Day Thirty Five (35)

KABOOM!

Cannon fire woke me up from my sleep.

Were we on a pirate ship or something?

I opened my eyes to find out that I was not on a pirate ship but safe and sound in my cabin.

I was used to being awakened by helicopters, airplanes and megaphones, but cannons?

"Aargh mateys! Meet me at the amphitheater in five minutes and I'll tell you about today's challenge!" Speaking of megaphones…

I got out of bed, brushed my teeth and went to the amphitheater. No time for breakfast, though I'm sure I wouldn't eat it anyway.

Chris and Chef were both wearing pirate hats and Chris had a fake parrot on his shoulder.

I wonder what the theme for this challenge is.

There was a white blanket covering something on the stage.

We were all trying to suppress our laughter.

Geoff and Bridgette were sitting together.

"Hey Noah! Over here!" Izzy called.

I frantically looked around for another place to sit. They were all occupied.

I sighed and sat next to Izzy.

"Well my little scallywags." Chris said. "Have we got an adventure in store for ye." He was speaking in pirate lingo.

His fake parrot fell over and Chris readjusted it.

"What's under the sheet?" Geoff asked.

"All in good time laddie. Who here has a hankering for a good old fashion treasure hunt?"

"Okay, I know you're trying, but can you please talk in your normal voice?" I asked him.

"No." He said before continuing. "Now this treasure hunt's got a twist mateys! What you're looking for isn't hidden and it isn't treasure!"

"If there's no treasure, then what's with the eye-patch and the plastic parrot?" Duncan grimly asked.

"Arrgh! Shiver me timbers! Good question me boy!" Chris Said, throwing the parrot off of his shoulder.

"You're looking for keys to a treasure chest!"

Chef removed the white sheet to reveal chests. Not the human kind, but wooden chests.

"Inside each of these chests is a treasure that will pamper you landlubbers. And one of these chests will even give you invincibility!" He announced.

"Now come around and pull a clue out of this bucket, or you'll have to walk the plank."

Chef held out a bucket with some wooden blocks. We each grabbed a block.

All of the blocks had pictures on them. They were supposed to be clues as to where our keys were hidden.

Of course, Chris then outright told us all where our keys were, defeating the purpose of having a clue in the first place.

Mine was in Chef's refrigerator. I had already gotten busted for going there once. I didn't want to go there again.

"All you scallywags!" Chris said. "Go find your keys. And bring them back by six P.M. Eastern Standard Time to open up the chest and get your loot! Very well now young scallywags. Now get to it!"

"Aye aye captain!" Izzy said

"A bear? Are you kidding me!?" Heather grumbled.

"Chris, can we use stuff to get our key?" Tyler asked.

"If you want to."

"Can you help someone get their key?" Izzy asked.

"I guess. The more of you that get hurt, the better. Haha!"

We all went to search for our keys.

I checked my watch. There was still seven hours until this challenge ended. I had more than enough time, so there was no need to rush.

Trent was headed to the prop room. I followed him.

"Trent, remember what I said yesterday?" I asked the guitarist.

"I remember."

We entered the room and he started searching for something.

"So where's your key anyway?"

"It's surrounded by sharks." He said, pulling out a fishing line. "Perfect! Now I just need some bait."

"Here." I said, handing him can of worms. Why was that even here?

"Thanks." He said. "So where's yours?"

"Chef's fridge."

"Tough luck."

"Tell me about it."

We were going to leave the prop room when Heather and Geoff entered.

I eyed Heather suspiciously before we left.

Trent headed off towards the lake.

"She's up to something. I know it."

"Noah, are you sure that you aren't just being paranoid?"

"Positive."

He sat down on the dock, attached some bait to his hook and tossed it into the lake.

"You and Gwen seem to be here often."

"The waves have such a calm effect. I love hanging out here with Gwen. She's my dream girl."

We sat for a long while.

"So are you just going to sit here with me? This might take a while. The fish aren't biting."

One hour had gone by already.

I got up to leave. "I'm going to get my key. Don't go anywhere until I come back." I instructed him.

"Why not?"

"She's going to do something to you."

"You seem like you know a little too much."

"Just stay here until I get back. And don't believe everything that you see." I told him.

"You're acting kinda strange. And what if it takes you forever to come back?"

"I'll be back." I said, nowhere near the tone of Arnold Schwarzenegger.

"… Okay." He said. He looked weirded out.

"Good." I left to the Mess Hall.

"This is so cool! I've always wanted to be a pirate! Now I can do battle with Captain Jack Sparrow and stuff!" I hate how she always seems to pop up out of nowhere.

"Izzy, he's not real." I told her.

"Not real? But I saw him in that movie."

"Exactly. He as acting for a movie. He's not actually a pirate. And why are you following me?"

"To get the key."

