Oi, get here you" Beth shouted across the department as she caught sight of Nick and Zoe entering the ED. She was still fuming about her conversation with Zoe yesterday and how Nick had decided that he didn't want to have a baby. Nobody treated her best friend like that, not ever.

"Excuse me?" Nick frowned "Dr Nicholls my office now" He demanded, pointing her in the right direction, his temper raging at the fact Beth had had the nerve to speak to him like that in front of his staff and patients.

"Don't Dr Nicholls me you twat" She shouted back, storming behind him as he led her towards his office, ignoring the glares from other members of staff onlooking their argument.

Zoe trailed behind, grabbing Beth by the arm before they entered, "Beth, drop it" She firmly advised through gritted teeth.

"What has gotten into you?" Nick fumed as they entered his office "you don't ever speak to me like that again, I'm your boss remember Beth"

"Well maybe you shouldn't have gotten my best friend pregnant and fucked her off because you can't handle the responsible parent act" She barked, slamming her hands down on the desk as she glared over at Nick on the other side "You think you're something don't you, you can't just abonden her because you haven't got the balls to face up to reality" She continued to shout, throwing her arms in frustration.

"Beth" Zoe called, trying to prevent her from speaking again. She knew what she was like when she got truly angry, it wasn't pretty. "Beth leave it now"

"If you had spoken to her then you'd know that we've decide to keep the baby" Nick calmly informed her.

"What?" Beth snapped, pausing for a moment as she looked from Nick to Zoe, "But-I- I thought he didn't want it?" She stuttered, turning to Zoe for an answer.

"He does now" Zoe tried not to make eye contact with her, feeling guilty that she hadn't been able to inform her sooner.

"Oh so he can change his mind like that" She sniggered "it's not a Christmas present, you can't return it when you feel like it you know"

"I'm not really sure what this has to do with you anyway" Nick inputted

"it has everything to do with me, I'm practically it's Auntie" She argued "if you hurt her Nick I'm going to personally come and string you up myself, that's a promise not a warning"

"seriously Beth, we're fine" Zoe chuckled at her threats.

"Now can you get back to work please" Nick calmly asked, pointing her in the direction of the door. Considering it was only her second day working in the ED, Beth was still lucky to have a job at all. But then again, being best friends with the boss' girlfriend certainly had it's advantages.

"I'm watching you" She raised an eyebrow as she slid out of the office, her threatening eyes watching Nick's every move as she left.

"I'm so sorry about her" Zoe sighed as the office door finally closed. She wandered over to Nick who was sat on the ledge of his desk, positioning herself between his legs as she rested a hand on the top of his back "she just cares that's all"

"I know" Nick smiled, looping his arms around her waist and pulling her to rest against his thigh "I guess she's part of the deal I get from going out with you" He chuckled, kissing her lightly, "She's going to be watching me like a hawk until this baby arrives isn't she"

"Probably" Zoe laughed "just ignore her, she's all talk anyway.. and I know you could have sacked her then, so thank you" She smiled, cupping the base of his skull as she pulled him down into a kiss "thank you for everything" She mumbled against his lips.

"I love you" He breathed, completing his sentence with a chaste kiss, "Now you really need to get back to work" He instructed, patting her on the bum lightly "I've got so much admin to do" He sighed, sliding off the desk as Zoe headed for the door.

"Don't worry, I'll come and make it bearable for you" She winked, blowing him a kiss as she left the room.
