The pain was spreading like a wildfire and he did his best to keep it to himself. The only problem was that Emily Prentiss was practically a mind reader, or has some profiler powers. She kept glancing at him throughout the ride, and he couldn't figure out what was giving him away. Where was he slipping? He kept his breathing even, his voice was near perfect, and he never winced.
She glanced at him again. It was like an unspoken form of torture. How did she do that? It wasn't fair. He wished he was stuck with Garcia. She wouldn't have noticed. Emily hit a particularly large pot hole and the car jerked adding more pain to Spencer's already pained body. She looked at him again. 'Was she doing this on purpose?' He questioned inside his mind. It felt that way. She was practically hitting every pot-hole on this deserted road. The car jerked one last time and he couldn't take it as everything in him lit on fire and his stomach twisted uncomfortably. She hit another dip, but now he was wondering if he was being hypersensitive to his surroundings.
"Em," Reid said getting her attention. She took one look at him and could tell something wasn't right.
"Reid, you okay," She said with a frown. He looked awfully pale and highly uncomfortable. Reid shook his head slowly. Prentiss felt her heart speed up. She knew something was slightly off about him all night, but he seemed pretty fine.
"I think I'm going to be sick," He admitted trying to take deep breaths. Breathing only added to the pain, but it helped keep the nausea down.
Prentiss had to make a quick decision. Either she can pull over or hit up the closest hotel and keep him there until he feels better.
"How long can you hold it," Prentiss questioned.
"That's not a question I can answer accurately," Spencer said while closing his eyes trying to will everything away. He hated that he had to show weakness, but it progressed to a level where he couldn't ignore it.
Prentiss looked for any signs. Anything that said that they could stop. She refused to have him on the side of the road. It was just too dangerous for that. She sped up, hopefully they were close to something.
Just when she thought they weren't getting lucky, she saw a small sign for a motel and some truck stop. Just what she needed.
"Just a couple of miles, Reid. Okay? Hang in there," She assured. Reid nodded. He didn't trust his voice at this moment. But it annoyed him. It was another setback that he just didn't have the time for. He knew that he would have to suck it up and keep it moving after this stop. Nothing was going to keep him off of the new schedule.
Prentiss was worried about his silence. Sure he probably wasn't in the mood to start speaking given the situation, but the pained expression and beads of sweat had her thinking it was something far worse. She contemplated on just skipping the motel and heading straight for the hospital, but she knows Reid wouldn't agree. He didn't want any type of paper trail that could help anyone follow them.
She exited the interstate as quickly as she could and drove straight for the motel. She quickly parked the car, not caring that it was crooked.
"Wait here, I'll book a room and get you when I have the key," Prentiss said slowly. She didn't want him moving unnecessarily.
"False name," Spencer muttered. Prentiss nodded quickly and grabbed a bag before heading into the hotel. She walked straight to the desk and got the man's attention.
"I need a room," She demanded.
"Do you have a reservation?" He asked tiredly. Prentiss was annoyed. Couldn't anyone do their jobs?
"No, I need a room," Prentiss reinstated.
"How many days?" The man asked as he slowly started typing on the computer.
"One, now can you hurry it up?" Prentiss snapped. This guy was quickly making her lose her patience.
"No need to be rude," The man muttered.
"Well, I'm sorry that you couldn't get a job you love, now hurry please," Prentiss said once again. The man glanced at her with a scowl.
"Name," He started.
"Karla Holds," Prentiss said from the top of her head.
"Okay Ms. Holds, how many people are with you?" He asked.
"One more," Prentiss answered.
"Does it matter what type of room you get?" The man questioned.
"I don't care as long as there's a bed and a bathroom," Prentiss rushed. Could he be any slower?
"Okay, room 302 on the third floor to the right," He said handing her the key.
"Thanks," Prentiss said automatically rushing back outside towards the car. She took one look at Reid and could tell he got even worse. What the hell was going on? He was just fine not too long ago? Well, at least that's what she thought.
