Weiss and I – 24 Hold On

"What antique store did you drag that out of?"

"It isn't that old Weiss."

I told Weiss as I carefully wheeled the bike out of the storeroom. It had been awhile since I had opened it, it was mainly a place to put things I didn't really need but felt too infatuated with to throw out. Couple years pass and suddenly most of these things were all but forgotten.

However, a mixture of boredom and curiosity on this particularly uneventful weekend had led me and Weiss (mostly me) to start burrowing through my old belongings.

The gem I spotted, hidden behind a hodgepodge of boxes was my old bike.

Thing was with me ever since I was a kid. Being the young, excitable fellow I failed to realise bikes were slowly becoming less and less popular in the city, bike racks began disappearing and with that so did most of the bicycles. I had very reluctantly kept it indoors and eventually, like a lot of my other things, were moved into the apparent and then shoved into the closet.

And there it had sat for nearly five years.

It may have been a little rusty but other than that it was surprisingly immaculate in fact, I was pretty sure the rust was there when I put it in to begin with, the chains still clicked as I turned the rear wheel.

"It should still be road worthy…"

I commented as I looked at it under the light of the living room.

"Do you even remember how to ride it?"

"Probably."

"That's reassuring…"

Weiss squat down beside me while I checked the chain and tyres to see if they were still in good condition.

"You ever ridden a bike before Weiss?"

I asked seeing the heiress's mild intrigue in her eyes.

In response Weiss shook her head.

"Never wanted to, these two-wheeled death machines were primitive then, even more so now."

She may have shot down the idea with her words, but her actions spoke quite the opposite as her hand lightly glided from the seat down to the flat rear rack that stretched over the rear wheel.

There was the slight glimmer in her eye like when I brought her to the ice rink last year. Now that I thought about it, a young girl in a wealthy family like hers probably saw no reason to get her a bicycle.

"Want to give it a try Weiss?"

She turned to me, her eyebrows raised in surprise.

"W-What?"

She stood up and took several steps back, her head now turned away.

"N-No…I'll…just get myself hurt…"

"How about you ride with me?"

"That doesn't exactly make me feel safer."

Annoyed by her lack of faith I stood up and took hold of her hands.

"C'mon, it'll be fun."

My words, coupled with the smile I gave her seemed to lower her defences somewhat.

"Besides…it's almost time we head out for dinner anyway."

"If I fall of this thing even once…"

I didn't give her the chance I quickly turned back to the bike and began wheeling it towards the door.

After setting it up just outside the apartment I went back in and fished out an air pump to refill the tyres.

Weiss decided she wanted little to have to do with it so she stood idly by and watched.

After the struggle to get it down the stairs to the bottom floor we were finally ready to set off, just in time too as the Sun was beginning to vanish behind the silhouette of the City.

As I straddled the saddle, I waited for the heiress who hesitantly paced towards the bike.

"Um… isn't there seat or something?"

She asked as she stared at the rear rack.

"I didn't exactly expect to have someone ride with me so… I guess…hang on?"

The longer I let the silence linger the more uncertain the heiress looked. I couldn't really help at this point either as my experience with bikes didn't cover that. I knew how to ride a bike sure but I never thought there'd ever be a girl, let alone a girlfriend to ride with me.

Eventually Weiss gently set herself down on the rack sideways, her hands gripping the edge and her legs hovering above the ground on the right side of the bike.

"You ok?"

"Yeah…J-Just…let's go."

Her grip on the rack tightened as I kicked off, it was harder than I once remembered, probably because I had been quite a while and also the added weight of a passenger. After a bit of cautious balancing I was getting back into the swing of things.

Hugging the sidewalk we made our way down the road. It was fairly smooth, with the exception of the occasional bump in the road, making Weiss let out a small but sharp yelp every time I went over one.

"See? Not that bad right? It's like Yang's bike."

"Ye…only bumpier. Much, much bumpier."

There was a brief silence.

"Wait… you were on Yang's bike?"

She asked.

"Bumblebee? Yeah, it's awesome."

I replied, mildly confused by her question

"I didn't know you could drive a motorcycle."

"I uh… can't I rode with Yang."

"W-What? When?"

With all these questions coming my way, it suddenly felt like I was being interrogated, my grip on the handlebars got tighter.

"That was…like… a month ago. Remember how you had to make that quick trip overseas for that business thing."

There was a soft 'oh' from the heiress. She didn't say anything for a while which made me even more anxious.

"S-So you sat behind Yang…"

"Yeah…I guess."

It was starting to become clear why she was asking all these questions. Yang had offered to take me on a ride on Bumblebee, something like that was difficult to turn down. I did have a hang onto Yang sure…

It wasn't like there was any intimacy…

Of course, why would I expect Weiss to believe that?

"You held onto her right?"

"Unless I wanted to get a face-full of road I had to."

I tried my best to explain how there lacked any other option.

I felt a pair of hands crawl onto the side of my hip, nearly throwing me off balance. Weiss hunted and found the thickest portion of my pants and gingerly help onto them.

"Y-You held here?"

She asked, her voice shaky and barely louder than whisper.

"Um…higher."

