Chapter thirty-seven – Reversed roles
Nina slipped into her favorite sweater which Eric didn't use anymore, because now it was hers. She claimed it and not with his approval, but she couldn't care less. Tying her hair up in a messy bun she met Eric in the living room who looked ready to murder someone. She knew he probably did want to murder someone, rebels most likely. Instead of greeting him she headed straight to the kitchen, she needed her one cup of coffee which she could have and she knew Eric could use one as well. Pouring them their coffee she put some sugar and milk in hers and handed Eric his black coffee. He looked up from his tablet and thanked her.
"Needed that." He muttered as he took a sip from the hot liquid.
"I knew you did." She took a seat next to him, "So who is pissing you off?"
"Your brother." He spat which made her hold her breath.
"What did he do now?"
Eric glared at her, "The fucker thinks he can order me to come meet him in Candor. I do not take orders from anyone." The last part he hissed through his teeth which made her press her lips together to make sure she wouldn't smile, "Like hell I'm going to Candor."
She patted him on the knee which made him cry out in pain, "Like you could go to Candor. You can't take the car nor train, so make him come meet you here."
"Bitch." He hissed, clenching his jaw as he was breathing through the pain, "Why are you being so violet with me these days?"
"I'm not, I'm being my usual self. You recovering from being shot is what makes you impatient."
Eric leaned back against his seat, "Yeah that and the no sex for months, probably."
"You noticed that?"
He looked at her as if she lost her mind, "Seriously? You're asking me if I noticed we haven't been having sex?" He snorted, "Nina, at least had sex two times a day."
"I know." She whispered, clutching her cup of coffee to let the heat comfort her, "I'm missing it too, but I don't know, I miss it but I don't feel like it either."
"That baby better be grateful." He muttered, making Nina chuckle, "Having a baby in Dauntless is no walk in the park and combine that with us not being able to have sex now and after the baby is born, I'm just saying that kid better be damn grateful."
"I'm sure you'll keep him in line."
"Him?" Eric asked, making her choke in her coffee, "You've betrayed me and asked of Katie to tell you the sex of our baby." He stated. "I'm disappointed, Nina."
"I'm sorry." She apologized, trying to scoot away to create a bit more distance between them, "I couldn't leave it at that. I seriously had to know the sex of our baby. You know, so we know how to decorate the baby room and what clothes to buy."
"I can't believe you did that behind my back."
Nina flashed him a smile which made him smile back, "You're not really angry. Why?" She narrowed her eyes on him when she noticed the playful gleam in his stormy eyes, "You asked her as well, didn't you? You already knew what the sex of our baby was."
"Maybe I did."
"I know you well enough to know when you're messing with me."
He raised an eyebrow at her, "Do you now?"
She placed her mug down on the coffee table and crawled on top of him, straddling his lap, making sure she stayed away from his knee. He placed his hands on her hips, and firmly gripped her. Leaning in she brushed her lips against his, making sure not to kiss him because she knew how much he hated it when she teased him. She pulled away when he wanted to capture her lips for a kiss and bit his lower lip instead, making him squeeze her hips tightly.
"Of course I know you well." She leaned in and kissed the corner of his mouth, "I think after what we've been through I know you better than anyone."
The way his lips curled up to a smirk made her heart skip a beat, it was his mischievous smirk which always told her he was up to no good.
"That goes both ways, Nina."
"I never claimed that you're not the one who knows me best. Here I thought me always siding with you and not William proved that already."
It was quick but she saw appreciation flash through his eyes. He knew very well she always chose him above William. William was the one who practically raised her after their parents died, so she always assumed it said enough about her feelings toward Eric. Her eyes widened when Eric suddenly grabbed her wrist and placed a gentle kiss on her wrist where his name was tattooed on. He didn't use words, but that action said more than a thousand words ever could. Leaning in Nina pressed her lips firmly against his, not being able to keep up with her teasing games anymore. Returning her demanding kiss, Eric placed his hands on her hips again as he held her in place. She locked eyes with him, feelings his hands trail under his sweater which she was wearing while he reached for her panties. Without hesitation he slipped the flimsy material down her thighs. Without him asking Nina raised her hips so he could undo his pants and pull it down a little. She smiled, leaning in once he was freed from the constrictions of his pants and kissed him again, gripping the sides of his shirt tightly since she couldn't place her hands on his shoulders like she usually did. Eric smiled as well while they shared a few teasing kisses. Nina reached for his erection and slipped it inside of her, inhaling sharply at the feel of him inside of her. It had been a while and she was definitely not used to it. Eric noticing this kept still as he let her get used to him again. He gently brushed her bare skin under his sweater she was wearing and waited for her to move first. When she did they kept up a slow place, just wanting to feel each other rather than to chase that toe curling orgasm. Nina reached for him, cupping his face in her hands as she looked him in the eyes.
"I love you." She whispered, closing her eyes when she felt the intensity of her orgasm reaching her.
Eric kept moving her to make leaning back against the couch as he chased his own orgasm. He was in no rush though which made another slow orgasm build within Nina who without intending to grabbed tightly on Eric's shoulder.
"Fuck!"