She quickly walked to his side and opened the door.
"How you holding up?" She asked him as she quickly undid his seatbelt.
" 'm keepin it togeth'r," Reid mumbled as he got out of the car. Gosh! What did he do to himself?
"Good, Reid. Good. Let's get you to the room," Prentiss said softly. Reid nodded and kept his head down. Prentiss didn't like the sight of that. Now was not the time for Reid to be getting sick or whatever it is that's wrong with him.
Reid felt ground shift from under him, but the logical side of his mid told him that the ground really wasn't moving. It's just his head. He was able to keep his feet steady as Prentiss half-led him to the elevator. She was saying something to him, but it wasn't making its way through. The headache that he's been ignoring for the longest time was in full force and he couldn't ignore it this time. The change in elevation made his stomach flip once more and he swallowed roughly, hoping that it would stall the impending doom.
"We're here, Spencer. Deep breaths," She said soothingly. Spencer nodded slowly and walked into the room behind Prentiss. Automatically she had him sit on the bed. He took deep breaths hoping it would just pass. He hated waiting for something to happen, but then again he hasn't been eating much of anything. Nothing would come up. Prentiss noticed this as well. She walked into the bathroom and saw the disposable cups sitting on the counter. She quickly opened the package and grabbed a cup, automatically filling it with water. She walked back to Spencer and handed him the cup.
"Thanks," Reid said lowly as he stared at the water. He might as well get it over with. He knew it would just elicit the pain even more though. Why couldn't this happen later? He took a deep breath and put the cup to his lips. The minute he swallowed the water, he felt it start working its way back up. He quickly handed her the cup and rushed to the bathroom, effortlessly heaving up the water. Prentiss quickly rushed to his side, gently rubbing his back hoping to make him feel comforted.
She noticed how heavy he was breathing and how tense his muscles were. She was shocked that she didn't notice how much weight he lost as well. He was definitely thinner. How did she not notice this? He flushed the toilet haphazardly and leaned back against the cool wall. Usually he wouldn't allow himself to do such a thing in a place that may not be sterilized, but the pain throughout his torso and shoulders were almost too much even for him to want to get up.
"I'm going to make a quick phone call. I'll be right by the bed. Call me if you need anything," Prentiss said even though she had a feeling he wouldn't be needing much of anything. He nodded slowly and Prentiss automatically got up and took out her phone. She automatically dialed Hotch since she knew Morgan or JJ might be asleep and she really didn't want to worry them.
"Hotchner," Hotch answered fully awake. Prentiss wasn't surprised.
"Hey Hotch," Prentiss said running a hand through her hair.
"Prentiss. What's wrong?" Hotch questioned hearing the worry in her tone.
"Reid. I think he's sick," Prentiss sighed.
"Sick?" She heard Morgan question. Why were they all still there?
"Is everyone there?" Prentiss questioned in surprise.
"Actually we are halfway to Pima, Arizona," JJ answered. "But what's wrong with Spence?" She questioned.
"I don't know. For a while he's been pretty okay. I noticed that something was a little off with him, but I couldn't put my finger on it, and half an hour ago he told me that he was feeling sick. I drove to the closest motel and gave him some water and he threw up. He just finished a couple minutes ago," Prentiss explained.
"That's not good," She heard Rossi mumble.
"I know and I'm worried. He looked like he was in so much pain. I think he's just going to push through it and get back on the road, but I don't want him to hurt himself," Prentiss admitted before frowning. Wait. Why are they coming to Arizona? Reid told them not too.
"Did he have a set time he wanted to meet with whoever he planned on meeting?" Hotch questioned.
"I don't know. I never thought to ask him that. We are a day behind, so I'm guessing he has a time, just not a set day. He probably did that just in case he would be early or late," Prentiss said trying to figure it out. She heard a small moan come from the bathroom and she frowned.
"He's definitely in pain," She muttered more to herself than the team.
"Okay Prentiss first thing's first. Remember when he was admitted to the hospital because the stitches came out and he got really sick?" Hotch questioned.