"Your key's in the Mess Hall too?" I asked her.

"My key? There's more than one key?"

I slapped my face. "Brilliant deduction."

"So where's your key?"

"In Chef's fridge."

"That's an easy one." She said matter-of-factly.

"How is that easy?"

"Just watch." She said, running into the Mess Hall. "Bring it on Cheffy!"

I heard Lindsay screaming her head off. She was being chased by bees and jumped into the lake.

"Here you go!" Izzy screamed in my ear, startling me.

"Thanks for making me half-deaf." I said.

"I got this!" She handed me a key.

"But wasn't Chef guarding it?" I asked her.

"Nothing's impossible for Izzy the Ninja haha!"

"Thanks for getting my key for me." I said.

"No problemo."

"Hey Izzy, are you friends with Heather?" I asked.

"No silly. Why would I be?"

Izzy joined Heather's alliance the first time. I don't know why though.

"Just wondering." I said, heading off to find Trent.

"Finally." He exclaimed as I arrived. "I caught some fish hours ago!"

"We're only two hours into the challenge."

"You told me not to move until you get back."

"Sorry about that. I now have my key so I can keep a close eye on you."

"You're creeping me out here man. Did you have Izzy spy on me this whole time or something?"

"No he didn't!" We heard the crazy girl yell from somewhere. Though we weren't sure where, exactly.

"Now that I have bait, I can use it to get my key."

We walked over to the beach, passing the communal bathrooms on the way.

"Oh for the love of all that's good, someone tell me where this key is!" We heard Geoff yelling from inside.

"I'd hate to be him right now." I said.

Trent threw the fish to the sharks that were encircling his key.

They dispersed immediately and Trent obtained his key with relative ease.

"So can I help Gwen with her key now?" Trent asked, climbing out of the water.

"No!" I said quickly.

"Why not?"

"Hey Noah, I still have to get my key." Izzy said.

"What were you doing up till now?" I asked her.

"Spying on you two. Duh!"

"Then go get your key."

"You have to get it for me."

"And that's because…"

"I got yours, so it would only be fair if you got mine!"

"Even though I appreciate the gesture, I didn't ask you to get my key."

"But I still got it for you."

I knew that this battle was lost anyway, so I agreed to get Izzy's key.

"Trent. You have to go straight to the cabins. No detours or chatting with anyone along the way, do you understand?"

"I'm not a little kid, you know!" Trent said, irritated.

"Just go directly to the Guy's Cabin alright?"

"Fine. Don't know what you're so worried about anyway."

Trent headed off toward the cabin.

"Yeah Noah, why are you so worried about him?"

"Do you want your key or not, Izzy?"

"Of course!"

We went into the forest. Tyler was climbing a tree. His key was in the highest branch.

Tyler then stumbled and fell all the way down.

"Are you okay dude?"

"Yeah. I'm fine." He said, picking himself up and climbing the tree again.

Once again, he fell down on his butt.

"Do you need some help?" Izzy asked him.

"HELP? ME? No way!" The jock said, once again attempting to climb the tree but failing (and falling) miserably. "Almost got it."

"Sure you did. Only a few thousand more tries and you'll have it." I said.

He fell down again. "I nearly touched it that time."

"This is entertaining and all-"

"I know." Izzy said, munching on some popcorn.

"Where did you get- never mind. We should get your key."

"Let's go!"

Izzy's key was on a rock. Easy-peasy except for the fact that a snake was curled around it.

"It seems to be a Diamondback Rattlesnake." I said, studying the creature.

"Poisonous?"

"Yep."

"I love those kinds."

I grabbed a stick. "Let's get this over with."

The snake started to hiss, which scared me a bit.

I poked the snake with the stick and it started curling around it. Perfect. That's just what I wanted to happen.

I tossed the snake aside and Izzy grabbed the key.

"I wish it would have bit you or something. That would have been cool."

"Yes. That would have been great. Can we go now?"

"Only three hours left campers!" Chris was shouting on the loudspeaker.

We went back to the campgrounds.

I went to the cabin. Trent was nowhere to be found.

Alarms were going off in my head right now.

Oh crap! Oh crap! Oh crap!

"Alrighty campers! Meet me at the amphitheater in ten!" Chris said from the loudspeaker. "And bring your keys."

I brought my key over to the amphitheater.

There was an air of ominousness. Most people were glaring at Trent. Death glares.

Aw shoot! Did it happen again? Please don't tell me it happened again.

Bridgette, Tyler and Heather had failed to obtain their keys.

"Dargh. It be time to claim your treasure!" Chris said. "Those fortunate enough to bear your precious key, come forth with it!"

"Any key can unlock any chest, so choose wisely." Chris informed us.

Duncan immediately opened one. His chest contained chips and a can of soda.

"Is this the best that you can do?"

