother rushing upstairs to the closed doors of her father's office and worried what had made Finn crack all of a sudden. Ruby went upstairs to her parents' room, Nathaniel in her arms. "This is my fault, Nathaniel. I never should have done what I did."
She found Sage pacing back and forth but the older redhead stopped when she saw that Ruby was still holding Nathaniel. "Oh, Nathaniel, Momma is so sorry," Sage said as she took her youngest son from his sister's arms then began to rock him.
"Why is Daddy so mad still, Mum?" Ruby asked as she settled onto the covers of her parents' bed.
"I guess he's angry because he's worried about you," her mother replied. "He doesn't want anything to happen to you. His concern transformed into anger." She sighed. "The best thing to do is to let him be until he calms down."
They both jumped slightly in fright once again when they heard the front door slam, and since the bedroom faced the front, Sage went toward the window and watched as her husband got into his SUV that he used for work then drove off. "What's he doing now, Mum?"
Sage sighed. "My guess is he's going after that professor. Something tells me it's probably not going to be pretty, especially with the way he's feeling." She pulled out her cell phone and sent a mass text message to his brothers: 'Finn went to confront a professor. Please go check on him and see if he is okay?'
Within minutes, Elijah, Klaus, Kol, Henrik and Olivier had all replied to her message: 'Do not worry, Sage. We'll go after him.' After closing the phone, Sage heard Ruby say again, "This is my fault."
"Sweetie, it's not your fault," Sage said as she went over to sit down on the bed, putting Nathaniel against the pillows then sat next to him, watching as he began playing with the covers on the bed, grinning at his mom and sister to bring their somewhat sour moods up a little.
Ruby looked at Nathaniel and a smile appeared on her face. "How did you know that I needed to be cheered up, little guy?" she asked him.
"Call it brother's intuition," Sage said with a smile as her fingers moved gently over his head of dark copper red hair.
Ruby smiled through the tears that were falling down her cheeks. "You're a good brother, Nathaniel."
Sage reached out with her other hand and gently twirled one of her daughter's dark red curls around her slender finger. "You're a good sister, Ruby. And a good daughter," she said softly.
This only made Ruby cry harder as she scooted over to her mom and into Sage's lap. "Momma," she said on a choked sob.
She felt her mother's arms wrap tightly around her while her fingers and hands stroked Ruby's hair and rocked her eldest daughter back and forth while Ruby cried quietly. "I know, baby, but Momma is here and she's not going anywhere," she said, her hands moving to frame Ruby's cheeks between them until she could look into her daughter's eyes.
Ruby sobbed and was about to answer her when she heard a knock at the door. Not sure who this was, she left the room and went to answer it, seeing Hannah standing there. "Hannah, there you are. Caleb told me you left."
Hannah cleared her throat. "Yes, well, something…came up and I had to leave." She sighed. "Is this a bad time? I can come back later if it is."
Ruby shook her head. "No, no, come on in."
Hannah eyed her cousin curiously as she entered the mansion. She remained quiet as Ruby shut the door behind her and it wasn't long before the brunette decided to speak. "Ruby, there's something I need to tell you. We've always been honest with each other and I'd hate to lie to you."
"What's wrong, Hannah?"
"Remember when I said that I had to leave? Well, the reason I had to leave was because there was a girl with Caleb. I saw them kissing and I scolded Caleb because I thought he was cheating on you. The girl with him suggested a threesome. I objected to it, but then, the next thing I new, the girl, Calliope, started kissing me and…"
"Whoa, whoa, whoa, back up here," Ruby said. "Hannah, are you telling me that you're…"
"I don't know. I mean, I just don't get it. Back home, I had several boyfriends. Being with a girl never once crossed my mind," Hannah said. "I'm scared, Ruby. What am I going to tell my father and Alexia?"
"Why don't you try calling them first? In fact, I'm sure that Mum won't mind if we have a small family gathering," Ruby suggested. Then, she remembered. "Oh, wait, can it just be me, you, Aunt Lexi and Mum, and Nathaniel too, maybe Xavier? I forgot that your dad went to check on mine."
