AAA Chapter 37

"I hope you have a really good reason for missing practice as many times as you have Dragneel." Coach said without even looking at me.

"I do, I don't think you'll find it a good reason though." I said.

"So you've made your decision?"

"I'm sorry Coach, I-"

"When you first applied to the team you were nothing but this scrawny freshman. I made you into the man you are now Dragneel. You aren't a nerd-comic-anime-whatever club you're in. You're not, you're a jock. Look at yourself, you're about to throw everything away for what?"

I chuckled lightly, shaking my head. "You're wrong Coach. I was an otaku from the day I walked into this school, even while I was playing for the team. I hid it though because... I guess I was ashamed. I'm not anymore, I don't need this fake life anymore. I know who I am and I'm happy to be in a club where people actually listen and like me for who I am."

Coach stared at me for a second before looking away. I saw him take a pen from the back of his ear and make a mark on his clipboard. It was a short line before it started going back and forth really fast and then circular motions. I had a feeling that it was my name he was crossing off of the team.

"You're dismissed Dragneel."

"Thank you Coach, thank you for everything you've done." I said bowing low to him.

I heard his footsteps but didn't look up, planning on showing my thanks until he left. The door opened, but never closed.

"If you ever change your mind, I'll always welcome a linebacker like you back."

I looked up, my eyes wide.

"That is, if you pass tryouts." Coach smirked before leaving.

I grinned brightly, "thank you Coach!"

It was a nice offer although I knew that I'd never come back here... unless anime club ended again. Fat chance that was going to happen though with everyone we had now. I grinned and fist pumped the air in the locker room, slamming my hands against the lockers as I laughed and danced around.

"I'm a free otaku!"

"He was so understanding, I never thought he'd be that kind." I said, shocked.

Lucy giggled as she ran her fingers through my hair, "everyone loves you Natsu, even if they don't show it."

"Yeah, but this was Coach! Oh, I'm so glad that it's over now though. Now all I have to focus on is watching anime and hanging with friends." I grinned.

She giggled again before leaning down, kissing my lips gently. I leaned up a little bit and grabbed the back of her neck, pushing her even closer to me to deepen our kiss. Her lips parted and my tongue immediately darted it, licking her cavern walls before our tongues danced together. She moaned and I grinned, leaning more up to get a better hold on her.

"HELLO?! ARE WE SUDDENLY INVISIBLE?!"

Lucy eeped and flew back while I glared at Freed, "what the hell man?"

Lucy blushed and pushed me, running over to Erza, Juvia, and Levy who probably started teasing her. Wendy had her eyes on the ceiling, Romeo was laughing along with Gajeel, Gray was sitting in the corner scrunching his face at me, and Laxus. Laxus was in the corner of the room listening to music, but Freed held his hands on his hips as he glared.

"We see enough kissing in animes, we don't need to see real life people kissing either." He said.

"You're just jealous I have a hot girlfriend." I told him.

"Natsu!" Lucy yelled, Erza and Levy laughing.

Freed snorted, "right."

My eyebrow twitched and I looked over to Wendy, "permission to fight Freed?"

"Permission granted. Battle field Dragon Ball Z." She announced.

The classroom changed to the mountain sides, the wind flowing wildly as Freed and I stared each other down.

"I'm going to end you." I said.

"Only in your dreams Dragneel." Freed chuckled to himself.

That hit a nerve and before we could have the long smack talk before we finally got down to business, I just got down to business and rushed him. I threw punches left and right, Freed simply dodging them all. What the hell? I thought Freed was a spazz! How the hell is he doing all this?

"Should have warned you, Freed's family owns a dojo." Laxus said in the back of my head.

"Dojo?" I asked letting my guard down.

Freed seized this opportunity and grabbed my wrist, flipping me and slamming me on the rock hard rubble. I saw stars, my eyes started spinning as I gasped for air. The rocky terrain turned back into a classroom and Freed was just smirking over me.