I could almost feel the discomfort radiating off Weiss as her hands inched up my body.

"Here?"

Her hands slowly creeped up the sides of my body.

I was barely able to stay on my wheels at this point, let alone properly consider what I was going to say. I incoherently mumbled

"H-Higher…"

I felt my feet slide on the pedals and my fingernails sank into the rubber grips of the handles.

At some point, the words I thought I had said weren't making it out of my mouth

Eventually making their way up to and past my waist. Nearly reaching my chest. A mixture of fright, regret and confusing finally culminated in me uttering

"W-Weiss maybe it wasn't that hi-."

"DUNCE!"

She yelled harshly into my ear. I swerved hard on the road damn near putting both of us on the ground. That wasn't going to stop Weiss though.

"DISGUSTING DOLT!"

Her arms locked around me with rib-crushing strength. Squeezing out every last breath I had that I could've used to improve the situation.

I began regretting dragging myself into this.

Struggling to continue peddling straight I slowed to a crawl alongside a small, narrow and quiet stretch of road next to one of the canals that flowed out into the sea.

Now I could, regain some of my composure I turned around to face the heiress only to have her looking away from me, completely silent, a glaring contrast to just a second ago.

Her silence was often more distressing than her yelling.

"W-Weiss…listen, I know why you're angry but…"

It garnered no response as the cold, stern glare of the heiress continued.

"L-Look Weiss…I got a ride on Yang's bike, end of story. I-I'm sure Yang would tell you the exact same thing. I can't really do anything if you don't believe me so…"

"I know… I know… it's just…"

Her response came out as little more than a murmur. The rest of that sentence died in her throat.

"I'm being selfish aren't I?"

She asked softly. A part of me wanted to agree with her, though she most likely won't be happy with that, not that she was exactly in a cheery mood as it was.

"No, of course not-."

"Don't lie to me."

I quickly swallowed the rest of my sentence. Weiss was not one for self-criticism so this was came as a surprise to me. I felt the side of Weiss's face press against me chest, her arms quickly tightened around my chest as if she was about to fall off the back of the bike at the smallest gust of wind.

I slowed down a little, giving me the chance to talk.

"I would react the same way if it were the other way around…"

While I couldn't deny it was selfish, I could tell her as much. I eventually came to stop by the side of the road, the bright auburn sunlight hit the right side of my face and the wind flowed through my slightly sweaty hair

"Why'd you stop?"

"I thought it was a nice view."

I answered as I dropped the stand of the bike down and turned to face her.

She threw a quick glance at the evening sky before turning back to me, her eyes still stormy despite the radiant sunset glow.

"I know I reacted was wrong and I'm so-.

"Don't say sorry Weiss, it's just a misunderstanding and besides, like I said, I probably would've acted like that if you were grabbing onto a guy like that."

"No, you wouldn't, you're not like that."

I cocked my head to the side at what she said

"You were always the one to calm me down, whatever you say, in your voice, always make me feel safer… something I wished I had before entered Beacon."

"Why's that?"

"Sometimes, my parents won't listen to me, they're busy people. I found that if I shouted or sounded more entitled I got what I wanted more often so… I just got into the habit of it I guess."

She leaned closer to me, her arm coiling around mine.

"But with you, it's different, sure you're stubborn beyond belief sometimes but… at the end of the day, even without having to say anything you care about me… I like that."

She hesitated for a second before continuing.

"I-I get to be jealous …sometimes…right?"

She nestled herself into my neck. It was unique feeling being so important to someone I cared about so much. The beauty and innocence of her affection felt like soft silk wrapping itself around my body.

I couldn't hold back, I reached up to her cheek and pulled her lips against mine.

Not an ounce of resistance was put up by the heiress as she seemed to melt in my embrace.

Weiss slowly began pulling away, turning her head to the side she whispered.

"You're really sweaty…"

Weiss was being a bit too honest for my taste, self-conscious, I tried to back up even further from the heiress.

The only problem was I was sitting sideways on a thin bicycle seat. My body lurched suddenly found myself looking up at the sky and a stinging ache at the back of my head, accompanied by the bemused giggling from Weiss.

"Ouch."

With her hand held over her mouth she desperately stifled her laughter and desperately fought back tears. At least she was happy again.

With a pout I picked myself back up on my feet.

"You alright?"

She finally asked after calming down.

"Pride's a little bruised…and maybe the back of my head."

"Good, because I'm hungry."

Shaking my head I got myself back onto the bike.

"Well then let's not keep the princess waiting."

"Try not to fall off the bike again."

Flinching at the quick harshness I replied

"Wow, breaking my heart over here Weiss."

Weiss went on to treat what I just said as never existing.

"I want to go to that restaurant across the street from the old theatre."

She said, a newfound energy in her voice. Kicking the stand up, I turn around one last time to say

"Alright. Hold on tight."

"Like you need to tell me."

A.N: So, long story short my laptop might be dying, my hard drive was found corrupted earlier this week and have lost a lot of work (thank god for cloud saves for salvaging some).

This is a major bummer and an even larger hindrance to my schoolwork. The next chapter might be a little late depending on how quickly i can straighten all of this back out.