"Yeah, I remember," Prentiss said wondering where Hotch was going.
"Has he been taking the antibiotics the doctor had prescribed?" Hotch deadpanned and Prentiss froze. She forgot all about that!
"Hold on, let me ask," She said sitting down the phone and walking towards Spencer.
"Hey Spencer," She said quietly kneeling beside him. Reid looked at her dazedly.
"Have you been taking your meds from the doctor in Ohio when they had to fix Dr. Seinfeld's errors?" Prentiss questioned.
"N-no," Spencer answered. "It was left behind the night the gunmen came and when we were tailed," Spencer admitted.
"Okay on a scale of one to ten, how bad does it hurt?" Prentiss questioned.
"Seven, maybe?" Reid shrugged. Prentiss nodded and mentally racked up his scale to about nine. She knew he was downplaying it and that it was worse than what he was admitting too.
"What's worse? What's bothering you the most?" Prentiss questioned. She felt like she needed these answers.
"I can deal with it. I just… I just need the nausea to pass," Reid whispered. Prentiss ran a hand through his hair.
"Come on Spencer, just a little bit of details. Is the pain in your stomach? Chest? Just say where," She soothed. Spencer took a deep breath and mentally ranked where the pain levels were. It started out with his head, then worked its way into his shoulder. The shoulder could be stabilized. However the fire was mainly in his chest, but with the car ride, it was definitely his stomach.
"Stomach," Reid answered.
"Okay, I'll be right back," Prentiss said and he nodded slowly.
Prentiss walked back to the phone and sighed.
"He hasn't been taking them. He said they were left behind when those gunmen came," Prentiss informed. "It's definitely his stomach though. Dr. Seinfeld really did some damage there," She added.
"That son of a bitch," Morgan shouted in the background.
"I thought the other doctor fixed him up though?" JJ questioned.
"You can only push your body so far. Not to mention he didn't rest very long after the surgery. He just got up and started moving," Hotch explained.
"He had to do what he had to do to not end up in jail," Rossi said in slight defense for Reid.
"I understand, but he needs help," Hotch stated.
"He's not going to let me take him to a doctor. He said all he needs is the nausea to pass and he'll be fine. If you haven't noticed, he sort of has high pain management. Hotch what do I do?" She questioned.
"I'll have Garcia find out what medicine the doctor gave him. We can order it and pick it up. Since we will be within the same region we can give it to you. There's a possibility that he didn't leave it behind. It's possible that those gunmen took the meds while they were in his room. He would need them eventually and that's how they will find him," Hotch explained. Prentiss nodded. That made sense. Reid wouldn't just hurt himself like that. He took the meds from the hospital for a reason.
"Okay, do we keep moving or should I try to keep him here," Prentiss questioned.
"Try to keep him in the room. He doesn't need to be out there when he's not at his full strength. Where are you guys?" Rossi asked.
"Okay and we are by Interstate 8. Only about an hour away from Pima. Should I make him eat or should I just wait until he gets the medication. He lost a bit of weight," Prentiss told them.
"Oh my gosh," She heard JJ whisper. "Um, don't make him eat. Just keep him hydrated," JJ answered. "Please don't let him hurt himself," She begged.
"I won't, but he will be upset. He's determined to get to whatever or whoever is over here," Prentiss stated.
"Just tell him two to three hours and then you guys will head back out," Morgan said. It was pretty much true. They should touch down in about two hours and the last hour would be them getting him his medicine. He would suggest that Reid just take it easy for a couple of hours, but that's impossible for someone like Reid.
"Alright," Prentiss sighed. "I'll keep you guys updated."
"Okay, bye," Hotch stated and hung up. Prentiss quickly walked back to Reid. He's been extremely silent and she was extremely worried.
She stepped into the bathroom and he was just staring straight ahead. Definitely in his own world.
"Spencer," She called out to him. He blinked and looked at her.
"What," he said quietly.