Opening her eyes she pressed her lips together realizing she hurt Eric, "Sorry."
Eric tightened his grip on her hips and moved her a lot faster, making her smirk realizing he was punishing her but with pleasure. She couldn't care less. It made her reach her second orgasm faster which also set him off. He held her firmly in place while he tried to catch his breathing. Nina cupped his face in her hands again and captured his lips for another kiss.
"Love you too."
Eric met up with Four in the control room, heading straight for his platform. Four looked up from his tablet and nodded at him in a greeting.
"You might want to see this." He handed his tablet to Eric who took it and glanced at the information presented to him.
"They're staying in the abounded warehouses near the pier." He handed Four his tablet back, "Gather patrol team one and the tactical team, we're not moving in without a decent plan this time. We can't afford to lose more men."
"Got it." Four glanced at the tablet which Eric handed him back, "What about Candor?"
"We're taking care of this ourselves. I'll deal with Candor myself."
"It might ruffle their feathers."
"These rebels took out one of our own, like hell I'm going to let Candor handle it."
"I agree with you on this one, but I'm obligated to tell you about the consequences."
Eric moved away from Four, heading to the exit to start setting things in motion to take care of the situation fast. Heading to his office, he ignored the pain of straining his knee more than he should. It would all be over tonight, so he just had to push through. He knew Nina would be furious when he'd go home to gear up, she'd probably kill him herself, but he couldn't stay at the base while his soldiers took care of the situation. He'd be beside them, leading them while they got their revenge.
Nina reached for Eric's wrist, gripping it tightly as he was about to walk past her to leave the apartment. She didn't understand how a man so bright could act so stupid. She tightened her grip on him, to make sure he wouldn't move. She knew if he wanted to he could rip out of her hold and leave. He was showing her some respect by staying completely still.
"You're not leaving."
Eric clenched his fist, "I'll be back before you know it."
"Eric, you're still recovering from the last attack. Don't be foolish and charge in. You promised me you'd be more careful. In your state you're not supposed to lead the attack."
He pulled away from her, "Just because you're my wife doesn't mean you can tell me what I can or cannot do, Nina."
Those words hurt more than he'd ever realize, she couldn't wallow in self-pity though. If he wanted to risk his life out there even though he always preached to her to take care of her own life she'd let him do whatever he wanted. She'd hold her tongue and stay back, just like he wanted of her.
"Fine, do whatever you want."
"Nina."
She shook her head when he turned around and approached her, "If you want to risk your life like that than go ahead be my guest, but don't expect any support from me."
Eric held her gaze for a while, trying to see if she was serious or not. Right now she couldn't be more serious though. She knew he was playing a dangerous game with his life. He wasn't quick enough in the state he was in neither could he shoot a gun properly due to his shoulder. If she had stated she'd be going out on the field because she needed to avenge their soldiers he'd throw a fit. Yet he expected of her to keep quiet and support him, no questions asked.
"I need to go."
She shrugged a shoulder, "Then go."
He stayed for another minute before he turned around and left the apartment. He shut door loudly behind him, letting out his anger the only way he could right now. She wasn't letting it get to her though. She was pissed herself even though she kept a straight face when she told Eric about her honest feelings. Going to the bedroom she kicked her shoes off and crawled into bed, rolling to her side while she tried not to let her mind wonder to Eric and him being on the field. She was slowly drifting away when loud knocking scared her awake. Letting out a groan she rolled out of bed, which took a lot of effort considering her size. She brushed her hand over her stomach, trying to calm the baby who seemed to think her body was a playfield.
"I already have your father walk all over me, don't you dare do the same." She whispered, smiling when she felt a hard kick.
Strolling to the front door she opened it to reveal Tori who barged in without her consent, making herself at home. She probably felt at home since Eric always sent her when he went out. She rather spend time with Four, but she knew Eric needed him in the control room.
"I need some coffee, how about you?" Tori asked as she walked to the kitchen.
"I already had my cup today, if you could make me some tea I'd be in your debt."
Tori snickered, "You'll regret saying that."
"I probably will."
Nina took a seat on the couch and pulling her feet under her while she watched Tori move around the kitchen with ease. She found everything she needed without any help. It was admirable and at the same time creepy with how comfortable Tori was feeling at their apartment these days.
"Here you go." Tori handed her a steaming cup of tea and took a seat beside her, "What's with the permanent scowl on your face?"
"Eric was being a dick."
"When is he not being a dick?"
"Point well made." Nina smirked, "After getting shot he's supposed to rest and heal up, but he's holding it against me for me not wanting him to go out there when he is in that state."
"Eric never listens. You've tried, but you know, he's the most stubborn person alive."
"It just annoys me knowing that if the roles were reversed he'd strangle me with his bare hands if I told him I'd go out on the field while being in that state of health."
"He was like that when you were recovering from your fall."
"Yes, he was suffocating me."
"But you didn't complain. Much."
"Exactly."
Nina enjoyed Tori's company more than she originally assumed. She had been cranky after the way she left things with Eric, but Tori definitely lightened her mood. They chatted away in the living room which helped keeping Nina's mind away from the fact that her husband was being a jerk who was once again risking his life out there.
