Chapter 35

Home Sweet Home

Kacey smiled as she looked around the lab in front of her she had been in the UK for a week now, Lester had given her the week off so she could get adjusted to the new time zone and a new place. This lab was bigger than her old one and it was opposite Connor's, who's lab was just across the hallway. Kacey sighed as she spotted some wrapped up packages on the desk. Kacey walked over and picked up the largest.

I gave this to Lester just before you guys left,

Kacey smiled as she read the message before unwrapping it to find a picture that brought tears to her eyes it was a photo that was taken nearly a year ago at Helena and James's anniversary party... Everyone was in it. James and Helena were in the middle, Scott was standing to the left with Gabrielle, Mike, Chloe and Dave were on the right. Colin and Damien were also there and sitting in front of the photo, in front of Jason and Helena were her and Kate. Kacey smiled as she looked around spotting other people from the ARC filtering around the edges. Kacey smiled as she set the picture down before turning back to the other packages that now that she looked at them they all looked like pictures. Kacey smiled as she spotted her brother messy scrawl on the next one, Kacey gasped as she opened it up to find a picture of Nick, he was standing next to a silver Lexus with a smile on his face. Kacey smiled as she spotted the note on the back.

Everyone should have a picture their dad. X

Kacey smiled as placed that next to the big picture before picking up the next one which had Matt's writing on the label.

I completely forgot I had taken these pictures until I placed the

memory card in the laptop when we got in... I thought you would

like a couple of them blown up.

Kacey frowned as she unwrapped the package and smiled as the first picture it was of her and Becker looking out over the Columbia river making her smile at how relaxed they both were before she pulled the one from underneath out bringing tears to her eyes. Its was taken at the same place it was her and Kate sitting on the bench at Rocky Butte. Kacey smiled sadly as placed it down before looking at the last package on the table which was the biggest of them all making Kacey frown.

As much as Photo's make a nice work place I

know one thing that beats them all.

Kacey laughed as she peeled back the paper to reveal the coffee machine in the box.

"Hey how's the lab?" Connor asked standing at the door looking in to the lab that now belonged to his sister the place was still bare all Kacey's research was still in boxes that were stacked at the back of the lab and all the boards were blank nothing was set up. Connor smiled as he spotted the coffee machine.

"Yea, you know" Kacey smiled shrugging her shoulders as she was still adjusting to everything.

"Hows the apartment?" Connor asked looking at her and grinning as she rolled her eyes.

"Your not going to let it go are you?" Kacey asked shaking her head at him.

"No" Connor pouted as he stepped into the lab and looked at the pictures on the desk before stopping the one of Kacey and Becker and smiled before shaking his head. "What if it doesn't work out?" Connor whispered worriedly.

"Connor?" Kacey sighed looking at her brother. "I love him and I don't see that changing anytime soon" Kacey smiled as Connor still frowned. "Please just be happy for me and him" Kacey smiled as Connor nodded before hugging her tightly.

"I just love you" Connor whispered hugging her. "I don't want you to get hurt"

"Do you really think he would hurt me?" Kacey smiled as Connor shook his head. "And Connor just so we are clear... he asked me to move in with him. I don't think his going change his mind" Kacey grinned as Connor smiled.

"I know he loves you" Connor smiled as he looked at the picture again before turning to Kacey with a smile. "I'm just being crazily overprotective" Connor sighed as Kacey hugged him.

"Everything will be fine" Kacey sighed resting her head on Connor's shoulder with a sigh before she looked at the pile of boxes at the end of the lab with dread. "I didn't realise how much work I had" Kacey whispered as Connor laughed before shaking his head.

"Are you kidding me.. you are a workaholic" Connor smiled before nudging Kacey making her laugh.

"I know" Kacey sighed before looking back at the pile of boxes. "Wanna stay and help unpack some of them" Kacey smiled as Connor shook his head.

"No way... if you want help with them call your flatmate/boyfriend" Connor grinned before poking his tongue out as he walked to the door before smiling as he left making Kacey shake her head before turning back to look at the room with a sigh before headed over to the boxes and grabbing the first one with a small smile before opening it up and pulling out the top binder with a smile before looking around the lab.

