BENNY POV

Hailey was. . . . interesting.

Oh who the hell was I kidding she was freaking crazy.

I know that seems harsh but she was, she was pretty yes, the kind of girl I always expected smalls to be with. Pretty, Blonde, freckles on her nose, girly, wearing a pretty flowing dress, innocent, shy smile, big blue eyes, and looked at him like he was the answer to her prayers. However, although she was really nice, and sweet, she had one attribute that I would have never expected. Well not an personality trait per say but it was definitely really creepy.

She planned for the future.

Way, way way into the future.

"And then next summer when I come up again Smalls is going to spend a few weeks with me at the cottage, if not every weekend." she said in a soft yet strong voice.

"He is?" ham asked raising an eye at Smalls. We were sitting in a circular booth. Hailey, Smalls, Tommy, Timmy, Yeah yeah, sunshine, Me, Ham, Grover, and Squints.

"Oh yes." She smiled. We had met her ten minutes ago and she had already told us about they're upcoming plans for the next month. . .now we were into next summer.

I was happy for smalls really I was, but he said he wanted her to like us and know us, how were we supposed to hang with her when she was taking him away from us all the time?

"But we have practice-" Grover started.

"Oh don't worry, he'll be able to play of course, but I think he should really be focusing on his career." She said smiling a bright smile.

"career?" I asked.

"Yes, no offense, but playing about in the dirt all day is not going to pay the bills when we're married." That made squints choke on his drink almost spraying her across the table, Grover started to pat on his back to help him.

"Married?" Yeah yeah asked in a forced cheery tone.

"Oh yes, not know of course but after college and then teaching school for me, I'll be ready to accept." she took smalls hand and he smiled shyly and held it. I glanced looks around the table and it seemed we were all thinking the same thing but Toni who didn't even look up at me.

"Am I interrupting?" the waitress asked popping her gum loudly.

"yes and thank you." Tommy said picking up a menu. We all ordered. . . well Hailey ordered for smalls.

"So Tawney," Hailey said.

"Oh my name is Ton-"

"Have you and Benny made wedding plans yet?" she asked. My eyes almost popped out of my head.

"Uh no, we haven't gotten there yet." I said quickly, not able to hide the shock in my voice.

"Our families should get together so the kids can play together, I want at least four." she said. We didn't say anything, what could we say? What could anyone say at that moment?

"Do you think you have everyone's name yet?" Ham asked desperately trying to change the topic.

"Uh I think. Hamilton, Thomas, Timothy, Allan, Tawney, Benjamin, uh Bertram, and Michael?" another thing she did that bugged us, call us all by our full first name.

"Ham."

"Tommy."

"Timmy."

"Yeah yeah."

"Toni. Or Sunshine"

"Benny."

"Grover."

"Squints." we all corrected. She was silent giving us the whats the difference? I said your names. look

We let it go.

"How long have you been together?" she asked playing with a strand of her hair.

"Almost four years." Toni answered.

"That is so sweet, how did you two meet?" she asked.

"I hit her with a ball, and then saved her life." I replied, her eyes widened.

'You hit her?"

"Not on purpose, she was walking on the sandlot and she got hit."

"So you play on the team?" she asked. At that moment I realized smalls had barely told her anything about us. I gave him a look which he returned with a sheepish one, understanding why I was giving him the sharp look.

"Yeah it's a lot of fun do you play sports?" Toni asked, I knew the answer but it was better then more talk about her and smalls future.

"Oh no, never been good at them, but everyone says I'd make a good wife and mother.'

"Everyone huh?" Ham asked, Sunshine's leg came up and kicked me under the table.

'OW Sunshine!" I said grabbing for my shin.

"Sorry pass that onto Ham." She said glaring at the red head smart mouth.

Our food came and we began to eat. We stuffed our faces hoping to avoid conversation with Hailey.

"So smalls tomorrow we gotta get-" I started but Hailey cut me off.

"Tomorrow? Scott you're supposed to meet my grandma, oh she has my mom's wedding dress, it is so beautiful, but you can't see it cause it's bad luck." she smiled.

