Chapter 35: What Matters Most
Part One - I Choose You
"And I'd choose you; in a hundred lifetimes, in a hundred worlds, in any version of reality, I'd find you and I'd choose you." ~The Chaos of Stars
FPOV
Fitz stood in the center of the Oval Office, both arms raised into the air. A tailor was taking last minute measurements for his tuxedo and was moving around his body in a slow methodical manner. Lauren was in the corner of the office discussing arrangements for the next week, a pen and small notepad in her hand. Fitz would be leaving for Vermont that evening and wasn't expected to return for a week. He wasn't certain how the White House was going to pull off his absence but he trusted Lauren had a few tricks up her sleeve.
"Sir...you're expected to depart at 6:00 and Mr. Beene is scheduled to leave at 3:00 tomorrow afternoon. The Vice President has been given your instructions as requested. And Mr. Beene will receive your daily briefings in your absence."
Fitz nodded and lowered his arms, the tailor now focusing on the hemline of his pants. They discussed a few more details before Fitz asked Lauren about her travel arrangements. It was going to be difficult having his personal secretary out for any period of time but both him and Olivia wanted her to be at the wedding.
"When do you arrive?" Lauren's face changed and embarrassment set in.
"My flight is scheduled for 5:00." Her voice was low, almost shy and Fitz couldn't help but look at her inquisitively.
"Mr. President, I'm completely honored you and Ms. Pope invited me...I wasn't expecting an invitation, Sir..."
Fitz smiled and the tailor finally stood, a small black container holding needle and thread in his hand. He motioned for the President to return back into his private bathroom to change and Fitz obliged, walking in that direction. He turned his head and spoke over his shoulder to Lauren who was still standing near the door.
"We appreciate all you've done Lauren. Leave the Itinerary we discussed on my desk. I want to look it over one last time."
Fitz caught glimpse of his secretary leave his office and he quickly made his way into the bathroom and changed. Once done, he handed the tuxedo to the tailor who remained in his office. He shook hands with the man and patted his back in one fluid motion.
"We'll have these ready this afternoon, Mr. President...and congratulations again, Sir."
Fitz thanked him once more and proceeded to his desk, the leather in his chair creaking at the body contact. He placed his glasses on and opened the envelope Lauren left for him. Inside was the honeymoon itinerary and he wanted to make certain every detail was finalized. He reviewed the inside contents a few times before closing the folder, his glasses now resting on top of it.
He leaned back into his chair and sat deep in thought for a few moments. It was a little past noon and he had three more meetings before his day would come to an end. He sat in silence thinking about Olivia when a knock on the door sounded. Lauren entered again and introduced the gentlemen to her left. He was a representative from Harry Winston and carried a small rectangular safety deposit box from his hand.
"Good Morning, Mr. President." We are honored to be a part of your special day. I have no doubt, Ms. Pope will look stunning in these earrings." Fitz watched the gentleman remove a key attached to his wrist and open the safe. He removed the velvet box and placed it on his desk, opening it for him.
Two earrings adored in hundreds of purple diamonds greeted him, their sparkle catching the sunlight that peeked behind him through the window. He examined them for a while and smiled, content at his selection. Fitz knew his brides favorite color was purple and be couldn't wait to see her wear them tomorrow. They reminded him of Olivia...beautiful, elegant and rare.
The earrings would be her something new.
"These will be delivered right before the ceremony, as you requested, Mr. President. On behalf of the entire Harry Winston corporation, we wish you and Ms. Pope a most joyful day tomorrow."
Several pages were handed to Fitz and he put his glasses on to carefully reading each one. The earrings net-worth were quite expensive and the appropriate documentation was needed before the earrings could be delivered. He signed his signature a few times and shook the young man's hand, thanking him for his assistance.
Lauren walked the gentleman out of the Oval Office and Fitz decided to give Olivia a call. He knew Michael and Rosa flew in last night but wasn't certain when others would be arriving. As soon as he picked up the phone another knock on the door sounded and Marta entered, along with Teddy.
His son barreled through his office, running full speed in his direction. Fitz instantly stood and hung up the phone, picking Teddy up and spinning him around. Giggles filled the air and the sound made Fitz smile. He placed his son on his desk and ruffled his hair before kissing him on the cheek.
"When are we seeing Wivia?" He asked, kicking his legs back and forth. Fitz explained to Teddy the wedding was tomorrow and although he knew he didn't really understand what it meant he did seem rather excited about going back to Vermont.
