Yasumi Niki was a well respected Capitan who was sent back to Overland for integration into the Grenadiers, she was a rare half elf half human soldier. Half elf's where rare due to an incompatibility with humans, because of this the chances of half elf's being born was around 20%. but if a half elf was born they would be granted with heightened hearing, unlimited magic, faster reactions and speed. Essentially they have the best quality's of both races and sometimes the worst quality's like greed.

Thankfully she only had the loyalty of an Elf and right now she focused on her studies of the military ranks. Something that she needed to get familiar with as she was introduced into the officer corp. the ranks where: Private, Lance Corporal, Corporal and Sargent. The non commissioned officers where as follows: Sargent Major, Major. After that where the commissioned officers which where: Staff Major, Capitan, Commander and Command General. These where the ranks that where obtainable by any member of the military.

However they're two other ranks which where General's who where people chosen by the other Generals. The final rank was Shogun who would be selected by the Ou himself based on some requirements he can see in a person. Everyone in the Grenadiers qualified to be there but there few who qualified to become Shogun and the Ou made it clear that there was no amount of training that could make them Shogun.

Everyone knew that there was only two people who became Shogun due to their command and tactical abilities. But Yasumi wasn't interested in that as she was planning to become an Elite Miko she was seriously devoted to the Phoenix Order. She believed Ren to be a god in the flesh along with his wife's and prayed every night for him to watch over her. Given that everyone knew Ren wasn't omnipresent it was more of comfort manoeuvre than anything else to give them peace of mind.

Once she finished she climbed into bed and soon fell asleep.

OOOOO

Ren and Jenna looked out at the sea as the ship they where on sailed across the Arcton sea. Yuki waned Ren to say due to the vision they had but he refused in order to make this meeting. The ride was going to take two days to reach Swea then they would make it in time for the meeting Ren wasn't up to scratch for the politics of this world as such he had no idea who was friends with who and so on. So Jenna being the most experienced in politics went with him to help him out in the endeavour.

His Kids wanted to spend more time with him but he said that he would bring them something back. With that they allowed him to go. But not without some demands about toys and sweets. Ren just smiled at that. They kinda reminded him of when he was a kid. Remembering he had a bit of work to finish off he walked back inside the ship and into his room. Jenna enjoyed the sea so she stayed out for a little longer. As he sat down Ren opened one of the draws before he heard something. He looked around only to see a red apple roll from under the bed half eaten.

Just then a small hand came out and grabbed the apple as fast as it could before withdrawing. Interested he got up and walked over to the bed. He then got down on one knee and looked under the bed to see a young girl chewing on an apple. As soon as she saw Ren she jumped up from under the bed and latched onto him making him fall on his back.

"Daddy." she yelled as she held him tight.

Her red hair was quite obvious and Ren knew who it was.

"Rinma, what are you doing here?" he asked in absolute shock.

"Wanted to be with daddy. So I came." she said in her childish voice.

"Please tell me you at least told your mother." Ren said.

Rinma shook her head making Ren's eyes widen before he sighed.

"Ok but when we get home your grounded." he said sternly making Rinma give him puppy dog eyes.

OOOOO

"Well that a relief." Yuki said leaning back in her chair.

After Ren and Jenna left for Sawe they noticed that Rinma had disappeared from the castle. The past few days they looked for her inside and out but she never turned up. Now with Ren calling them though the communication orb and told them now they could relax.

"So what else has been happening?" he asked.

"Well Kelda-chan has been panicking about the Inquisition. There are rumours that there's going to be an attack from them. Celda's gone to visit her sister as there are rumours that a few of the clans might revolt. And that's about it, but there is something interesting. We have a military engineer by the name of Ukemoto. She's a former Empire citizen, currently she's working for us."

"What has she made?" Ren asked with interest.

"Well that's the thing, her son who's in the Militia took some equipment some and Ukemoto took a look at the gear. She made, breach weapons including, machine gun, rifle and revolver. Currently she's working on other projects for the army."

"That's impressive." Ren admitted as he thought that those wouldn't come that soon. "Is she being paid?"

"Yeah she is as a military engineering specialist. Which is a lot." Yuki said smiling. "We are currently working on the prototypes of the weapons, as well as working on some steam powered stuff."

"Makes sense, oh and before I forget when Rinma gets back she's grounded for a week."

"I hear that well hope the meeting goes well see you soon."

"Same." Ren said before the communication cut.

