The next morning I woke up and snuggled into my pillow before noticing something missing in my bed. I looked behind me to see Nik was missing. I got up and got dressed before going to Nikolas' room and seeing him gone. I walked downstairs to see Nik drawing and Kol talking to him with Nikolas in his bassinet.
"Hello boys." I said sitting on the arm of the sofa Nik was sitting on.
"And the lovely Nicole joins us. Have a good night last night?" he asked me smirking. Really needed to sound proof the walls here.
"It was wonderful. How was yours?" I asked him.
"Lacking a bit." he told me and I laughed. We heard the door open and saw Rebekah walk in the room wearing the same dress as last night.
"Well, well, well, there's our girl." Kol said, standing in front of her.
"Get out of my way, Kol." she ordered him but he didn't listen.
"Out all night. What a scandal! I trust you did better than that commoner? Matt, was it?" Kol asked her, smirking.
"If you don't shut your mouth, the next thing to come out of it will be your teeth." Rebekah told him and I saw Nik grin. "Don't start, Nik!"
"I didn't say anything." Nik told her as he continued his drawing.
"I'm bored. Our sister is a strumpet, but at least she's having fun. I need entertainment." Kol told us.
"What are you waiting for? Go on, have at it." Nik told him.
"It's not fun to go alone, you should know that with your girl. Join me, Nik! It's the least you can do after sticking a dagger in my heart." Kol told him.
"Maybe some brother bonding time will be a good thing." I offered to Nik.
"Listen to your girl, Nik, she's the smart one." Kol told him.
"Shut up Kol." I told him.
"Okay. Why not? I didn't have nearly enough to drink last night, what with you trying to murder Rebekah's date." Nik said before both he and Kol started to leave.
"Yes, please go, this house has enough men rolling around it in." Bekah told them making me laugh.
"Just like you, Bekah." Kol said and she threw her shoes at him.
"Good riddance, both of you!" she yelled as they left. I turned and saw Elijah walk in the room, holding something.
"Rebekah."
"Not you too, Elijah." she asked him.
"I'm worried about mother. Have you not noticed her strange behavior?" he asked.
"She's been dead for a thousand years. What's strange for her?" Bekah asked him.
"Burnt sage." Elijah said showing us the sage. Rebekah took it from him and looked it over. "She was doing a privacy spell."
"You know she fancies such things. Why don't you ask Finn? He's been doting on her." Bekah told him.
"I don't trust, Finn. He hates what we are, he always has." Elijah told her.
"That's not true. And as for mother, she returned for one reason, to make our family whole. She loves us. What trouble are you looking to find?" Rebekah asked him.
"I think we should listen to him Bekah. Something is not right with her and your brother." I said.
"My mother has done nothing by welcome you into our family and this is how you repay her? With suspicion?" she asked me.
"I'm just being cautious." I told her. "I just want us to be safe."
"Safe? From who?" Rebekah asked us. "You sister is the only one who's ever hurt us." she told me.
"You are not the only one who has been hurt." I reminded her. "She's been hurt just as much as you have."
"So one of her friends stabbed her in the back?" she asked me.
"I didn't say that Rebekah. I'm just saying that she hasn't had the best year with Nik killing her then taking her boyfriend and now her boyfriend tried to kill me and turn her into a vampire. Stefan tried to take the only family she has left and she blames Nik because Stefan wants revenge on him for taking everything from him." I reminded her. "Elena may have stabbed you in the back in make sure they could try and kill Nik, but Stefan has done things for his revenge against Nik."
"You're lying." she told me before leaving.
"What do you think Elijah?" I asked him.
"I think we all must be careful." he told me before my phone rang.
"Hello?" I said into the phone to my sister.
"Nikky? Can you come home for a minute?" she asked me.
"Sure, what's going on?" I asked her looking at Elijah.
"Just...come home." she told me and I sighed.
"I'll be there soon." I told her before hanging up. "I'm sure you heard that." I said to Elijah.
"I did." he told me.
"Do you think she knows what your mother may be planning?" I asked him.
"I do." he told me and I sighed. I picked up Nikolas and walked to my car with Elijah behind me. "Be careful. We still do not know what my mother is planning for us."
"I will." I promised before putting Nikolas into his car seat in my car and leaving for my childhood home.
When I walked into the house I smiled when I saw Aunt Jenna and Elena who both looked at me sadly.
"Hey, what's going on?" I asked them. Elena looked from me to Aunt Jenna then back to me. I put Nikolas in a bassinet that I kept here for him and looked at them. "What is it?"
"Nikky, I'm sorry. I had no other choice. It was the only way." Elena told me.
"What was the only way?" I asked her smile faltering.
"When we opened the coffin we were keeping from Klaus we never expected Esther to be in it. She was supposed to help us kill Klaus." Elena told me.
"Skip to the point." I told her.
"Elena told us that their is a way to kill Klaus." Aunt Jenna told me. I looked between the two of them before shaking my head.
"What are you saying?" I asked, hoping for something different than what I was thinking.
"Esther linked all of her children together and plans to kill them all." Elena told me.
"The only way to kill them is with the white oak stake and that was destroyed when Nik staked Mikael." I reminded them.
"She says their's a spell that will kill them all." Aunt Jenna told me and I shook my head.
"You're lying." I said to them.
"No, we're not." Elena told me.
"Why are you telling me this?" I asked them.
"So you could spend his last day with him as a family." Aunt Jenna told me.