"uh, What are you talking about? We have something really important to do tomorrow." Tommy said.

"yeah yeah, and smalls has to be there, he can't miss out on It.'

"What?" Hailey asked in a happy curious voice.

"Playing-" Timmy started but she interrupted him.

"Playing baseball? Well I'm sure that can wait, the box will be there the next day." The box?

"So will your grandma, and it's the diamond, not box." Ham said shooting her a glare.

"Ham." I warned and he took the look off his face.

"I already told her he'd meet her."
"Well tell her to meet him another day and-." Ham said getting annoyed, leaning over the table slightly.

"It's rude to cancel." She said her voice getting its own edge.

"No rude is interrupting every-" I grabbed a handful of fries and stuffed it into his mouth then, the last thing we needed was Ham ticking her off and making Smalls upset. He liked her and the least we could do was give him a decent meal with her.

"Don't mind him, he's been cranky since his cat died." Toni said.

"I don't have a cat." ham said through his mouthful of fries.

"Well not anymore." Toni said trying to keep her voice light and playful.

"I never had a cat." Ham said utterly confused.

"You'll have what ever the hell I say you have!" Toni growled at him through clenched teeth. Ham either understood or was just terrified of Toni in that moment. What ever the reason he started to play along.

"Oh I miss him so much." Ham yelled throwing his head into his hands over dramatically. Clearly trying to piss off Toni with his actions. Toni didn't seem too fazed by what Hailey had been saying, she had been pissing us off with her slams on ball and all that but Sunshine was the only one that hadn't choked on food or looked shocked yet.

"Oh that's sad." Hailey said. Ham nodded and wiped away a imaginary tear. Toni rolled her eyes. "Oh Scott you have something on your shirt, come on I'll help you clean it excuse us." Hailey said.

We nodded and as soon as she turned the corner we began to talk.

"She's. . ." Tommy started.

"Brain sick? Insane? Crazy? Annoying? Disturbed? Yeah I'm good with all of those." Ham said throwing a fry down onto his plate.

"So we all agree, that she is completely demented right? And we hate her?" Squints asked getting words of agreement from us.

"What? You guys, come one she's nice-" Toni started.

"That's what makes her creepy no one is that nice. She's like those cute little panda's that seem so innocent then you go to pet it and it bites your head off!" Timmy said.

"Yeah yeah come on Toni, that whole marriage and kids thing is freaky." Yeah yeah said Toni rolled her eyes.

"She's exited to have smalls in her life, she obviously isn't that serious."

"Are you kidding me? A Crazy alarm should go off when ever she walks in the room." Grover exclaimed.

"It's cause you're guys, look I don't see her as Crazy and if I did I'd let you know." She said sitting back in her seat I looked around at the guys. I don't know how Toni doesn't tell. Its weird for a girl to be planning for the future like that. How can she not see it?!

"Tawney." Hailey said coming over to us again. Sunshine looked up.

"Its-"
"What do you think of Yellow?"

"Yellow?" She held up a napkin with a pattern on it. Sure enough there was yellow on it.

"Well I was thinking I want yellow for the bridesmaids dresses and since you'll be the maid of honor at the wedding I wanted your input. I think that Yellow will be a good colour don't you?" Oh here we go. I couldn't help but grin and lean on my elbows watching this.

"What?"

"Yellow sundresses that's what I'm thinking, you'll look amazing, oh with how close Benjamin and Scott are we're practically sisters. We'll have to discuss flowers I love roses but can you get them in yellow? We should have a sleep over so we can talk about it, I'll tell you the details later- oh and also I think updoes with little white flowers." then she turned and was gone. Toni turned to us.

"BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP, the crazy alarm has gone off." she said gripping the edge of the table.

"Now that we're all on the same page can we please tie that chick to a rocket?" Ham asked in a desperate voice.

"No we're not gonna do anything." Toni said.

"But-"
"Guys It's his first girlfriend we can't mess that up."

"They're not dating, we still have time to mess it up." Yeah yeah said quickly.

"Yeah yeah, we can't do that to him." Toni said finally.

