So after Paul's defeat, can Barry come and win his gym battle or will he lose as well as Paul. Still I think everyone knows how tricky this gym can be. Also for those of you who only watch the anime, the gym leader isn't Koaga anymore, it'll be his daughter Janine. The reason I did this was because in the games, Koaga goes on to join the elite four while Janine takes over her fathers gym. I just thought I would explain that real quick.
Now one last thing I'd like to mention, I'm thinking about giving Dawn, Paul and Barry all fossil Pokemon. I'm not sure on this but if I do, I will make a poll so you guys can vote and decide but before that I mainly want to know should I do this or not. I would love to hear all of your ideas on this plan I have so please let me know if you want that to happen and what you would think of it in a review or PM because I'd love to know if I should do this.
So now that I told you about the fossil Pokemon plan I have and about Janine being the gym leader, let's get started and I hope you like it.
Chapter 37 The Ninja Gym Leader
(Barry's POV)
"So I take it this is the place." I said as he stood in front of the gym.
"Yea but if I remember correctly, Koga is known for using quick movements and poison attacks to defeat his opponents so don't let your guard down." Paul warned
"I'll be fine." I said as I ran into the gym as I was inside of it, I quickly slammed into an invisible wall. "What the hell, there's some kind of hidden wall. Someone's getting fined!"
"Last I checked Paul warned you about the wall but it looks like you forgot about it." Dawn said annoyed.
"Yea I know, geese you really need to pay more attention to me when I warn you about things." Paul said as he rolled his eyes.
"Cut it out Paul. Besides shouldn't you be training or something?" I said growing annoyed at Paul.
"Oh I will but first I figured I should watch your battle." I said
"And Brock was called to help out in the Pokémon center today so I decided to come too but it's a good thing I decided to change beforehand." Dawn said as she held up one of the pon pons.
"You know, you really shouldn't be here, you have a broken leg and this place is full of traps because the gym leader here is crazy and you could get hurt." Paul said.
"I'll be fine, besides I love being there to cheer my friends on. Believe me it would hurt a lot more if I wasn't here and if I missed out so no need to worry. Dawn said as she out to figures in the air.
"You have a way to always make people worry about you even when you say that." Paul said
"I'll be fine okay Paul geese I don't get why you're so worried." Dawn said
"I'm not worried I just don't want to hear you wine when you fall and get hurts." Paul said
"Fine then!" Dawn said sounding angry
"With that move, Paul just may have lost some points and now it's looking like Kenny could potentially take the lead. Paul better pray that we don't run into Kenny or he will take the lead big time." I said trying to imitate an announcer.
"What the hell are you talking about?" Paul asked as he gave me an evil look.
"Just the race for the medians heart." I said with a laugh as Paul practically tackled me to the ground.
"Shut up you idiot, I don't care about that girl Kenny likes." Paul yelled.
"If you didn't care, then you wouldn't be so mad that I brought it up." I said laughing.
"Please stop fighting over that stupid girl." Dawn said annoyed.
"Someone's jealous" I said
"I am not; I am just thinking that we need to focus on other stuff like Barry's battle." Dawn said as she blushed.
"You know I may be an idiot but I think you two are just as stupid but only in different ways. So I guess we are a group of idiots." I said as I laughed.
"I really can't stand you." Paul said
"But anyway, where is this Koga guy? Is he chicken or something." I said
"Who knows, all I know is with all of his traps, the man's insane." Paul said
"Hey, don't you dare bad mouth my father." A female voice said as a girl flew down from the ceiling and appeared behind us.
"Ah, how the hell did she do that? She's like a ninja." I said shocked.
"Not like am." The girl said
"Wow a real ninja, hay can you make clones of yourself like in movies and in shows and comics." I asked hoping she could.
The girl responded by making clones of her appear from the ceiling and stand right beside her.
'Do you mean like this." The girl said.
"Oh man, that's super cool. I wish I could do that." I said
"Well people could learn." The girl said.
"Seriously, teach me." I said.
"Barry cut it out, those aren't even real clones, there just people dressed like her." Paul said
"How dare you insult Janine Sempai's skills?" One of the clones said
"Really well if you're a real clone then tell me why you sound like a boy." I said
"Uh." The guy said
"That's enough. AS it seems you saw through my act, the first step to becoming a great ninja is being able to see through an illusion." The girl called Janine said.
