Odd heard Elsa's cry for help, and quickly, he ran back to the church, to see the Queen tugging at the hem of her dress, which was caught under a large slab that had fallen from the roof. His eyes widened, and he began to run forward, only focusing on her, but she was not looking at him, rather at the ceiling.
Her eyes locked with his sadly, and she mouthed something that Odd took to mean 'I'm sorry', and he gasped, understanding. He tried to run faster, but her hand had already waved, freezing the doorway solid, and he slammed into the ice as a large slab of wreckage fell just after. He was very relieved that he hadn't been crushed, but now, he could only watch and stare helplessly as rubble fell all around Elsa, and the Queen collapsed in a little ball. A massive slab of debris fell in front of her, making her cry out in surprise, and Odd jumped into action, desperate to do something.
As he rushed around the edges of the church, he sighed audibly as he found no entrance into the building, and he pounded on the brick wall hopelessly, desperately, but all that came from his actions were very painful knuckles. Gripping his hand in pain, he looked around, and saw the window. Quickly, he scrambled up, as Anna's voice rang through the air, "ELSA!"
Though the windows were smashed, there was no way that he could get past the iron bars, and though he tried to bend them, nothing was giving. Backing up quickly, he scanned the area from his higher vantage point.
Glancing around, his eyes locked on something not too far away, and he grinned. Voila.
Jumping down from the ledge, he ran as quickly as he could over to Kristoff and Anna, panting slightly, and said, "Over here!" The pair ran over quickly, and Rapunzel and Eugene came over also.
"Okay, here's the plan." He said, "Do you guys see that sled over there?" The group nodded, and Odd's voice shook slightly as he continued. "Okay, Kristoff, Eugene, I'm going to need you to fetch Sven for me, and maybe my horse too."
Anna was eager to chip in and help the cause. "How about Misty - my horse - too?" She suggested, and Odd nodded. Eugene also offered to get Maximus, which was a good idea.
"Okay, then. In the meantime, Rapunzel, Anna, could you go and get a couple of lengths of rope, and then meet me back here?"
Everyone nodded, and ran off, and Odd sighed worriedly, rushing back to the frozen doorway, grabbing a rock from the ground and desperately began chipping away at the ice, although his efforts had little effect on the blockage, and by the time Kristoff and Eugene had returned with the animals, and Rapunzel and Anna were back with the rope, all he'd managed to achieve was the slightest indentation in the thick wall.
Looking through the ice, Odd noticed the Sorceress still moving, just about, and he frowned, his eyes glued to her as she feebly waved her hand, before her body lay limp and she was dead. For a split second, it seemed like nothing had happened, and then there was a massive explosion, as rubble exploded suddenly, unexpectedly, and Elsa curled up in a little ball as her body was battered with a torrential shower of debris. Odd watched in slow motion as a brick collided with her head, knocking her out and the Queen let out a yell of shock without even knowing it, as her body crumpled.
Shaking, Odd rushed back over to the others, his eyes wide and fearful. "We've got to be quick," He said, as he rushed over to the sled from earlier. He knew full well that head injuries could be fatal, if not treated quickly. "Kristoff, Eugene, Anna. Tie the animals to the back of the sled."
Anna frowned, but obliged anyway, too scared for her sister's safety to question anything, as did Eugene and Kristoff, who both looked thoroughly puzzled, and just as worried.
"O-Okay." Odd said, stuttering nervously, "Now, Rapunzel, hand one end of your hair to Anna, and hold it tight behind the sled."
Though it was an absurd request, the two women didn't say anything, for both knew full well that Odd knew what he was doing, or at least, they hoped so.
"Right, then." Odd said, as he went over to the animals. Turning to the two Princes, he said, "Help the girls hold Rapunzel's hair." And sent them a look that said quite plainly, 'Don't ask'.
Hopping onto Storm Chaser's back, he pulled the hair on the horse's neck so that the stallion began to back up, listening to his owner loyally. "I'm going to try and get the animals to pull the sled back, but don't let it move, if you can. That way, it'll be like a bow, sort of, and then the sled should, in theory, smash into the ice and break it."
