Chapter 37: Preface to Happiness
Chapter Summary: She never thought that there was still a chance for her to feel it and she would only feel it if…
Without the use of anything or something to hold on to, Sakuno was able to balance herself without tripping. Her rehabilitation was getting the best of her and her will to walk again was pretty strong. Her therapist said that she could walk casually and normally in no time and she could even play tennis again after two weeks. She was happy because of that. Her smile was slowly bringing to her face.
And he didn't escape seeing that smile from her. Just like her, he also knew why she was smiling like that. Closing his eyes in the process, he walked closer to her and offered her his hand. Sakuno looked at her and blinked twice. Before she misunderstood his action, he shared his thoughts to her;
"Good job."
She gave him a smile after he said that. She didn't say a word but she accepted his hand. They walked to the sofa together and joined the others who were having a good time.
Sumire and his parents were talking to each other. Nanjiroh and Rinko went home when they heard the news that their son was getting married. It was Sakuno's first time meeting his parents after all. He was not nervous but rather worried especially to his father. He didn't want her to get close to him as possible as she could.
He would just piss him to no end.
They talked about the preparation for the wedding, from the church's location to the reception venue. They preferred western style and the Ryuzakis wouldn't mind having that. They asked Fuji Syuusuke to come over and wished him to be their photographer and he willingly accepted the offer. It was his business anyway and taking photos of his kouhai's wedding was a total privilege for him. Ryoma was secretly relieved that he was not thinking something sadistic… or so he thought.
He would just think that the wedding must happen at all cost.
One Day:
"Echizen Ryoma desu," He said bowing in front of the grave of her foster parents. His fiancée had invited him to visit her parents that day, both her real and the foster. They first visited her real parents half an hour ago and now they were in front of the people who took care of her before they died for her sake. He bent back not tearing his gaze away from the tomb and just like what he said to her real parents a while ago, he told them the same thing, "and I am marrying your daughter."
Sakuno was just staring at him. Her blush never left her face. She was surprised when he first said those words to her real parents but the impact was still the same when he repeated the words to her foster parents this time. She couldn't help but smile at his sincerity. Ryoma was still talking to her parents but she couldn't understand him anymore. She was overfilled with positive emotions at that very moment and she was just happy staring at her fiancé talking to her parents like that.
Night:
"You could give one to him."
From the invitation card, she looked at her fiancé who was just beside her. She was just looking at him and didn't know what to say.
"Give one to your step-brother." He said clarifying what he said.
She held her breath as she gripped the card from her hand. Ryoma wanted her to give an invitation to Kaito.
…Their nuptial invitation card.
It wasn't really the problem of giving him the card. In fact, she wanted him to come. But there was something that worried her.
She hadn't seen her step-brother since the last time they talked at the hospital.
She didn't know how to react. She had been cruel to her step-brother. She didn't know how to face him as they hadn't contacted each other for four months. She was the one who requested it to him anyway. But things had changed since Ryoma returned and convinced her to be with him. She realized it.
She was not ready to face Kaito yet.
"It's okay."
She flinched when Ryoma placed his hand to her hand which was the invitation card was residing.
"We're not doing this on purpose if you are worried about it."
"Ryoma-kun…"
"If you are still worried, I'll go with you then."
His eyes were still staring straight to her eyes telling her that everything would be alright. She blinked twice before she gave him a weak smile, "O-okay then…"
Ryoma saw her smile and she wasn't aware about his expression. She only looked at him when Ryoma gently placed a hand to her neck and pulled her to a kiss. She gasped and her heart skipped a beat when he did that. Her eyes softened as she recovered from the shock. Ryoma still knew how to handle things between them. He was gentle and she knew that he was careful not to hurt her.
He broke the kiss after and just stared at her. Her lips were slight opened as her eyes were trembling. Something inside her was trying to surface but she couldn't name it. She looked down.
"You know… I still couldn't understand you."
"What do you mean?"
"Of all the girls who admire you, who are clean, innocent and pure," She said as she gripped her hands, she let go of the invitation card a long time ago, "W-why choose me?"
"What?"
