Jane awoke with a start clutching for silent breath. The numb silence contrasted scarily with the nightmare she had just encountered. The darkness in her room felt like it was choking her and she immediately fumbled around in the dark and turned her bedside lamp on. She relaxed somewhat taking comfort in lilac room that seemed a world away from the forest she thought she had just been standing in. She needed water and she considered calling Elsie but decided against it as the elf had probably done more than enough work already today. Her feet pattered against the marble staircase, echoing in the large house as she made her way down to the large kitchen. She pushed open the heavy door into the dimly lit kitchen where Elsie was scrubbing the large wooden table that was centred in the middle of the kitchen. Jane's presence made Elsie startle "Oh Miss Malfoy, Elsie was not expecting anyone to be awake at such a time." She said as Jane sat down "I had a nightmare,"

"Elsie does not like nightmares, nightmares are terrifying , oh poor Miss Malfoy, Elsie knows how Miss Malfoy feels, Elsie must get something to make Miss Malfoy feel better" She said hurriedly under her breath and began hunting around the kitchen. Jane pulled her legs up to her chest as she watched the sweet elf. Elsie placed a hot chocolate and a brownie in front of Jane "Chocolate always makes Elsie feel better."

"Thank you Elsie and please stop calling me Miss Malfoy, Jane will do" she said as she took a bite out of the delicious brownie. "Yes Miss Malfoy, oh no sorry Jane." The two stayed in comfortable silence after that, Jane happy to have some company as she recovered from her nightmare.

Jane was woken up a few hours later by Elsie "Miss Malfoy I mean Jane Mr Malfoy wishes to speak with you in his office." Jane groaned but smiled at Elsie and thanked her. An hour later she made her way dressed to her father's office, she knocked on the door and was told to come in. "What time do you call this? Honestly that house elf is useless." Lucius said angrily, Jane rolled her eyes and said "Elsie told me an hour ago, I was just getting dressed."

"And it takes you an hour to get dressed ?" He said annoyed,

"No I just thought I'd make you wait a bit longer" she said with a smirk as she went to sit down on the sofa but her father stopped her "You don't have any time to sit down, have you forgotten what day it is?"

"Obviously" she said inspecting her fingernails, not having a care in the world at what he was saying. "It is Potter's hearing." Jane leapt out of the sofa at this and walked to the door before turning to her father and said "Well what are you waiting for?"

It was the first time Jane had been to the Ministry, she stared around in awe, at the peacock blue ceiling and the wizards and witches that exited the fireplaces. Her father strutted ahead of her oblivious to beauty of the building they were walking through. Jane quickened her pace up, she did not want to be near her father but she did not like the idea of getting lost in the crowd of witches and wizards. Ahead of her, her father was waiting for her by a beautiful gold fountain. Jane gazed up at it and then looked down at the sign about the proceeds going to St Mungo's she turned to her father "Do you have any galleons?" He looked down at her and then to the sign "No Jane Malfoys don't give to charities."

"But this is for St Mungo's" she said desperately, "If hadn't been for them I probably wouldn't be here" she said remembering the fatal accident caused by the man standing next to her. He seemed to be thinking the same thing as he thrust his hand into his cloak pocket and begrudgingly handed out two silver sickles. Jane rolled her eyes but took them and dropped them into the fountain, she watched the splash and then their fast descent and the heavy drop as they thudded to the bottom, with no chance of getting back up again unless they were picked up by a helping hand. "Now come on we might have the chance to get into the court room." Jane was about to say that the courts weren't open to the public for them to come and go as they please but she bit her tongue as she did not want to aggravate her father further as they reached the lift. The small number of people who were waiting almost parted like the red sea when the two Malfoys approached, allowing them to get their own lift. Jane stared horrified about the reputation and power their family had. The two stood silently until the lift came to a halt and a woman's voice said "Department of Mysteries", they left the lift and Jane followed her father down the dark corridor to a large door "What's in there?" she asked interested

"Nothing for you to worry about yet" he said as a string of wizards and witches passed them in plum coloured robes. "Ah they've finished, Fudge should be out in a minute" Lucius looking over the heads of the witches and wizards "Why do you need to speak to him?" Jane asked suspiciously

"It is not what I have to say to him more what I need to give to him and the Ministry."

"You mean our money" Jane said but she got no answer out of him as walking towards them was the face of the Minister who Jane hated for not believing her boyfriend's killer had returned and behind him a short woman with a large face and a silly little bow on the top of her head, Jane inwardly sighed and said to herself 'Does this woman know nothing, everyone knows you never put a bow on top of your head you put it in your hair, stupid woman!'. The two smiled at them "Lucius always a pleasure to see you" Fudge said to him and shook his hand and Lucius said "Likewise, you remember my daughter Jane" he indicated to Jane who gave him an insincere smile that he took as genuine. "And Dolores it is equally nice to see you today" Lucius said shaking hands with the woman with a bad bow " This is my daughter Jane, Jane Dolores Umbridge" he said to both of them. "Ah pleasure to meet you young Miss Malfoy." Jane felt she could not say the same.