"Ah I see, incredible." Barry said
"She just tricked you and you're impressed. God I'll never get you" Paul said sounding annoyed.
"Well sorry about that Paul but it was cool. One question though, why are you dressed like that if you're a boy." I asked.
"How dare you, I am dressed like this because I have high respect for Janine Sempai and I love training under her. So to show my respect I follow tradition and dress up like her all her other students do it as well. It helps us blend in." The boy said
"I see, so how many other male students are there?" I asked
"... Just me" the boy said.
"I thought as much." I said
"Enough, if you disrespect the way I train people then you should have no trouble defeating me in a battle." Janine said with a grin.
"That's fine by me since I need to beat you to earn my next gym badge anyway." I said
"Good but I have a training lesson soon so let's make it a quick one on one battle." Janine said.
"Sure anything's good with me." I said
Janine then walked over to the side of the wall and hit and button causing a hidden doorway to appear.
"This way please." Jaine said as she led us to a room that had a wooden area and looked like a room to talk and nothing like a battle arena.
"Is this the field?" I asked.
"Yes it is. It may be a little plain but it is still a good place to battle." Janine said
"Awesome, let's begin. Staraptor come on out!" I said
"Ariados let's go!" Jaine said as we both sent out our Pokémon and Paul and Dawn sat down to the side to watch.
"Whatever happened to Koga? When I came here, he was the gym leader I faced." Paul said
"You mean my father; he went on to become a member of the elite four while I took his place as gym leader. He is a great trainer and I want to make him proud of me so I train hard to show the honor of this gym." Janine said
"Makes sense I suppose." Paul said
"SO Paul Barry has a good type advantage right and on top of that she's only using an Ariados. Besides Piplup defeated a bunch of them before." Dawn said
"I doubt it'll be easy, she is still a gym leader so I bet her Ariados is better than a wild one." Paul said
"Who cares, let's begin. Staraptor use Aerial Ace!" I said as Staraptor swung down and slammed into Ariados.
"Poison Jab while it's close!" Janine said as her Ariados took its leg and punched Staraptor.
"That looks like it hurt Barry's Staraptor quite a bit!" Dawn said
"Doesn't worry about that, Staraptor use Brave Bird?" I said
"Jump over it and use Spiderweb around the field!" Janine said
As Staraptor turned blue and flew toward Ariados, Ariados leaped into the air to dodge the attack and then surronded the field with spider webs. Staraptor then kept flying and crashed into a wall but we were still lucky we avoided any of the webs.
I then looked around at the field and despite how plane it looked earlier; it was now surrounded by all webs and looked like something out of a horror movie. Along with things being creepy, we had to be careful not to get stuck in one of the webs or we could get in serious trouble.
"Darn it, how are we supposed to win if we can't fly around with all of these webs?" I asked.
"You're not, ninjas are supposed to be able to take away their enemies advantage and use it as their own." Janine said
Her Ariados the climbed up onto one of the webs and glared at us. "Is that thing taunting us or something well fine? Staraptor hit it with Close Combat!" I said
"Don't attack her you idiot, it's a trap!" Paul yelled as Staraptor flew close.
"Too late, Ariados, knock Staraptor into the web. Dodge its attack and then use Poison Jab!" Janine said
Staraptor flew towards Ariados, but Ariados leaped out of the way and punched Staraptor straight into one of the spider webs. Staraptor was now trapped and couldn't move.
"Now Ariados use Cross Poison!" Janine said
Her Ariados then jumped into the air and flew down slamming itself into Staraptor and dealing major damage.
"Staraptor no!" I yelled.
"Looks like you're slowly taking some damage. Plus you're still trapped in our little web. Now do you see the power a ninja has? You cannot defeat us." Janine said
"This is crazy." Paul said
"Why, what's wrong with this battle?" Dawn asked as she looked at Paul.
"It's just that I faced Koga and even his Pokémon weren't this agile and skilled. Don't get me wrong he was really strong, but this girl is crazy. She's even stronger then how powerful her father was." Pail said
"That's right, I am a better gym leader then my dad was but he's now a member of the elite four and he is far stronger than even me. You see I learned everything from him and added some new techniques of my own. So even if you defeated my father back when he was a gym leader, I still am stronger. But compared to my father now, I am a beginner and I am weak." Janine said
"I doubt that, although her father is a member of the elite four, I think Janine is still closer to her father's level then she gives herself credit for." Paul said
"I know she sure is super strong. Still I wonder how Barry can get out." Dawn said as she and her Pokémon started to cheer for me.
