A/N: Here's another chapter to my dedicated readers! You're all great and I am such an irregular updater - sorry about that - and to those 'guests', thank you very much for your reviews! :) People who sign in get a personal thank you, as always. You're all brilliant!
In this one, Kagome has a tailed beast, and her beast is Sesshomaru. Instead of using Kikyo or even Inuyasha, I thought, why not make her have a really powerful demon that she doesn't struggle to control and is only allowed control because he lets her because he loves her? Like Kyuubi is a different conscious, so is Sesshomaru.
Warning(s): Unrequited love and a lot of information
Pairing(s): Kagome and Kakashi
36. Eyes
Buried in Konoha's mountainous regions, two ninja remained hidden; hidden from each other and hidden from the Akatsuki, a chase was on.
Shades of green and brown and yellow all blended like paint as footsteps sprinted past in a frantic attempt to escape her captor. Thick sheets of mud were whipped up and splashed against pale, aching legs that just wanted to stop.
Kagome, with her blue-black hair wrapped in a once-tight bun that was now hanging by her neck, was desperate to escape the pursuit in which she was engaged. 'I can't go back. We're a danger.'
Seeing branches poking out at her, trying to break her pace, her small form filled to the brim with power leaped easily and she let out a gasp as she landed on the hard dirt immediately after clearing the jump.
In the corner of her Persian blue eyes, a silver splodge stood out against the blackness of the night and the girl sucked in a breath, almost immediately reaching the pace she had been previously flat, in seconds. He couldn't catch her. 'It's not safe, if someone makes one wrong move, it's all over.'
Once again, their endless game of cat and mouse played out, Kagome always managing to be just that little bit faster. 'Please, don't come out, I beg of you.'
Buried in her own reverie, the gigantic oak-tree, not often found in the Konoha region, blocked her way and she impacted the old wood, splinters flying everywhere as her collision hit with an echoing rumble.
A hollow form of her body greeted her eyes as she achingly pulled her body out of the tree, dropping to the floor as her bones rattled straight after. 'Why? Why am I cursed?'
'You are not cursed, Little One.'
Hearing his voice for the first time in six years, tears and panic began to settle in Kagome's stomach. She couldn't do this, she needed to get away. The pain that wrecked her form stopped that from happening however, and the nineteen-year-old nin bled heaving from multiple-sized puncture wounds that were covering her small frame. Dizziness settled in but she felt herself beginning to heal.
Rolling onto her back, Kagome gazed up at the canopy of trees that hid the stars from her view.
The sound of heavy breaths and hard footsteps greeted her ears about fifty yards off. Five minutes later, the gradual crescendo of footsteps came to a halt.
"Why are you running?"
Slowly, Kagome sat up and with her back turned, she faced the ninja, her 'rescuer'. She didn't want rescuing! She didn't need it!
"You can't be here, Kakashi!"
One grey eyes watched as the girl struggled to make herself stand and all Kakashi felt was this instinctive urge to help her up but he knew she would reject it. He saw the blood, and the thick and thin pieces of wood poking out of her previously flawless flesh. "You need help, Kagome. A doctor, you need to get that wood out or you'll bleed to death!" A little bit of desperation leaked into his voice and Kakashi internally cursed himself. "Come back to Konoha! You have no reason to run, anyway," taking a step forward, the Copy Nin held out his hand, "all of us are confused because of your departure, whatever it is, we'll help you, be sure of that."
The step that he took forward caused Kagome to take a quick step to the side, only for her to hit the tree she had been previously attached to. Internally wincing, she carefully took a step to the left, away from the tree.
"You need to go," looking to the side, Kagome felt true fear for the first time. 'Not Kakashi, he hasn't hurt me.' But she could feel his anger bubbling beneath her skin.
Her beast wasn't necessarily a bad one, but he had a pension for bloodlust. Especially if he was protecting her. If it became known that she caged an eight-tailed beast inside her, not only would Konoha shun her for it, but they'd experiment, and attempt to use her for their own devices, the same way Naruto was currently being controlled.