"So the result of this trial?" Lucius asked the two of them. "Unfortunately it is not the result we had hoped for" Fudge said with a disappointing look. Jane was so happy she felt like jumping up and down screaming but then remembered where she was and tried to hide her smile. She was going to stay in Gryffindor. "Yes I am thoroughly disappointed, if only Dumbledore had not graced us with his presence I daresay Potter would not be going back to school this year" Umbridge said bitterly "Now I really must go if you'll excuse me" Umbridge said and then gave goodbyes and made her way up to the lift. The minister proceeded to tell her father about the trial but Jane only half listened, she was so happy that she did not have to go and join the slytherins. Then in the distance she heard someone's conversation "But it's an expression of something much deeper and nastier" she turned to the door and coming up the stairs she saw a man with red hair the exact shade as Ginny's and then a boy with fabulous green eyes and black hair that was sticking up in all directions "Harry!" Jane called in delight and ran over to him and hugged him tightly, she felt him hug her back and she smiled as she tucked her head into his neck, she had really missed him. They let go of each other and Jane smiled at him "Congratulations"

"Thanks" he said quietly "How are you ?" Her eyes dropped, as did her smile "Sorry, stupid question" he said nervously running his hand through his messy hair. Jane looked up at him and forced a weak smile and said "No its okay and I'm okay, not fine but I'm okay" he just returned her weak smile. Both of them remembering the reason why Jane felt like that way. "How are you? I'm mean you know you were the one who you know last saw him" she hesitantly asked. "I'm fine, probably feeling better than you are."

"Well, well, well.. Patronus Potter" Jane heard the voice from her father further down the corridor as the three of them walked towards Lucius and the minister. Jane could see Harry getting angrier as her father continued on his annoying speech "The minister was just telling me about your lucky escape Potter." Jane rolled her eyes at his words. "Quite astonishing the way you continue to wriggle out of very tight holes…snakelike in fact" he continued, his eyes darting between Jane and Harry. Jane saw out of the corner of her eye the red headed man place a hand on Harry's shoulder while she kept her eyes on Harry and her father. "Yeah I'm good at escaping" Harry said in retaliation and Jane couldn't help but smirk. "And Mr Weasley too! What are you doing down here Arthur?" Her father said catching Jane's smirk. Jane then understood this was Ginny's dad. "I work here" Mr Weasley replied, then it all made sense Jane remembered that Ginny had once said that her father worked for the ministry of magic 'think sometimes Jane' She thought to herself.

"What are you doing here anyway?" She heard Harry say rather rudely to her father. "I don't think matters between myself and the minister are any concerns of yours, Potter" her father replied "Really, just because you are Dumbledore's favourite boy , you must not expect the same indulgence from the rest of us .. Shall we go up to your office, then, minister. Come along Jane." She turned to Harry and gave him a quick hug before saying "It was really nice seeing you Harry, say hi to Ginny and the others will you for me and I'll you at school" she gave Mr Weasley a quick smile and skipped down the corridor shouting over her shoulder in parseltongue "And try to stay out of trouble!"

She silently followed her father and the minister up to his office, just before her father went in he told her to wait for him outside. She did so extremely bored. The minister's office was in a circle of offices with wooden doors, on the right of his was Dolores Umbridge and to his left Percy Weasley's. In front of the minister's office was a desk with a witch who Jane guessed could only be nineteen or twenty, she had thick dark brown hair and brilliant green eyes, she smiled at Jane before returning to the parchment on her desk. Down the corridor from the circle of offices Jane saw a few offices and one of them caught her eye. On the wooden door as bold as brass stood the name 'Blaise Hunter' Jane did a double take. Blaise wasn't a very common name and she didn't know whether Blaise had been named after his father and after thinking about it for a few minutes it would seem silly for Carmela to have named her only son after a man who had been so cruel to her. And yet she wondered, could it be? The door she was staring at was suddenly pulled open and a tall dark skinned man walked from it, he walked straight past her and up to the desk with the pretty girl sat behind it. "Well good morning Miss Audrey and how are you today?" he said with an arrogant smile. The girl looked up at him with an annoyed face but hid it behind a fake smile "Very well Mr Hunter and yourself?"

"Excellent, is the minister free at the moment?" he asked her again with that smile. "No sorry he's in a meeting at the moment. If you come back in an hour I'm sure he'll be available" Audrey said again with that the fake smile, Jane smirked at this as Mr Hunter said "Thank you very much Audrey" and walked towards his office, he turned his head and gave Jane a smile and that's when she saw them. Those beautiful brown eyes she always found comfort in. This man surely could not be Blaise's father ? He had such an arrogant walk and he talked and smiled arrogantly, but those eyes. Those were the eyes of someone she had known for a long time, those were the eyes of her best friend, those were the eyes of someone she loved.

When they arrived home Jane was still thinking about Blaise and his possible father, what did she do? Did she tell him that she saw someone who had the same name has him and who looked a bit like him. She could however explain the eyes, but then would be that be telling him that she was deeply in love with him. 'Well no' she thought to herself as she walked into her bedroom and collapsed onto her bed 'because I could just explain that they looked exactly like his and that she would recognise her best friend's eyes anywhere, yes that's what I'll tell him" but then she stopped herself 'What use will it be telling Blaise? Surely he already knows who his father is?' Her thoughts were interrupted by a sharp tapping on her window, she turned to see Claudia with a letter in her beak. She opened the window and the owl flew in and landed on her desk. Jane stroked the owl's feathers for a minute before taking the letter out of her beak. She saw Ginny's familiar hand writing on the front and smiled to herself she had missed her best friend's words of comfort. She tore open the letter and read :

Dear Jane

You have nothing to apologise for you're my best friend I'm always going to support you whatever happens, I hope you are feeling better than you did when we left Hogwarts. Harry said he saw you today and that he thought you definitely looked better than before which I hope means that you're trying to move on because that's what he would want. My holiday has been pretty good so far when you take into account that you know who is back and I have something very interesting to tell you when we get back !

Love Ginny

Jane smiled at the letter before placing it on her desk. She was trying to move on but the daily nightmares made it practically impossible. Every time she went to bed she was constantly reminded of Cedric and the ongoing cycle of trying not to believe that he was actually gone, the feelings of anger, the feelings of deep, deep depression continued. She was forever in a state of feeling okay but never fine at all.