Chris nodded his head.

Gwen got a toaster. "A toaster? What the hell am I supposed to do with a stupid toaster?"

"I don't know." Chris said.

I could swear I heard Gwen muttered something about using the toaster to bash Trent's face in.

Leshawna got a lamp and Lindsay got an accordion.

Geoff got some cologne.

"Geoff will be able to cover up the foul stench with a can of new Cleaver Body Spray. Cleaver! It cuts through the stink."

He must be trying to get an endorsement deal worked up or something.

"I just snorkeled through a septic tank for cologne!? Nice!"

"But not as cool as this machete!" Izzy exclaimed, holding it up in the air. "Muahaha!"

"Izzy, I would appreciate if you didn't do that." Chris said. "Noah, open a chest already!"

I was so absorbed in seeing what the others got that I forgot that I had a key as well.

I went over to one of the four chests and opened it.

Inside was the immunity pass.

"Looks like Noah is invincible for tonight!" Chris said.

"That's great, but can I give this to someone else?" I asked.

"No can do. You can however rip it up and tear it to shreds."

"Why would I do that?"

"I don't know. Just seemed like something you would do."

"…"

"Anyway… I hope everyone got the treasure they were looking for. And more!"

"But now, it's time to do your duty and send one of you off the island for good. So cast your votes. And I'll see ye buccaneers back at the campfire before sundown. Aargh!"

"So what was in the other three treasure chests?" Bridgette asked.

"You don't want to know. Trust me." Was Chris's reply.

The person I was searching for was not there. Trent must have scampered the heck out of here.

There was a lot of murmuring and mumbling going on.

"Did something happen Leshawna?" She was the only Gopher in the vicinity.

She turned to see me. "You mean you seriously don't know?"

"Not really."

"That playboy Trent kissed Lindsay!"

"What the hell!? Lindsay? Are you sure that it wasn't someone else?"

"Positive. Gwen saw them both kiss on the dock. Poor girl. She thought Trent liked her. Most of us did. Turns out we were wrong."

"Isn't Lindsay Tyler's boyfriend?"

"That's what I thought too. They'll both get what's coming to them. I can assure you that." She growled.

And with that, Leshawna stormed back to her cabin. I went to mine.

Why did Lindsay kiss Trent and not Heather?

I opened the door.

"Seriously, what the hell man!?" Tyler screamed. He then socked Trent square in the eye.

Tyler was about to get into a fist-fight with Trent when Duncan and Geoff held him back.

"We're mad too, but we shouldn't beat him up." Duncan said.

"That's because he didn't kiss your girlfriend!" Tyler shouted enraged.

Duncan and Geoff were struggling to hold him back.

"Bad timing?" I asked.

They had only now noticed that I was in the cabin.

Trent was covering his eye. I sat down next to him.

"Don't you think we should hear his story first before jumping to conclusions?" I asked the other three.

"Go on Trent. Let's hear what you have to say about this." Geoff said.

"I woke up at 7:20 in the morning. Then I went outside for a walk-"

"I mean after you got your key." I said.

"I went back to the cabin exactly like you told me to do. No detours, no confessions, nothing."

"And then?" Duncan asked, somewhat irritated.

"I noticed an envelope on my bunk. I opened it. Inside was a letter from Gwen asking me to meet her at the Dock of Shame."

"And you believed this?" I asked him.

"It looked spot-on. I've seen Gwen's handwriting before. This looked almost exactly like it. Maybe if I had examined it more, I could have known that it was a fake, but I didn't."

He sighed. "I hadn't seen Gwen for almost the whole day, so I thought that she needed some help getting her key, so I went over to check it out."

"Big mistake." I told him.

"You never told me to stay put in the cabin. What's the worst that could happen? I thought to myself. If only I had checked Gwen's clue, I would have known that her key was in a skunk hole and nowhere near the dock. Plus, Gwen could have just came up to me and asked for help instead of communicating through some dumb letter."

He repeatedly banged his head against the wall. "I'm so stupid. I could have easily avoided the mess that I'm in right now."

"Please, continue." I said.

"Oh right. Anyway, I went to the dock and saw Lindsay sitting there, bawling her eyes out. Naturally, I went up to her to ask what was wrong."

He let out a deep breath. "She just turned around and kissed me."

"Bullshit!" Tyler yelled, freeing himself and leaping on Trent.

Duncan grabbed a wooden baseball bat from his bag and smashed Tyler on the back of the head.

"That ought to shut him up." Duncan said.

"Ow!" Tyler said, rubbing the back of his head.

"I bet you're just making excuses!" Tyler told Trent. "You wanted to kiss Lindsay, didn't you?"

"What? No! I'm with Gwen. I have the letter with me!" He pulled it out of his pockets and we observed it.

"Who's to say that you didn't just write this recently as a cover up?"

