3 month later

Katara's POV

I yawned as the meeting turned to a close. It was a beautiful day out and yet Zuko and I were stuck in a long meeting. Discussing the new season.

Summer.

I leaned back into the chair enjoying how pleasant the heat was. After living here for two and a half years I was never comfortable during the summer. It was always so hot and I never wanted to be outdoors. I rubbed my belly happily. It was only thanks to this little one I was able to enjoy it.

After the first trimester and the beginning of my cravings Zuko and I had grown to realize that I was carrying a Fire bender. After more weeks past, Iroh and even Ursa began to agree that the baby was a fire bender. All the time I wanted nothing to eat but fire flakes, spicy foods, and warm teas. A part of me was sad to know that I wasn't going to have a water bender but, Zuko assured me that this was only the first one and that the next may be a water bender. I felt her kick where my hand was and I chuckled, bringing everyone out of their professional modes. Zuko looked to me and placed his hand over the other side of my tummy warming the area just lightly with the palm of his hand. I felt the baby kick once more causing us both to laugh. "See, that's daddy. And over here is mommy." I murmured.

The council called for our attention and wished us a nice afternoon. Adding that I should take it easy for the next few days seeing as I was close to being due. With an elated sigh I stood up carefully and walked out of the meeting room and to the turtle duck pond. Zuko followed close behind as we approached his mother, Iroh, Azula and Hahn. "Finally you two are here."

"Sorry meeting dragged on longer than we had expected." Zuko explained. We sat down and I leaned against him for support as we had afternoon tea with our family. Discussing the Fire Nation and of course everyone else that we missed terribly. A gush of wind came towards us and Druk came back from a hunt and settled next to me happily sated. His head rested on the ground and I stroked him to a comfortable relaxation.

That feels nice Katara…

"I'm glad, was your hunt okay?"

Yes, I'm so full though…I ate too many Roorabits. They're not that much of a challenge for me anymore and I ate too many.

I chuckled alongside the others and shook my head. Zuko leaned over and poked his belly causing the dragon to moan in pain.

Noooo Zuko don't do that! Ugh, never again…

"I told you that if you eat too much Druk you would get sick."

"My Nephew is right Druk, you must not give into temptation. As easy of a catch as they may be, you should always know your limits."

Yes Uncle…ugh….

The rest of the afternoon passed by quickly as Druk napped and so did Zuko while I spoke with everyone else. We chuckled about how childish Zuko and Druk were and how I was already acting like a mother. "I can't wait till we finally get to meet the little one. You still haven't found out what gender It is?" Ursa asked.

I shook my head. "Zuko and I are happy knowing that he or she is a fire bender. We don't care about the gender, we just really want to meet them now."

"What do you they will be?" Iroh asked.

I watched Zuko sleeping peacefully and played with his hair. "I think a girl. In which case Zuko wants to name her Kya after my mother. I told him we didn't have to but he really wants to. It makes me happy to know my mother's name will be passed down."

"That's a beautiful name Katara. I'm sure it would make your mother very happy. " Ursa said happily.

"Thank you mom."

"What if it's a boy?" Hahn asked.

Azula smirked. "Does that mean you're going to name him something fierce!?"

I chuckled, "Oh I don't know if it's fierce or not but we decided on Hazuki. It's quite clever really. The H comes from Hakoda, A for Agni, Z for Zuko, U for Ursa, K for Katara, and I for Iroh. We found a name that took something from each of us."

"Oh I love that name! Hazuki sounds so cute!" Azula cheered.

"Well if Katara believes that she's having a girl then I believe a Kya is on the way." Iroh smirked.

I chuckled feeling Zuko stir from his nap. "Crap did I fall asleep?"

"Yup, you and Druk. It's okay though you were up late and we had such a long meeting." I reasoned. He seemed to feel a little less guilty and sat up yawning widely.

"Ahh I feel a little better now that's for sure. How are you doing" he asked me. I smiled standing up.

"I'm alright, I have this weird feeling but I think I just need the bathroom. I'll be right back."

Zuko looked at me skeptically before standing up as well. "I'll go with you just in case. Are you sure you're fine?"

I nodded feeling a little dizzy and then the pain came again. "Maybe…or maybe not. I think I might have stood up too quickly." I said quietly.

Ursa came to stand beside me and looked me over seeing if anything had happened. "Are you sure you're well enough Katara? Maybe you should just rest for today. Too much strain on your body at this point isn't smart."

I sighed taking deep breaths. "You're right, ma-maybe I'll go rest."

"I'll walk you there. Come on." Zuko placed his arm around my waist securely before we made the first step. After about four steps I felt it break.

"Shit."

