Spiritual (Part I)
"Slow down Kendall!" Jett called from behind me, but I just ignored him as I maneuvered my way through the hallway full of people.
It only took me a couple of minutes to make my way outside, letting out a sigh of relief when I spotted Logan and Carlos making their way to the parking lot.
"Guys! Wait up!" I called out before making my way over to them.
"Hey, what's going on?" Logan asked once I was close enough to hear him, giving me a slightly worried look.
"I have a question." I said, taking a minute to catch my breath before continuing. "Okay. Hypothetically, would it be possible for a darklighter or whitelighter's spirit or ghost to linger after he or she is killed?" I asked, not missing the weird look he was giving me.
"Will someone please tell me what's going on?!" Jett exclaimed, but I continued to ignore him as I anxiously waited for Logan's response.
He seemed to think about it for a few second before responding.
"I've never really heard of anything like that happening before, but I guess it's possible." He said with a shrug before giving me a curious look. "Why?"
"Because, I think that James' father might still be lingering around. Specifically in James' head." I explained, rolling my eyes as the guys stared at me as if I had grown two heads.
"Think about it guys! James has been having random waves of pain in his head, and it started after he killed his father. Plus, he attacked both Dak and Jett. You all know as well as I do that he wouldn't do that if he wasn't being possessed or at least something similar to it." I said, hoping that they would be able to see what I was getting at.
We all stood there in an uncomfortable silence as they pondered over everything before Logan finally spoke up.
"You're right. Besides, that would explain what's been going on with him lately." He said, making me inwardly let out a sigh of relief knowing that he was on my side.
"Where is James anyway?" Carlos asked, glancing around the parking lot in the process.
I looked over to James' usual parking spot, noticing that his car was still there.
"He's gotta be inside the school. His car's still here." I said, a plan already forming in my head as I turned to Jett. "Okay, the guys and I are going to try and figure out how to get James back. Jett, I need you to find James."
"What?!" The actor exclaimed, his eyes widening in the process. "Why me?! Have you forgotten the fact that he's trying to kill me?!" He asked, actually sounding a little scared.
"Okay first, we don't know for sure if he's trying to kill you." I said, hoping that my words gave him some kind of comfort. Although now that I thought about it, I'm pretty sure my words did nothing to help. "Second, it isn't James. It's his father controlling him. Besides, I'm not asking you to fight him. Just see if you can find him and give us a call when you do." I instructed, not missing the hesitant look on his face.
He nodded his head slightly before letting out a sigh.
"I'm so going to regret this." He muttered as he started walking back into the school.
"Alright, let's see what we can find out." I said to Logan and Carlos.
XxX
"I really don't think Google will have the answer to our problem." Logan muttered as Carlos went to work on the computer.
"Well I'm really offended that you don't have more faith in me." Carlos muttered back, keeping his eyes locked on the screen in the process.
I couldn't help but feel a little awkward standing here while the couple argued.
"It's not that I don't have faith in you Carlitos, it's just-" Logan started, but was cut off by Carlos.
"Found it!" He exclaimed proudly as he turned the computer towards us so we could see.
"Wikipedia? Really?" Logan asked incredeously.
"What? Wikipedia never lies!" He replied defensively.
I rolled my eyes as I started reading the article.
"Spirit possession is a term for the belief that animas, demons, extraterrestrials, gods, or spirits can take control of a human body." I read out loud, gaining the pairs attention in the process.
I continued to skim through the article until I came across something.
"Spirits are said to have the ability to go undetected for weeks or even months by retreating deep into its host' subconscious, and are even said to be able to block memories." I read before looking to Logan.
"Okay, even though that is eerily specific, I still don't believe it." He muttered.
"Oh, come on Logie! How much more proof do you need?" Carlos asked, with Logan letting out a sigh of defeat before turning to me.
"Does it say anything about how to get rid of a spirit?" He asked.
I went back to article, skimming through it before I found what I was looking for.