"I am the stupidest person that you've met. Actually, you could describe all the negative adjectives there are to me. I am just the person that you will be pissed with," She said still not looking at him, "I am weak and always will."
"…"
"Y-you are great, popular and everyone admires you," She began fidgeting with her fingers that she didn't know, "I think I am not good enough to be with you."
"…"
"People would only think badly of you if they heard the news about me being with you."
"…"
"To tell you the truth… I'm still not confident at this… m-marriage."
"…"
"I don't think I… deserve your attention at all."
"…"
"…"
"You still have lots more to work on."
"E-eh?"
"I don't care what they say. They are not the one that I am going to marry anyway."
"But I don't—"
"I am not looking for a perfect wife," He said looking at her, "I only want Sakuno and nothing else."
"Ryoma-kun…"
"Stop discriminating yourself," He said touching her cheek once again, "You may be weak but you bring the courage in you when you have to. That makes you unique for me."
She bit her lower lip this time.
"I am pretty lucky that you are not one of those fan girls who would scream to my ears," He smirked this time, "Thank you not being one."
"A-are you sure?"
To her surprise, Ryoma raised a hand and flicked her forehead really hard. Sakuno shrieked due to pain. She rubbed it as she looked at him.
"Will you stop doubting yourself? You said that you would do anything."
"I—I knew what I said—"
"Then you better follow that and stay with me."
Sakuno was really shocked when he said that. Ever since that time, she had begun doubting herself to anyone. She had lost confidence to herself. Ryoma was just insisting himself to her and bring her old self back. She couldn't think straight especially when Ryoma gave her a comforting hug.
"To me…" He said brushing her hair at that moment, "You were pure until I first claimed you that night," He continued holding her to her waist making her gasp, "I respect you to the fullest. You are Sakuno to me after all."
She couldn't help but cry at that moment. She placed her cheek to his shoulder as she gripped his shirt really hard. Ryoma was sincere to marry her and she wouldn't have doubted that. She would trust him. She would trust him again.
…For she loved Ryoma a lot.
Next Day, Rhapsody Theater:
They just finished practicing for tonight's recital. Fuji had to be removed for he was invited for a tennis tournament that day but he was there to support his team. His girlfriend was going to sing once again. Before, she didn't have the confidence to sing in front of the stage but because of the Fuji brothers and some motivation Sakuno gave her before, she was able to do it. He felt proud of her girlfriend. Although, something was missing between them and he would fill that out.
xxx
"Riku-san." He called his girlfriend as he saw her exiting the theater.
"F-Fuji-kun!" Shock was registered to her face when she saw him there, "Aren't you supposed to compete now?"
Fuji shrugged as he approached her, "My match will be an hour later so I'll have a minute to spend time with you."
"B-but the distance—"
"It's okay," He cut her, "I can get to the city center within thirty minutes," He said grabbing her hand in the process, "Care to warm up with me?"
Riku gave him an odd look but nodded afterwards.
They went to a tennis court and just like what he said; they would have a little warm up. Fuji was already at the other side of the court, "Ne Riku, let's have a different deal today."
"A different deal?"
Fuji nodded before he showed his three fingers to her, "Whoever wins today will have the loser grant three wishes of the winner today, okay."
Not really sure what he meant but she silently nodded. Fuji gave her a smile. Perfect. He thought as everything was according to his plan.
xxx
She didn't know why she did agree to his deal. All she knew that the game was over. She should've thought that she would never win against him. Why did she agree in the first place? Now she put herself in an awkward position.
"I win, Riku."
She looked at the tensai who was smiling at her. Then he walked closer to her. She secretly panicked when he was approaching her, "W-what's your first wish then?"
Fuji was smiling as he opened his cerulean eyes, "I want you to read this." He ordered as he showed her his cell phone. Riku bent a little and read the word.
"S-Syuusuke…" She uttered as she read that word, "Syuusuke…" She repeated once again. Her eyes widened when she realized what he was trying her to say. She immediately covered her mouth as she looked at him.
"That's my first wish, Riku," He said looking at her widened eyes, "Call me Syuusuke from now on."