It wasn't actually such a bad idea, although as the animals walked further and further backwards, it became increasingly difficult for Eugene, Kristoff, Rapunzel and Anna to not be dragged along. Odd looked around desperately, and called over some nearby villagers to help hold Rapunzel's hair - something that was very strange to everyone - so that they could get enough pressure on the sled.
After about a minute, Odd hopped off of Storm Chaser, while making sure the sled was still being pulled back, and he pulled a small, sharp blade out of his pocket.
"Get ready, everyone!" He said, as he gather the ropes up in one hand and, with a cut from the sharp blade, they were sliced cleanly, and the sled, completely free from the pressure it had been under, zoomed towards the ice, and Odd's positioning of it originally had been true. It crashed against the ice with a thunderous boom, and at first nothing happened, but then a small crack appeared, then it grew larger, spreading across the ice, before it smashed in hundreds of little crystals of ice.
Odd grinned, and he ran forward quickly, Anna running at his side just as desperate to get to Elsa.
Rushing into the church, which now looked like it had just been a war site, the group began to search through all of the rubble, but only Odd had seen where Elsa had fallen. Quickly, he began to shift the debris as quickly as he could, and yelled to the others when he found the Queen's hand, clearing the rest of the rubble with even more enthusiasm.
By the time all of the fallen brickwork had been removed, Odd bent down to lift her out of the rubble, but jumped in shock when he touched her skin.
"She's ice cold!" He gasped, as he wrapped his arms around her body and lifted her out, wincing himself as he surveyed her injuries. Anna placed her hand on Elsa's forehead, but she quickly drew it back in surprise.
"Odd's right," She said, worriedly. "Something must be wrong - even Elsa's never this cold!"
Kristoff looked around, then called Sven over, getting onto his back and pulling Anna up. "We'd better get back to the castle," He said, and Odd nodded, going over to Storm Chaser and using a nearby log as a mounting block, sloppily getting onto the stallion's back for his hands were still holding tightly onto Elsa, even if they were numb by now.
Clicking his tongue, Odd gave the horse a quick squeeze and then they sped off towards the castle, the man removing his jacket and placing it over Elsa's frozen body, knowing it would not do anything to thaw her, but he could still hope. Kristoff clung onto Anna tightly, also, holding her comfortingly, for she was understandingly worried about her sister.
Watching Odd, his mind wandered to the day when his Princess had frozen solid, similarly to Elsa, although the Queen was simply cold and not moving, instead of being actual ice. He recalled placing his hat upon Anna's head as she slowly froze from the ice in her heart, and if it hadn't been for the circumstances, Kristoff would have smiled at the coincidence.
It only took a few minutes to reach the castle, by which time Odd literally couldn't feel his hands, but that was the least of his worries as he hopped off of Storm Chaser quickly and landed heavily on his feet, wincing as pain shot through his legs from the bad landing, but it did not deter him. Rushing forward, he ran into the gates and pushed them open with his shoulder, sprinting as quickly as he could through the courtyard with a Queen in his arms. Even Kristoff would have found it a little tricky, but Odd was in no way nearly as strong as the mountain man, and multiple times he tripped.
Slamming the castle doors open, he continued to run desperately, his chest burning, his arms almost falling off, not to mention completely numb from Elsa's icy cold skin, and his legs wobbled around weakly like jelly on the polished floors.
Anna ran in quickly after him, shouting as loud as her lungs would allow her, "Someone fetch the doctor!" as she sprinted quickly, hot on his tail, with Kristoff galloping clumsily after as his wife dragged his hand. Rapunzel and Eugene rushed in afterwards, and the sight was rather bizarre.