"Are you getting excited about going on a plane?" Teddy shook his head up and down and quickly wiggled his way off his desk, his attention span now wearing thin.
Fitz discussed a few details with Marta about their travel arrangements and Teddy walked around his office, not staying in one place for long. After a while, Fitz lifted him once more and spun him around in the air kissing him goodbye.
"See you soon, buddy." Teddy squeezed his neck and kissed him once before Fitz tickled him mercilessly one last time. He watched his son leave and headed back to his desk finally picking up the phone.
OPOV
Olivia was seated in the great room discussing some last minute details with her wedding planner. Both she and Fitz decided to write their own vows and Celeste was explaining the order of events once the actual ceremony began. She heard her cell buzzing on the kitchen island nearby and excused herself to answer the phone.
It was Fitz.
"How's my bride?" The deep voice radiated through the phone. Olivia felt that familiar pull form in her stomach hearing his words. It had been nearly 48 hours since they last saw one another and she missed every part of him.
"What time do you get in?" She replied. "I was hoping we could have dinner tonight."
"Around 8:00. Have Michael and Rosa settled in?" Olivia saw a figure in the window and made her way over towards the door.
"They have...a bit jet lagged I think. I was thinking of having them join us tonight." A knock on the door sounded and she smiled.
"Fitz...a package has arrived. I'll call you back later. We can discuss the details then."
Olivia hung up the phone and opened the heavy mahogany door. Karen's smiling face immediately greeted her and the two embraced instantly. She invited her inside and introduced her soon to be step daughter to Celeste. All three of them chatted for a while before Karen turned her full attention over to Olivia.
"Dad still has no idea?" She asked. Her eyes danced with excitement and it warmed Olivia's heart to see her so happy.
"None. He gets in tonight so it will be up to you to show him in the morning. Secret Service knows to land on the east end of the Estate. He shouldn't notice anything from the air."
Karen clapped her hands together and smiled, slightly jumping up and down in place. Olivia invited her to come outside and gave her directions on how to get to the surprise they had been planning together for the last month. She watched her Secret Service detail escort her away from the home and towards the west end of the property. The sun was bright and Olivia looked up at the sky. It was a perfect crisp blue and she crossed her arms at the sight.
She couldn't have asked for more perfect weather.
Olivia and Karen were in the kitchen when Fitz finally arrived. She stayed back and continued stirring the sauce while Karen ran to hug her father. He was completely surprised to see her and lifted her off the ground immediately. Michael and Rosa were sitting in the living room and stood, making their way over to Fitz. Olivia watched him kiss Rosa on the cheek before shaking Michael's hand.
The four stood talking for a moment before Fitz's eyes surveyed the room, searching for her. She remained near the stove when their eyes finally met locking into place. The magnetic energy they shared came alive and she couldn't stop herself from going to him.
He extended his hand out to her and pulled Olivia close, tucking her underneath his arm. They kissed on the lips once and she felt him kiss her a few more times on the side of her face before finally settling his arm tightly around her waist. The conversation centered around Karen and Michael proudly shared news about his son who was doing very well in school.
Olivia involuntarily squeezed Fitz. She looked around the room and felt her eyes water. This home was filled with love the night before they were to be married. It was as if she wanted to pinch herself, the reality of what her life had become almost too much to process. She suddenly felt all eyes on her and realized she wasn't paying attention to what had been said.
"Let's eat." She sheepishly stated, breaking contact with Fitz and walking towards the kitchen.
Everyone followed and for the next hour they sat and enjoyed each others company. It ended up being a relaxing evening and she loved having Karen there. She was easy to talk with and seemed to enjoy all the stories Michael had to share. Once the last bite of food was taken she stood and Rosa motioned for her to come into the other room.
Olivia followed and at first was concerned. She couldn't read her facial expression and hoped everything was ok. They stood in a side hallway and Rosa opened the small purse that draped off her hip. She pulled out a small box and handed it to Olivia.
"I carried this inside my bouquet when I married Michael some years ago. I would love for you to carry it tomorrow. It will be a busy day and I wanted to offer this to you while I had the chance." Rosa opened the box and pulled out a very short rosary, one made for a child.
"This was my rosary when I was a little girl." She placed it inside of Olivia's hand and closed her fingers, wrapping them around the beads. "This is your something borrowed. Tuck it inside your bouquet and know that so many of us are here to support you and the President and that something bigger, more divine is indeed watching over both of you."
