Really sorry for late update, been working most weekends and today has been my first day off. Sorry again.
"Three minutes until detonation," the voice rang out throughout the hospital, no matter where you went there was no way to escape it. People screamed as they frantically ran through the corridors, nurses fled with orderlies in tow, some actually stopped to help some of the patients out of the room while others left them there. Thinking that they were just mental patients no one would miss them. It was interesting that people's true colours show when there is an immediate threat to their life, when life flashes in front of them how people deal with it.
Dean sprinted past these people, he shouted at them to get out and knocked on any door he passed to get the occupants attention. To him everyone in this place deserved a chance to live and he was going to do everything he could to make sure they got out, that they were saved. He knew that this was a test set by the demon to see what he would do and he wasn't going to disappoint. Beside him Sam matched his stride step by step, he too was forcing people to make their way to the exit and he hoped that Castiel was making leeway as well. Father Rufus followed behind, he was there to usher people and advise them that God was on their side no matter what even through the terrorist attack as they were claiming it to be.
The trio had made it to the third floor in two minutes which for their standards was fast. This floor was mostly empty according to Rufus, it was where they housed the patients they deemed to be the most aggressive and challenged. If the demon was holding John anywhere the boys guessed it would be here, the most secure and guarded ward.
As soon as the doors slammed behind them Dean could sense a presence in the room at the far right. He slowed down to a walk and turned his head towards Sam slowly gesturing towards the end of the corridor. His lover nodded and fell into a step behind him pulling out his gun at the same time. Cautiously Dean pulled his blade out silently and wrapped his right hand around the hilt though the weapon was still partially concealed just in case it was a civilian or something. They made their way towards the room, opening all the doors along the way and freeing the three patients that Rufus declared were kept up here.
Dean came to a stop outside of the room, he could feel multiple warding's covering the inside wall and his angel side trembled at one that was designed to keep his powers at bay. He pulled his blade out completely safe in the knowledge that at least his human side was a hunter. He placed his right hand on the door and nodded towards Sam who moved so that he was standing at the angel' side. Rufus fell back his eyes locked onto the door and there was a sense of apprehension about him. Silently Dean mouthed three, two…one…
He yanked the door open and allowed the hunter to step in first following close behind. His eyes scanned the room and his gaze fixated on a small form huddled underneath a weak metal frame that must have been his bed. Covering the walls were several different symbols and wards, each designed to keep out a certain entity, be it angels, demons, ghosts…you name it. It was like a hunter's haven and Dean could tell that by the looks of his lover's face he hadn't seen half of these before. Knowing they didn't have time to admire the scenery he took a step closer to the form. He could hear the person muttering to themselves as they began to rock back and forth.
"Kevin!" Rufus called out pushing his way out of the room and falling at the man's side. He cupped Kevin's cheeks and forced his head to look up at him. "Thank you Lord," he smiled wrapped an arm around the prophet's shoulders. "Come on son we have to get you out of here." With those words Rufus slowly pushed himself to his feet forcing the man to stand alongside him, the father supporting most of his weight.
"Out…" Kevin mumbled as the pair pushed their way out of the room. "Out…out…have to…out…" his wild eyes roamed around the room before they settled on Dean. They softened and a sad smile crossed his lips giving the impression that maybe there was more of his sanity intact than they had previously thought. "Angel run…he want angel…no angel go out…" his arms stretched out towards Dean and Rufus attempted to restrain his wild limbs to get them out of the room. "He kill angel…" he added. "He kill angel…angel…no more…" his right hand slapped at the father's and he broke free of Rufus' grip as he fell the floor by Dean's feet once more. "Run angel…run…he hurt…he kill…no more…roof…roof…roof," he sobbed starting to rock.
Dean knelt down and wrapped his own arm around Kevin, he allowed some of his grace to flow through into the other man and he was rewarded with the prophet's shoulders loosening. His eyes became clearer and his ramblings stopped. He stared at the angel with a sad understanding and he pushed himself to his feet with Dean following suit, his arm still around the prophet. "You need to get out of here Dean," Kevin said his voice clear and precise with no signs of his usual broken language. "You can't face him, he is too strong. He will not stop until you and everyone you love has suffered…God has warned me…"
"Then God should know that I can't let him get away with this," Dean replied starting to walk towards the corridor with his lover and the Father hot on his heels, both staring at him in awe.
"Roof," Kevin added his eyes becoming glassy once more. "On roof," he mumbled and his lips continued to move while no sound came out. He pulled away from Dean's grip and walked towards Rufus deciding to use the man as a crutch.