OOOOO

It had been a short time since Overland was created but now it was a thriving metropolis. So much so that the wall guarding the city soon became known as the 'Inner city wall' as people started to build outside the walls. However due to strict building laws these builds where more along the lines of apartment buildings then anything. Cables connected each building together and where also connected to wooden posts to hold them up. Thanks to the new electricity and bulb that was made by Queen Celda people no longer needed candles to light their homes. More and more people began to immigrate to Chian for a better life which it offered. This became known as the 'Chian dream'.

However the Empire wasn't impressed at all. This was mostly because they saw these people as traitors to their own nations. With the use of steam and industrialisation they became more hostile to nations. The continent that they where on simply known as Heartland had been at war due to the Empire's expansion for years. Given the size of the continent (roughly the size of the USA and Canada) it would take a little longer until Heartland would be in Empire control. When that happens the Emperor planned to take on Chian.

This wasn't so much a secret but more of a plan that everyone knew. Because of this reason Ren made sure to get his military ready for that day. But the real question was what kind of environment would the war take place in. Thankfully he had a few books on this and outlined his plan to his wives. The first was called the World war 1 scenario. This meant that the war would probably be fought in the trenches just like in 1914-1918 from where Yuki and Ren came from.

If this was the case then it could be problematic. This was due to the fact that they would have aerial vehicles to deal with in order to get supply's to the front lines. Celda pointed out that they could use teleportation magic but Ren pointed out that the magic was not so trustworthy. But given that magic would be a contributing factor in the war it wasn't likely that this scenario would happen. The second was labelled World war 2 scenario, this one said that the environment would be like that in the war in 1939-1945.

This one they could all agree might happen given how they where progressing. There was no particular plan for this one. While the trench warfare maybe hard to fight with but could found a way round the World war 2 plan was a little more complicated. Given that in what ever war would happen Magic would be a major contributing factor. Because of this the Empire could come up with fantastical war machines that could hamper the Chian war effort they would have to come up with plans as the war went on.

After that the scenarios where just about using advanced tech and magic in order to fight the Empire. So until the time arrives Chian has to prepare and be ready.

OOOOO

Ukemoto looked at her new plans for what she named the 'Battle tank'. It was an armoured vehicle using steam technology to power it. The battle tank used treads in order to move forward which where operated by small wheels. The tank itself was shaped in a v shape at the front with a cannon on the top which could move. The sides of the tank where sloped to protect the crew inside but caused it to be less manoeuvrable. This was just one of the vehicles she had made.

Another one she designed as called 'Iron walker'. This machine was her best one due to the fact that she worked with Celda on it. The machine itself was a bipedal walker with a box like object on two legs with two weapons on ether side of the box. One of the problems she found with this was balancing. She and Celda found a way round this with a balancing point gyro that would keep the walker upright.

Ukemoto felt a little strange as she didn't want her nation to fall but then again she didn't want anyone to die due to her creations. It was a little weird to her. On the one had she would be helping out her nation, her country. But then she would be indirectly taking people's life's away. She had told Celda this problem. But all the queen said is that even if she didn't make these weapons someone else and much worse will. She had to admit the Queen did have a point but it didn't make her feel any better.

She sat down on her chair as she looked at the prototype breach weapons she had made. The first was a bolt action rifle that was meant for the standard foot soldier. It was a 10 round stripper clip weapon. Yuki commented on it saying it looked like a 'Lee Enfield from World war 2', whatever that meant. But she was pleased that she could make the Queen interested. The next was a revolving weapon that had a cylinder in the middle above the handle and trigger. A side arm weapon to be used by all.

The two final weapons she labelled as machine guns. The first was a large tripod weapon that should be used by two people. A belt-fed weapon that was capable of firing a lot of rounds in a few seconds. The second was she was still working on but was smaller and used the revolver rounds but something was wrong with it that she just couldn't put her finger on. She laid back in her chair and looked at the ceiling.

OOOOO

The ship came into dock at the main city of Swae. Ren and Jenna looked over at the European style city in awe. Rinma was being held up by Ren as she looked too with a sense of wonder in her mind. As the ramp came down and landed on the deck the three walked off the ship and onto the wood before meeting a man in blue and gold.

"Ou Ren I presume?" he asked.

"That's me." Ren simply stated.

"Good, the King is expecting you, if you'll please follow me." the man said as he turned and walked away.

In the distance a female assassin saw Ren and drew her mask over her face. This time he will not survive.