Olivia's eyes filled with tears and without thinking she grabbed Rosa and hugged her tight. The words Rosa spoke were that of a mother and she knew once again she was being provided gold nuggets...nuggets she could carry deep within proving she was indeed worthy of love.
She thanked Rosa and placed the rosary back inside the box, wiping her tears with her fingers. They walked back and joined the others who were still seated in the dining room. Fitz looked in her direction and searched her eyes for some time. Eventually he stood and thanked both Michael and Rosa for coming.
They walked each of them to the door and Karen excused herself to make a phone call upstairs. Michael kissed Olivia's cheek and grabbed her hands, telling her once again how honored he was to be giving her away tomorrow. His face beamed with pride and Fitz affectionately patted his shoulder several times before eventually shaking his hand goodbye. Daniel opened the door and escorted them out, closing the it behind him. Once alone Fitz turned his attention over Olivia.
"You okay?" His hands grabbed the side of her hip and pulled her closer into him.
"I am. I'm so glad they are here." She wrapped her arms around the back of his neck and interlocked her fingers together.
"I want us to enjoy every minute of tomorrow, Livvie. This day has been a long time coming." Olivia snuggled against his chest and they stood in the center of their home for some time in silence.
"You get to see your wedding present in the morning," Olivia said, breaking contact. She could see the surprise spread across Fitz's face.
"So will you...one of many." He smiled at Olivia and she slightly shook her head. Subtlety was never one of his strengths.
The remainder of the evening was low key and they mostly chatted with Karen about school and her boyfriend. Olivia could sense their relationship growing more serious and she wondered if Fitz picked up on it as well. It was close to midnight when they all decided to call it a night.
"I'm glad I'm here Dad. I'm really happy for both of you." Karen hugged each of them goodnight and briefly discussed Teddy's arrival in the morning. She told Fitz there was something she wanted to do with him first thing after he awoke and then disappeared upstairs, leaving them alone.
"I'll take the guest room next to Karen." Fitz stood and drank the rest of the bourbon sitting in his glass. Olivia watched him take the drink and set it on the counter in the kitchen before turning his attention back to her.
"You're going to take my breath away...I just know it." Olivia stood and went to him, extending her hand in his direction. He linked fingers with hers and they walked hand and hand upstairs and stopped in front of their bedroom.
"Tomorrow at this time I will be Mrs. Grant." She hugged him again and spoke the words low against his skin.
"Tomorrow at this time I'll be adoring every inch of this body." His voice was matter of fact and he caressed her back side affectionately, kissing the corner of her mouth.
Her body longed for him and she knew if they didn't say goodnight now, they wouldn't be able to resist each other much longer. Olivia kissed him softly on the lips and they eventually parted ways. It was strange entering their bedroom alone for the night but they wanted to keep with tradition of the bride and groom sleeping apart. She felt giddy and was honestly too excited to sleep.
Her cell phone was on the night stand and she decided to check her messages before getting ready for bed. She had two...one from Abby and one from Stephen. They would be arriving together in the morning and checking in at the resort Michael and Rosa were staying at. Abby planned to be at the Vermont Estate early to help Olivia in any way possible.
She set the phone back down and made her way into the bathroom beginning her normal night time routine. It was getting late and she wished she felt more tired. When she finished at the sink she climbed into bed and opened the small box Rosa gave her earlier. She lifted the beads up and admired the rosary thinking about the story behind them. The gesture touched her deeply and she knew it was yet another example of how blessed she was. She had never been a religious person but did believe there was a God and for most of her life she felt punished by him...and unworthy of so much.
Until now.
Olivia sat in bed and began to think back of her time in Grenada, pretending to be someone else; wanting to escape Fitz and the demons that caged her for so long. She couldn't believe how far they had come. It was now the night before their wedding and in many ways her life was just now beginning. They were actually beating all the odds stacked against them and a feeling of contentment settled in. She imagined tomorrow and seeing the look on Fitz's face when he finally saw her.
It was the anticipation of that moment that finally willed her to try and sleep.
FPOV
Fitz awoke to Teddy jumping on top of him. He glanced at the time and saw it was 8:30. He couldn't remember the last time he slept this late and he silently thanked Lauren for allowing him the luxury of sleeping in. Karen was leaned against the door and had an envelope in her hands. Teddy kept saying something over and over again but he had a hard time understanding his words.
"Good Morning, Dad. We have plans for you this morning. Get dressed."
Fitz sat up in bed and lifted Teddy into his lap. He motioned for Karen to join him and she sat on the edge of the bed and handed him the envelope. His name was written on the front in Olivia's handwriting. He placed it to the left of him and focused on his daughter.