Her face was really red. Fuji had tried to ask her to call him by his first name but being the shy girl, she still felt awkward calling him that. Even though, they were going out for four months, she was able to call him Syuusuke twice but not permanently. She also realized the way Fuji called her. Looking down, she bit her lower lip as she replied, "O-okay… Syuusuke-kun."
That was the first wish. Of course the second would come after. Tilting her chin up to face him, Fuji surprised her by placing a kiss to her lips.
"My second wish is," He said grabbing her to her waist drawing her closer to him, "I want to make you mine."
"W-what?!" She was awfully shocked when he said that, "B-but—"
"Don't you trust me?"
"I… I trust you…"
"I will never hurt you, Riku. I'll take care of you instead."
She didn't know what to say to him. There were times that they became intimate but Riku would always stop him before he could go to the next level. But he was asking for it. She loved Fuji and he loved her. She thought that it would be alright although she had to gather the strength to finally submit herself to him. Blushing in the process, she finally nodded at him.
Fuji then let go of her, satisfied at her answer, "That's good then, well, I am going now. See you."
Riku was really shocked. She agreed to him. She agreed that they would…
Thinking that made her face blush even more. Then, she realized something.
"S-Syuusuke-kun!"
Fuji looked at her and showed her a genuine smile. She knew that he liked the way she called him. Blinking twice, she asked her thoughts, "W-what's your third wish then?"
The tensai's smile went back into something sadistic and she never wanted to see that from him. But it was too late now, "Saa… that will be later. When I win the match tonight, you prepare yourself for me."
Her eyes widened for the umpteenth time and her face blushed for non-countable times.
"See you later, Riku." With that, he left the surprised girlfriend not knowing the smile that he had. Only he could read his mind at that very moment.
Mission Accomplished.
Few Days Later:
He never expected her to see at Yosouku Gakuen that morning. His team was surprised as well. It had been four months since the last time they saw her. He saw her with him trailing behind her. Her expression was hesitating at something. But he knew that something was about to happen that very day.
He found her and he made her appear once again. He kept his word of letting her wait. And somehow, she was different in his eyes.
The others were also looking at tensed aura between then. The Vice Captain of the team knew what to do so he whispered something to him. He sort of understood what he was trying to say. Getting the idea, he closed his eyes and faced his team;
"Continue practicing, have a practice rally with someone," He said looking at his Vice Captain, "You take charge for a while."
He just looked at him and then he looked at her and then to him, "Let's talk somewhere else." He curtly said and leaded the way.
Later on:
They decided to go to the park. The amber eyes gave them enough privacy so that they could talk privately. They went to the deeper part side of the park. That was the time he clearly stared at her.
She was just looking down; her hair was tied in two braided-pigtails. She was wearing the Seigaku uniform indicating that they went straight to Yosouku after their class.
…Indicating that she was finally going there once again.
…Indicating that she was slowly regaining what she lost.
It was all thanks to the guy who had amber eyes.
His eyes landed to her left hand that was resting in front of her chest. Her left hand was holding a white envelope but that wasn't the reason that caught his attention.
The silver band that was encircling her ring finger caught his eyes.
He looked away as he decided to speak, "So… you finally decided to tie the knot."
"Ah… I…"
"Best wishes then."
"I… I want to…"
He looked back at her as she tried to say her words. She was trembling as her cheek was a little red. Her eyes were looking elsewhere but him. He waited until she could completely say her words;
"I want you to… to come," She took a step forward and showed him the envelope, "I want you to be there."
Kaito looked at her hand where the envelope was residing. Her hand was trembling. He knew how much she gathered that effort to come and give the invitation to him. He closed his eyes and talked;
"I guess this is the punishment for everything that I've done to you."
The girl looked at him, probably was surprised at what he said. He slowly reached for the envelope and continued;
"I guess… I'll come," He was staring at the envelope but he knew that she couldn't read his expression at that moment. He didn't want her to know, "…to see and realize the fact that you are slowly drifting far away from me."
"N-no… that's not true…"
"All this time… I've been sending you away. And because I kept doing that, someone had finally stolen you away from me," He said still looking at the envelope, "Because I was not true to my own feelings until now."
"W-what are you saying? N-no one did—"
"I knew that you would say that," He said cutting her and deciding to look at her this time, "You're too kind for your own good. He's pretty lucky to have you after all."