"Drink a little more," Prentiss urged gently. He still had beads of sweat on his skin and his eyes were sunken in. Truth be told he looked like hell.
"Couple more minutes," Spencer begged. Prentiss nodded and sat beside him. It'd be better to keep him company.
"How long were you feeling this way?" Prentiss asked wiping the sweat off of his forehead. She wasn't mad at him, but she wished he told her. What if this happened while they were with Rico? Would they take advantage of that? Kyle already told her that Birsha wouldn't mess with Reid directly. Would they be that way too?
"Sick?" Reid questioned.
"Sick, the pain. Just talk to me," Prentiss said gently.
"I was feeling sick when you hit one of those pot-holes. The pain, it started sometime when I woke up?" He said with in slight concentration.
"Why didn't you say anything?" Prentiss wondered aloud.
"I didn't think it mattered as long as I can get what I needed done," Spencer said pressing his hands over his eyes. The brightness was killing him. Prentiss reached over and shut off the light. If it helped him, then she didn't mind at all.
"Thanks," Reid said softly.
"Like I said, I got your back," Prentiss promised. "Now drink," Prentiss said handing him the cup. Spencer made a face, but Prentiss smiled and watched him take another sip. Once again, he felt his body reject the liquid and he threw himself over the toilet. Prentiss started comforting him as she patiently waited for the bout of sickness to lessen.
He flushed the toilet again and leaned back against the cool wall. He hated this.
"You're doing great," Prentiss encouraged. Reid frowned. He didn't feel all that great. Pushing that thought aside, they needed to get moving.
"I think I'm good enough for us to keep going. We are almost there," Reid said calmly.
"We will go when your stomach calms down," Prentiss said softly.
"But-"
"No Reid. I'd rather you be safe than sorry. We are only an hour away. We can see them in the morning," Prentiss stated. Reid nodded slowly, slightly disappointed.
"Come on. Let's get you in bed for now," Prentiss offered. Reid shook his head.
"No, you go. I'll stay here," Reid said staring at his hands. Prentiss wasn't going to leave him on the bathroom floor. She also didn't want him to be uncomfortable on the floor, not to mention the coolness could make him even sicker. She was so conflicted. She didn't want to baby him either.
"I'm not leaving your side and I personally think you shouldn't stay on the floor," Prentiss said. Hopefully he would see things her way and get into the bed.
Reid sighed. He didn't want her to stay on the floor with him. He would've preferred it if she relaxed in the bed or wherever she wanted to go. Not stay on the floor to keep him company. However, he knew her words were true. She really was not going to move without him.
"Alright," He mumbled as he slowly stood up, ignoring the pain in the process. Prentiss automatically stood up as well and stayed close to him. She gently pushed him on the bed again and turned off most of the lights. She looked at the clock. About an hour and thirty minutes left. Reid might be pissed when he finds out that they're here. She was not looking forward to that.
She sat next to him and waited in silence. She still wished he would have said something, but then again his mind has been pretty occupied.
"Lay down," Prentiss urged once again. "I'll be right back," She smiled as she grabbed the key and headed out the door. Spencer sighed before he winced. He needed to get there soon, but at this rate, the timeframe may soon be up. He specifically told them to wait one day before and one day after just in case something were to happen. If he didn't show up, then leave. He's probably dead or something. This was the last day he had and of course his body decided that waiting one more day wasn't good enough.
Reid sighed. He could easily come up with his own solution. Despite how much it would hurt him, it would definitely get him where he needs to be. All he needed was medication for the nausea and something for the pain. He'd be perfectly fine. Reid sat back up and looked towards the desk. The Yellow Book should be there and he could definitely find a local pharmacy.
He carefully stood up and walked towards the desk. He opened the drawers in search of the book and smiled when he found it. Quickly he turned the page to the list of pharmacies. He looked for one that appeared in the worst neighborhoods. Something that he could use to his advantage. He looked at all the addresses and found one that may be good for him. It only seemed to be a good two miles up the highway. He could get there and back.
