A life for a life
…...
One week later...
Across the Narrow Sea and in the large city of Meeren, Daenerys Targaryen sits upon her throne, listening to the pleas of men and women for more food or political reassurance. As the last man leaves, she sighs, "How many today?" Missandei stepped forward, "Two hundred and forty, your grace." The Queen rolled her eyes and stood, "Fifty less than yesterday, so I suppose I am doing something right." Missandei giggled and bowed her head as Daenerys walked past her, walking towards Ser Jorah, "Meet me in my chambers, Jorah, I wish to speak to you." He bowed his head and followed her down the steps and out of the room, always remaining faithfully behind her three steps.
As they entered, Daenerys gestured to the wine, "Help yourself. It is fresh and sweet." Jorah put up his hand, "No, thank you, Khaleesi." Her smile was small but sweet, "Then come to me and look outside." Jorah walked forward and onto the balcony next to her, looking down to see hundreds of thousands of soldiers in lines or practicing. Jorah was shocked to see such a thing and he looked to his right and at his Queen,
"They are ready?"
She nodded with a smile on her face, "Of course. While you have been busy with Daario, I have been busy ordering them to ready to leave." Jorah's shocked face made her laugh aloud, "Come now! I thought you would have-"
"When do we leave?"
Daenerys looked out and whispered, "First light. We will go to Kings Landing and take what is mine. I am finally ready and they will not know what is coming. Is Drogon chained with the others?" He nodded, "Yes, and all three are eager to fly again." She smiled at that, "Ready yourself, Ser Jorah, we leave for war tomorrow."
That night, Dany sat on her balcony, watching orders be given on her behalf to ready her soldiers for the short walk to the sea. It would take nearly a month or two to travel by boat, but she had her ships are the ready and so were her soldiers.
She would be the Queen she was meant to be.
…...
"I have to stop."
It was the early morning hours and Sansa swayed back and forth on top of her horse as they made their way south. Gregor looked back and growled, "You will stay on that horse until I say we can stop." The guard next to her looked at her pale face and saw her clutching her stomach, "Ser, I think she is ill." Gregor turned and saw a pale Sansa swaying and chuckled, "Stop putting on a show, girl. I've traveled with men who were sick with disease. You ain't sick."
His words fell on deaf ears and suddenly Sansa stopped her horse, making those behind her stop their horses and watch as she jumped down and run into the bushes. Gregor stopped and dismounted when he heard her retching behind the brush and trees and made his way to her. He grabbed her arm and pulled her back, seeing she had emptied her stomach of all that she ate that morning. With a sigh he mumbled to her, "Do you feel better?"
Sansa shook her head, "I am tired and I feel weak. We need to rest." Gregor nodded and yelled out, "We will rest for an hour and then keep going!" The guards dismounted and he walked Sansa to the base of a tree, "Sit there and don't move." She waited, her head resting against the tree before he returned with the same man who helped heal her wrists. He crouched in front of her and touched her face, "No fever and she is not sweating. We need to find a village and get her to a Maester or a healer of some kind." She tried to protest, but Gregor was already speaking, "It is only another week to Kings Landing if not less! Can she not last?" Both looked down at Sansa and she looked up at them,
"She needs to be checked to make sure she is not carrying something contagious. The map claims we are close to a small village about five miles west from here."
He left Gregor and Sansa alone and she mumbled, "Perhaps you can just leave me here." He chuckled, "You're an idiot child, aren't you?" Sansa looked at him and frowned, "I am not a child. Besides, this is all your fault. I wouldn't be ill right now if you hadn't taken me." Gregor sat down next to her remained quiet for a moment, "How did you know about Megena?" He had not mentioned it to her in fear of hearing how she found out, but curiosity had finally gotten the better of him. Sansa smiled, "Sandor told me about her and you. He told me everything."
