CHAPTER THIRTY-FIVE
-Percy
The explosion rocked the world from the centre of the battlefield and resonated out in a shockwave that sent me, Tyler and Annabeth flying off. My ears were ringing and the dust clogged the air. When it cleared, the Ender Dragon reared on its hind legs from the centre of the battlefield, letting out a loud, ear-splitting screech. Green fire exploded out and I struggled to regain my bearings, searching for Annabeth. A few of the soldiers were standing up now, good and bad, and then I saw Annabeth, spread-eagled on the grass under the tree line.
"Annabeth!" I said, stumbling over to her, the world spinning. I leant down and nearly tumbled into her, but I managed to get her up. I couldn't see Riptide anywhere but suddenly felt a familiar weight in my pocket. At least its magic hadn't been knocked out of it.
-Bajan
I stood up and walked away from Jerome, red-hot rage threatening to spill. I watched as the stupid Ender Dragon dive-bombed and made the entire battlefield shake, sending many flying. I dug my sword into the ground and held on, ducking my head and going through the shockwave that followed. I then had the most brilliant idea in the history of brilliantly amazing ideas.
"Sky!" I yelled, and I saw one of the lumps get up and look at me. Sky. I motioned for him to get over here and he zipped over, finishing anyone who got in his way with practised ease.
"We need to fire charge it from above," I said, gesturing to the top of the building. Sky was sceptical.
"But it's half-fallen apart, we could maybe kill the Ender Dragon but it would surely bring the building down on us," Sky said, and I nodded.
"Exactly," I said with a bright smile.
-Annabeth
I saw Tyler getting up and watched him calmly readjust his glasses, which he had to failed to notice had cracked all down the middle of one lenses.
"I am so damn tired of getting thrown around. Seriously," Tyler said, and he bent down and grabbed one of the dead bodies who'd been thrown by the belt. He went through it and found a scabbard and unsheathed the sword still inside it. I lost my sword in the explosion. I needed to borrow a new one. I copied his action and found one.
"What the hell were they doing with their swords sheathed?" I asked cautiously, and Percy nodded as he uncapped Riptide.
"That's really, really weird, but Annabeth, I think we have some trouble," Percy said quickly, and he pointed. Mitch and Sky, climbing up the collapsed part of the building.
"What are they doing?" Tyler said in disbelief, and then laughed. He sounded like a dolphin. "Notch, look at what they're holding." Percy squinted and then his eyes widened.
"No way! Sweet! Are they going to try and blow it up?" Percy asked, and I looked at what they held in their hands. It was hard to tell from afar and I didn't recognise the shapes.
"I think they are," Tyler let out a long breath and pushed his messy hair out of his eyes, blinking a few times. "Let's go kill as many folks as we can before they blow us all to the Aether."
-Sparklez
I got up as soon as the dust cleared and ran at the now grounded Ender Dragon, slashing at its feet with my sword. It hissed and kicked out, hitting me square in the chest. I fell backwards and skid along. Gritting my teeth, I got up again and went back at it, swinging my sword at its leg, trying to break it's hard, scaly skin. I kept doing it, managing to do my funky little teleport thing whenever it tried to hit me. It was starting to make me feel sick, actually. It roared in fury and I hit it on my mark, finally cutting it. It's blood was green. I stopped for one second to regain my balance and in that second it wrapped its tail around my legs and pulled them out from under me. I flopped onto my chest and scrabbled at the ground desperately, and it pulled me up and dangled me upside down. I found myself f ace-to-face with its foreboding purple eyes. It pulled back a breath to incinerate me and I went limp, waiting to die.
-Sky
We made it to the top, the cobbles shifting beneath us dangerously. Mitch unhooked his fire charge and held it up, ready to throw.
"Wait!" I yelled, halting his arm. "We need Jordan to get out of the way!" Mitch looked at me for a second and I thought he would throw it at me, but then he lowered his arm.
"We're waiting for only a minute," Mitch huffed, so we waited. And then Jordan got swept up in it's tail and I panicked.
"Holy shit! Now now now!" I yelled, and we hurled it. There was a moment when all I was aware of was our fire charges flying slowly and the Ender Dragon inhaling, the air stinking of smoke, and then Mitch's charge hit. One second of silence, and then bam. It exploded against the Ender Dragon's body, knocking it the side, and mine hit the jaw, sending Jordan on a free fall, and we threw again and this time we got the neck. The Ender Dragon tried to take off but we'd ripped a hole in one of its wings so it couldn't fly.