He saw her eyes became wide when he said that. He then looked at the other tennis prodigy who was not far from them. He was not looking at them but he knew that he was aware at what they were talking about. His eyes suddenly softened as he continued talking;
"I missed the chance of being your man when I had it before. I lost it from him." He was busy thinking about his worries that she would be leaving him for him soon when the girl surprised her by touching the hand where the envelope was.
"Sakuno…"
The girl didn't say anything but her eyes were telling her how hurt she was. How hard it was for her to make that decision. How sorry she was for letting him feel like that.
Her eyes were telling him everything.
His other hand clenched into a tight fist before he surprised the girl with a sudden hug. Even it was too late, he would never lie to himself. Not anymore. Even though it was too late, he would still try it. Tightening the hug, he nuzzled his cheek to her neck and whispered;
"Everything is too late now but let me still say two things…" He whispered still not moving from their position, "…even though it's not enough… let me apologize to you... at everything…"
Sakuno gasped when he said that though, she didn't say anything.
"I am sorry… truly I am. Sorry for everything," He said trying not to tremble at all cost, "I am really sorry. They were unforgivable but… I am sorry."
The girl was still speechless but he knew that she was listening so he continued;
"And even it is useless now, let me say this…" He said tightening his hug hoping that his feelings could reach her, "I… love you."
He felt her flinch when he said that. The girl was indeed shocked when he said his confession to her. This time, there were no pranks, jokes or lies when he said that. He was in love with her… It was true when he told her that he had been loving her all the time. He was just not honest with his feelings that he hurt her even doing the unthinkable things. Just when he decided to be honest with her, things were not the way he supposed to expect.
Sakuno was going away… away from his reach.
If it was okay for him to send her away before, it was his greatest fear now. He didn't want her to leave him and thinking about her slowly distancing away from him made his fear to intensify to the fullest. He feared that day… that date that was written at the invitation card that he wasn't revealed yet to his delicate eyes.
That date which could totally separate her away from him.
"I love you… I love you so much," He firmly and seriously said to her ear still hugging her tightly in the process, "I love you… I love you."
He kept telling how much he loved the girl but the girl wasn't doing anything to him. He knew that it was useless even though she just let him hug her.
"K-Kaito…" She whispered as she placed a hand to his shoulder and he perfectly heard her. It felt so good to hear his name that was coming from her lips. He was happy for an unknown reason.
"Kaito… nii-san…"
His eyes widened when she called him like that. He knew from that point on. It was over… now that she called him that way.
They had no chance at all.
What was he hoping for anyway?
He let out an expression that he could only know for himself. He was hurt but he didn't show her that. He tightened his hug even more making sure that she was there, trapping her, hoping that she would never disappear from his arms.
It was his total resentment.
She was there before where he could reach her. She even prepared herself for him. But when he was ready to take her, she wasn't available anymore. She was gone within his reach.
"Arigatou for everything…" The fragile girl whispered to his ear, "I just want you to know… I owe you… my second life."
His eyes trembled this time. He brushed her hair as he tightened his hug to her waist, "Sakuno… my little Sakuno…" He wished that they could go back to the days where he used to call her that, "My dear little Sakuno."
Sakuno giggled a little and he heard that, "A-and I am always will, Kaito-nii-san…"
He sighed for relief. He thought that he was satisfied with that get up. It was enough for him that Sakuno was not completely gone in his life. It was enough for him.
"Ne…"
Both of them looked at the person who talked last. Ryoma was just a few meters away from them; his hat was covering his eyes. Sakuno was the one to break the hug and looked away. Kaito looked at him this time and never hesitated to verbalize his thoughts;
"Don't you dare hurt her…"
"That never crossed my mind." He replied still not looking at them.
"Take good care of my little sister for me."
Ryoma looked at him this time giving him a serious look. He saw him look at his sister for a few seconds before he looked back at him, giving the answer that he expected of him, "Aa…"
Silence erupted between them. But Ryoma cut it when he approached them and grabbed Sakuno's hand.
"We'll be going then."