She heard him growling in anger, but she continued, "I know about what happened and I will not speak of it any further. Ah!" Gregor jumped when she yelled out and saw her clutching her stomach, "We need to get you out of here." Sansa nodded slowly, her stomach doing twists from when she was sick as he helped her up. Her horse was brought to her and she was helped up by two guards as Gregor mounted his own horse. He rode to her, "Stay near me. I don't want you riding off." Sansa rolled her eyes,
"And where shall I go? I've been kidnapped, remember?"
Gregor nodded and they began their trek to the village where Sansa was about to receive shocking and terrifying news.
…...
Cersei looked up at her handmaiden, "Have the Queen brought to me." The young girl nodded and quickly left the room to get the Queen. As she was gone, Cersei took a glass from the table and poured wine into it, watching the bright red liquid pour in so gracefully. She smiled to herself as she pulled the small glass vial from her pocket and opened its top. Honestly, the old man that ran the Apothecary was so easy to kill. Cersei carefully poured the contents into the wine glass, watching the poison slowly swirl and change the color of the wine only slightly before turning back to its dangerous red. A knock on the door made her look up and she quickly pocketed the empty vial before calling out, "Enter."
Margaery walked in and smiled at Cersei, "Cersei, you summoned me?" She smiled sweetly, her stage and flower crown of gold sitting upon her head and her dress of blue and gold shining from the sun coming through the open balcony doors. Cersei gestured to the empty seat next to her, "Sit, your grace. I called for you on friendly terms and only wish to speak to my new daughter." Margaery smiled and walked in, sitting next to Cersei,
"I hope you do not mind, I have already poured the wine."
Margaery shook her head, "I do not mind. Tell me what is on your mind." The two spoke about noting particular for the first thirty minutes and finally, Cersei watched as Margaery took a sip of the wine and watched her flinch, "I can never get used to wine! It is so bitter to me." Cersei chuckled, "Believe me, my dear, once you have children, you will want it." Margaery sighed,
"I plan on consummating the marriage with Tommen in two nights. It will be his name day then and he will be turning ten and four." Cersei nodded, "Good. I have come to like you, Margaery. I would hate to see my father kick you off the throne." She raised her glass, "To the Queen."
The Queen smiled and raised her glass before drinking the rest of her wine. Later, as she left, Cersei smiled and whispered to herself, "Now we wait."
…...
It was high noon when Gregor and the others came upon a small village. Sansa was feeling a bit better, but she was tired and would sway on the horse. Gregor would look at her and push her arm, waking her up and keeping her from falling from the horses saddle. He looked at her and the others, "Stay here." He trotted forward on his large horse and talked to an older man while Sansa stay there, watching and trying to keep her eyes open. He rode back shortly after and looked at her, "There is a young woman here that can help you. I'll have a guard bring you to her while I wait outside."
Sansa nodded slowly and was helped down from the horse and brought to a small home where a young woman not much older than her was standing. The woman was about ten and eight with long black hair and tan skin; a foreigner. Sansa looked at her and saw a smile on her face, "Hello, my name is Alexia. I heard you were feeling ill?"
With a nod, the guards walked inside the small home with Alexia and Sansa was instructed to sit on a table in the corner of the room. Alexia looked at the guards and then Sansa, "This will be a private look over-"
"You can wait outside."
They looked at Sansa and nodded before leaving. Alexia smiled, "You are heavily protected." Sansa chuckled, "Yes, well, I only travel with the best."
"You travel with the Mountain."
They made eyes contact and Sansa spoke softly, "Please, just do what you have to do." Alexia nodded silently and in the next ten minutes, she looked over Sansa. She checked her eyes, temperature, throat, and ultimately did not find anything wrong. She sighed, "I can't find a thing wrong with you." She stared at Sansa for a moment more and whispered, "I hope you don't mind, but I have to ask you the same questions I ask all of the other girls I see." Sansa nodded,
"Go on."