"Now!" Mitch yelled, and we threw our final charges. Connection. Explosion. The roof beneath us, shifted, rumbled; it couldn't take the stress of the fires raging inside and the structural damage. We looked at each other and started running, but we were too late. With a crash, the roof fell in and we tumbled down with the Sky Army Base.
-Hazel
The Ender Dragon spewed out green light and then disappeared and the world rumbled as the entire base caved in on itself, sending out dust, rocks and mess. My eyes widened as the dirt beneath me fell in. The basement system stretched out further than I thought. I fell into what was an old hall and a large cobble stone block smashed into my temple. The world disappeared.
-Leo
I ran towards the edge of the sink hole that was forming at my feet with Ant, the two of us desperately trying to escape. Then it fully went out and we both fell, slamming against blocks and dirt, into an already half-caved in part of one of the halls. The rubble filled in around us and I felt one of my legs explode with pain. Ant collided with a block which had fallen from the wall and he flopped there, unmoving. I gasped in pain and felt tears well in my eyes. The sunlight disappeared as the dirt and rubble finished making us our tomb. I cried out and then, heroically, I lost consciousness.
-Percy
We were standing too close to the building. Further off, people began disappearing under the ground as the tunnel system caved, and I felt pain as the rocks from the Sky Army Base collapsed behind us, knocking me down. I watched in horror as Annabeth as hit in the back of the head and she fell down beside me. I threw my body over hers desperately and then the world went dark as the rocks forced me out of consciousness.
-Nico
"Drive faster!" I yelled, and Thalia glared at me in the rear-view mirror.
"What do you think I'm doing? We're nearly there anyway!" Thalia huffed. She pulled up and Piper jumped out of the car, and I grabbed my crutches and followed her out. Thalia climbed out and locked her little car and we ran into the lobby. We had our usual argument with the lobby guy and then he let us up. I waited patiently while Piper slammed her hand against the side of the elevator, her lips in a grim line.
"How long does it take, stupid elevator?!" Piper yelled, and Thalia winced.
"Calm down, Pipes," she muttered, and Piper shot her this poisonous look that made me fear Aphrodite. When the doors opened, we ran up to Olympus, Thalia a great deal slower of the new bridge that led from the elevator to the small town. Annabeth's work was beautiful, but we could hardly stop to admire it. We burst into the throne room most rudely and were surprised to not be vaporised on the spot. Only Poseidon sat in his throne, looking bored out of his mind, fiddling with his trident.
"Sir! Your Highness!" I said quickly, out of breath. Piper and Thalia bowed and I tried something awkward with my crutches.
"Children? What on earth are you doing here?" Poseidon asked.
"Percy and Leo and Jason and Hazel from the Roman camp have disappeared into a portal into a new world called Minecraftia and they've been trapped there for three weeks and Dionysus won't rescue them he wants to blow up the portal and leave them there!" I blurted. Piper nodded frantically and Thalia looked concerned. Poseidon looked taken aback, he swallowed before changing into his human form and walking over to us.
"Is this true?" he asked, and I nodded. Poseidon sighed.
"There's nothing we can do about it, I'm afraid," he said, and Piper's jaw dropped.
"You monster," she whispered. "We have to save them! We have to!"
"I have to do nothing, child," Poseidon said gently. "Dionysus's word is final when it comes to the Camp."
"But the Romans! Do you want another war with them?" Thalia said, annoyed, and I nodded.
"That would be terrible. They'll think we kidnapped them and the mess will happen all over again, just like when we were fighting Gaia!" I said. "Don't you owe to them after saving the world to at least try to save them?" Poseidon was baffled by it all and he looked a bit shocked.
"I can do nothing. Now, leave," he commanded, and tears welled in Piper's eyes.
"You're all cowards!" she screamed, and she ran out of the room. Thalia ran after her, shouting her name. I flinched, waiting for Poseidon to kill us, but he simply sighed and returned to his throne.
"I really wish I could help, but Zeus-" Poseidon stopped and I stared at him.
"Zeus what? Wait… did you actually know about this?" I asked in disbelief, and he looked guiltily at me.
"How do you think the portal got there in the first place?" Poseidon asked tiredly, and I stared at him, shocked to my core.
"What?! You put it there? Are you freaking kidding me!" I yelled, and Poseidon rubbed his face.
"We needed to get rid of the portal; it was too powerful for our liking. We thought you'd never find it there. We honestly didn't expect things to happen this way," Poseidon said. I turned around walked away.
"Where do you think you're going?" Poseidon asked, and I looked at him over my shoulder.
"I'm going to save my friends," I said, and then I limped away as heroically as I could on crutches.
