Ch 37

"Your here." Tauriel said weakly smiling at Kili as Legolas frowned. "Maggie, your safe." She said reaching out for Maggie who knelt at her side. "Did Kili tell you?"

"Yes and he stayed by my side."

"She's going to be beautiful, I saw how happy she was." Tauriel said a tear drifting down her cheek.

"Where are your healers?" Kili gritted.

"She refused to be healed." Legolas said coldly.

"Tauriel, no… Thorin is dying and…." Maggie trailed off tears falling from her eyes.

"You'll be a great queen and Fili will be a good king." Maggie stood and took a few steps back wiping at her cheeks.

"I'm sure your husband is happy to here the news. Dwarves have a special respect for females who can bear children." Legolas said looking up towards the mountain. Maggie felt Fili calling for her.

"Kili, I think…Thorin…" Kili looked towards Tauriel who nodded.

"Go, I'll be here." She said softly.

"I'll stay with her." Legolas said going to her side.

"We will be back soon. Kili, we're going to go the quick route."

"But, Fili-" Maggie didn't let him answer she trapped her arms around him and they disappeared.

"I do not think I will ever get used to that." Tauriel said as Legolas frowned.

"Rest, Tauriel." He said as she nodded.

Maggie and Kili appeared a few feet from the crowd who was gathered around Thorin. The dwarves spotted them right away and they were brought to the front of the crowd. Liz was clinging onto Bilbo who had tears rolling down his cheeks. Kili went to his uncle's side and Maggie stood next to Fili who grabbed her hand. Everyone was watching Thorin who was now propped up. Gandalf stood by him.

"It is my will that my heir and nephew Fili son of Hagin and Dis take my position as King under the mountain." Gandalf nodded.

"I want all of my company to be compensated, I want them to help rebuild Erebor and Dale."

"Uncle, we will see it done." Thorin nodded.

"I was not always the best leader but I had our people's interest in my heart. If we all valued food and home above all else the world would be a better place."

"Thorin, if we have a son then he will carry your name." Maggie said as Thorin smiled.

"I am honored." The group bowed their head as Thorin took his last few breathes. Maggie watched as his spirit joined Thor, Thrain, Hagin, and Darla who were waiting for him.

"Maggie, take care of my nephews and your sister." Thorin said before the ghosts disappeared.

"He's gone." Maggie said softly as Oin began making arrangements to move Thorin's body into the mountain. Kili looked to be in shock and Fili went to comfort his brother. Maggie walked over to Liz who almost collapsed into her arms. A few moments later Kili went down the mountain to see Tauriel as Dain and Balin took Fili's attention.

"I can help-"

"Lassie, go rest. You and your sister should go into the mountain and get some sleep." Oin said as Maggie slowly nodded. Fili gave her a small smile as she and Liz slowly made their way to the entrance.

"I can't believe you didn't tell me." Liz said softly.

"I was in denial, Lizzie, don't pick a fight right now. Why don't we both shower and I'll come to your room?"

"Ok." Liz said walking into her room.

Maggie walked down the hall and tossed her bloody and torn clothes on the ground and bathed quickly. She found a pair of warm pajamas and headed back to Lizzie's room. Her sister was still in the shower. Maggie sat crossed legged on the bed and rested a hand on her lower stomach and smiled.

"Maggie, we are so proud of you." Her grandfather said resting a hand on her shoulder.

"Thanks, Pa."

"Your sister is going to need you more then ever just like your brother in law. That poor lad." Maggie nodded.

"What's going on?"

"She's holding on for him. They have some time."

"Let me know when it's almost time. I want to go say goodbye." Her grandfather disappeared as Lizzie walked into the room drying her hair.

"What?"

"Pa is going to keep an eye on Tauriel."

"She- she's…." Lizzie trailed off in shock.

"Yes, she took an arrow meant for me and it looked like she had other wounds. Legolas said she refused to be healed."

"Poor Kili." Lizzie said her lip quivering.

"Lizzie, it's ok. Cry as much as you want to." Maggie said as Lizzie laid down sobbing into her sister's side. Maggie rubbed her sisters back and wiped at her own cheeks.

"Your really going to name your baby after Thorin?" Maggie nodded.