"But-'

"No buts, look he's our friend and he likes her, and if we just need to shut up and take it then that's what we'll do.'

"I agree with toni." I said, it was true I hadn't seen a girl look at smalls in a long time I think he deserved a girl.

"Benny man, you can't be serious." Grover complained.

"I am." I said.

They huffed. But that was only because smalls and Hailey had returned.

Small talk was exchanged and it seemed that after pointing it out to Sunshine she couldn't unsee it cause every time Hailey mentioned something about smalls and her in the future she would squeeze the hand of mine she was holding under the table.

"Look Hailey, I think it's all great and stuff, it's just smalls already made a commitment to come with us." Grover tried to reason after the subject was brought up again.
"But it's my grandmother." Hailey complained.

"I understand that but you said it was rude to cancel and smalls would be canceling on us." Toni said joining in on the conversation for the first time since the beginning.

"Tawney, if you told your-"

"HER NAME IS TONI!" Squints suddenly yelled out making everything fall to a dead silence. "I apologize, please continue." He said shoving a fry in his mouth we stared at him in fear and shock from his outburst. Slowly we all started to do different things. Playing with food, looking at the pictures on the walls. Hailey opened and closed her mouth multiple times but didn't say a thing.

"I need to go with them tomorrow.' Smalls finally said.

"What?" Hailey asked astonished.

"Sorry Hails but I did promise them and I can't ditch my friends, tell your grandma I'm sorry but I'll see her next time." Smalls said.

We all tensed waiting for the moment Hailey would snap at him. But she never did just smiled and nodded.

"Okay Scott." she said.

"Why didn't you say that an hour ago?" Tommy demanded. Smalls smiled shyly and shrugged.

"You L-7 weenie!" Yeah yeah yelled at him. The jerk was just amused by it and just let it keep going until we snapped.

"What?" Hailey asked big blue eyes searching for an explanation to what an L-7 weenie was.

"never mind. I'm done eating what about you guys?" I asked, they practically ran from the booth, dropping money on the table.

"Nice meeting you guys." Hailey said then turned to say good bye to smalls.

We gave them privacy and left the diner.

"That's what hell is like lady and gentlemen." ham muttered stretching out his arms.

I snickered. It was pretty bad.

"Well now we never have to see her again." Toni said.

"You don't know that, she might come to the field-" Ham started.

"And what? Guys come on can you really see her on the field? And even if she was she couldn't control anything there. She knows nothing about the game." I said, cracking my knuckle.

They all muttered about me having a point when Smalls came out grinning like an idiot.

"So what do you think of Hailey?" he asked.

You aren't supposed to lie to your friends, but we couldn't help it we promised to help and try to make it work so we gritted our teeth and told him we thought she was great.

Smalls grinned ecstatic that we liked her.

"That's great I think she liked you guys too." he smiled.

I grabbed Toni's hand and all together we headed to the sandlot.

We tried to keep talk about Hailey to a minimum. I didn't want someone to blurt something out or have anyone say something stupid.

"Benny what are we gonna do?" Toni asked coming up beside me while smalls tailed in the back.

"What do you mean?" I asked raising an eyebrow at her.

"You know what I mean. Hailey, we can't let her control him."
"Wait I thought we weren't going to do anything." I questioned furrowing my brow at her.

"We're not gonna break them up or anything but come on, smalls is too nice a guy to tell her to stop walking all over him." She said.

"Yeah but I don't think there is anything we can do." I said.

"First relationships can be rocky at first, maybe we should wait it out." she said looking back to make sure they were still a good distance away.

"Ours wasn't rocky, ours was smooth and seductive." I teased stopping to snake my arms around her waist and leaned into kiss her, she laughed and rolled her head to the side.

"I'm serious."

"So am I.' I smirked pulling her closer to me.

"We agreed non of that!" yeah yeah yelled at us.

"I didn't sign anything." I yelled back.

"Alright lets go, we need to get ready for tonight!" Toni said taking off for the sandlot all of us hot on her heels.

You have finally met Hailey, I had a friend who had a girl like her. . . . . creepiest thing I have ever seen. Anyways I hope you like it, I love writing for you guys. :D