The door opened and Prentiss walked back in. Spencer closed the book and looked at her innocently.
"What are you up to?" Prentiss questioned.
"Um, I was planning on going to a pharmacist for medicine that would just put an end to the nausea and get us back out on the road," Spencer half lied. He noticed that right hand was shaking, most likely from the thought of getting that narcotic. He easily covered it up with his other hand.
Prentiss nodded slowly, she noticed the slight shake of his hand before he concealed it. She walked closer to him and gently grabbed his right hand. He looked away shamefully.
"Come on, back to the bed," Prentiss stated as she pulled him back towards the bed. She wasn't going to be mad at him. Once an addict, always an addict. She couldn't blame him for having cravings. It's just a part of who he is.
"You're not mad that I lied to you," Spencer stated.
"You would have told me the truth at some point. Either way, it's okay," Prentiss said as she grabbed a water bottle and put it in the microwave. Spencer rose an eyebrow.
"That's a first," He pointed out.
"Unlike Morgan, I'm not going to freak out because you wanted it. He's scared that you will disappear into that world for good. I saw how much you hated it when you were in it. I'm positive that no matter what, you won't cross that line," Prentiss smiled. Spencer only looked away. He really wanted to cross that line, but this time for a whole different reason. It's just that the addiction side came up and supported his decision.
"I'm serious Reid. I do believe you have more control than that," Prentiss said as she took out the water bottle and put two more in. What was she doing?
"Okay," was the only response he could think of. She took out the water bottles and walked over to the bed and took off one of the pillow cases off of the pillow. She put the water bottles in the pillow case and handed it to Reid.
"What am I doing with this?" Reid questioned in confusion.
"Hold it to your stomach. It should help with your stomach for some time," Prentiss answered. "After about thirty minutes, I'll have you drink some water," She informed and Reid nodded holding the warm pillow case to his stomach. I didn't help with the pain, but it did help with the nausea. He sighed at the minor relief. It was god-send.
"Thanks," Reid said quietly with a smile. Prentiss smiled and walked over to him and simply ran her hands through his hair. She still couldn't believe he cut it off. She smiled when he leaned into her touch. Generally not something Spencer really does except for when he's with JJ and that's not really often.
"You know, those two guys I never had the chance to tell you about?" Reid questioned enjoying the slight comfort of Prentiss's touch.
"Yeah, what about them?" Prentiss questioned. She did remember that he wanted to tell her, but since time had been cut short and not all actions were in their favor… Well, he just never got around to telling her.
"I almost killed them," Reid admitted with a slight pout. He still wasn't happy with memory.
"Why?" Prentiss questioned slightly surprised.
"Because they decided to hurt me and I was still working through the PTSD with Tobias," Reid answered.
"Explain Reid. Help me understand," Prentiss said softly as she continued to rake her fingers through his hair.
"It was that awful moment when they realize that you're a fed, so they get scared and try to get "rid" of you," Reid explained simply. Prentiss frowned.
"What?" Prentiss questioned.
"Yup, but I can't blame anyone except myself for being exposed. I was craving really bad that day and it just took over my common sense," Reid admitted.
"So that's when they tried to get rid of you? How? I'm sure you could've defended yourself," Prentiss questioned still trying to figure it out.
"Withdrawals are every drug addict's weakness. I was sick, shaking. Holding a book was literally impossible. The only thing that made it worse was that it was a Friday," Spencer sighed. "So why not try to get rid of him while he was off work for the weekend? Kidnapping a druggie going through withdrawals is fairly simple, however keeping it that way isn't so easy."
"You never told us?" Prentiss claimed.
"Why would I? I didn't want to get fired for being a drug addict, besides I can handle my own problems," Spencer dismissed. "If you need to kill someone quickly, don't hold them hostage. Only hold them hostage if it's for revenge. They held me hostage. They tried to torture me, but their attempts were futile. They've never done it before. My senses were heightened mainly because I needed that drug, so breaking free was fairly simple the next day."
