I Own Nothing Twilight
Carlisle POV
There had been no greater urge in all of my time on this earth to run and seek out my only human child and comfort her. The way I heard my daughters agonized scream, a plea of words of which she sought her greatest comfort, and I would answer that plea. There was no longer a choice for me to sit here and wait for the day to come and sit idly by, hoping and praying for the day when Bella would call with happy news that she wanted to see us, after everything that had been done to her. No, the time for waiting was over. Her plea was heard, and I would answer.
I had a short discussion with Trevor and Garrett, over the still running Skype session, after someone had turned the camera right side up.
"It appears that your daughter calls for you," Trevor sighed, seeming not quite agreeable to the new situation. "I think that Bella could use some more time trying to sort out her feelings, but it appears that her emotional state has warranted your attention."
"Of course I will answers my daughters cry," I hissed, feeling insulted, by his words.
"What makes this situation any different than all of the other pleas she has cried out?" Trevor demanded, his eyebrows rose in question."Why now? Why not the very same day she asked you to bring Edward home?"
"Everyone makes mistakes, Trevor." I replied calmly, but on the inside I was filled with anger and guilt, bitterness and grief. It took a great deal of effort not to lash out at him. But knowing Bella could walk back into the room at any time, was the only reason I was keeping my cool. "My family and I will be there by noon Saturday."
"I look forward to meeting you and your family in two days time, drive safely." Trevor added before the screen on our end of the computer went dark.
My wife, my beautiful Esme had a look so hopeful upon her beautiful face. I could do nothing but stare and drink in her never-ending beauty and grace. My smile magnified ten fold when I saw her beaming smile reflected back at me.
"We leave tonight then?" She whispered in what sounded like disbelief, but the undercurrent of hope sparked in her soft feminine voice.
"Yes, I am going to call Henry at the office, and tell him that I need some of my banked Vacation time, and finally out it to good use." I told her not missing a beat. "Everyone go pack for at least two weeks." In the blink of an eye our children had fled to there respective rooms to start packing, while my wife and I embraced one another fiercely. "Start packing for me?" I asked quietly. "I am going to my office to call Henry." With a quick peck to my lips my wife had bolted to our room to start packing for our two week journey.
I took the steps to my home office at a normal human pace. I was still a little shaken by Bella's plea and the short but intense conversation with Bella's therapist Trevor. I used my office phone instead of using my mobile phone, as I did not want Henry to get the wrong idea. I did not want him to think I was already on the road someplace, hoping for the time off. It seemed sill to me at fist when I noticed that all of the office phones in the hospital had call display as a built in feature, but I guess it came in handy some of the time.
Thankfully his line only rang twice before he answered.
"This is Doctor Henry Heart speaking, how can I help you?"
"Henry, it's Carlisle Cullen, how are you?"
"Carlisle! I am splendid. What can I do for you?"
"I was hoping that I could book some of my holiday time, enough for two weeks."
"Of course, of course," Henry sounded like he was in a good mood, which was always the best time to catch him, when needed such short time favours. "When would you like me book them for you?"
"I am hoping my short notice does not come at a bad time, but today would be wonderful."
"Today?"
"My daughter, Bella..."
"Say no more Carlisle, I know what being a parent is all about and it is clear to me that if you are asking me this, she needs you. I know her sudden departure was hard on you and your family. You have put in more than enough hours at this hospital, and banked enough overtime to book off an eternity of vacation time," He joked, chuckling.
I could not but help but chuckle along with him, seeming an eternity is exactly the kind of time I had. I thanked him, and Henry just huffed telling me once again that my sudden need for time off wasn't a bother or a hindrance on the schedule. After ending my call with Henry in a good note, my mind began to swirl around all of the different scenarios that could lead to our reunion with Bella.
Some time between loosing myself in my thoughts and making my way to mine and Esme's bedroom, I had ended up in Bella's bedroom. Moving to sit on her bed, I relived some of the best memories I had ever created with one of the most important persons in my life.
When Bella was only three years old she woke in the night terrified by the thunderstorm looming over us, the thunder crashing in the sky shaking the whole house with its untamed force. Bella had burst into tears crying out for me, frightened that the house was going to fall to pieces around us. How she couldn't seem to get close enough to me, when the house shook. I stayed by her side that night, lulling her into a deep sleep, with a promise to protect her while she slept soundly. A few years later when Bella was five and Emmett had let her watch some stupid horror movie about monsters sleeping under children's beds. Bella had nightmares for three weeks straight and was terrified of sleeping alone in her room. When Bella was two weeks shy of turning six I found Bella dancing around her room with her teddy bear. Her imagination taking her to new heights, as she had dubbed her teddy bear, 'Sir Fuzzy Pants' dressed to the nines with the clothes that Alice had made for her teddy, and Bella wearing a pink frilly play up dress that yet again Alice had made for Bella to play make-believe in.
I could also remember with perfect clarity the day Bella decided that she no longer wanted to be a little princess, and become a big girl—of course that was the day that she had learned that Edward had left home—and grew into a new little person right before my very eyes. Looking back I can see how Edward's departure caused Bella to loose a part of her childhood innocence. She never again played dress up, or had little tea parties with her dolls or sisters or brothers. Bella had given up taking bubble baths at night and decided she wanted to shower like a 'big girl.' Bella had given up so much of her childhood that day. From that day forward Bella had been consumed with doing everything in her power to bring Edward back to her...to us. Bella learned the art of bargaining quite quickly, and how far some threats would go. Bella would make an excellent lawyer or negotiator for any type of situation, really.
Taking one last look around Bella's room, my eyes came across two things that I think would make this time closer to her easier. Spying Bella's jewellery box, it made me think of how she had strung together the keys to Edward's bedroom, piano room and Piano on a black silk ribbon and stashed it away. Secondly I saw her stationary kit—her jewellery box and stationary set were never far apart from one another—and thought that maybe the means of communication between Edward and Bella could be the same way she had been trying to contact him for years.
Running down the stairs at inhuman speed, I was greeted by my family and a smiling Alice with a bright pink silk ribbon in her hand. Taking the ribbon from her outstretched hand, giving her, a quick peck to the cheek before running to Bella's room and threading her bedroom key to it, making sure to lock the door behind me. Next I ran to Bella's piano room and closed the lid to hide the black and ivory keys, locking it, before threading it onto the ribbon next to the key to her room, and then quickly I threaded the key to the room itself before threading that key as well.
"The same rules apply," I said gravely to my awaiting family in the foyer. "No one enters either of Bella's room, just as she had not given us permission to go into Edward's rooms." Everyone agreed to my terms and before I knew it we were off to see Bella for the first time since she had fled our home, early a year ago.
A/N: I am so sorry this update took me so long! I have been so crazy busy and hardly home to get any work done. Thankfully with nothing to do today I was easily swept into my zone and began typing. If there are any spelling mistakes and what not, I'm sorry, as I kinda just started typing and didn't stop. I can not tell you when I will update again, but I am hoping it will be soon.
