Chapter Thirty Seven

Totomaru`s Past, The son of the Samurai

Juvia and I went back to Oak Town and by the time we`ve arrived into my house, it was already nighttime and Mr. Uzumaki seems to have already gone off to bed. The two of us made our way up toward the bedroom and as I was approaching my door I noticed that it wasn`t locked and a pair of angry voices were coming from the crack.

"…Don't give a damn what you think," the first voice yelled, "You should be grateful that I didn`t skin your ass for entering without knocking."

"Look at whose talking," the second one yelled, "You`re the one who sneak into a girl`s house through her window like a pervert."

"How the hell that makes me a pervert when she is the one who said I can come over anytime I want?"

I let out a sigh. I recognize these two voices perfectly.

Gajeel, and Totomaru.

What are these two idiots doing in my house arguing at the top of their voices? They`re lucky Mr. Uzumaki is a heavy sleeper or I`ll be the one who is getting an earful from him about the ruckus. I threw the door open and found the two said men glaring at each other both of their fists clenched looking ready to fight inside my house.

"Stop this argument this instant," I yelled.

The two guys in the room turned their attention toward me looking surprised at my appearance. They seem to just realize that I was in the room.

"Hey, Eve when did you get here?" Totomaru asked.

"Just now," I told him, "Now…what in the seven levels of hell are you two arguing about this late at night?"

"I wanted to talk to you but this bastard wouldn't say anything," Totomaru said glancing at Gajeel.

"I told you Eve didn't say where she was going," Gajeel snapped back at him his eyes narrowing with anger, "But you started to act as if I committed a damn crime."

"You probably broke inside her home like a creepy pervert," the Fire wizard told him.

"Alright," Gajeel said his hands glowing green as he start to gather his magic energy.

Seeing the disaster that was about to happen, I quickly stepped in between the duo.

"Not in my house Gajeel," I told him.

The Dragon Slayer growled.

"He is asking for one you know," he said.

"Gajeel I don't want you to destroy my house…along with several other houses," I told him, "Remember, the guild isn`t going to be paying for the damages anymore so we have to be careful about this."

The young man sighed before making his way toward the couch and throwing himself upon it. Glad that this disaster was adverted I turned toward Totomaru who was standing in the corner with both of his hands crossed across his chest.

"Say, where have you been for the past week?" I asked him.

"I went home."

I blinked.

"Home?"

"Yeah, my family`s place," Totomaru continued, "Turns out…my dad still holds a grudge about me leaving the place when I was still a kid."

I stared at him surprised.

"You ran away from home?"

Totomaru shrugged his shoulders.

"Father didn't want me to learn magic actually," he said, "But I didn`t want to stay as the second son of the Samurai family any longer."

"Samurai…?" Juvia whispered talking for the first time since we`ve arrived into my house, "Juvia didn't believe they still existed."

Totomaru chuckled.

"Yeah, we`re a dying breed," he said.

I looked from one to another, completely confused.

"I didn`t think they were Samurai in Fiore," I told him.

"They used to be more of them," Totomaru told me, "But that was back when magic was considerably feared and the wizards oppressed. Times had considerably changed since the Black Wizard Zeref time and people don`t fear magic anymore. My father, however, is still old fashioned and he had basically casted me out of the family."

"He renounced you?" Juvia said, surprised.

"He can`t do that," I told him, "He is your father."

"He is the Head of the family," Totomaru told me with a light shrug, "he has the power to do so."

I scowled.

"No,"

Totomaru glanced at me, surprised.

"What do you mean no?"

"No Father should turn their backs against their son," I told him, "No matter what."

Totomaru looked at me, his surprise still etched upon his face.

"Eve…what are you planning?"

"I`m going to help you," I told him, glancing at the young man in front of me.

"Help?"

"Isn`t that why you came here?" I asked him, "To ask me for my help."

Totomaru chuckled softly.

"Eve…you really are quite a girl," he said, "But yes…that is why I came here."

I smiled beneath my mask.

"I guess we`re going on an adventure…come to think of it, I have never met a samurai before."

"What do you mean you`ve never met one?" Totomaru asked, "You`re looking at one."