"Why did you almost kill them?" Prentiss inquired.
"Because I was beyond pissed. All I wanted as some fucking dilauded, not a crappy form of being beaten. Plus they wanted to kill me and between them and the flashbacks of Tobias, I was fairly unstable," Reid said as it was the most obvious thing in the world.
"How did you pull it off?" Prentiss asked completely immersed.
"I just waited for them to come check on me. They came and I locked them there with me. They tried to fight, but if you haven't noticed I'm pretty good at using my surroundings to work in my favor. In the end they ended up unconscious and I tied them up to the exact same chair I was in. Well, almost. I had to get another chair for the second guy," Spencer said dully as he felt another wave of pain roll through his body.
"What did you do to them?" Prentiss questioned slightly horrified as Spencer only shook his head.
"Nothing right away. I decided to get high, so I temporarily forgot about them. However when I did remember, I took to breaking bones. I wanted them to feel pain, not just experience it. Then I decided to dismember them. Simple right? Started off with the fingers on one guy, the toes on the other. Simple stuff. That was until Hotch called with a case and ruined my little experiment," Reid stated with a frown.
Prentiss looked at him horrified. She just imagined him in one of his casual everyday work clothes, sleeves rolled up hands covered in blood as he ripped these two men to pieces.
"What did you do with them?" Prentiss questioned.
"Well I let them go. Promised them I'd finish if they ever pulled that shit again. One was beyond scared, but the second man. I profiled him down to the T. He is the type of guy that would find a way to get back at me. I'm still waiting for that day. Until then, I get free drugs," Spencer said with another painful shrug.
"Reid you should've told us," Prentiss breathed. He was definitely a bit scarier than she initial thought. Now she understood why he believes he is no better than Birsha.
"What was I supposed to say? Hey guys, I was having really bad cravings that made me feel like I was dying, so I headed straight to my dealers without taking off my badge and gun and ended up being kidnapped. Then, when I got out of bounds after they attempted to torture me, I decided to get even and torture them as well, except I chopped off their fingers and toes and wanted them to die. Hotch you ruined my plans when you called. That's why you heard screaming in the background. I really wasn't watching a movie. Sorry I lied," Spencer said sarcastically. "Come on Emily, you're smarter than that."
Prentiss couldn't help but chuckle a little at his sarcastic tone. How did he make what he did seem so light? She had to attest that to his slightly easy going nature. Then again, considering how he sees himself as not the most humane… Well why bother making it seem horrible when the both of them know how horrible it really is?
"You're laughing," Reid said. She could tell he was smiling.
"You are feeling a bit better too," She added to his statement.
"Yes, finally," Reid admitted. "I guess that means we can get going?" He asked looking up at her for the first time in thirty minutes.
"Nope. Sorry Reid, but I want to make sure you are not going to get sick again. Let me get you some water," She said grabbing a water bottle. Spencer felt his stomach turn once more. Maybe he could make it if he didn't eat or drink the rest of the way.
"I was feeling better until you showed me that bottle," Reid muttered. Prentiss only smiled as he took the water bottle and took a sip. He felt his stomach turn slowly, but he did his best to hold it down. Prentiss watched him carefully. She wished the team would hurry up with the meds. He didn't look any better even though she could tell the bout of nausea was moving in his favor.
"Try drinking a bit more. You need to stay hydrated," Prentiss stated as Spencer looked at her blankly. He obviously didn't want to take another sip, but he did. The second one proved to be too much as he quickly ran back to the bathroom and threw up. Prentiss frowned and looked at the clock. She knew the team should be settled in less than an hour. JJ would probably text her.
She still hoped that Spencer wouldn't be too mad though. How did they get Hotch to agree to this? She truly wondered as she walked towards Spencer and patted his back again. He was shaking slightly and she wasn't sure if it was from the pain or if he was just cold. Either way, she walked back to the bed and ripped off the first blanket and grabbed the second down blanket, pulling it off the bed. She folded it in half and walked back to Spencer who had just flushed the toilet once again. She gently draped the blanket over him and he smiled in thanks.
