Hi everyone! Here's another chapter, and it only took me about a month. Now this is the 37th chapter, and I plan on having 40 chapters (plus one more for the epilogue). This is a little shorter than other chapters, but this one really establishes what will happen in the rest of the story. Hope you enjoy and PLEASE REVIEW!
Rose sat in the Quidditch stands, ready to cheer on her boyfriend and cousin. As the cold air blew, she wrapped Scorpius's green and silver scarf even tighter around her neck. Alaina made some comment to her, and Rose nodded hoping Alaina would not notice she wasn't paying attention. The last time Scorpius had played in a game he had gotten massively hurt. Although Rose knew he could handle it, she was still nervous for him.
"Rose, is that Mason Sampson?" Lily asked, poking her cousin.
"Mhmm, what?"
"The scout from the Wasps, here to look at Al. Is that him?" she asked, pointing to a fairly large man a few rows over.
"Probably. Let's just hope Al does well today," she replied.
Rose knew how desperately Al wanted to play professional Quidditch. This would be his chance, and she hoped that Al could impress the scout today.
With that the game began. Rose's nerves were building, hoping that Slytherin would come out on top. She could not believe she would ever wish for such a thing, and yet here she was.
Within a few minutes Slytherin had an early lead, mostly because of Scorpius's efforts. He continued to score on the Hufflepuff keeper, and Rose was so proud. Her throat became sore from all the cheering she was doing. Al continued to search high and low for the snitch, but he couldn't seem to find it. The Hufflepuff seeker, Rivers, seemed to be clueless too, as he couldn't find it either. Rose continued to glance at the Wasps scout, as he took avid notes on her cousin's performance. She hoped he was impressed with Albus, but it is somewhat hard to judge a seeker until he spots the snitch.
Once Slytherin was leading 110-20, Albus took off for the other side of the pitch, as if he had saw something. The snitch was hovering around the Hufflepuff goal posts, unnoticed by Rivers. However, once he saw where Albus was headed, he started to fly in that direction too. Rose cursed under her breath, hoping that Al would beat him to it. But Rivers was already closer to the goalposts, which gave Albus a disadvantage. With every second that passed, Al gained on Rivers, flying faster and faster. They were now neck and neck, only feet away from the snitch. The entire pitch became quiet, as they all could only focus on the two seekers. Both reached their hands out, hoping they would be the one to grab the snitch. Rivers and Al sped past the goal hoops, finally attempting to stop their brooms. With a wide grin, Al raised his hand into the air, with the snitch in hand.
The Quidditch pitch roared as players and fans rejoiced: Slytherin had won! Lily and Alaina hugged Rose before they made their way onto the pitch to congratulate the boys. Rose immediately found Scorpius and she ran into his arms. He was ecstatic that his team had won, and it didn't hurt that he had significantly contributed. They were about to reach Albus and congratulate him, when they saw him talking to the Wasps' scout. They didn't want to easedrop, but Rose and Scorpius wanted to know what the scout was saying. Was he too impressed with Albus? They tried to wait patiently, but somehow they wound up inching closer and closer to Albus and Sampson. When the discussion was over, Albus smiled and politely shook the man's hand. He saw Rose and Scorpius eyeing him, so he practically ran over to the pair.
"Well?" Rose asked, hoping for the best.
"He offered me a spot on the Wimbourne Wasps!" Al said, ecstatic.
Albus was greeted with an onslaught of congratulations. Rose couldn't stop hugging her cousin, as she was so proud of him. His hard work had paid off.
The three of them tried to make their way up to the castle, but it seemed as if they were stopped every few moments, as someone new wanted to congratulate Scorpius and Al on the win.
"Now you just have to beat Gryffindor next," Rose said.
"Ehh, shouldn't be too hard," Scorpius teased.
"I'll have you know, Wood has been working us extremely hard, as he refuses to lose to you guys!"
"Well then Wood will be disappointed, when we kick your sorry arses," Albus replied. "Oh yeah, I almost forgot! We're definitely going to have a party in the Slytherin common room tonight. You both better be there."
"I don't know, Al. We really need to finish our applications to the Auror program and it's very time consuming. You're just lucky you don't have to fill out any applications!" Rose sighed.
"Just come down for a little bit. You deserve a break."
"Okay, Al. And I'll make sure to drag Rose with me," Scorpius said teasingly. "But then we'd better start working now. We'll see you later."
Scorpius and Rose headed up the flight of stairs to the Head's common room as Al started off towards the basement. Albus couldn't believe it: he was going to be playing professional Quidditch. This was a dream come true, to be paid to play Quidditch! As his mind wandered, he didn't see the girl's lavatory door open and a small figure walk out and accidentally slam into him.
"Oh!" she cried. "Sorry! Oh, Albus, it's you. I, uh, didn't see you there."
Albus looked up and saw that it was Alice. Of course, it was Alice.
"No problem, Alice. Sorry I wasn't really looking at where I was going," he muttered, avoiding her eyes.