"What happened with Uncle Finn?" Hannah asked with a concerned look.
Ruby sighed. "You know how I told you about Professor Maxfield? Well, I told Daddy about it and well, he…went hysterical. Mum tried to calm him down, but he wouldn't have it. Just before you came, he left. I think he's going to track him down. Mum sent a text message to each of my uncles, your father included, telling them to look out for him."
Meanwhile – Two Hours Later…
Finn had just pulled up to the campus of Virginia State in Richmond and spotted Wes heading toward his car, so he got out and walked up to him. "How dare you do this to MY daughter, you scum!?" he demanded, grabbing a hold of Wes' shirt collar and was prepared to punch him when he was suddenly pulled away from the professor.
"Finnegan, you're not going to do this," Elijah said quietly.
Finn growled at his brother. "I have to, Elijah! My daughter's honor is at stake here. Would you stand idly by if it were Evelyn or Maria?"
"No, I would not, brother, but this is not like you," Elijah replied. "You do not retort so low as to act out violently."
"I'm making an exception this time," Finn said. "This man deserves to be punished for what he's done!"
"In all honesty, Mr. Mikaelson, I was not the only one who began the brief affair," Wes said. He was held back by Henrik & Olivier while Klaus and Kol stood nearby to be referee if they needed it.
Finn growled at Wes. "True as that may be, I don't care who began it!"
Just then, the song "Butterfly Kisses" began playing from inside of Finn's back pocket and he wrestled one arm out of Elijah's firm hold then pulled his cell phone out, checking the caller ID to see that it was Ruby calling him. "Ruby sweetheart, what's wrong?"
"Daddy, what are you doing?" she said in a soft voice, the tone almost a whisper.
"I'm defending your honor, Ruby," her father replied. "This man doesn't understand the lengths I'd go for you."
"Don't hurt him, Daddy," Ruby said. "I realize what we did was wrong, but if your hurt him, I will never forgive you. Think about it, Daddy, is revenge worth losing the forgiveness of your daughter?"
Finn collapsed to his knees at her words and Elijah followed him, his arms embracing his older brother while taking the cell phone from his hands before he could drop it. "Ruby, your father will be home soon," was all he said before ending the call.
Finn felt himself tremble even more and then looked at his other brothers. "Henrik, Olivier, let him go. I realize that getting revenge would be a mistake."
"Are you sure, brother?" Olivier asked. He had never seen his eldest brother lash out like this, not in violence, but it was obvious that he was only doing what he thought best to protect his daughter.
"I'm sure, Olivier," Finn replied. He looked at Wes. "You better pray to make sure that I don't come after you again if I find out you so much as set yourself 10 feet within the perimeter of my daughter, are we clear on that?"
"Crystal," Wes ground out before pushing Henrik and Olivier off of him and heading in the original direction to his car, the box he'd been forced to put down when Finn grabbed him once again in his hands. Wes looked at him. "What? I promised to stay away from your daughter. What else do you want from me?"
Henrik and Olivier pulled their oldest brother away before Finn could do any further damage to the former professor then pulled him gently toward the SUV, where they all climbed in. Elijah, Klaus and Kol climbed into Elijah's car. Henrik gave Finn a stern look. "What the bloody hell were you trying to do? Do you want Ruby to be angry at you or do you want her to be proud of you that you walked away?"
"Why did you even come here? I could've handled this on my own!" Finn yelled.
"Do you want to know the real reason why I came, or why the others came as well? It's because you have a wife who loves you and was worried about your sudden spurt of anger that she sent a mass text message to me, Elijah, Nik, Kol and Olivier," Henrik replied.
Finn sighed heavily. "I might have known this was Sage's doing."
"Can you really blame her for being worried about her husband?" Olivier said; he had been quiet until now. "She wants nothing but the best for you."
"Well, she can forget about trying to please or worry about me, because I'm through trying to meet her halfway," he ground out.
Later…
Sage felt tears sting her eyes when she heard what her husband had said then glanced at Lexi, who hugged the taller woman gently but fiercely. Her gaze then went to her brother-in-law Olivier as she said, "Can you tell him something for me?"