"You're up early. When did your brother get here?"
"A few minutes ago. Marta is downstairs. We have breakfast ready. Olivia asked you read this before you come down." He smoothed the hair on the back of her head and smiled nodding his head.
"Give me a few minutes. I'll be right down." Karen corralled Teddy and once they left the room Fitz stood and changed. His eyes remained fixated on the envelope on the bed and suddenly he felt like a school boy who had just scored the perfect prom date.
Fitz returned to the bed and reached for the envelope finally breaking its seal. Inside was a folded piece of paper. He reached for his glasses on the nightstand and began to read the following message:
Dear Fitz,
I will never be able to express how deep my love for you flows within me. Or how honored I am to become your wife. The gift that awaits you is just a small token of my gratitude for you and a representation of what matters most.
I look forward to tonight.
Olivia
Fitz read the note a few more times before placing it back inside the envelope. He sat on the edge of the bed and stared at the floor, a mixture of emotions filling his chest. This was a perfect way to begin his day and he no one to thank but his soon to be wife.
The sound of squeals suddenly grabbed his attention and he finally stood and walked downstairs. Karan and Teddy were in the kitchen and to his surprise Marta was talking to Abby who must have just arrived.
"Good Morning, Mr. President." Abby greeted him. She had a small plate in her hand and was standing near an assortment of food on the island.
"Good Morning, Abby. Marta. Are you taking Olivia some food?"Abby smiled and nodded her head, choosing a few items from the selection before them.
"The glam-squad is upstairs," she said with a wide grin. "We're about to get our nails done."
Fitz smiled and made himself a plate of food motioning for Karen to join him. They sat in the barstools with Teddy in between them on top of the counter. He happily ate off their plates and Fitz enjoyed his time with them immensely. It had been quite a while he had both children under the same roof.
As soon as they were done eating Karen asked him to come outside. He lifted Teddy up into the air and onto his shoulders. His son began to repeat the same phrase he did earlier this morning. Unfortunately he still wasn't able to understand what he was saying.
The three of them eventually stepped outside and the warm air greeted him. He followed Karen to the side of the house and stopped mid step as soon as he saw the statues.
"Daddy! Daddy! Look that's me in the thatchu!"
Fitz lifted Teddy off his shoulders and tears filled his eyes. Three life size bronze statues of his children stood before him. One of Jerry, Teddy who stood in the middle and Karen on the other end. They rested on a large rectangular piece of metal and he noticed a small plague at the far end of it. He walked closer and saw the presidential seal. Underneath it were the names of his children and their ages.
"It's for your Presidential Library, Daddy. It's Olivia's gift to you. If you look there and there, you'll see room to add more...for when you and Olivia have children."
Fitz followed his daughters pointed finger and saw the two markings Karen referred to. He then looked back at the small plague and saw there too was room for additional names. Fitz stood shocked and couldn't find his voice for some time. He couldn't take his eyes off Jerry's statue and a familiar pain could be felt surfacing in his chest.
"Daddy, Daddy! Look! Look at my thatchu!"
Teddy danced around his own statue and gleefully smiled at himself, periodically touching his face with his chubby fingers. He soon felt Karen take his hand and squeezed it softly, snapping him out of his trance. She was smiling up at him and he pulled her in close, placing his arm around her. They stayed there for a while and Fitz tried to compose himself. He was overwhelmed and simply didn't have the words to explain what he was feeling.
It was the perfect gift and indeed a representation of what truly mattered most.
OPOV
It was 6:00 in the evening and Olivia was getting the finishing touches of her makeup placed on. Her gown was a perfect fit and butterflies began to fill her stomach. She had visitors all day come upstairs and wish her well and she was so grateful to each one for taking the time to visit with her.
Abby was in the chair next to her and looked radiant. Her hair was pinned up and outlined her gorgeous neckline. They were discussing OPA's gift to Olivia and Abby's laughter was contagious.
"Whose idea was it?" Olivia asked, trying not to move her lips too much.
"I'll never tell. But I will say it's the sexiest 'something old' I've ever seen." Her words were playfully suggestive and Olivia could feel her cheeks flush. There was no doubt Fitz would appreciate their gift most of all.
The woman in front of her finally stood and turned Olivia's chair towards the mirror. She turned from side to side and admired the view. Her make up was soft and hair down... just the way Fitz liked it. She was about to stand when a knock on the door sounded. Abby opened it and a Hal handed her a small velvet box, along with a card.
