'Niko, it's… Is it really you?'
'Yeah, it's me.'
Caterina had hastily crawled over to her younger brother who lay on the floor, partially propped up against a wall. He had been shot in the stomach twice by Agent Jones and was oozing blood at an alarming rate. Caterina instantly put her hands over his wounds and pushed down, applying pressure where she could which made Niko wince in pain.
'I thought you were…'
'Dead. I thought you were dead too sis.' Niko frowned at his sister.
'But why the hell are you here? Why the hell were you Jerry?' Caterina stuttered on the verge of tears.
'They found out who I was about a year ago. Took me in to custody.' Niko spluttered. 'Did tests on me. Kept me here as collateral against you.'
'But why the Jerry thing?'
'They, they didn't want you to know it was me. They made me act and dress like somebody else, made me dye my hair, wear fake glasses. They couldn't let me leave after knowing what went on here…' Niko stopped talking as he had started to cough, globules of blood splattered on to his shirt and the floor as he did. Caterina kept her hands on his stomach as firmly as she could. 'So they, kept me here and put… put me to work. If I had let you know it was me, they would have killed us both.'
'I still can't believe it's you.' Caterina sobbed. 'How could I not know my own brother?'
'It's been, a long long time sis.' Niko remarked. 'You've barely… changed.'
'You look so grown up.' Cat smiled at Niko.
'You remind me of mum, you look like her.' Niko replied.
The siblings smiled at each other for a moment before Caterina had started crying; her tears burned her eyes and warmed her cheeks as they ran down. Niko smiled at his big sister.
'I knew you'd come back.' He whispered to her as he smiled.
'I just wish I came back sooner Niko.' Cat said to her little brother. 'I might have been able to stop you from becoming Swiss cheese.'
'I would… wouldn't be in this position now if, if it wasn't for Agent Ass-kiss over there!' Niko managed to spit out those last words as he aimed them at Agent Jones who was still on the floor, trying to get up but was failing miserably as his hands along with his gun were still encased in ice. Caterina shushed her brother as she didn't want him over exerting himself.
'Niko we gotta get you to a hospital.' Cat said as she looked him over, she could tell he was still bleeding heavily underneath her hands which she didn't dare move. The bullets had probably shredded through his organs. Cat looked around over near the door to find that Delsin had disappeared.
'Where did? Where did Delsin go?' She panicked.
'I didn't, see him… leave.' Niko mumbled.
'Shit.' Caterina cursed. 'I need him here! I need to get you out of here now!' She bawled. The tears had started flowing again as she screeched out her words.
'Cat, I think we… I think we both know I'm not, leaving her alive.' Niko spluttered.
Both brother and sister twitched as they heard an explosion coming from somewhere in the building. It sounded distant but the loud noise was getting closer.
'That, must be him.' Niko said.
He was right. Delsin came running back in to the room dragging Doctor Maynard along with him who was sporting a cut lip and a bloody nose. Delsin threw the Doctor down on the floor and leered over him as he attempted to wipe the blood from his face with his lab coat sleeve. The Doctor just snarled at Delsin.
'Delsin! Delsin help me please! I've seen you heal people I know what you can do!' Caterina cried at him. He instantly ran over and crouched down beside Caterina and her brother. Niko soon reached out his hand and grabbed Delsin's with all the strength he could muster to do so.
'Thank you Delsin. For saving my sister.'
'No problem man.' Delsin replied as he squeezed Niko's hand back.
'Niko shush. We gotta get you outta here now.' Caterina demanded he stopped talking. Her face fell as he just shook his head at her.
'I won't live sis. I'm too… far, gone for Delsin to hel…' Niko whispered.
'You have to Niko. YOU HAVE TO!' Cat shouted at him. 'I'm your sister; I can't let you die like this! NIKO!'
Niko's eyes had started to roll back in his head. Caterina moved one of her hands from his stomach and slapped his face sharply a few times to bring him round. His head bobbed around for a moment before he focused his eyes again on his big sister.
'My left p…pocket.' Niko wheezed. 'The phone… last video file. I have a, plan. For here an and the… doc.'