She was about to say something when someone knocked on the door. Automatically, Reid frowned and stood up.
"Stay," Prentiss ordered and he looked like he was about to argue, but she pointed at him and rose an eyebrow. He sighed and nodded for her to go. She looked through the peephole, but didn't see anyone. She frowned. Should she open the door? She decided to risk it as she unlocked the door and peeped out.
Suddenly, she was assaulted by JJ and Morgan who rushed in followed by Rossi and Hotch who were very calm.
Prentiss smiled when they came in, but then remembered that Reid may not be so happy.
"Reid," Prentiss called out but he was already there looking at them all wide eyed. He was definitely not ready to see all of them, and why were they here? He asked them not to come. He trusted them to not come.
JJ and Morgan automatically frowned when they saw how miserable Reid looked. However, they saw the confusion, nervousness, and disbelief written across his face.
JJ reached into her purse and pulled out his medicine. Hopefully he'd say something other than stare at them.
"Em told us you were getting a little sick, and we figured you needed the antibiotics, so..." She said handing him the medicine. Reid took it. He wanted to question them why they were there. Why they didn't listen to him and meet up in Nevada as planned. However, he didn't have the heart. Here they were helping him. The least he could do was not get too upset.
"Thank you," Reid said quietly. He wasn't too sure how he could take it without puking it back up, but he'd save that thought when he decides to actually take it.
Hotch looked over to Prentiss and nodded for them to step outside. Prentiss nodded back and left Reid with Morgan, JJ, and Rossi.
"We weren't planning on telling him we were coming here, but when you said he got sick we figured it was best to just show up. We didn't want to have you two separate for any length of time," Hotch explained.
"I understand, I just don't know how that is going to sit with Reid," Prentiss said honestly.
"He's definitely holding it in," Hotch said slowly.
"Well, yeah considering what you guys just did for him," Prentiss said looking back at the door. "He'd feel bad for yelling at you all."
"Hopefully we'll make it up to him," Hotch stated and nodded to go back in. Prentiss sighed and opened the door to see Morgan and JJ talking to him animatedly. They must have really missed him. She remembered the first time they saw him after he quit and how quiet they all were, but now they were over talking. Her eyes met Reid's and she could tell he noticed it too. His eyes glanced toward the clock and Prentiss wondered if he did have a set time for all of this.
"Aren't you guys tired? You've been working all day and it's way past midnight," Reid said looking at all of them. Prentiss wasn't sure if he was trying to get rid of them or if he was truly worried about their sleep.
"Pretty boy, you should be getting some sleep," Morgan said placing a hand over Reid's forehead.
"I've only been up for seven hours. You guys have been up for nearly nineteen hours," Reid admitted as another wave of nausea hit him. He looked at the clock. He still had about four hours until he met up with his person. Hopefully his stomach would finally settle down.
"We'll get some sleep once you take your medicine," JJ smirked. Prentiss's eyes widened slightly at her little threat. She knew Reid didn't want to take it just yet since he wasn't feeling too good, but JJ had a point there. She wanted to make sure Reid helped himself. Reid sighed and looked towards his and Prentiss's bags. He got up despite the pain and grabbed his bag. He slowly walked into the bathroom and grabbed the second disposable cup. He knew what he was about to do was going to bother the team greatly, but he had no choice. He opened the antibiotics and put the pill in the cup. Then he grabbed one of the water bottles and put a bit of water in it. He watched as the pill started to dissolve and he swished the cup patiently waiting. The team watched curiously. Was he just going to drink the dissolved pill? After what seemed like a minute, Reid smiled slightly and walked back to the bag sitting the cup on the bed stand.
They watched as he pulled out something in plastic as well as some type of rope. It took them all a minute to realize that it was a needle and tourniquet.
