Out of the corner of my eye I saw Rose's eyes widen. "The Doctor kicked you out?"

"I failed to save someone... important to him…. He got angry and kicked me out." Rose looked at me sadly. She looked like she wanted to say something, but didn't.

"You will obey Dalek instructions without question. You will obey your Dalek ma-" The Daleks started saying.

Beep, beep, beep, beep. Beep, beep, beep, beep. "Can anyone hear me? The Subwave Network is open. You should be able to hear my voice Is there anyone there?" A static ridden picture comes on the laptop screen.

"I know that voice." Rose said.

I smiled weekly. "Harriet Jones."

"This message is of the utmost importance. We haven't much time. Can anyone hear me?" Harriet said. Then a few moments later "Captain Jack Harkness, shame on you. Now stand to attention, sir. Harriet Jones, former Prime Minister."

"Yeah, I know who you are." Jack said, coldly. I winced and Rose rubbed my arm.

"Harriet, it's me. It's me. Oh, she can't hear me. Have you got a webcam?"

"No, she wouldn't let me. She said they're naughty." Wilf said, nodding his head to his wife. They were sitting together on the couch opposite us, having come in once they heard the former prime minister's voice coming from their laptop.

"I can't speak to her then, can I?" Rose replied.

"Sarah Jane Smith, 13 Bannerman you there?"

"Yeah. Yeah, I'm here. That, that's me." Sarah said.

"Good. Now let's see if we can talk to each other." Three images come up on the four quarters of the screen - Harriet in her flat, Jack at Torchwood, Sarah and Luke in Sarah's attic, and static. "The fourth contact seems to be having some trouble getting through."

"That's me. Harriet, that's me!" Rose said, tapping the laptop.

"I'll just boost the signal." Harriet said.

"Hello?" Martha said, her background showed her mother's house.

"Ha, ha! Martha Jones!" Jack said.

Off screen Gwen said, "Looks like someone owes Susan an apology."

Jack winced as Martha said, "What did you do now?"

Gwen pushed Jack out of the way and said, "Hi, it's Gwen and he yelled at her and she ran off. We don't know where she went."

"Who's she? I want to get through." Rose said, talking about Martha and tapping at the computer desperately trying to get in touch with her old friends.

"Um." I said awkwardly. "Companion after you?" Rose glared at me then turned back to the laptop.

"Martha, where are you?" Jack asked, changing the topic.

"I guess Project Indigo was more clever than we thought. One second I was in Manhattan, next second. Maybe Indigo tapped into my mind, because I ended up in the one place that I wanted to be." Martha said, smiling and looked up at her mother.

"You came home. At the end of the world, you came back to me." Martha's mother said, surprised and proud of her daughter.

"But then all of a sudden, it's like the laptop turned itself on." Martha said.

"It did." Harriet said. "That was me. Harriet Jones, former Prime Minister."

"Yes, I know who you are." Martha said.

"I thought it was about time we all met given the current crisis. Torchwood, this is Sarah Jane Smith."

"I've been following your work. Nice job with the Slitheen." Jack commented.

"Yeah, well, I've been staying away from you lot. Too many guns." Sarah nods towards young Luke.

"All the same, might I say looking good, ma'am?" Jack said. I winced at his flirting. he must still be angry with me or he wouldn't flirt.

"Really? What about Susan?" Sarah asked, raising an eyebrow. I smiled. I would have to thank her for sticking up for me when I wasn't there.

"Not now, Captain. And Martha Jones former companion to the Doctor." Harriet began.

"Oi. So was I." Rose said offended.

"Well they still think that you are in Pete's world." I retorted.

Rose looked at me and said, "Good point."

"But how did you find me?" Martha asked.

"This, ladies and gentlemen, this is the Subwave Network. A sentient piece of software programmed to seek out anyone and everyone who can help to contact the Doctor. Put together by myself and Susan Jane Anderson who is probably pissed by the way, Captain Harkness."

On the screen Jack winced.

"What if the Daleks can hear us?" Martha asked.

"No, that's the beauty of the Subwave. It's undetectable."

"And you invented it? You and Susan?" Sarah asked.

"Susan and I developed it. It was created by the Mister Cooper Foundation."

"Yeah, but what we need right now is a weapon." Jack said. "Martha, back there at UNIT, what, what did they give you? What was that key thing?"

Martha took a deep breath and said "The Osterhagen key." I winced and Rose looked at me weird.

"That key is not to be used, Doctor Jones. Not under any circumstances." Harriet said. Rose raised an eyebrow at me and I shook my head.

"But what is an Osterhagen key?" Jack asked.

"Forget about the key, and that's an order." Harriet said. "All we need is The Doctor."

"Only, excuse me, Harriet, but. Well, the thing is, if you're looking for the Doctor, didn't he oppose you?" Sarah Jane Smith said.