"Get him out of here," Dean demanded his eyes looked towards the ceiling and he could almost feel the evil radiating through the plaster. He felt Rufus falter, his expression looked unsure and his gaze flicked from Dean to Sam and back again. Dean moved his attention back to the man he faked a smile and hoped that it was enough to assure the man.
"Two minutes till detonation," the voice called out.
"Go Father," Sam pitched in. "Get Kevin somewhere safe."
Slowly Rufus nodded tightening his grip on the man practically hanging off of him. "You boy's best get out of here," he added looking at them both before reaching into his pocket and pulling out a card of some sort. He handed it to Sam with a smile on his face. "If you ever need God's guidance," he added nodding at them once as he turned on his heels and started to make the run for safety.
Dean watched Sam pocket the card and silently as a pair they ran through the doors and to the fire exit door where they knew the stairs to the roof would be. Without hesitating Dean used his power to force the door off of its hinges and began to run up the stairs. At the top he done the same to the other door. They stumbled out into the sunlight.
…
Dean peered down at the street and was greeted with the sight of about half a dozen army Humvees blocking the entrance to the hospital. People were pouring out of the doors while there seemed to be a gathering crowd on the hill in the distance. There had to be at least two hundred people standing there out of harm's way. He let out a breath, Castiel had done it. He looked around for the angel but he was nowhere to be seen, he just hoped that he had made it out alright.
"Well done Dean," Alastair's voice called out.
Dean turned his attention back to the roof and standing near the edge was the demon, he held a rusty looking blade in his hands and at his feet was a puddle of blood. His arm was wrapped around John's middle and he held the blade to his throat. John was on his knees, his eyes were black and his face was swollen, there were shallow cuts littering his skin and his shirt was torn. Fresh blood dripped from his chest but it was clear from the hard look in the man's eyes that no matter what was done to him he was still staying strong. His hands were bound behind his back and blood covered his dog tags but despite all this Dean couldn't help but feel relief at seeing the elder man, it had been a while.
"I didn't think you could save so many…well done…a father would be proud…" Alastair joked pressing the knife in so that a droplet of blood ran down John's neck.
"Let Dad go," Sam growled out.
Alastair's head snapped towards him almost like he had forgotten the younger Winchester existed. His eyes glistened and a twisted laugh erupted out of his chest. His free hand waved towards the pair while the hand holding the knife remained strong. "Sammy boy, I'm surprised to see you, I thought for sure Dean would force you to leave…"
"Where he goes I go," Sam replied his whole body tense and Dean could tell that it was taking a lot for his lover to stay strong, all he wanted to do was bring the man into his arms and never let him go. Shield him from the world but he knew he couldn't. For one their father was staring at them and as far as he knew they were still brothers and secondly Sam was a hunter…there was no stopping a hunter once they got a whiff of a hunt, let alone a Winchester.
"You Winchesters are one big family unit aren't you," Alastair mocked his free hand outstretching towards Sam, his brow furrowed and black bled into his eyes. His arm tensed and it was clear he was trying to move the younger Winchester to no avail. His eyes widened in surprise.
Dean stood next to his lover, his feet were planted firmly apart and his eyes glowed emerald green, gold filled his pupils and his wings stretched out behind him. The tips glistened as gold flecks ran through them, his blade was held in his right hand while his left was scrunched into a fist against his side. His will was focused on repelling the force of the demon, there was no way he was going to risk his lover being thrown off of the roof. He could second guess the way the demon wanted to play this as soon as Kevin had uttered the words roof. It was obvious and it was the same tactic they always used. His lips were curled in a smirk and he titled his head to the side. "Your mojo not working?" he taunted feeling the demon's annoyance.
"Nice party trick," Alastair quipped letting his hand drop to his side. "You forget one thing," he laughed taking a step back so that his heel was now teetering on the edge of the building, forcing John back at the same time. "Uhuh," he warned watching the boys attempt to take a step towards them. "You move I jump…I will survive…John…not so much," he tutted.
"What do you want?" Dean asked stifling the urge to run over there and yank his father away from the demonic bastard, he had no idea if he would be quick enough and he didn't want to take that chance. "What have we ever done to you?" he added hearing the voice start to count down the final minute before the bomb blew them to pieces and it wouldn't even matter how close to the edge the demon was with their father.
"You have no idea do you son," the demon laughed his head shaking. "How hard I have searched for you when I was told that she had hid you from me. She tried her best but she must have known that there was nothing I wouldn't do to get at you. I even broke a prophet to find you." He paused to note the Winchester's shared confused expression. "There I find you with this pathetic excuse for a man…how he dares to call himself a father I have no idea…you treat him with respect and it sickens me how much you would do for these pathetic creatures when they aren't even your flesh and blood!"