'Niko stay with me STAY WITH ME NIKO! NIKO!'
Niko's entire body had slumped down; he had taken his last shallow breath. Caterina wasn't having any of it; she slapped him sharply across the face a few times in attempt to bring him round again but it wasn't working. She called his name loudly and spoke to him in Finnish, calling him "veli*" every so often. Delsin could barely understand what she was saying to him. She had started to howl as she spoke to Niko in a mixture of English and Finnish. Delsin's heart was breaking for her, she had just found her brother after seven long years of not seeing him only to find out that he had been right under her nose for the past year; and the D.U.P. were the ones behind it all. Caterina's little brother had just died in her arms after a brief reunion and now she was emitting an other-worldly noise. She heaved and sobbed as she rested her face and palms on her brother in a weak, flaccid embrace as she attempted to clutch on to the bloody ruin of his shirt.
Delsin was silent as he watched Caterina squirm and sob on the floor next to her brother. He didn't know what to do or what to say to her, nor did he have any idea on how to console her after all of this. Something had caught his eye though, it was Doctor Maynard trying to drag Agent Jones out of the room as silently and quickly as he could, considering Agent Jones still had his hands in a ball of ice about the size of a beach-ball. Delsin ran over and smoke dashed in to the path of the Doctor, stopping him from making an escape. The Doctor soon stopped and dropped Agent Jones, earning an audible "ow" from the suited man. Delsin ushered them back in to the room and stood on guard next to the door, making sure they couldn't attempt another getaway.
'Oh shut up you idiot we wouldn't even be in this mess if you could shoot straight.' Doctor Maynard hissed at Agent Jones. As if on cue, Caterina's sobbing and howling had instantly ceased as she had heard what the Doctor had said. She groggily stood up from Niko's body and slowly turned around to face Doctor Maynard. She had blood all over her hands and across her face and blood had also soaked in to the white t-shirt she was wearing. To look at her you would have thought that she had just beaten someone to death with her bare hands from all the blood that covered her skin and clothes. Delsin could see it on her face though, she looked like she was about to beat the Doctor and Agent Jones in to their graves. Caterina didn't move as she stared at them both. A few seconds later and she crouched back down next to her brother's body and reached in to his left pocket, finding the phone he had been talking about. She pressed some buttons to make the screen come alive and quickly found the folder where videos were stored. She tapped on the last video to be taken and it started to play on the screen. Cat turned the volume down a bit but only though she could hear it. She watched the phone's screen intently for a minute or so before she stood up and turned back to face the Doctor and Agent Jones.
'You should be thankful to Niko. He says I should let you both live.' Cat growled at the two men. The was an audible sigh of relief coming from both of them especially after seeing the look on Caterina's face moments ago. Then for some reason, she had started to grin and looked rather sinister whilst she was doing so.
'But don't think you're getting away with all of this. Oh no. Niko has a plan for you both, especially you Doctor Maynard and everyone else who was in on the scheme here.' Cat cackled. 'You got thirty seconds to get out of here before I go against his wishes and straight up murder you both.'
Doctor Maynard and Agent Jones didn't need telling twice. Maynard had ran off as fast as his feet could carry him, leaving Agent Jones behind; struggling to run away with the huge ball of ice weighing him down. He slipped and slided out of the door as he screamed after the Doctor to come back and help him. Delsin let the two men go and stepped over to Caterina, still not too sure about what he could say to her. She seemed to have her head screwed back on though and had stopped crying. Caterina was the one to start talking.
'Niko said, in his video to torch this place.' She said to Delsin. 'He had been secretly gathering information and evidence on the Institute and the people who worked here. He said "justice will be served" soon.'
'Is that what we're doing now?' Delsin asked Cat. 'I can ask Fetch and Eugene to clear us a path outside?'
'Do it.' Cat answered simply. 'See if they can find any gas or fuel tanks outside. That will help us a lot more.'
Delsin watched as Cat looked back at the body of her little brother. She gazed at him for a brief moment before she had her game face on again.