"I'd tell him whatever you wanted," he said with a comforting smile.
"Can you tell him…apartment building?" Sage said quietly.
Olivier nodded. "I'll be sure to tell him that."
"Thank you." After he was gone, Sage eased Nathaniel into his sister's arms then rushed upstairs. Lexi followed soon after.
"Where are you going?" she asked the redhead.
"I'm going to where it all started for us. Where we first set the spark into a blazing fire," Sage replied as she undressed, her back turned to the other doctor as she picked out some of the lingerie she'd bought recently without Finn knowing then put on a nice dress he loved, the one she still had from Grace's Sweet Sixteen birthday party, zipping it up and grinning at her reflection in the mirror when she saw that it still fit her.
Much Later…
Sage was stirring the sauce in the pan for the spaghetti in the kitchen of her old apartment, which she found out was now for sale, so she'd bought it from the superintendent right away and brought all of the furniture she'd had in it from before, setting it all up. She had sent a text message to Ruby that it could be hers and Hannah's if they wanted to move out of the dorm, and her eldest daughter agreed immediately.
Her head turned when she heard the front door creak open and she smiled, knowing her plan was getting underway. Maintaining her smile, she said, "Hello, Finn. I've been expecting you."
Finn entered the apartment and looked around. "Is there a reason why we're in your old apartment?"
"Yes. Yes, there is," she said before turning around completely then entered the living room area, reaching up to untie her apron and let it drop to the floor.
Her husband's eyes grew wide at the sight of her in nothing but the lingerie she'd worn underneath her dress. Against his will, Finn licked his lips. "Sage, you're…you're…"
"Beautiful? Alluring? Intoxicating?"
Finn pulled her into his arms. "All of the above." He lowered his head and began to press open-mouthed kisses along her neck, which she arched to the side, soft gasps falling from her lips as he moved ever closer, pulling her flush against his hard body.
Sage closed her eyes and moaned as she felt his lips on her neck. "Oh, Finn…" Walking her toward the nearest wall, Finn used his hands to roll the apple green silk negligee up until it was rolled up against her bare stomach then let one hand move toward her inner thighs. Sage felt what he was doing and trembled under his touch. "Finn, please don't…"
"Don't what, love? Tell me." His breathing was hoarse and ragged and oh so warm against her fair skin as he continued to kiss it with open-mouthed caresses, his tongue darting out on occasion.
"Don't tease me," she replied. "You know I don't like that."
"All the teasing seems to be your forte, love," she heard him say in a ragged murmur against her neck and she shivered as his warm breath once again traveled along her skin until it stopped at the low neckline of her negligee.
Sage trembled again and then, reaching out with her hands, hastily removed his tie, throwing it to the floor before undoing the buttons on his shirt, throwing it to the floor as well, running her hands across his bare chest. Finn responded by removing her negligee and throwing it to the floor by his discarded shirt and tie.
Lifting her up further until he was at eye level with her bare chest, Finn leaned forward and captured one of her bare breasts between his lips, his tongue encircling the orb and marking his possession. "Finn, oh…"
Finn smirked at her words. "Yes, that's right, my feisty Irish Rose, keep driving me crazy with those sounds. I can never get enough of them."
Pushing him toward the couch, Sage claimed his lips with hers in a ravenous kiss, her tongue twining around his as she attacked the belt buckle he wore around his waist, pausing for a few moments to sit up then admire the physique of his bare chest and let her fingers trail down the smooth, sinew skin until she stopped at his waist. And then she leaned down to place her mouth all over his chest, her tongue darting out as she tasted the sweat that was beginning to form.
Finn felt her tongue on his chest and let out a passionate scream, not caring if the other people in the building heard him. Hell, he didn't seem to care about much of anything as long as he got to be with Sage. Gently gripping a chunk of her red curls, Finn sat up and gently forced her head back until he had once again burrowed his head into her neck, lips curving upward when he felt her rock the lower half of their bodies together but he used his other hand to still her movements and then let go, letting his other hand join it at her slender hips. They stroked along the waistband of her leggings before moving around to her backside, stroking the firm, supple skin beneath leggings and underwear. "Finn, please!" she pleaded in a whining tone.