I chuckled.

"Well, you`re more of a wizard than a samurai Totomaru."

Totomaru`s shoulder slumped.

"Now you`re just making fun of me Eve," he said.

I put a hand on his shoulder.

"Don't worry Totomaru," I told him, "We`re going to make your father take you in again, after all, family is family."

Totomaru decided to spent the night here, much to Gajeel`s dismay and the two boys had to sleep in the living room while me and Juvia sleep in my room. The Dragon Slayer complained a lot about the sleeping arrangement but when I made a threat about him sleeping in the streets, he calmed down enough and simply went to bed.

I let out a yawn, stepping out of my bathroom with sleeping clothes on and joined Juvia in my room. The girl had her blue hair falling around her face and was dressed in light blue sleeping undergarment. She was looking through some books that I had brought over the years.

"You`re a Zekua Melon fan,"

"He writes good books." I told her.

The guy was no J.K. Rowling but the man sure had a talent to be a writer. It was a shame he had died long ago, but I`m sure that he had made peace with himself in his passing.

"Why do you want to help him Eve?" Juvia asked.

"Totomaru is one of the first people I befriended when I first joined Phantom," I told her, "I always kind of looked up to him through the years and like that, I got the idea of how it would be like to have an elder sibling."

I took a seat on the bed beside her.

"I can`t explain it really well," I told her, "I just want to do everything to make sure he is okay and has a good relationship with his father."

"Juvia thinks that you are a good person," the water wizard said.

I smiled at her.

"Thanks."
We both took a side of the bed, and slowly let sleep come.

"Eve…"

"What is it?"

"…You never did tell Juvia who you are in love with?"

"Why do you want to know?"

"Juvia just want to know."

I chuckled.

"Just go to sleep Juvia," I told her, "Maybe I`ll tell you in the morning."

"Goodnight then.

"Night."

The next day, after waking up and getting something to eat, the four of us made our way toward the train station to get to Totomaru`s home place.

"I don't get why I have to come along?" Gajeel asked having both of his arms behind his head.

"You need the exercise," I told him, "And c`mon, don't tell me you aren`t a little bit excited to see some real samurai."

"I think the only one who is excited about meeting people who waves swords around is you Eve," the Dragon Slayer said.

"You`re a mood killer you know that Gajeel."

The man simply chuckled.

"Samurai don't wave swords around you metalhead," Totomaru told him, "Our swords are an extension of ourselves and our art…"

"It is still sword waving to me," Gajeel abruptly interrupted.

Juvia stifled a light giggle and I shook my head. I can see some light bulge on the side of Totomaru`s head and I knew he was getting pissed off.

"Where are we going anyway?" I asked, hoping to distract the samurai from Gajeel.

"Waas Forest," Totomaru answered, "It`s in the Northern Regions of Fiore…my family had lived in these parts for generations."

"What is it like?" I asked him.

"They have a lot of trees considering how close the forest is," Totomaru told me with a light shrug, "My family`s compound is located on the western side of it. It`s peaceful, quiet and well, it`s a great place to live a peaceful life."

"I guess peaceful just wasn`t you eh?"

"Yeah," Totomaru said, "Magic was the thing that fascinated me and I had the talent for it so I went and did it…of course Father didn't see it that way."

An expression of sadness crossed his face at that.

"I never understood why he was so against it," he said, "Magic is a part of our lives now…most of the things that are created have some magic within it. I simply don't understand it."

"You didn`t talk about it?"

"I tried," Totomaru said, "We just ended up arguing about it and I left and joined Phantom a few years after."

"Then we`ll convince him," I told him.

"I hope so."

The road toward Totomaru`s home took the entire day so by the time we reached Waas Forest, it was already past eight o`clock at night. The entire place was covered in darkness as we walked through the trees of the forest. It was oddly quiet there safe for the sound of a few animals echoing across the area.

Then the trees sprung apart giving way toward a large wall in the middle of the compound. It has a large symbol upon the front of the large wooden door, the same one that Totomaru had upon his sword and his clothes. I stared up at the large wall in front of us, taken aback by it. It was well taken care of from the look of it, showing little sign of aging.

