Ricky rubbed a hand over her face, realising what she'd done. What if the one silly mistake cost her Olivia? She couldn't lose her baby, not now, not after everything she'd been through. Turning back, to head towards the house, Ricky walked back inside, to see Olivia still in her basket, she picked her up.
"I'm sorry, Liv, " She whispered.
"What are you sorry for?" Brax questioned.
Ricky stared. "How did you get in?"
"Doesn't matter. What are you sorry for?"
"I left her, Brax"
"She's a baby, Ricky!" Brax shouted. "A newborn who has just come out of special care, you can't go running off. "
"I know, she was just crying."
"That's no excuse!" Brax shouted.
"I know, ok. "
"No you don't. "
"I can't do it, "
Looking at Olivia who was now fast asleep, Ricky felt ashamed.
"What have I done, Brax"
Brax shrugged, this was one problem he wasn't going to be able to help her out of. He took his phone out of his pocket.
"What are you doing?"
"I'm going to have to ring social services"
Ricky stared at him. "You can't"
"I can and I will. "
"Brax, it won't happen again, I swear"
"I'm sorry Ricky, but I'm going to have to"
and she was forced to listen as Brax dialled the number. "It's done " Brax spoke as the call ended.
Ricky let out a sob, burying her face in her hands, as Brax put his arm around her, rubbing her back.