Alexia had her lay back on the table before she slowly sat down in the chair next to her, "How long have you been sick?" Sansa shrugged as she stared at the ceiling, "Just this morning. I felt tired, sick, but then I was hungry right after." Alexia nodded, coming to understand that Sansa may not have been sick at all. She stood from her seat and placed her hands above her stomach, "Do you mind?" Sansa shook her head and the girl gently pushed in her belly to feel for something; anything. She stopped and looked back at her, "Have your breasts been tender? Hurt?"
Sansa thought for a moment, "I-I think the other day they were sore, but I thought it was from-" She thought it was from being pushed to the ground by Gregor when she angered him and she landed on stomach. Alexia smiled, "I must ask this, are you a maiden?" Sansa blushed and looked at her, but she knew she could speak freely, "No, I am not. I-I gave myself to my betrothed nearly a month ago." Sansa was afraid of being thought of as a whore, but Alexia nodded, "I need to do a check, but I will need to touch you in a private place. It will help me decide if what I think is wrong is truly what is wrong."
After a hesitant stare, Sansa nodded and lifted her legs, allowing the healer to disappear under her skirts. As she touched her, Sansa closed her eyes and bit her lip until finally it was over. Alexia came back up, patted Sansa on the knee and chuckled, "Well, I know what is wrong with you." She walked over to a wash basin and washed her hands, "Other than the fact you have not bathed in weeks, it seems, your first time did it for you." Sansa sat up on the table and frowned, "What do you mean?"
Alexia turned and smiled, "You are with child."
The room was silent as Sansa stared at her, "How-I mean- I know how- but it was my first time! I can't be-"
"You can be and you are. It happens to many fertile and young girls like yourself. It happened to me, in fact, and I had a healthy girl. You are indeed with child and no doubt are a month along already. Congratulations."
She turned around and began to crush different herbs as Sansa walked over, "I-You don't understand- I am not in the position to have a child. The Mountain is not my betrothed and I don't know when I will see him again." She looked at the table and saw a satchel laid out as Alexia was adding herbs into vials and liquids as well. She looked at Sansa and whispered, "I will tell you something very important. It doesn't matter where you are or who you are with. The only thing that does matter is the child you are carrying in your belly. You are going to be a mother and that is the one thing you have to protect before and after it is born." She stuffed different herbs, vials, cloths, and other things into the satchel and handed it to Sansa,
"Keep this with you. Use the herbs to make tea when you can, it will help when you feel ill and they are good for the baby. Read the labels on the vials for the others."
A knock on the door interrupted them and the two guards entered, "My Lady, Ser Gregor is waiting." Sansa clutched the bag to her chest and she looked at Alexia, "Thank you." Alexia nodded and watched as Sansa was led from the room.
Gregor looked down at her, "Well? Feel better?" Sansa nodded and placed the bag strap over her head, "Yes, she said I just ate something that didn't agree with me." Gregor chuckled, "Stupid girl. Now, mount your horse. We move on. There is a storm coming and we will have to stop for shelter in an hour or so." She nodded and mounted her horse, following Gregor as they rode away from the small village. Over and over, she kept thinking, you are carrying a child. Sandor's child.
…...
Later that night, Margaery sat in her shared chambers with Tommen, brushing her long hair as she looked into the vanity. Tommen sat in the bed, reading letters his grandfather gave him from neighboring houses. He smiled, "Perhaps tomorrow we shall horseback ride?" Margaery looked at him, "I would love that." A frown sat on her face as she stopped brushing her hair and Tommen stopped reading, "What is wrong?" She shook her head, "I am not feeling well. Excuse me, my King."
She stood from her seat and walked into their wash room, rushing to the basin to splash cold water upon her face before she vomited into the bowl. She opened her eyes and cried out as she saw blood floating in the water before she felt faint. Her hands grasped at the table and she stumbled before calling out, "Tommen!" Her voice was weak, but he still heard it, but by the time he entered the room, Margaery was on the floor, blood coming from the corner of her mouth, her eyes open.
She was dead.