"Dean's a Winchester!" John growled to which he was punched in the gut.
"NO HE'S NOT!" Alastair screamed his spit coating the elder Winchester. "YOU ARE NOT HIS FATHER! YOU DIDN'T BRING HIM INTO THIS WORLD…THAT BITCH STOLE HIM AWAY!"
Dean's eyes widened as the demon's words settled into his soul. It was all starting to make sense, the messages, and the warnings, why Castiel didn't want him to be around the demon. His mother had warned him…why he wanted her dead…why it had all come down to him taking John because he was the one playing at Dean's father, the demon was jealous…In this one day he had come face to face with both of his biological parents, one an angel and the other a demon…boy was he fucked up.
"Dude if you wanted a DNA test why didn't you ask?" he joked knowing that if he didn't he would risk falling apart and his family needed him to be strong. There was no doubt in his mind, no matter what happened, where he came from the Winchesters would always be his family.
"Dean?" Sam questioned his eyes wide.
"I'm a bit too old to have Daddy issues," Dean declared taking a subtle step forward, his eyes locked onto John's for a brief second before flicking back to the demons. "I don't care who you are," he added risking another step. "You're a demon."
"I was human," Alastair added one of his feet hovering off of the ground causing the angel to stop in his tracks. "The angels found me and tortured me, they didn't take me defiling an angel well. They near killed me if he hadn't have found me and made me into this. Come with me my son, together we can rule hell, we can take heaven and earth too. I have spent my life looking for you and I won't let you go…" he leaned down so that his lips were at John's ear. "All we need to do is get rid of these two, the last two links to this awful existence and then we can be free."
"You let them go and I will go with you," Dean answered taking another step forward, he could hear Sam and John start to protest. "Promise their safety and I will go," he added lowering his blade to show that he was no threat.
"This has to be done, we can do it together, let's free you of your burden to this world," Alastair replied moving to the side of John though his knife never moved. "This has to be done, I have seen what you can do and I can show you so much more, that darkness inside of you is not a hindrance it is a gift and I can show you how to nurture it, there is so much more to your power that I believe you could even rival Lucifer."
"Let them go first," Dean added taking another step closer, his heart was beating wildly in his chest and it was taking all of his self-control to not look at either Sam or John knowing that he wouldn't have the strength to continue if he did. He didn't want to see their hurt or their disappointment, he knew he had to do this, and there was no other way to make sure they were safe. "Let them go…Dad…" he added stifling the repulsion at using that word towards the demon.
"No…this has to be done…" the demon declared.
"I said I would go with you!" Dean shouted holding the blade up once more. "Let him go!" he added his voice booming throughout the atmosphere as his wings stretched out completely behind him adding strength to his trembling form. "You don't have to do this!"
"I'm no fool Dean, I know you would do anything to save them I won't risk them coming to find us or you running off to them. I am older than you could possibly imagine, time in hell is different but we don't age. Either we kill them or the bomb does."
Alastair pressed the blade tighter against John's neck and soon a thin line of blood began to snake its way down his chest joining the growing puddle on the floor in front of his knees. The elder hunter didn't flinch or attempt to move, his eyes locked onto Dean's and there was an apology there, for everything that he had ever done.
"NO!" Dean shouted holding his free hand out and the knife flew from the demon's grasp and off of the edge of the roof.
"INSOLENT CHILD!" Alastair roared grasping hold of the scruff of John's coat and forcing the man onto his feet.
"TEN!" the woman's voice called out in the distance, it was too late they had run out of time.
Alastair turned his head towards the ground below and a huge smile spread from ear to ear. He turned back to Winchesters and his happy expression turned into shock as a gunshot roared out into the atmosphere. He looked down at the blossoming patch of blood where his heart was. His eyes peered up at Sam who was holding out the precious Colt, the end of the gun still smoking. "Can't be," he murmured his grip on John loosened, who fell into Dean's waiting arms.
Orange light began to dance along his veins and he gave the family unit one last look. "My boy," he whispered as his body convulsed and he lost his footing falling off of the edge of the building. The Winchester's didn't even need to look as they heard the splat along with the shocked gasps of the crowd below.
"FIVE!" the woman yelled.
"Dean…" John started to say.
"No time," the angel murmured his eyes darting around trying to find some way they could escape. Behind him his wings flexed and an idea started to form. Without thinking or stopping he reached forward and grabbed Sam's hand while wrapping his other one around John's middle.
"THREE!"
Dean drew in a deep breath and nodded towards the edge of the building. His legs moved forwards with a wide eyed fearful Sam and a determined John in tow he reached the edge and continued.
His foot left the safety of the ground as the building behind him was engulfed in a giant flame…