"What makes you think I won't tell him?" I asked them.
"We know you will. That's why we can't let you leave until it's almost time." she told me.
"Time for what?" I growled at her.
"For them to die." Elena said. I went to her and slapped her hard. Aunt Jenna used her speed and pulled me away from Elena.
"How could you do this?! Elijah tried to save you during the ritual that Nik needed you for?" I shouted at her.
"I know." she told me looking down. "But their's nothing I can do. We need Klaus dead."
"I love him." I told her, tears falling from my eyes. "Elena, please. Let me tell them, warn them so they can stop her. They have all done things that will haunt them forever, but they don't deserve to die." she looked at me with tears in her eyes. "Please, Elena, I'm begging you."
"I'm sorry." she said to me and I felt someone's arms around me, I struggled to get loose but the strength was too much proving it was a vampire who held me. The vampire put something over my mouth, forcing me to breath something into my system. "I'm sorry Nikky." Elena said to me and I just glared at her. When my struggles stopped and I felt myself getting weaker the vampire holding me lied me down and I looked to see Stefan giving me a sad look. "It'll be ok, Nikky. You'll see." Elena told me and I turned my face to her.
"Liar." with my final word my world grew dark.
When I woke up it was dark. I looked around and saw I was in my room at the Gilbert house. I jumped up and saw that no one was here. Jenna, Elena, Stefan and Nikolas were all gone. I searched my person for my phone but that was also gone. I quickly ran to my car and pulled out the spare key before speeding the the Grill. When I got there I saw Nik talking to Care outside. I ran out of my car and to them.
"Nik!" I called to him and he looked up to me and a smile broke out onto his face. He used his vampire speed to reach me quicker and kissed me deeply. We parted only for air.
"Where were you, I was worried. When I saw Jenna with Nikolas I assumed you were mad about something and then Caroline..."
"Nik, I have to tell you something and you have to listen to me." I told him quickly.
"What is it? What's wro..." he put his hand on his heart and I looked at him worried for a moment.
"What is it?" I asked him.
"What did you do?" He asked turning to look at Caroline.
"Nothing." she told him.
"What did you do?!" he shouted at her.
"I didn't do anything. Stop it!" she shouted at him.
"Nik! It's what I was trying to tell you about! You and your siblings are all linked right now. Esther connected all of you together." I told him and he looked back at the Grill.
"Kol!" he wrapped his arm around my waist and sped off to an alleyway where the Salvatore's and Ric were with Kol. He released me and undaggered Kol before knocking Ric against the wall. I watched Stefan try to attack Nik but my Hybrid knocked him out. "I should have killed you months ago." Nik said to Damon.
"Do it. It's not going to stop Esther from killing you." Damon told him.
"What did you say about my mother?" Nik asked him getting angry.
"You didn't know I was friends with your mummy? Yeah, we have a lot in common. She hates you as much as I do." Nik was about to attack Damon when Elijah appeared next to me.
"Nik stop!" I shouted at him.
"Leave him! We still need them, Niklaus." Elijah told him.
"What did mother do? What did she do, Elijah?" Nik ordered from his elder brother, who walked to Damon holding a phone.
"You tell me where the witches are or I'll have my sister kill Elena right now." Elijah threatened.
"You told me we had until after nine." Damon told him.
"I'm sure Rebekah will be more than happy to start her work early." Elijah told him. Damon told him what he wanted to know before he and Stefan left for the witch house.
"Nikky, get Nikolas and go home. I'll meet you there." Nik told me and I shook my head.
"No, I'm not leaving you." I told him.
"Please. I couldn't bear to see you hurt." he told me and I sighed before giving in.
"Fine, but you better get home soon." I told him. He kissed me before we went our separate ways. I gathered Nikolas from Jenna and went back to the Mansion where I put my son to bed then sat by the fire. I got a text from Caroline saying Bonnie's mom was turned into a vampire and was in transition but I didn't care. I only wanted one bit of news and I hadn't heard anything. I heard the door open and rushed to see Elijah, Kol and Nik walk in. I smiled and ran to Nik hugging him tightly.
"Don't ever scare me like that again." I ordered him.
"As you wish." he told me softly, knowing his brothers could still hear us. Kol left soon after while Elijah waited for Rebekah to come home. I turned as Rebekah walked into the parlor where Nik and I were. "I thought you'd have gone by now. Elijah's leaving. Kol's fled. Esther and Finn are gone too."
"I hated you when I learned you killed our mother. But I realize now that after a thousand years together as a family, you're the only one who never left me. Both of you haven't left me." Bekah told us.
"Well, we're quite the trio." he told her, smirking lightly.
"There's something I need you to see." Rebekah told us pulling out her phone and showing us a video of Elena talking.
"Come to brag about your skills as a torturer?" Nik asked her.
"Look at the images on the wall behind Elena. The Natives told the story of our family history, look at the images on the far wall." Rebekah told us. I looked at the phone but I didn't understand the images I was seeing.
"What is it?" I asked her.
"A Native worshipping at the Great White Oak tree." Bekah told us and I looked at her confused.
"And? We burned that tree to the ground." Nik told her.
"Look at the markings that precede it. That's the native calendar." Nik looked back at the phone and looked fearful.
"This can't be right." he told her.
"What is it?" I asked them.
"A White Oak tree, 300 years after we fled back to the Old World. There must have been a sapling, a new tree to replace the old. That tree could kill us. It's not over." she told us.