"What a fight." He said sarcastically.

I was in too much pain to mutter something back.

"Freed, that was going a little bit over board. Are you alright Natsu?" Wendy asked walking in my line of sight.

"Yeah, I just think I broke my spleen." I said getting up.

"Spleen?" Romeo laughed a little.

"You should have gone easy on him Freed." Laxus lectured.

"What? It isn't my fault he talks so much game and can't back it up."

"Just you wait Freed, I'll get you back. Some day." I muttered holding up a hand.

Gray grabbed it and pulled me to my feet, helping me up. I shook my head a little bit and got my sight back, rubbing the back of my head. Everyone looked worriedly at me, especially Lucy. I just smiled and waved them all off.

"I'm fine guys, really."

"Though your pride must have taken a hit."

Gajeel started laughing and I glared at him before walking over; Erza grabbed me by the shoulders and grabbed Gajeel too, knocking our heads together.

"I think that's enough fighting, wouldn't you say?" She asked.

"Yeah Erza." We stuttered, stumbling around.

"Wow Erza! That's so cool! Teach me how to do that! Usually I have to yell at them to stop." Wendy asked, her eyes lighting up.

"Well it's easy Wendy, for your height though... Laxus. Come give Wendy a boost." Erza grinned walking over to him.

I quickly got out of the way so Wendy wouldn't practice her head butting on me again; who knew Gajeel also had a head of steel? My eyes started spinning and I felt the strangest urge to use the bathroom all of a sudden.

"Listen, I'll be right back. Need to use the restroom." I told Lucy.

She nodded and smiled at me before I left the room and started walking down the halls. I quickly took care of my business and started walking back to our clubroom. I saw a blur of white though and paused, walking backwards. A girl with long, beautiful white hair was sitting alone in a classroom, no wait. Not alone. A tall guy with dark blue hair walk beside her and started talking. The strange thing was, I knew both these people. What the hell? Mirajane didn't like Doranbolt, did she? No! Wendy likes him! I thought of myself as Naruto as I snuck over to the door and opened it up a little bit.

"You're really strung up on this, aren't you Doranbolt?"

"I just don't know what to do, I've never had this problem before. Just look at me, I'm handsome. Girls usually flock towards me."

"This isn't just some ordinary girl though, this is an otaku girl."

"I know, and I've been searching for animes where a girl loves this new guy, but also her best friend and it isn't helping at all. Most of the times the new guy is a jerk so she chooses the friend."

Hello? That's the definition of you bro.

"Well you did cheat on your girlfriend with her."

"She forgave me though! I made it up, I... I just want her to love me Mira. I want her so badly and I'm... I'm actually afraid, terrified that she'll pick that other kid. I mean, what will I do after that? I fear I'll end up like Jellal..."

His voice sounded so desperate, so... pathetic. I leaned up and looked through the door window, seeing Doranbolt with his head down on her desk. Mira was smiling and stroking his hair lightly.

"Say she does end up with you Doranbolt, what if it's not what it seems? This isn't an anime or movie, you might be with her and... and it's nothing how you imagined."

"That's impossible."

"How do you know?"

"Because when I kiss her I feel like I can give up anything in the world to stay with her. That simple. She makes the world simple. I can give up anime, manga, never know the endings of all the stories I've read if she just says yes to me."

I was starting to get mixed feelings for Doranbolt now. Of course I didn't want him with Wendy, Romeo was my homie, but the way he was describing things. The tone of his voice... I could tell he really cared. He was sounding like Lucy now when she'd tell me she'd love me. He actually sounded like he... meant those words.

"If this was an anime Doranbolt, do you think you'd end up with the girl? And be honest?"

It was quiet for a while as he thought it over.

"Depends, PG or AD?"

Mira started laughing, the same as me which was a fatal mistake because I suddenly heard his voice through our laughs.

"Who's there?!"

I came out from my hiding spot and walked in, grin still in place. Doranbolt relaxed and rolled his eyes while Mirajane smiled.