"It's fine. Umm, good job at the match today. You did great, from what I saw. I got there a little late, but you did amazing."
"Oh thanks! Actually, um, Mason Sampson from the Wimbourne Wasps came to see me play. He offered me a spot on the team."
"Al, that's fantastic! I'm so proud of you!" Alice went in to hug him, but then stopped realized that could be awkward. She immediately backed up, keeping her distance.
"Yeah, uh, I'm excited."
"That is so great. Umm, listen, I'm gonna go, but congratulations again on the match."
"Wait, Alice?" Albus started, reaching out to stop Alice. "Can I ask you something?"
"Of course."
There was a moment of silence as Albus gained his courage. He needed to ask Albus this. Maybe it would finally make him feel better, once and for all.
"Are you happy with Kilmer?" he whispered, surprised he had actually said it.
Alice looked up at him, somewhat nervous to answer.
"I'm happy enough. He really cares for me and is very open, you know? I'm really shy, so it's nice that he tells me what he's thinking and that he puts himself out there. Plus, he really listens to me and cares about what I think. So, yeah, I'm happy, I guess," she whispered.
"Oh, okay. Uh, thanks I'll see you later."
Alice was happy with her boyfriend. And it wasn't him. With every passing day, Albus thought he was getting more and more over Alice, and now he had to get sucked back in. But she was happy, which meant he should be happy for her. And yet, Albus did not feel happy at all.
After returning from the Quidditch match, Rose went into her room to get her quill so her and Scorpius could start on their Auror applications. She couldn't believe that it was that time anyway. She would send off the application soon, and a letter would return by mid-April with either an acceptance, contingent on her NEWT scores, or a denial. Then she would graduate from Hogwarts, move in with Scorpius and Albus, and they would begin their lives. She was no longer a child anymore. As she grabbed her quill, she heard a pecking on her window. Her owl sat perched outside with a letter in its beak. Rose opened the window and took the letter from Talia, giving her a treat. When she opened the letter, she saw it was from her Uncle Harry.
Dear Rose,
I hope everything is going well at school. I can't believe how old you and Albus are getting. I still remember when you two boarded the Hogwarts Express for the first time. Sometimes it seems like yesterday!
Anyway, I'll cut to the chase. I was speaking with my contact at the Spanish Ministry, and we happened to speak a lot today about their auror program. Although I am a little biased, the Spanish auror program is much smaller and quite a prestigious program. Auror Davens and I talked a lot about you, and although he could make no guarantees, it seemed like you would be the perfect candidate for their program. I would love for you to train under me and your father, but if Spain is a better fit and program for you, then you should go to Spain. I've attached the brochure and application. Now I know this may seem out of the blue, but just think about it Rose. Apply and see what happens. I love you and want what's best for you. Owl me if you have any questions.
Love,
Uncle Harry
Rose couldn't believe it. She had never considered attending any other auror academy and training under anyone besides her uncle and father. That had always been her dream. But if her uncle, head auror, recommended she apply for another program, the least she could do is apply. That didn't mean she had to go there, just that she was showing interest. She didn't have to commit to anything at this moment. But what if she decided she did want to go to Spain? She would be leaving Scorpius. And that broke her heart. They could always see each other, but it would be a lot more difficult. Could she really live in another country for at least two years? Her and Scorpius had already made plans to live with each other, as they presumed they would be going through training together. Now she would be destroying this plan, if she did actually decide to go to Spain.
On the other hand, she owed it to herself to at least apply to the Spanish program. She loved Scorpius with all of her heart, but she had to do this for herself. Rose took a deep breath, and started to look at the flyer. The program did seem quite good. She had just never heard of the program because it was unusual for students to go to other countries to train to become an auror. However, this did seem like a good fit. The staff was highly qualified, and the smaller number of trainees meant she would get more attention and one-on-one interaction with proven aurors. Rose could always transfer back to the British ministry once her training was done, and she could work in England. This didn't have to be forever, but maybe it would be for the best. Rose knew that in order to start working on this application, which seemed quite extensive, she would need to finish the application she had already started. She sighed, knowing now she had a lot more work to do.
Rose then thought about Scorpius. Should she tell him about the Spanish program? But what was the point at this stage? She might not even get in; the program seemed very prestigious. Rose could work on the application when she wasn't with Scorpius, and if and only if she got in, then she would tell him so he could help her make a decision. It would be useless to tell him now. It might even get him upset for nothing, considering she may not go to Spain at all. Rose had made up her mind: don't tell Scorpius, or anyone else, about this for now. That would be the best thing to do. It would hurt the least amount of people.
She wrote a quick reply to her Uncle Harry, thanking him and asking him to keep this between the two of them. Rose then grabbed her quill and headed into the common room, where Scorpius was already working.
"Hey, what took you so long?" he asked, giving her a quick peck on her forehead.
"I just got a letter from my Uncle Harry."
"Oh, what did it say?"
"Nothing really. Nothing at all.
Hope you liked it! Please review, and another (more drama filled) chapter should be up soon!