"Katara? What's wrong?" Zuko panicked. I started laughing and grabbed onto Zuko tighter.

"She just couldn't wait. Zuko my water just broke."

I looked to him and Ursa smiling knowing that I was ready to have my baby.

"Your…water…Shit! Azula go get the doctors and nurses to the medic room! Katara's water just broke!"

Azula squealed grabbing Hahn and rushing to do as Zuko said while I took deep breaths. Iroh had woken up Druk and both of them looked to see my condition. I could feel it now. Call it motherly instinct but I knew something was coming. Zuko looked panicky and worried as he looked around. I chuckled clutching onto him a bit tighter. "Zuko, I'm fine. I just need to get to the infirmary."

"Oh right! Right, uhm okay okay the infirmary got it." He mumbled to himself. I couldn't help the giggles as I watch him fret over the easiest part of the whole thing as we made our way to the infirmary. Ursa was beside me coaching me through my breathing and now contractions.

"Good good, this will make things easier. You're going to be just fine Katara."

I continued breathing like she instructed when a sudden pain hit me hard. I groaned knowing that the baby wasn't waiting for anyone.

"Okay Zuko stop panicking. I need to get to the infirmary. Now." I flinched at the pain, trying to focus on my breathing. I knew I needed to lay down and I needed to have a doctor talk me through this. Zuko wasted no time lifting me into his arms and placing me securely on Druk's back.

You will be okay Katara, I'll get you there quickly.

Zuko's POV

I paced around the halls waiting patiently for our child to be born. Katara, my mother, and sister were inside the room while we waited outside. I sat down by the door running a hand through my hair. Wondering what the hell was happening and if everything was okay. Katara's contractions has lasted about an hour almost two now since her water broke. Druk left to go tell everyone that Katara was having the baby since he was much faster than a messenger hawk. That and he probably wanted to get out and spread his wings for a bit.

"Zuko she will be fine, calm down." Hahn said. He leaned against the wall beside me and sighed when another scream came from the room.

"I don't like this! I should be in there with her!"

"Zuko trust the doctors they know what they are talking about. Have patience my nephew. Katara is a strong woman, they will both be fine." My uncle reasoned. I sighed knowing full well that he was right.

I listened to Katara struggling through this ordeal and it broke my heart to know I couldn't be in there with her right now. To be support or something at the very least! She screamed again before shouting loud enough for me to hear.

"ZUKO GET YOU'RE FIRE BENDING ASS IN HERE RIGHT NOW!"

We all flinched at the sound of her voice and almost immediately the door flew open, Azula looking to me with fearful eyes. "You better get off the floor and get in here."

I stumbled to find my footing and practically launched myself into the room. Katara's face was beaded with sweat and pain, and her labored breathing was the only thing keeping me somewhat sane. "Fire Lady Katara we are going to start having you push now okay?"

"O-okay. Zuko..your hand…Give me your hand."

I bit my lip knowing that this was going to hurt like hell. I sat down next to her and allowed her to hold onto my hand, not my fingers, like my uncle had instructed.

The doctors instructed Katara to take deep breaths and to start pushing. The pain from her squeezing my hand was nowhere near what she was possibly feeling. but it still hurt like a bitch. My mother and Azula helped in whatever way they could, preparing for the baby's arrival. Katara's screams probably echoed throughout the whole castle and into the city. I flinched when I felt ice forming around our hands. Freezing my hand to hers, and the entire room apparently. I looked around noticing the icicles forming on the roof and the temperature drop in the room. I quickly exerted some heat to stop her from completely freezing the room and everyone in it.

She screamed one more agonizing cry and the wail of our child was heard. Katara fell against the sheets exhausted and released my hand. I looked to my mother who looked at our baby from the doctor's hands and tears glistened in her eyes.

"It's a girl, oh Katara…she's beautiful."

After cutting the cord and cleaning her up my mother wrapped her in a soft pastel red blanket and handed her to me. The tiny girl fit comfortably into my arms as I met my daughter for the first time. Her dark brown locks and bright gold eyes looked back at me. I knew as soon as I looked into her eyes it was love at first sight. Her soft caramel skin was the perfect mix between our own. I watched a tear fall on her chubby cheeks and realized it was my own and I was crying. She flinched in a way that reminded me of Katara, immediately I brought her over for her to see. "She looks just like you."

Katara weakly took her into her arms and started crying as well. "Hello Kya…"

I sat beside her wrapping one arm around her and playing with Kya's cheeks. "She's beautiful."

"She sure is, are you disappointed I was right?" She chuckled.

I smiled kissing her forehead, "Not at all. I told you I would love to have a daughter to spoil. Thank you Katara."

"Welcome to the world Princess Kya."