How the Akatsuki found out about her 'power', she didn't know, but she was pretty sure it had to do with one Tobi, who she had encountered recently.
All of a sudden, Kagome froze. She could feel her wounds beginning to heal. Rapidly. Kagome needed to get away. He would know she was a freak; he would know her secret that she had tried so hard to hide. 'Not Kakashi. Please.'
But she was inadvertently trapped.
Before his eyes, Kagome's serious wounds began to heal. Quickly, Kakashi lifted up his hitai-ate and his Sharingan lazily swirled into action. 'Impossible. Her chakra levels are way below depletion! How is she...healing herself?' With the Sharingan activated, the actions on her healing became a whole lot clearer.
The splinters of all sizes began pushing out of her skin as if drawn to a magnet outside of her skin; pale skin stitched itself back together and formed the once flawless skin that he thought was forever gone. 'What?' It wasn't some sort of taijutsu, or ninjutsu, and it definitely was not genjutsu, he would have seen straight through it, otherwise.
"Wait…" There was something flickering in her chakra flows. The levels began rising as if she was recovering, and it was changing colour!
Dropping to her knees once again, as she desperately tried to tame the beast, Kagome clutched at her head, internally fighting the head-splitting headache she was experiencing. "Please, go…"
Kakashi took a couple of steps forward and felt his eyes widen as he saw claws bury themselves in her hair. "Kagome?"
Instantaneously, Kagome's blood stopped soaking into the dirt. She was covered in it, but it was drying and flaking off her. No new blood could be found.
The young girl's clothing, which consisted of typical ANBU gear, was torn and bloody. "GO!" Her voice was low, and growlish. Beastly.
Kakashi stood his ground and watched in mild fascination but major confusion as Kagome's hair colour began to bleed out. White, wispy strands covered her head and when she turned to look at him, her face were covered in curious markings. "Your eyes…" The jounin gaped behind his mask as he noticed that Kagome's once persian-blue eyes became a stark contrast of the purest gold. Glistening in the moonlight because of her unshed tears, two magenta stripes curved around her cheeks and a crescent moon covered her forehead.
Then, it was Kagome again. 'Normal.' But then, her form flashed, like a dying light, it flickered between one and the other.
In a burst of chakra that was definitely not Kagome's, Kagome stood and held her clawed hands out to her sides.
Kakashi had to jump out of range in order to avoid the splinters that had went flying from the burst of chakra. And there stood Kagome. White hair, gold eyes, a snarling mouth and elf-like ears. It was Kagome and it wasn't. Her chakra was different.
"Hn. Foolish mortal." Kakashi's mismatched orbs widened and he took several steps backward and he realised that this was definitely not his friend. "You dare defy the Little One's wishes?"
For the third time that day, confusion swept over the Copy Nin but he didn't answer. The power of this, this demon caused him to proceed with caution. "You wish to know, do you not? The Little One has wished for me to not harm you, therefore, I shall heed her orders."
"Why?" Kakashi wanted to know a lot of things, but that was what was bugging him the most. He wanted to know why he was allowing her to control him. Clearly, it was a him, if the gradually changing bone structure was any indication.
Kagome had a demon inside her that changed her on the outside if he was on control. It was a lot to take in.
"You must be more precise."
"Why do you let her control you? You are powerful, more powerful than a mere ANBU grunt, why do you not completely take over?" A low chuckle greeted Kakashi's ears and he took another step back; it had a slight darkness to it.
The white-haired demon, who had acquired eight, pristine, white tails flickering behind him, took a long look at Kakashi. "You are right, I am powerful. Very powerful. You are in acquaintance with Kyuubi, I assume?" At Kakashi's nod, the demon continued, "then you will know I am of the same species, and that I am nearly as powerful as him. I allow Kagome control because I have been with her for a very long time. Longer than you humans even know of. Forever, I have been with Kagome. She was my promised mate, but I was not her's. Many lifetimes Kagome has lived. She looked not a day over seventeen, no? Oh, but she is much older than she lets on. Do not let it put you off." The demon strolled over, with an elegance that Kagome had never really possessed, to a fallen tree a couple of yards away.