It was from the President.
Olivia took the items from Abby and remained seated in the chair. The sight of the black velvet box made her heart skip a beat. She asked for some privacy and waited until she was finally alone in the room before opening the envelope. Inside was a small card written in Fitz's handwriting. She read each word carefully trying to hold back her tears.
Olivia,
I have waited my entire life for you. The day has finally come for the world to know who indeed my heart has always belonged to. This is one last gift before I officially make you mine.
Consider it your something new.
Fitz
Olivia slowly opened the box and her breath caught, instinctively sucking in air. The gift overwhelmed her and she simply stared at the pair of earrings for long while. Abby soon entered again and said Celeste was asking them to come downstairs...people were in place and all that was needed was Olivia.
She turned to look at Abby and knew her face was in complete shock. Abby saw the earrings and didn't seem surprised by the gift. She began to take charge and Olivia soon figured out she was embracing her role as maid of honor.
"That man loves you, Liv. Wow does he love you." She took the current studs out of Olivia's ears and carefully placed each earring on, not asking for permission. Once in place, both women stared at their reflection in the mirror. Abby placed her hand on her friends shoulder and squeezed.
"You look gorgeous. And you both deserve this." Olivia stood and hugged her friend tight, whispering how very much she loved her. Another knock on the door sounded and Olivia knew it was more than likely Celeste.
Abby helped Olivia gather her bouquet and Celeste waved the team standing outside the door back in. A few touch ups were given before Olivia finally made her way downstairs. Hal was waiting near the door and immediately escorted her outside and through the lit path. She could hear the sounds of a distant violin playing and her feet suddenly felt heavy. She grabbed onto Hal's arm who instantly stopped to steady her.
Olivia took a deep breath and nodded her head motioning for him to continue. Once they reached the field she was taken a back way until they reached a special partition placed specifically to keep anyone from seeing the bride. Michael was waiting for her and he immediately took her by the hand and kissed her softly on the cheek.
"What an honor, Olivia. You will never know how much this means to me...how much you mean to me. You make me and Rosa so very proud." Olivia smiled at the man she had come to love like a father and squeezed his hand.
"We owe a lot to you, Michael. I don't know if I would be standing here if it wasn't for you." She spoke the words because they were true and she couldn't help but share them.
"Everything you need is inside of you, Olivia. Always remember that."
Olivia kissed him on the cheek and Celeste touched her arm softly.
"It's time..." She handed Olivia her bouquet and Michael smiled. Part of Rosa's rosary could be seen in between the white roses.
Olivia heard Celeste speaking into an earpiece and the moment the orchestra began to play Canon in D the partition magically lifted. The sight before her was nothing short of a fairy tail. They began to walk down a narrow path filled with hundreds upon hundreds of rose petals. She saw people standing and smiling in her direction but wasn't able to focus on any of their faces.
She looked ahead at her future and locked eyes with the man she was completely in love with. His lips slightly curved downward and she knew he too was fighting the urge to cry. He wore a crisp black tuxedo and didn't take his eyes off of her.
FPOV
Fitz stared at the vision before him and a lump formed in his throat. He knew Olivia would look gorgeous but nothing prepared him for this moment. Her dress was strapless, form fitting and hugged every curve of her body. Her new earrings dangled and sparkled with her movements and he deep down couldn't wait to make love to her wearing nothing but them on.
On Celeste's cue he took a few steps and met Michael, taking Olivia's hand and wrapping her arm around his. Michael extended his hand to Fitz and they shook. Fitz caught glimpse of Olivia mouthing the words 'Thank You' to Michael and he the gratitude he felt for that man nearly overwhelmed him.
The orchestras final tune ended and the Reverend performing the ceremony asked everyone to be seated. Fitz couldn't stop staring at Olivia. He tried to look away but couldn't and every fiber in his body wanted to take her into his arms and hold her. Reverend Harris began to speak and Fitz finally forced himself to turn in his direction.
"Friends, we are gathered today to celebrate the love these two people share. I had the privilege to sit down with the President and Olivia not too long ago and I must say, I've never seen two people more suited for one another. They did make one thing clear, this ceremony was to be centered around their love so I'm going to turn it over to them. They have decided to write their own vows and I think it's best if they aren't kept waiting any longer."
Fitz turned his attention to Olivia and she handed her bouquet of white roses to Abby who was standing next to her. A small microphone was discretely placed in between them and it was Olivia who began to speak first.