"Hey Natsu!"

"Hi Mira!" I grinned giving her a hug.

"I'll catch you later Mira." Doranbolt said grabbing his bag.

"Wait a second D, you know most of our club hates you and all, but if you are really as serious as you're making me and Mira believe then why don't you just join anime club? You'd be able to see her way more often and make friends with her friends." I suggested.

"That's impossible."

Doranbolt wasn't the one who answered that, but Mirajane. I looked at her and saw that her smile wasn't in place.

"Not impossible, I just don't want too." Doranbolt said before leaving the room.

I looked back at Mira, her facial expression was blank. I waved a hand in front of her face and snapped, she blinked and smiled up at me.

"Sorry." She said softly.

"Mira?" "I asked.

"It's nothing, so! How's anime club?" She asked.

I pulled up a chair and sat down in it, "wonderful. Wendy is doing such a good job and we have new members, there are eleven of us in the club now! Can you believe that? Eleven!"

"Sounds nice."

"It is Mira, so many more people then my freshman year struggling with members and do you like Doranbolt?" I slipped in.

She simply blinked and looked at the window, shaking her head. "No, Doranbolt is just a really, really good friend. I do love him, like a brother though. He's... my role model." She said.

"Really? That slime ball?"

"It wasn't his fault Natsu, he just didn't watch enough romance animes growing up."

"So he really is an otaku?"

"Yup, or well used to be.. we're friends though so you don't have to worry. I'm just trying to help him with his love life since he once helped me with my own."

"You were in love once?!" I asked, shocked.

Sure I see guys around Mira, but she never looks serious about them. I've never seen her with a boyfriend either! Mirajane smiled and looked at the Atsuki ring on her finger, spinning it lightly.

"Once..." She chuckled, "I guess. He never looks my way though."

"But you're beautiful!"

"That's what Doranbolt said, in the end it simply wasn't meant to be though. Oh well." She sighed blowing the bangs out of her face.

"Was he gay?"

That's the only reason I can think of someone denying to date Mirajane. She was the perfect package, beautiful, smart, nice, could cook, loves anime, everything!

"I don't know, maybe. It's over though Natsu, I'm not that sad about it anymore. We're still good friends."

I looked at her finger and gulped. She told me once who gave that ring to her, but that was a long time ago; I had no idea who it was anymore.

"So how's Lucy?"

"Good, we're pretty good together. Love her and all... she's sort of hiding a secret from me."

Mira gasped dramatically, "sort of? Well that's never good."

"I'm fine really, I don't want to ruin this. I love her you know? I don't want to push her."

"What if she's like an anime abuser or killer? Of what if she burns manga books for her own amusement?!" Mira gasped again.

"Mira!"

"You know I'm only teasing you Natsu, I'm surprised you knew the answer to that problem; Doranbolt probably would have pushed it. It's best to wait things out until she's ready to tell you. If she's keeping it a secret then it must be important, remember to keep an open mind though when she tells you. Okay?" She asked.

"Thanks Mira, I will."

"Good, well I think it's about time I return home now." She said getting up.

I got up with her and walked her out, holding the door open for her. We walked down the halls together for a little bit before I had to go left, her right.

"Bye Natsu." She waved.

"Why don't you join our club Mirajane?" I blurted out.

Mirajane looked back at me, "because I grew up Natsu."

"You can shrink back down, I have a potion!" I told her.

Mira didn't laugh, she just shook her head. "I hung up my cape a long time ago Natsu, consider yourself lucky that you have a girlfriend who loves anime."

What... what did that mean coming from her? That her love didn't like anime? That's why she quit? Mirajane... she's helped me so much. Even before we started going to school together, she was always watching over me when I came over her house and made me into the anime lover I am today. Things only got better when I went to school with her, that first anime club, although short, was so much fun. She's done so much for me, I had to help her back. I owed it to her.

She was the president of my first anime club after all.