"Sit. This is a very long tale. And you may call me Sesshomaru, Kakashi of the Hatake clan, son of the honourable Sakumo."
"When Kagome was born, right at the start of existence, I, too, materialised. I was the lord of a previous universe, the realm of the demons. But our planet was attacked, and I escaped here, along with the other beasts who have tails. I was injured, and my energy was severely depleted. I found Kagome, and she was perfect. She was but a baby, but her soul, it was among the most beautiful I had ever seen. I needed to hide, because the beings that destroyed my universe were following, and in a moment of weakness, I thrust myself into Kagome, and we became one being.
"The beings were destroyed, that was what Kagome spent the first thousand years doing; tracking and killing. We have grown on each other, I believe the term is 'unrequited love' however, as she does not return my feelings that I possess. The girl always says that she feels like someone is waiting for her, to be with her, and ever since she has been in Konoha, she has felt closer. I believe this person is you, Hatake. There is no better person than Kagome.
"I allow Kagome control because I love her, very much, and I would never hurt her, even emotionally. I only force myself out when she is in dire need of help, situations in which she cannot escape. Such as this one. The impact alone should have killed her, and her desperation to escape you resulted in me lending her my power so she could escape. But that did not work because of your persistence. I thought that maybe, the person she had been chasing her whole life was finally the one chasing her, and I wanted her to find him."
Kakashi slumped down as he breathed heavily through his mask. Sweat was beading across his body, the cold, dry sweat from his endeavour of catching Kagome was covered by the new layer. 'She is not human. She's a demon, no. She cages a demon, but the demon is her friend?' Looking up, the Sharingan user suddenly had a face-full of Sesshomaru.
"I do not know what is special about you, Hatake, but she is for you, and you are for her."
"What would happen to you?"
"I stay with her out of choice, not force, or persuasion or even need. I like her company and this is the closest way of being with her. I can have my own form if I wish, my own mind. But I would never know her thoughts, then."
Looking around, seeing dawn begin to break, Kakashi held back a yawn of exhaustion, "do you not think it is time to allow her to live then?" The twenty-six-year-old looked at Sesshomaru then, staring into the now familiar golden orbs.
"Yes, I do. There are no longer threats living."
"Can Kagome come back, now?" At this, Sesshomaru nodded.
Unexpectedly, the demon's form then dropped to the ground in a pile of white hair.
Seconds later, and Kakashi was over by Kagome, kneeling at her side and helping her stand as she shook.
The girl avoided his eyes and Kakashi huffed. "Kagome," meeting the persian orbs of the girl who possessed another conscious, he smiled gently behind his mask.
"Sesshomaru?! Where is he? I can't feel him!" 'Where are you? Sesshomaru?!'
"I am here, Little One." The demon he had seen earlier stood just to the left of them and Kakashi let out a sigh; he could feel a headache coming. It was all chaotic.
"You have my blessing, Kagome." Golden eyes met watery blue and an agreement passed through the connection.
"You're finally out. You've never not been there, but now you aren't. I don't know what to say, or feel." Turning to Kakashi, she quickly wrapped her arms around his waist and buried her face in his chest, "I'm not a threat to Konoha, Kakashi. It was Sesshomaru. I never wanted to fully trusted him because I knew he would protect me if someone stepped out of line."
"And I will remain to do so,"
"Yes, but now I can hit you for doing it, or stop you," looking up at the masked man she was currently attached to, Kagome smiled, "so, is the Sharingan partly genetic now?"
Kakashi choked; so many meanings and motives could be behind that question. "Perhaps." Kagome winked.
Well, I don't really know how you found this one, but it just all kinda came out and I am so sorry if it confusing or what-not. This chapter was supposed to be Sasuke but I forgot and accidentally did Kakashi instead, oh well, Kakashi is my favourite Naruto character, :) Please leave your thoughts in the box below! :)