"He was so happy when he heard. I'm glad you two made amends." Lizzie said tiredly.

"Want me to give you something to sleep?" Liz nodded as Maggie put her hands next to her sisters head and murmured a spell. Within moments Lizzie was sound asleep and would have a dreamless sleep for hours. Maggie made her way back to her room and dressed in a warm pair of pants and top then made her way back outside. Dwarves from the Iron Hills were carrying the wounded inside, most of the wounds were not serious. Maggie walked until she found Fili who was finishing up meeting with Dain, Bard, and Thranduil.

"How is your sister?"

"Asleep, she will be out for at least 12 hours. She was very upset."

"But she's ok?"

"Yes, she was safely in Erebor the whole time. How are your children?"

"Shaken up but safe."

"That's good, if your girls want maybe they can come spend some time with Lizzie and I." Bard smiled.

"I think they would like that once everything is settled." Maggie smiled.

"How is Tauriel?" She asked as Thranduil frowned.

"She will be gone before morning." Maggie bit her lip.

"Let's go see her." Fili said putting an arm around his wife.

"Are you sure your not too busy?"

"Everything is settled for now. I know that you consider Tauriel a friend and I need to be there for Kili." The pair walked in silence till they reached Tauriel and Kili. She was much paler then before and was hardly moving. Kili took a step back as Maggie knelt at her side brushing some hair off her face.

"This seems so unfair, we became friends quickly and your being taken away-"

"Shh… please. Be strong for her. She will be lovely just like you." Tauriel whispered as Maggie gripped her hand.

"Are you sure-"

"Nothing can be done now. It's almost time." Maggie motioned for Kili who hurried back to her side.

"Kili, let's sing that song for Tauriel. I'll play and we'll sing together." Kili nodded as a guitar appeared in Maggie's hand. Kili did his best to follow along with Maggie's singing as tears flowed down Tauriel's cheeks.

"Tauriel, I-I love you." Kili said his voice cracking at the end of the song.

"I love you too." She said with her last breath. Kili broke down and Fili sat on the ground next to him. Maggie looked up to see Legolas and Thranduil standing close by. Fili had to pull Kili away as some soldier's moved Tauriel's body.

It took several days before all the dead were buried and the orcs and wargs were burnt. The surviving elves, men, and dwarves worked together to quickly build some buildings in Dale so that the people of Laketown could survive the winter. After Thorin's funeral Bilbo, Beorn, and Gandalf departed. Gandalf crowed Fili in a small ceremony in front of the company, Beorn, Bard, and Thranduil. A larger coronation would be held when the dwarves from the Blue Mountains arrived. As much as Fili wanted Maggie to spend her days resting she insisted that she was able to do everything she did before they knew she was pregnant. Liz confirmed that was common where they were from so under Oin's watchful eye Maggie spent an hour in the morning helping in Dale and an hour in the afternoon in Erebor. The rest of the time she did rest and battled morning sickness which had gotten worse every morning when she woke up. Kili was not doing well, he was withdrawn and spent most of his time alone. Fili visited him often and Ori was in charge of bringing him his meals. Liz stopped in and sat with him while he picked at his food.

Balin was impressed with Maggie's developments and announced she would no longer need daily lessons. Gloin continued to work with her twice a week as did Balin. Many men from the Iron Hills were to remain in Erebor to help with the rebuilding. Kona asked to remain as Maggie's hand in waiting and Dain agreed that would be a good fit. The young dwarf and Maggie had gotten along well and Kona found Maggie's stubbornness to be funny. Since Fili was crowned he and Maggie had moved into the Royal wing as did Lizzie and Kili. Balin, Dwalin, and Gloin moved into the advisors wing while the others remained in their original rooms.

Two months after the battle Dain, his son, a little less then half his troops returned to the Iron Hills. Thranduil and the elves of Mirkwood had also returned home since Dale had several large communal homes that would be used for the winter. Maggie continued to visit until the first frost when she nearly fell and Oin ordered her to remain in Erebor. Bard, Bain, Sigrid, and Tilda visited Erebor at least twice a week. Lizzie was in better spirits with the two young girls who loved it when Liz styled their hair or when Maggie created fancy clothes for them to wear.