"To most of the people here your known as the President...but to me you're just Fitz...the man I want to grow old with. You've seen me at my best and you've seen me at my worst...and through it all you always made one thing clear- you were never going to stop loving me. I am a better person because of you. So I stand before you and God and under the stars that look down at us tonight and say that I choose you, Fitz and that I will love you with all that I am and with all that I have and through our journey together you will always have me by your side."
Olivia's voice cracked as she spoke and Fitz's heart almost couldn't take the beauty of her words. He watched this gorgeous being before him turn to Abby and take a ring from her. She reached for his hand and slipped the gold band into place and began speaking more, continuing to pour her heart to him.
"This ring is an outward sign of my love for you. It represents unity and friendship and is a symbol of our union together as husband and wife. It's my promise that I, Olivia Carolyn Pope take you Fitzgerald Thomas Grant III to be my husband, to have and to hold from this day forward; to love, honor and cherish you all the days ahead."
Olivia squeezed Fitz's hand and he blinked several times trying to keep his tears from falling. Her words were poised, elegant and he knew she meant every single word. He mouthed the words 'I love you' and she mouthed them back. Again, it took everything inside of him not to lift her into his arms. The Reverend motioned for Fitz to begin and he softly cleared his throat trying to regain his composure.
OPOV
Olivia stood before Fitz and a calm resonated within. She could tell her words left an impact on Fitz and she couldn't remember a time he ever looked at her more adoringly. The peace within her continued and she briefly closed her eyes preparing to hear the vows Fitz was about to say to her.
"I will never forget the first moment I saw you...this strong, confident woman who completely shook my entire world upside down. I have told you many times that loving you is all that makes sense to me. And I tell you those words because they're true. It's all I know, and it's who I am. You push me to be better and you balance me and I honestly know in my heart you are the person I was meant to share my life with. So I stand before you, my children, God and under the stars that look down at us tonight and say that I choose you, Olivia and that I will love you with with everything I am and with all that I have and through our journey together you will always have me by your side."
A tear fell down her cheek and she couldn't take her eyes off him. His blue eyes pierced straight through her and she could feel their souls connecting. She watched Fitz turn towards Teddy who was seated on Karen's lap and motioned for him to come over. Olivia smiled as Fitz kneeled down and took her ring from his tiny hand. Teddy hugged his father and scurried back over to Karen who picked him up and placed him back onto her lap. Fitz stood and faced her once again, lifting her hand and sliding her ring into place.
"This ring is an outward sign of my love for you. It represents unity and friendship and is a symbol of our union together as husband and wife. It's a promise that I, Fitzgerald Thomas Grant III take you, Olivia Carolyn Pope to be my wife, to have and to hold from this day forward; to love, honor and cherish you all the days ahead."
Olivia squeezed his hand and smiled. Emotions were running high and their desire to kiss one another took hold. They simultaneously turned to look at the Reverend who proudly said the words they were both waiting to hear.
"It is with great honor and privilege that I present to you, Mr. and Mrs. Fitzgerald Thomas Grant III.
Mr. President, you may kiss your bride."
Fitz instantly grabbed her waist and pulled her body into his. They stood within inches from one another and Olivia could hear the loud clapping around them. She focused on his lips and could feel his warm breath against her skin.
"You officially belong to me, Mrs. Grant." He spoke low and Olivia felt his grip around her waist tighten. She smiled and slightly nodded her head yes before touching his cheek with her hand. The kiss at first was soft and delicate and within seconds deepened while he lifted her into the air.
Their guests yelled and cheered their congratulations while the orchestra played the traditional Wedding March. When Fitz returned her feet to the ground they turned and faced their closest friends who continued to clap loudly and cheer. Fitz motioned for Teddy and Karen to join in and they each took turns hugging one another. It was a moment that stood still and would forever be etched into both their minds.
It was a moment filled with love and promise and magic.
FPOV
The newlyweds posed for pictures as their guests mingled amongst themselves. Soft music played in the background and servants began to make their way into the tent, preparing each table with dinner plates.
Once the White House photographer snapped the last photo, Olivia joined OPA who were all gathered nearby. He watched his bride hug each friend, smiling and thanking them for being apart of their special day. Everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves and he couldn't have been happier with how the ceremony turned out. He checked the time and saw it was nearly 8:30. Celeste was nearby coaxing the guests towards the tent and Fitz caught Hal's attention. He nodded in his direction and a few moments later their guests were asked to be seated.