"It is said that the host must expel the spirit for his or her body. This is the only known way to get rid of a spirit."
"Great. So all James has to do is tell is dad to hit the road." Carlos shrugged, but I knew it wouldn't be that simple.
"It's not that simple. I mean, I'm sure that James' dad would take control and jump in before we even got the chance to tell James." Logan said, saying just what I was thinking.
"Right. But…" I said, knowing there was a way to beat James' father at his own game. "We have the upper hand. James' father doesn't know that we know about him so we have the element of suprise. Besides, if James' father ties to jump in, I can get through to James." I explained.
"Are you sure? Are you willing to take that risk?" Logan asked, looking a little hesitant about the plan.
And even though I was a little hesitant about the plan as well, I knew that this was the only way. I also trusted my relationship with James enough to believe that our bond is stronger that the hold that James' father had over him.
"I got through to him once, I can do it again." I said confidently, returning the small smiles that both Logan and Carlos were giving me.
"Well then I guess the only thing left to do is-" Logan started, but was cut off by my phone ringing.
I glanced down at the phone, my heartbeat picking up a little as I saw who it was.
"It's Jett."
XXX
I let out a shaky breath as I walked into the old classroom, one of the only places that I hadn't checked yet. It was also a part of the school nobody went into, mostly because it was rumored that someone died in here so it just basically became a junk room.
I maneuvered my way through the old desk and tables as I wondered how I let Kendall talk me into this, although I guess I did owe to him. I owed it to both him and James to help, especially seeing as how I'm part of the reason they're in this mess. Even if it wasn't intentional.
Knowing that James wasn't in here, I pulled out my phone, dialing Kendall's number in the process. It took a few rings, but he eventually answered.
"Hello?"
"Kendall, I have a bad feeling about this." I said, noticing that there was something off about the room.
"What do you mean? What's going on?" He asked, sounding a little worried.
I was getting ready to answer, but stopped as I heard footsteps. I quickly turned around, immediately spotting James standing in the door way.
"I found James." I said as I stared at James, not missing the cold glare that James was giving me. "I'll call you back." I said before hanging up.
"Hello Jett." James said coldly, eyeing me like a hawk.
I shook my head, trying to remind myself that this wasn't James.
"James… I know you're in there somewhere. You have to fight it." I said sternly, internally patting myself on the back for not letting my voice waver. Not matter how freaking nervous I was right now.
"Sorry Jett. But my son is… not in at the moment." He said, a smile forming on his face. "I hope you like the adjustments I made to the room." He said before taking a couple steps back, closing the door and locking it in the process.
I didn't have time to wonder what he meant by that as I started to get a little lightheaded. I glanced around the room, trying to figure out what was going on, until I noticed the gas coming from the corner.
I couldn't really smell it, but I could tell from the way I was starting to get dizzy that it wasn't anything good.
"Help!" I yelled as I made my way to the door, noticing that James was already gone. Not that that really suprised me.
"Help!" I repeated and I started banging on the door.
I knew that it was useless since nobody hardly ever came into this part of the school, so I settled for ramming into the door. But it didn't budge.
I kept trying a few more times, only getting weaker each time I tried. I tried reaching for my phone, falling to the floor as I felt myself starting to black out.
I tried reaching for my phone one last time, only to let myself succumb to the darkness as I passed out.
Done! So you all were right! James' father is in his head! Well, his spirit. I'm not a huge fan of the last half of this chapter, I guess I just didn't know how to write it. But I hope I did a good job! :)
So what'd you all think? Do you think Jett's going to make it? Do you think Kendall's plan will work and James will be saved? Let me know!
Next chapter should be up this weekend, and if you're reading my other story Untouchable, that will be updated this weekend as well! I'm also working on finishing up the next chapter of Clarity as well as the first chapter of my next story. So if all goes according to plan, there should be about four updates in the course of the next week!
Again, I'd love to hear your thoughts! Until next time!