"What the hell?" Morgan questioned and Reid simply rose an eyebrow. He was going to have to take the pill somehow. Seeing as his stomach wasn't allowing anything in. His circulatory system would just have to do the trick. He grabbed the needle and filled it with the dissolved antibiotic. He easily pushed out any air and sat the needle carefully down. He then simply rolled up his sleeve and tied the tourniquet easily around his arm with skills that he had mastered over the years. Grabbing the needle and balling one fist he simply placed the needle by the vein. The team was transfixed.
He simply added a slightly pressed and pushed on the plunger.
"No rush. No euphoria. No high," Reid muttered somewhat disappointedly to himself. He simply undid the tourniquet and broke the needle in half.
"I took it, now get some sleep," Reid muttered. He would rather them at least be alert and well rested. He didn't want them to hurt themselves.
"Spence," JJ said frozen. "What was that?" She questioned.
"A chemist's delight," Reid answered as he placed the broken needle in a bag.
"Reid… Was that safe?" Morgan questioned highly disturbed.
"Safe enough. Like a personal IV?" Reid questioned. Why were they freaking out so much? They're acting like he was doing dilauded or even heroine.
"Reid," Hotch said gaining Reid's attention, but even he was at a loss for words. What does one say to that?
"Good job Kiddo. Not letting a little sickness keep your brain from working," Rossi said with a small smile. He had to admit, it was pretty smart for his situation.
"Thanks," Reid said softly while rolling down his sleeve. "Now go to sleep please. I'll feel bad if you are all tired," Reid admitted.
"Okay, Reid," Rossi said taking over. "Guys let's go. Who knows when we have to be up," Rossi said getting everyone up. JJ quickly walked over to Reid and gave him a soft hug.
"Are you alright?" Spencer questioned.
"I'm fine. Just out of the field for some time," JJ said while placing a quick kiss on top of his head. "Good night," She said quietly.
"Good night," He smiled back as Morgan came over and ruffled his hair.
"I'd prefer you to take your medicine orally. It looks a lot safer," Morgan said honestly.
"I'd prefer it that way too," Reid admitted as well.
"Why do you even have it?" Morgan asked referring to the needle and tourniquet.
"Just in case this happened or I wanted to be a drug addict again. You never really know," Reid stated. Morgan didn't like that answer, but nodded anyways.
"I understand kid. Have a good night," Morgan smiled.
"Goodnight," Reid smiled back.
"We will see you tomorrow. Good night guys," Hotch and Rossi stated quickly.
"Night," Prentiss said for the both of them. Once they were gone Reid frowned.
"Did you know they were coming?" Reid questioned.
"I found out when I called them. I didn't think they were going to visit though," Prentiss sighed as Reid blinked tiredly. Throwing up wasn't exactly cheap on his energy.
"I will worry about them twice as much as I did before," Reid admitted. "I have to be there by 5:30 this morning," Reid stated.
"Okay, we will head out at 4:20. I'll wake call the team when we are about to leave okay?" Prentiss said.
"Alright," Reid agreed.
"Now take a nap. I bet that pill is working already," Prentiss smiled.
"Probably," Reid yawned. He got up and crawled into the bed. He was still slightly cold, but he could deal with it.
"Feel free to get in. I promise I'm not a bad sleeper," Reid muttered closing his eyes. Prentiss chuckled at his comment. Sure he wasn't. Either way, she allowed herself to crawl in the bed too. Hopefully he wouldn't be a bad sleeper this night. She would hate to have to choose the floor over his offer…
I don't think I have to say never to try any methods I just stated in this chapter! I got them all from some drug addict's blog on how to safely make your own "needle plunger drug" thingy! I do not know if one can do that safely... So, its just a story... Don't copy it please!
That's my main point!
As for everything else... I hope it was pretty good... Sorry it was like five million words long! Sorry that he had to get all sort of sick as well!
I hope I didn't make Reid sort of creepy with that whole "dismemberment" thing... Not trying to creep anyone out... 0.0
Have a nice day/ night!
Bye!