"He did. And I've wondered about that for a long time, whether I was wrong. But I stand by my actions to this day, because I knew, I knew that one day, the Earth would be in danger, and the Doctor would fail to appear. I told him so myself, and he didn't listen."

"He always comes." I murmured. Only Rose heard me and she nodded.

"But I've been trying to find him. The Doctor's got my phone on the Tardis, but I can't get through." Martha said.

"Nor me, and I was here first." Rose said pissed off.

"That's why we need the Subwave. To bring us all together. Combine forces. The Doctor's secret Army."

"Wait a minute. We boost the signal. That's it. We transmit that telephone number through Torchwood itself, using all the power of the Rift." Jack said.

"And we've got Mister Smith." Luke said. "He can link up with every telephone exchange on the Earth."

"Good boy Luke." I whispered.

"He can get the whole world to call the same number, all at the same time. Billions of phones, calling out all at once."

"Brilliant Luke!" Jack said.

"Excuse me. Sorry. Sorry. Hello. Ianto Jones." Ianto appeared on the screen. "Er, if we start transmitting, then this Subwave Network is going to become visible. I mean, to the Daleks." Ianto said.

"Yes, and they'll trace it back to me. But my life doesn't matter. Not if it saves the Earth."

Jack salutes. "Ma'am."

"Thank you, Captain. But there are people out there dying on the streets."

"Marvelous woman. I voted for her." Wilf said, pleased.

"You did not." Silvia argued with him.

"Now, enough of words. Let's begin."

"Rift power activated." Jack said.

"All terminals coordinated." Gwen said.

"National grid online. Giving you everything we've got." Ianto concluded.

"Connecting you to Mister Smith." Sarah Jane said.

"All telephone networks combined." Luke said.

Martha took a deep breath and said, "Sending you the number now."

Calling: 07700 900461

"Opening Subwave Network to maximum." The former Prime Minister said.

"Mister Smith, make that call." Sarah said.

"Calling the Doctor." Mister Smith said.

"So am I." Rose and I took out our cell phones and started to dial.

"And sending!" Jack yelled. "I think we've got a fix!"

"Mister Smith now at two hundred per cent!" Sarah yelled. "Oh, come on, Doctor."

Rose, Wilf, Sylvia and I are using our cell phones too. "Find me, Doctor. Find me." Rose muttered.

"Harriet, a saucer's locked on to your location. They've found you." Gwen said.

"I know. I'm using the Network to mask your transmission. Keep going."

"Exterminate."

"Captain, I'm transferring the Subwave Network to Torchwood. You're in charge now. And tell the Doctor from me he chose his companions well. It's been an honor." Harriet gets up to face the three Daleks who have smashed their way in, and shows her ID. "Harriet Jones. Former Prime Minister."

"Yes, we know who you are." The Dalek said.

"Oh, you know nothing of any human, and that will be your downfall." Those were the last words of Harriet Jones, former Prime Minister of Great Britain.

"Exterminate." The first quarter of the screen dissolves into static.

"The entire Medusa Cascade has been put a second out of sync with the rest of the universe. Perfect hiding place." The Doctor's voice comes through the computer. I jumped, startled for a second. "Tiny little pocket of time. But we found them. Ooo, ooo, ooo, what's that? Hold on, hold on. Some sort of Subwave Network." The Doctor and Donna take Harriet's quarter of the screen.

"Yes!" I yelled, even though I knew it was going to happen.

"Where the hell have you been?" Jack asked. "Doctor, it's the Daleks."

"Oh, he's a bit nice. I thought he'd be older." Gwen said. I smirked.

"He's not that young." Ianto said.

"It's the Daleks. They're taking people to their spaceship." Sarah Jane Smith told The Doctor.

"It's not just Dalek Caan." Martha said.

"It's Donna!" Silvia yelled.

"That's my girl." Wilf said, excitedly.

"Surrendered." Jack said.

"Sarah Jane. Who's that boy? That must be Torchwood. Oh, they're brilliant. Look at you all, you clever people." The Doctor said smiling.

"That's Martha." Donna said.

Then Donna got a puzzled look on her face. "Where's Susan?"

"Um, not available at the moment." Jack said tensely.

"She would be if you didn't yell at her." Sarah Jane said crossly, folding her arms and giving him a stern look.

"Doctor, it's me, I came back." Rose said, touching the screen. I held her free hand and squeezed it.

"It's like an outer space Facebook." Donna said.

"Everyone except Rose." The Doctor said sadly.

The laptop goes blank. "Oh." The Doctor said.

"We've lost them." We heard Donna say.

"No, no, no, no, no. There's another signal coming through. There's someone else out there. Hello? Can you hear me? Rose?"

"Your voice is different, and yet its arrogance is unchanged." Davros said.

I stiffened.

"No. But he's dead." Sarah gasped.

"Welcome to my new Empire Doctor. It is only fitting that you should bear witness to the resurrection and the triumph of Davros, lord and creator of the Dalek race."