Finn heard her whining and said against her neck, "I know, my love, I know. You shall have me, but I want to get you ready for me first."
Easing her back until she was the one on the couch, Finn lifted her legs until the arch of her foot was resting on his shoulder. While letting his eyes dart back and forth between hers and paying attention to what he was doing, Finn brought his lips to her instep then began to mark a trail of soft, feather-light kisses down toward her inner thigh.
Sage felt his kisses on her legs and panted in ecstasy. She could already feel that fire burning within them and didn't want it to stop. His other hand stroked up the opposite side of his lips, moving up toward the upper part of her body. "Finn Mikaelson, you're teasing me again…"
Finn smirked. "I know you don't like being teased, love, but I can already feel the fire between starting to really burn and I want to help it along."
Her head fell back onto the couch's cushions as he continued to kiss up toward the destination he was seeking out: her moist folds. Her inner thighs began to quiver and the prospect of what he was about to do threw all her inhibitions out of the window. Now that he had her full attention, Finn reached her folds and began to slowly lick them with his tongue, which earned him a pleasurable scream from his wife.
Her hips arched up involuntarily but Finn used a gentle, firm touch to push them back down, his tongue gently pushing further into her folds. Sage's head twisted back and forth as she tried to keep another scream from escaping, using a closed fist to place at her lips. Finn looked up at her, seeing what she was doing. "You can't keep your screams muffled for long, Irish Rose. You're going to have to let them out eventually."
She shook her head no so Finn shifted until he was kneeling between her thighs and looked down at her. "I don't want to," she said, feeling tears sting the corners of her eyes.
Finn saw the tears escaping her eyes. "Sage, what's wrong? I didn't…hurt you, did I? You know I would never do that."
SMACK! went her hand across his cheek. She followed that with a punch to his jaw. "How dare you try to push me away and get angry at me when OUR daughter and our son were present!?" she demanded in a low tone.
"Damn it, Sage! Were you not present when our daughter actually admitted to sleeping with her professor!?" he demanded in a growling tone.
"Yes, actually, I was. But, as her mother, I have every right to forgive her first thing. You, what do you go and do? You go and decide to take your anger out on her former professor and nearly punched him. Who talked you out of it? OUR daughter," she ground out, before pushing him off of her.
Finn growled. "Is that why you brought me to your old apartment, so that you can yell at me in private? We could have easily done that back at our mansion."
"No, Finn, I brought you here because I wanted to rekindle our romance, make the fire between us burn again," Sage said. "But, I see now that I was a failure. And as far as hurting me goes, yes, Finnegan Cooper Mikaelson, you did hurt me! You hurt me when you only thought about getting revenge instead of trying to help your daughter with her problem! She was scared, and rightfully so, and instead of being there for her, like Caleb and everyone else is, you took it upon yourself to beat up on a man who resigned from his job because he knew he was going to be fired for his actions!" Hot tears stung her eyes and were freely falling down her cheeks. "This isn't like you at all! Yes, you're supposed to protect your children, but resorting to violence isn't the way to do it!"
"Do you want a divorce? Is that what you desire, Sage? Because I'd be glad to hand it over to you on a silver platter. I can see now where our daughter gets her stubbornness from!" Finn yelled back.
Sage slapped him again. "I didn't say that! Will you stop putting words in my mouth? Damn it, Finn, I love you and you're not making it easy for me!"
"Well then, what do you want from me, Sage, hmm? Do you want me to turn my back on the life I built up as an FBI agent? Is that what you want? I see violence EVERY bloody damn day, okay? And I've seen partners of my fellow agents, not just mine die in the line of duty! Who do you think has to tell their husbands or wives about it? ME, Sage; I have to do it, because everyone else is too damn scared to!"
Sage growled. "Again, stop putting words in my mouth! I don't want you to quit your job! What I want is for you not to be there all the time!" She sighed heavily. "You're just like your father, you know that?"
Finn glared at her before he got dressed then left the apartment, slamming the door behind him.