"They must have repainted it during the week," Totomaru noticed.

"Who goes there?" a voice called.

A figure had appeared on top of the wall and in the dark it was hard to see who it was but I can see the bow and arrow that were aimed straight toward us.

"Kazama it`s Totomaru," the Fire wizard said.

"Totomaru…," the voice repeated, "You are no longer welcome here. Lord Ishimaru had banished you from this family."

Totomaru looked down.

"Totomaru is part of this family," I yelled, "This place is his home so open up."

"There is no place for a dishonored member like him," Kazama answered, "You know of nothing stranger and keep out of our business. Turn back now or we will open fire."

"We can bust the door down," Gajeel suggested, "Not like arrows is going to be a problem."

"Kazama, I need to speak to my Father," Totomaru yelled back at the man on top of the wall.

"Turn back Totomaru," Kazama yelled, "You have no more business here."

"Stop being a jack-ass and open the damn door," I yelled.

But there was no answer.

"That`s it," I growled, "Gajeel, we`re bashing it down."

"Gihihihi, now you`re talking," The Iron Dragon Slayer said.

"You can`t just do something like that," Totomaru said, "It`s a very, very bad idea."

"You want to speak to your dad right?" I told him, "Then force him to speak to you…Show him that you can become defiant in your own right. If you keep cowering in front of him…he will never see you as a man…only as a child."

Totomaru stayed quiet as he stared at me, surprised.

"Juvia still thinks it is a bad idea," the water wizard spoke out.

"That`s why we're doing it Juvia," I told her, "It`s because it is a bad idea and soon enough, a bad idea will become a good one."

Gajeel and I placed ourselves in front of the large double door.

"Let`s go Gajeel on three…One…Two…Three!"

"Iron Dragon Roar."

"Heaven`s Feather Gatling Gun."

The double door were blasted apart along with part of the walls, clattering the inside of the compound as screams and yells echoed around us as smokes blew around us and soon when they dissipated, a group of samurai where standing right across us, all of them staring at us in disbelief at what had just happened.

Then an alarm started to echo around the compound and then all of the samurai charged toward us. They were dressed in robes with their swords ready to stab us. Gajeel charged straight up toward them.

"Iron Dragon Sword," he yelled.

The ground exploded outward as he slammed the large chainsaw like sword on the ground throwing the group away from him and then I summoned out my feathers as more the samurai came at me.

"Heaven`s Feather Festival,"

The Feathers exploded knocking them backward and the two of us continued to tear through the group of samurai coming straight at us and from the corner of my eyes, I noticed Juvia blasting whoever attacked her with large waves of water and Totomaru was blocking and taking nearby people down with his sword.

"Arrows Ready,"

I turned toward the voice noticing the archers holding their bows, aiming them straight toward us and I raised both of my hands.

"FIRE,"

"Heaven`s Feather Shield,"

The large shield appeared and I heard the arrows hit it like the clattering of metal against a wall. I smirked to myself at what I was doing and heard someone coming from behind me causing me to glance at it.

A samurai raised his blade and charged at my turned back but was suddenly taken into a WaterLock spell trapping him inside.

"Thanks Juvia," I told her.

"No problem Eve," the Water wizard said, sending a light smile in my direction.

I turned my attention forward again and dispersed the feathers of the shield and spend them in a large spiral, forming a large tornado made out of feathers and I can hear the samurai clamoring in shock and surprise at what I was doing.

"Heaven`s Feather Grand Carnival,"

The explosions shook the area as a number of the places got destroyed from the blast and most of the samurai were knocked out from the attack.

"W…What kind of devil is she?"

"S…She took out our men with just a single blast…,"

"Is this how powerful wizards are?"

"WHAT IS THE MEANING OF THIS," a voice thundered.

All of our attention was turned toward the new arrival. He had long white hair with a dark bear. He was dressed in formal robes with an angry look upon his features as he stared down toward us.

"Lord Ishimaru," one of the samurai said bowing.

"Father," Totomaru said, causing me to glance at him.

A mini-arc before the Tower of Heaven one...now, Eve is facing Samurai of Fiore and Totomaru`s past...what could be unvealed?