"What would I do that for?"

"Because you wanted Lindsay all for yourself!"

"Maybe Lindsay tempted him on purpose." Duncan said. "She tried to lure him into a trap."

"I think Heather's behind all of this." I said, confusing the others to a great deal.

"What does she have to do with this?" Tyler asked, fury in his eyes.

"Do you really think that Lindsay masterminded this whole operation. I mean, come on, it's Lindsay. I think Heather told her to do it."

"Even if Heather did order Lindsay to kiss Trent, why would Lindsay agree?" Duncan asked.

"I don't know the reason. I'm just stating my opinion. Both Trent and Lindsay don't seem like the types to cheat in a relationship."

"Thank you Noah." Trent said.

"I would never do that to Courtney." Duncan said.

Season 3 would beg to differ.

"Even still, why didn't you push Lindsay away dude?" Geoff asked.

"I was just caught up in the moment. I didn't realize it until it was too late. I tried to talk to Gwen afterwards but she wasn't having it. She ran straight to the cabins and didn't come out."

"How did you guys know about this anyway?" I asked the Bass boys.

"Leshawna." They all said at the same time.

"It's time for the bonfire ceremony guys. One unlucky loser is leaving tonight!" Chris announced.

We got up to go to the campfire pit.

"Please guys. Put yourself in Trent's shoes. Think about the situation before you jump to conclusions. You don't want to make a mistake that you'll end up regretting later on." I said.

"Just like I did." Trent muttered.

He was sulking. "At least you believe me Noah."

"I shouldn't have left you alone in that cabin. Izzy wanted her key and-"

Trent put his hand on my shoulder.

"This is not your fault. It's mine. Don't be so hard on yourself."

"Let's go roast some marshmallows."

The two of us were the last ones to show up at the pit.

"Go cast your votes." Chris instructed us.

For about the umpteenth time, I voted for Heather and sat down in my seat.

"And now the moment we've all been waiting for." Chris said. "The moment of truth. Marshmallow time!"

He pulled out a plate with ten treats on it. Apparently, a new shipment had arrived since he told us that we had run out of marshmallows just two days ago.

"You know the routine. Whoever doesn't get a marshmallow, it's curtains for you."

He then picked up marshmallows and threw them rather quickly to the respective contestants.

"Noah, Izzy, Geoff, Gwen, Leshawna, Lindsay, Bridgette, Tyler, Duncan, Heather. Marshmallows for the lot of ya!"

Trent looked at the empty plate in despair with his mouth agape.

"Sorry dude." Chris said. "You're out."

"That's right. Take your two-timing ways back to where you came from!" Leshawna said to Trent.

"I thought that I'd at least make it to the final 9!" Trent said.

"I'm sorry Trent." Gwen said.

"Can we at least talk about this?" Trent asked her.

"There's nothing left to talk about Trent."

"But Gwen, I love you."

"There's just so much going through my head right now."

"We're still okay, right?"

Trent didn't get an answer because he was interrupted.

"Trent!" Chris said, pulling to two apart. "You have an appointment at the Dock of Shame and a ticket for the Boat of Losers. Let's go."

Gwen and I were the only ones who waved Trent a solemn farewell.

"So are you two still a couple?" I asked Gwen.

"I don't know. I've been all worked up ever since I saw him kissing Lindsay. I was one of the people who voted for him."

"I bet Heather planned it."

"Here you go again with your stupid conspiracy theories."

"They're not stupid!" I said.

"Whatever. I'm going back to the cabins. I think Leshawna and Bridgette will know what to do."

We went our ways. Lucky for me, Tyler was asleep.

I thought that he was going to trash the cabin seeing the rage he had in him a while back.

I think that kicking Trent off as revenge for kissing his girlfriend had calmed him down a bit.

I could only find out tomorrow.

I was seriously wondering about what to do for this chapter.

I had an idea that Heather would trick Noah into kissing her while Izzy watched, I quickly dropped that idea however.

I had a lot of suggestions as far as what to do for this chapter, including allowing it to happen as is.

Noah had to try to stop it from happening. He couldn't just let Trent get kicked off.

Another suggestion was for Heather to kiss Tyler so Lindsay would break up with him.

Wouldn't that just make Lindsay get mad at Heather though?

Ultimately, I decided to make Lindsay kiss Trent so only Noah would know that Heather had some involvement in it.

With Trent gone, Noah has lost the only person who believes him about Heather's evil tendencies.

This conclusion is too damn huge.

The Final Ten: Leshawna, Izzy, Lindsay, Heather, Gwen, Bridgette, Duncan, Tyler, Geoff, Noah

Gone for Good: Trent, Eva, Harold, Katie, DJ, Beth, Cody, Courtney, Sadie, Owen, Justin, Ezekiel