He just let him take Sakuno away from him. The girl looked at him and examined her expression. She was blushing and good thing that she was looking at him. She was happy as he read her. That was the last time he saw her face.
…Before he decided to let her go.
Minutes later, he had been staring at the path where the couple went. He leaned on a steel bar that was protecting his balance. He didn't know how he managed to keep up until now but now he couldn't. Good thing that Sakuno wasn't there anymore and the rain wasn't there to help him hide the tears that started to fall from his eyes.
A single tear changed all the barriers that he hid all this time. Good thing he was looking down so that no one could see him crying there. It would be embarrassing for him even for the people who would pass near him.
"Here…"
…Or not.
He looked at the hand that was being offered in front of him. The hand had a handkerchief on it. He then looked at the owner of the hand. His eyes still had some teardrops on it but he ignored it, as long as they wouldn't fall yet. He got to stare at the good person in front of him.
It was actually a girl.
A girl was wearing a blue and white jersey and skirt. She was wearing their school's tennis club jersey. He had the chance to stare at the girl's face. And he could recognize her.
"You are…" He said as his eyes widened. She was the girl that told them about the danger Sakuno had and saved her from the clutches of the pervert the last time. If it wasn't for her, Sakuno would be picked up in a morgue or some place that was worse than that.
The girl placed the handkerchief to his hand and talked, "Accept it as I accept everything," The girl looked away, "I too once fell in love with him but he loves her."
"…"
"Let's just be happy for them."
His eyes widened when she said that. They never talked before not even once. They never met until that very day and with just few words that she said to him, why was he feeling a little lighter than before? He looked down as he gripped the handkerchief that she gave. The girl thought that he needed some time alone so she started to move;
"Matte," He said grabbing her hand with his other hand, "Can you… lend me your shoulder for a while?"
He didn't know the girl's reaction for his was unreadable at that moment. The girl didn't say anything but he knew that it was fine for her. She didn't move from her position instead she walked a little closer to him so that he could lean his head to her shoulder. He felt relieved as she allowed him to do that. He felt at ease.
"Thank you," He said as he let another tear fall from his eyes. He wouldn't mind expressing his feelings for a while. It was her who would only see his state like that. He wouldn't mind at all, "Thank you…"
Seigaku:
She was worried for some reason. Ever since he dragged her from the park all the way to Seigaku, Ryoma never said anything to her. His countenance was serious and she could feel the tight grip that he giving to her hand.
Ryoma was really impatient to go home and she wondered about that, with worries included. She wanted to ask him but she knew that he would never answer her.
She thought that she might have done something wrong again and that made her worry to the fullest.
They reached his home without her noticing it. He continued dragging her to her room and this time, she started to panic;
"R-Ryoma-kun?" She called but he ignored her, "W-wha—" She was definitely surprised when he immediately pushed her to bed when they reached her room. He immediately went on top of her pinning her wrists beside her, shocking her in the process, "M-matte—"
Her eyes widened when the guy assaulted her with his kiss. She was surprised when he did that. Ryoma forced himself to enter his tongue inside her. He did all the things to grant him her permission. Even she didn't grant him, he knew how after all. He used his knee and inserted it between her thighs making her gasp in the process.
She just closed her eyes when he finally explored her mouth. Ryoma deepened the kiss after that. He was being passionate at that very moment. While he was being passionate, he lifted both of her hands and joined them together with his hand while his other hand went down and searched for her thigh. She was really panicking at that moment.
"R-Ryoma-kun!" She was able to call out to him when his lips went down to her neck, "W-what are you doing?"
Ryoma wasn't listening to her as he continued kissing her neck.
"S-Stop! W-What's happening to you?" She closed her eyes when she felt his hand between her thighs, "R-Ryoma-kun…" She was not panicking now as she was trembling. She was scared.
…Scared of him.
Ryoma abruptly stopped when he tasted something salty when he kissed her cheek. He stared at her and was really shocked when he saw her state. She couldn't stop crying at that moment. Her eyes were still closed but her tears were freely falling down her cheek.
He felt guilty when he did those to her. He kept telling her that he wouldn't hurt her but what he was doing right now was a total contrast at what he had promised her. He immediately let go of her hands and brought them back to her sides before he slowly hugged her;
"I am sorry… I am very sorry," He said whispering to her ear, "I didn't mean to startle you."
