[ A/N: I appreciate all of the support and comments from my lovely readers. You all kept me dedicated, and that's why I love you all so much. I'm not sure if I should squeeze in the sequel into this one story, Serenity, or make it separate. I haven't set an exact date for the sequel, Duplicity, since I've been on hiatus for so long, along with my job and school. But I will manage to find time, I always have. I have enjoyed writing about Saya and Diva very much. And I hope you've loved them as well.]

Epilogue

"Your girls are amazing, you know? Onigen and Karura are so smart, lovely and bright. They're also very mischievous, kind of like you and your sister. Diva, Saya...your mother would be so proud of you both. I hope that maybe someday I'm able to tell you how she died."

Salazar rose to his full height, straightening his coat.

"I'll be waiting for you girls."

Onigen and Karura chose the moment to tackle their grandfather's legs. The small children held onto his legs, while he laughed, taking them with him.

"Grandpa, are mommy and aunty waking up?" asked Karura.

"No, not now sweetie. But soon."

Onigen pouted.

"You've been saying that since they both fell asleep. I want them to wake up now."

"I know baby girl, but you can't. But I know that mommy is thinking of her two little girls while she's sleeping and she wouldn't want you two pouting around her sleeping. Now, let's go get some ice cream."

Onigen wrinkled her nose.

"I don't like sweets."

"It's okay, we'll find something else."

Nathan and Lukken had traveled to Bordeaux, the birthplace of Saya and Diva. For Nathan, seeing the place again made him want to burn it to the ground. He'd only come to the place for one reason. He had wanted to find the mummified corpse of Onigen and bury it properly, that is, if Joel I hadn't burned it.

When they did find it, Nathan couldn't help but imagine the aged fossil was flesh and blood again, rather than a stiff corpse. He touched the crushed face, all the way down to the cut open abdomen. Joel had buried the mummy not far from the Zoo, where Diva had spent the first fifty years of her existence.

She didn't deserve to die, nor did she deserve to be the victim of the experimentation of the sick curiosity of an old man with infinite wealth; endless spare time.

Nathan had to keep himself together, he wasn't going to cry. He had over one hundred years to mourn for her. His mind took him back to when Onigen had killed herself with his ax, her last words before she brought the blunted object to her head. They all cried for her, she'd not only taken her life but the lives of the two infant daughters the men had claimed as their own.

"Onigen..." Nathan touched the mummy's arm, lingering at the sharp claws.

"Nathan, don't. She wouldn't want us crying over her. We need to bury her peacefully."

"Yes, but...we should have buried her properly all those years ago. If she were alive, where would she want to be buried?"

A long silence hung in the air between them. Nathan touched the necklace around his throat for the first time.

"The last picture... I have an idea of where she should be buried...we won't burn her. No, I think she suffered enough."

Two weeks later, Onigen was buried in the Miyagusuku crypt. No one objected, it was completed understood that the mother needed to be close to the daughters she never had the chance to raise, and to be close the granddaughters she'd never get to see.

Salazar took full time with his grandchildren in Okinawa, helping the Red Shield.

Riku was becoming stronger and stronger by the day, thanks to Lukken. He was also going to school, and helping with the family bar. Onigen and Karura were still a handful, but he was happy.

The surviving chiroptera in the world started blending in with the humans, never revealing who they were, but getting along with humans.

Julia and David became the proud parents of a baby boy. They decided not to get married right away, because of their jobs.

As time passed, more chiroptera were making themselves known to the world. This created a peace Amshel's death.

~Meanwhile~

In the dankness of an unknown crypt, a cocoon was moving like a larval sac. It gave way, the shape of the mystery person crumpling onto the cold tile.

The silhouette didn't suggest if the figure was male or female. The only thing distinguishable about the stranger were their glowing red eyes, and sharp razor teeth so white they seemed to glow in the dark.