Odd burst through the doors to Elsa's bedroom - her own room, not the room she was meant to now share with Bjørn - and quickly lay her down on the four poster bed gently, covering her over with as many covers as he could find, while Anna lit a fire in the over large fire place which had rarely before been used. Kristoff and Eugene rushed off to find if the Doctor was nearby, and Rapunzel went over to her eldest cousin, wrapping her hair around her chest, where her heart was located, and began to sing her special healing incantation. The hair glowed, as was normal, but nothing happened, and strangely enough, she smiled.
"What is it, Rapunzel?" Anna asked, quickly skipping over to check her sister, while Odd came over quickly also, but both's faces fell quickly. "Nothing happened."
Rapunzel nodded happily. "Exactly, Anna!" She replied, grinning. "That means that she's already alive! If what you said about my hair bringing me and Eugene back to life, then it should have worked on Elsa too, but nothing happened, so she can't have been dead!"
Anna smiled slightly, not completely happy, but somewhat reassured, but Odd frowned in thought.
"But, how can someone be frozen, but not be dead?" He asked, and the others paused, not knowing how to answer. It was a fair point, and they thought, but no one had any ideas.
After a while, Anna suggested, "Perhaps she froze her own heart?" But Odd shook his head.
"If she froze her heart, she would have turned completely to ice." He pointed out, and Rapunzel frowned, completely lost for ideas.
Kristoff and Eugene returned a few moments later with the doctor, and they slowly walked in as the man began to examine his Queen, bending down to listen for a heart beat, feeling for her pulse, everything. After a few moments, however, he stood up, shaking his head.
"I do not think there is anything that I can do." He said, hanging his head as he bowed to the royals, keeping his gaze from Odd - as far as the doctor was concerned, he had much more status that the little man who had brought Elsa into the castle. "She has no pulse, no heart beat, and there is no warmth at all in her body. I am afraid she is gone." He exited the room without another word, and Anna felt herself go red in anger.
"How can he just stand there and say that!" She cried, in a rage. "He didn't even conduct any proper tests on her! I'm going to get him, I'll drag him back, I'll-" Angrily, she ran for the door to get the man, but Kristoff caught her.
"Hey, there, Fiestypants." He said quietly, his voice heavy with sadness, for he had loved Elsa as much as a sister as he did Anna, as his wife. "There's nothing else the doctor can do for her."
Anna began to shake in his arms, as tears rolled down her cheeks, and she pounded on Kristoff's chest in denial.
"No! No! No!" She choked out, her fists thumping her husband, gradually getting weaker. "She's not dead! She's not! She's a-a-alive! R-Rapunzel said s-so!" In her mourning, her legs gave way, and Kristoff had to catch her to stop her falling on the floor.
Looking over at Rapunzel, he lifted his eyebrow, questioningly, and she nodded.
"She isn't dead, Kristoff." She said, "I'm pretty sure my hair can bring the dead back to life, at least if they didn't die too long ago, but nothing happened with Elsa, so there's no way she can have passed."
Kristoff frowned, thinking, and then he nodded.
"I know what to do." He said, as he put Anna down gently and motioned for Eugene and Odd to come with him. "We'll be back by late afternoon, at the latest." He informed the girls, and the ex-thief crossed his arms, raising his eyebrows.
"We will, eh?" He said, teasingly, but at Kristoff's serious glare he sighed. "Fine, fine. I'll come." Kissing Rapunzel gently on the cheek, he whispered something in her ear that made her giggle, and then walked over to his fellow Prince, and Odd.
Once the three men had left the room, Anna glanced at her sister's still, unmoving body, and she couldn't help but notice the minuscule snowflakes frozen upon the very tips of her fingers, as if she had freshly created them, and she suddenly felt more hopeful, for some strange reason.
Rapunzel, who had been tending the fire, stood up, and walked softly over to her cousin. "Come on, Anna." She said, smiling comfortingly as she offered her fellow Princess a hand. "Let's go and see if we can find what Sven did with Mia."
Slowly, the Princess of Arendelle nodded, and with a last glance at her sister, she stood up and left the room, constantly reminding herself that Elsa was a survivor. Besides, there was no way her own force could suddenly turn on her and kill her.
She'd be fine.