She trembled from his hug before she decided to speak, "D-did I do something wrong?"
Ryoma reacted a little.
"I… I am sorry if I did. J-just tell me what it is and… I-I'll make it up to you…"
Ryoma sighed when she said that. She thought that she had done something wrong to him. She was really incredible. He nuzzled to her neck before he decided to reply, "No, it isn't you… it's me."
Sakuno opened her eyes but she didn't say a word. He distanced himself from her neck and leaned his forehead to hers;
"I can't help but feel possessive over you. I want you all to myself and I just realized that."
"Ryoma-kun…"
"When I saw him hugging you like that, I thought that he was taking you away," He said his face was unreadable to her, "I heard what you said to him and the way he called you. That guy must have loved you a lot."
Sakuno didn't say anything. Ryoma was being out of character. He was telling his feelings to her.
"I just can't stop being jealous when you're with him."
Her eyes widened when he said that. Ryoma was jealous? For real? She bit her lower lip as she raised a hand and touched his cheek.
"You…" She started getting a clear view of his face, "…don't have to be jealous of him."
His amber eyes were naturally staring right to her eyes. She knew they were filled with love that he had for her.
"I'm… already yours."
Ryoma cupped her cheek as well, "Sakuno…" He slowly leaned down to give her a chaste kiss this time, telling her that everything would be fine, "Promise me one thing…"
She looked at his eyes which were seriously looking back at her.
"No matter how bad the situation will be… d-don't ever think about dying." He stuttered a little.
Her eyes widened when he said that. She thought that he was done but she was wrong about it when he continued;
"Don't give up on living… no matter what. Live your life for me and I'll take care of you," He said caressing her cheek, "Promise me that you'll live your life to the fullest."
She let some teardrops to her eyes before she responded to his words, "I… I promise," She slowly reached for his neck and comfortably hugged him, "I… I'll cherish my life… no matter what… because…"
Ryoma hugged her back when he felt her tremble. He tightened the contact between them. She wasn't going to regret her decision. She was willing to welcome it;
"…Because I have you to live with it."
Done! How was this chapter? So everything was going smooth now. There is only one missing left, could you guess what it is? Tee hee hee… the next chapter will be the final one… Whew… A total of 38 chapters, never imagined that it would reach that far.
Well, review please. Tell me your thoughts… Domo…
Final Chapter: Fantasizing Reality no more
This is the preview to my upcoming fic. I hope you like it… domo… ^_^
Ryoma walked closer to her and suddenly jerked his hand in front of her, "Here."
She blinked her eyes twice as she stared at his hand, "W-what is it?"
"Let out your hand." He ordered.
She stared back at him and gave him a curious look. Not knowing his intentions, she still raised her hand just like what he told her. Just as she lifted her hand, the boy dropped something to her palm that he had been holding. She was taken by surprise as she immediately closed it.
"It's my token of gratitude."
"E-eh?"
xxx
It was then that Sakuno noticed something. W-why do I feel… chill at the moment? She looked around as if she was sensing something. Tomoka noticed her;
"What's wrong?"
"S-something's… I—I don't know but," She said as she continued looking nowhere, "I feel nervous at something."
"Huh?" Tomoka tilted her head not getting what she was saying.
"I am sorry but I need to go somewhere." With that she started to run.
"S-Sakuno!" She called out to her but she was already far away, "What's happening to her?"
Ryoma watched her run away from the location and went out of the court. He was wondering about the girl's odd behavior although he didn't pay that much attention to her… before.
xxx
"You, who are you?"
She looked at the boy who was kneeling in front of her. His face was cold… colder than Ryoma. He was scary as she thought. She couldn't find her voice at that time.
"Give those back." The boy stood up catching his breath this time.
She was speechless as she was staring at the boy in front of her.
Okay. That was all for a while. I thought of those three scenes randomly, I hope it could make a better fic though… Wish me luck inserting the preview scenes above… sigh… I like to inform that this fic will be crossover-ing another anime. Can you guess the other anime? Thank you very much… ^_^