Olivia joined him once again and Hal handed them each a glass of wine. He watched Olivia thank him profusely and knew this was more than likely her first real drink of the night. She took a generous sip and her head suddenly turned to look at him. Her eyes narrowed and a devilish smile spread across her lips.
The wine was Screaming Eagle.
Fitz raised his eyebrows at his bride and took a drink. Visions of Italy flooded his mind and he watched Olivia shake her head subtlety from side to side. She put her arm around his and pulled him within earshot.
"You want to leave now? We haven't even eaten?" He could hear the hesitation in her voice and although he understood why, he simply didn't care.
"I want you back in Italy so I can pour this wine on your naked body..." He grazed her cheek softly with his lips and spoke the words directly into her ear."
Fitz studied her face and could feel her body respond to him. She took another drink and he nodded again into Hal's direction.
"Our guests will be fine. We'll say a few goodbyes and slip out. Air Force One is ready. Italy awaits us, Mrs. Grant..." Fitz kissed her cheek and found her ear again before continuing. "I'm ready to have you all to myself."
He kissed her lobe and felt her break free from him, taking one more sip. She walked to the tent and found Celeste and he watched the two speak for a few moments. Fitz made his way over to Karen and Teddy and he explained he was going to be leaving soon on his trip with Olivia. His children hugged him goodbye and he thanked Marta for taking such good care of his son.
Fitz finally met up with Lauren and Cyrus who was carrying his daughter. Ella caught sight of Teddy and Cyrus set her down to go play with him. They discussed a few issues before Olivia eventually joined them.
"Mrs. Grant, I'll prep Abby in the morning on the list of items you want addressed," Lauren said specifically addressing Olivia. They continued speaking about a few loose ends until Huck finally approached them.
"We're ready, Sir."
Fitz shook hands with Cyrus and both he and Olivia thanked Celeste for making the ceremony everything they dreamed. Secret Service escorted the newly wed couple back to the house where a black unmarked car awaited to take them to the private hanger that currently housed AFO. They walked hand in hand but neither spoke a word. When they finally arrived, Huck opened the door for them and Fitz helped Olivia inside. Fitz stared at her for a few minutes before breaking the silence.
"I've never seen you look more beautiful." He placed an elbow against the leather and leaned his head into the palm of his hand.
Olivia held up her left hand and slightly moved her ring finger, the diamonds sparkling with the dim light above the door. She eventually turned to look at him and touched his cheek softly.
"The statues...for the library. I don't know what to say. I..." He couldn't find the words, his emotions suddenly getting the best of him.
"Shhh- you don't need to say anything. Karen helped. And I hope we can add to it one day."
"Thank you for bringing it here...today for me to see. I know it sounds silly but seeing Jerry here at the Estate...I never thought I'd get the chance."
Olivia reached for him and he buried his face into the side of her neck. They remained quiet for the remainder of the drive until they finally arrived. Huck was the first to exit the vehicle and quickly opened up the car door for them. As soon as Fitz stepped out he lifted Olivia into his arms and carried her towards Air Force One. A giggle escaped her and they both smiled like two teenagers in love.
Two Marines in uniform saluted them as Fitz carried his bride up the stairs. Their pilot, Monroe, greeted them the second he stepped inside.
"Mr. President, Madame First Lady...congratulations and welcome. Everything you've requested has been arranged. Don't hesitate to let me know if there's you need. We've been cleared for take off and will be departing in the next five minutes." He tipped his hat at them and Fitz set Olivia down on her feet. He shook hands with the pilot and quickly led Olivia into their private sleeping quarters.
Fitz opened the door and watched her face as she walked in. Candles were lit throughout the room and white rose petals that matched her bouquet covered the bed. A bottle of champagne sat in the corner, along with two glasses next to a large basket of food.
"Fitz...this is beautiful."
Fitz unfastened his bow tie and untucked his shirt, getting himself more comfortable. He watched Olivia look around the room, setting her bouquet down near the champagne glasses. She turned to look at Fitz who still standing near the door. His tuxedo jacket was now off and he was rolling his sleeves up one by one.
"Come here. Let me undress you."
Olivia went to him and turned around allowing him to unzip her dress from behind. He placed both arms around her, kissing her shoulders several times. Her skin was warm and soft and he couldn't believe this creature before him was actually his. He whispered over and over again how gorgeous she looked and his fingers found the zipper on the back of the dress.