Becker smiled as he walked into Kacey's new lab. She had been up here for nearly 4 hours apart from Connor no one had seen her since they had shown her to it. The white boards were all still blank but there were things stacked on the tops in different areas ready to be sorted and placed away. Becker smirked as he spotted Kacey sitting on the floor at the end of the lab with a box in front of her.

"Hey" Becker smiled making Kacey look up and smile before raising her eyebrow. "They sent me to make sure you were still alive as no one had seen you since this morning" Becker smiled as Kacey laughed and shook her head.

"Sorry, I just kind of got stuck in... I have a lot of work" Kacey smiled as Becker laughed as he nodded his head as he scanned the room before smiling as he spotted the picture of Kacey and Kate.

"You need any help?" Becker asked as Kacey held her hand up so Becker could help her up.

"No" Kacey smiled as she wrapped her hands around his neck. "I'm good" Kacey smiled before closing the distance between them and kissing him soundly. "Even better now" Kacey grinned making Becker roll his eyes.

"Is that so?" Becker laughed before closing the gap between them again with a smile on his face.

….

"Hey" Jess smiled as she looked up and spotted Kacey.

"Hey where is everyone?" Kacey smiled as she stopped next to Jess's chair which Kacey laughed at when she first saw it, a chair on rails it suited Jess.

"Around" Jess smiled as she turned the chair so she was now facing Kacey with a smile on her face. "Connor was looking for you thou... he was heading towards the menagerie when I saw him" Jess smiled as she turned back to the screen in front of her as Kacey laughed as she shook her head.

"Thanks Jess" Kacey laughed as she headed towards the menagerie.

Kacey smiled as she watched Connor and Abby through the window they were sitting side by side and the prehistoric lizard she was introduced to Rex crawling between the two of them.

"Hey" Kacey smiled as she entered the lab before stopping as Rex took flight and circled before landing on Kacey's shoulder making her smile as she scratched his head making Connor and Abby smile. "Hey Rex" Kacey smiled as she scratched his head before turning to Connor and Abby. "Jess said you were looking for me" Kacey smiled as Rex took off and landed back on Abby's leg.

"Yea. I just wanted you to know the Plaque we got for the grave arrived today" Connor smiled sadly as Kacey nodded as she wrapped her arms around herself. "We were planning on placing it tonight along with Nick's ashes?" Connor sighed as Kacey nodded making Abby smile before standing up and walking over to Kacey and grabbing her hand.

"Come on smile" Abby smiled making Kacey laugh, she and Abby had started to get really close. "I need to tell you something. I only told Connor this morning" Abby smiled looking over at Connor whose face split into two as he grinned. "I want you to be the second to know" Abby smiled as Kacey frowned looking between her brother and Abby.

"Ok what's going on?" Kacey asked looking back at Abby.

"I'm pregnant, your going to be an aunt" Abby smiled as Kacey gaped at them both before squealing as she hugged Abby tightly before Connor hugged them both making both Abby and Kacey laugh.

Kacey sighed as she looked out over London she was standing on the balcony in her new flat. You could just make out the Thames in the moonlight and hundreds of lights that spilled out of all the windows in all the buildings around them. The week had flown by it was surreal that if she thought about everything how quickly life can change. 3 months ago she had no idea that Connor even existed, meeting and falling in love with someone like Becker was just a fantasy, she had the greatest group of friends ever and she had her best friend. Now her best friend and some of their friends were dead, she not only had her brother she had a soon to be sister-in-law and a niece or nephew on the way. Plus she had Becker... which scared her she had never loved anyone as much as she did him.

Kacey smiled as she thought back to later that evening the whole team had gone to the cemetery to place Nick's ashes on the grave and Sophie Collins name on the plaque that sat on the front of the urn with Nick's ashes. After they had placed the urn on the grave Abby had announced her pregnancy to everyone who were all ecstatic for them. Life carried on no matter what and that was something she was starting to accept now... she knew no matter what she would never forget everything she had lost but what she had gained was starting to level out the loss.

Kacey smiled as she walked back into her apartment and shut door before walking back to the bedroom and crawling into bed where Becker was laying sound asleep making her smile.