Fitz slowly pulled the zipper down until her dress instantly fell open. Olivia carefully stepped out of it and he gently placed the gown on a nearby chair. He finally turned Olivia around so he could get a full view of her. She stood before him naked, with the exception of a lace thong and a matching garter perfectly placed on her left upper thigh. Her earrings twinkled in the candlelight and he took several steps backwards so he could get a good look at her.
"Wow..." He simply had no other word to describe her. The garter took him completely by surprise. The lace looked delicate as if the material was somewhat of an antique. He studied it from afar for a short while until he told Olivia to lay down on the bed.
Olivia sat down on the bed and leaned back resting on her elbows. He had no words to describe her. Her high heels matched the color of her dress and she left them on knowing this would certainly drive him crazy. His pants grew more and more snug and he had no choice but to unbutton them.
He walked over to the side of the bed and placed his bow tie and cuff links on the counter. Olivia was still on her elbows and watching his every move. Once he got closer to her, he noticed the wording on the garter. Fitz lifted her leg and kissed it slowly making his way up to the lace around her thigh. He stopped and smiled when he was finally able to read the words written on it.
"Property of The President...oh I like that." He said through a moaning grin.
Fitz kissed the area around the garter in an adoring manner eventually making his way towards her inner thigh. Olivia willing parted her legs and completely rested her body now onto the bed. He remained semi dressed and pulled her thong gently down her legs, eventually tossing it on the ground behind him.
He could see her back slightly arching on the bed, her eyes closing in anticipation of what was to come. Fitz placed himself into a more comfortable position in between her legs and began to kiss her inner thighs gently. He wanted their first time making love as husband and wife to be slow and soft so he purposely took his time. When he did finally reach her core, he kissed every area around her clit until finally plunging his tongue inside.
Olivia's head titled back and a loud cry echoed into the room. Her insides were greedy and her fingers quickly found his hair, wrapping them around his curls for support. He periodically would stop and pull his tongue out just to tell her how beautiful she was and how deeply he loved her.
Each time his tongue would re-enter, Olivia's cries grew louder and louder. Her clit begged to be stimulated and the second his tongue made contact he felt a gush of her fluid fill his mouth. He held her hips down, sucking hard on her pearl, until Olivia clawed his shoulders in mercy.
When his tongue pulled out, her body relaxed and he made his way up her stomach to her breasts. Her nipples were dark and erect and he gently licked each one, sucking her flesh in the same pattern again and again and again.
His pants were now soaked and he could feel his cum seeping down his own thigh. He reluctantly lifted his body off of her and kneeled in between her legs, staring at the vision beneath him. Olivia soon sat up and began to help him out of clothes. She rubbed his crotch roughly through his pants and the sensation was nearly too much for him. He grabbed her wrist, pushing her fingers harder and harder against the material. Her mannerisms fell into routine as they both knew only one position would be used to christen their holy union.
Their foreplay continued for a long while, until Fitz was finally naked. They both kneeled on the bed, the rose petals disintegrating one by one beneath them. He turned Olivia around and she instantly submitted herself, allowing him to position her body to his liking. Fitz pulled her arms around the back of his neck and used her breasts for balance to slowly enter her.
The impact was everything he imagined it to be. He kissed the side of her neck tenderly, tears unexpectedly filling his eyes. Olivia began to call out to him, some of her words incoherent. His thrusts into her were slow and rhythmic and genuine as if he was making love to her for the very first time. He turned Olivia's head to the side and found her lips, his tongue entering her mouth so she could taste herself. He could feel his hair being tugged and his scalp tingled generating a deep moan in his chest.
It was their sacred position on their wedding night and it openly overwhelmed both of them. Fitz could feel her tears against his skin and knew he wasn't going to last much longer. He ached below and with each thrust he grew longer and longer. Olivia's body began to still and she grabbed one his hands and moved it to her core, letting him know she was ready once again.
His middle finger found her sweet spot and the second he felt her body begin to tremble, he emptied himself inside of her. No words were spoken, just their bodies communicating. They kneeled cradled together for a few moments until Fitz slowly lifted her up, disconnecting them. Olivia quickly turned around and straddled his waist, her face buried against him.
They softly wept together both of them equally overcome with the emotions of the day. Fitz repeatedly kissed her body, telling her again and again he waited so long for this day to happen. Olivia rested her head against his chest kissing his neck with each precious word.
They clung to one another, completely unaware they were now flying above 10,000 feet and well on their way to celebrating their honeymoon. The day could not have been more perfect and it represented so much more than just two people getting married. It represented hope and sacrifice and undying commitment.
Amd it was a perfect example of how in the end love indeed conquered all.