Darn it, we're stuck, this calls for a fine. Still, how can we get out of a web? Maybe if we use a strong enough attack, we can break the web. I guess it's worth a shot. I thought
"Staraptor try to break free of the web by using Brave Bird!" I said
Staraptor then clocked itself in a blue aura and tried to move at great speed. Luckily we were able to break free of the web and escaped. The bad news was that it couldn't regain control of itself and it crashed into the ground and it hurt itself.
"Oh no Staraptor has taken a ton of damage!" I said as I grew worried.
"Come on Barry it isn't over yet I'm sure she will slip up eventually!" Dawn cheered
"Not going to happen. Ariados use Poison Jab!" Janine said.
"Fly out of the way but be careful not get stuck in the web again!" I said
Ariados flew forward to jab Staraptor but Staraptor was able to fly out of the way to avoid the attack. Ariados then flew into the air by shooting out a string and swinging on the webs. It tried to use the webs to bounce off and defeat Staraptor but Staraptor was able to avoid all of its attacks.
"All right, just keep dodging the attacks Staraptor!" I yelled.
"Perhaps but you can't win a battle by dodging alone. You have to go on the offensive. Now Ariados use Cross Poison!" Janine said
"All right, I knew you'd mess up! Staraptor wait for it to get close to you and catch it with your feet!" I said
Ariados launched towards Staraptor with its Cross Poison attack but Staraptor caught Ariados with its feet and made its attack get cancelled out and it was unable to move.
"All right, we caught Ariados!" I said
"Yes Barry got those two good now he has to attack to win. Keep up, keep up fight fight fight. Barry and Staraptor win this right." Dawn and her Pokémon cheered.
"He has her Pokémon, now he better take advantage of this advantage before it's too late." Paul said
"Don't worry I intend to. Staraptor lets deal major damage with Brave Bird!" I said.
"Don't give it a chance, fire out multiple Spider Web attacks!" Janine said
Ariados fired out a huge amount of Spider Web attacks at great speed and they pinned my Staraptor to the ground. Staraptor tried to use Brave Bird to escape like earlier but there were more webs this time then the previous time and Staraptor was stuck for good.
"Oh no Staraptor!" I yelled.
"Get out of it before she defeats you Barry! Keep on fighting Barry you can win! Get out now so the real battle can begin!" Dawn and her Pokémon cheered but they looked as panicked as I was feeling.
"It's useless, there are too many webs there and his Pokémon is stuck there. His Staraptor lacks the power to break all of those webs. He's at her mercy." Paul said sounding annoyed.
"There has to be something he can do." Dawn said
"The only thing he can do now is waiting for the end or forfeit, he's stuck there and nothing will change that." Paul said
"Come on, you got to believe in Barry a little bit." Dawn said
"Don't you think I want to? But his Pokémon is stuck and it can't move. If he has a fire type he could burn the web away but he doesn't. Besides, his Staraptor may have had a type advantage but Janine knew to prevent it from flying now it's trapped." Paul said
"That's right trapped like a fly in a spider's web." Janine said
"Darn it, Staraptor does something!" I yelled.
Staraptor tried its hardest to break free but it was trapped and with it being barley unable to move, it did look bad.
"Sometimes an opponent will launch into an attack and leave themselves defenseless but they only do that when they lose their cool or let their guard down. Any other time they do it is because they have another plan. You thought I had no plan but in reality I had an Ace hidden up my sleeve so I'm sorry but you fell into my trap. I attacked you because I knew you'd be able to catch our little attack so I used it as bait. I simple allowed ourselves to get caught to lure you to let your guard down. Once you did, I showed my true plan and caught you. You see it was smart to wait till I attacked but next time make sure there really is no trick." Janine said.
"I see so you lured me into attack by making me think you were making a mistake but in reality you were tricking me. Damn that's way too smart. I should fine you for that." I said
"You should find yourself for falling for it." Paul yelled.
"Be nicer Paul, Barry tried hard but there's nothing he could do. I would've fallen for it too." Dawn said
I looked down at Staraptor, it was still trying to get out but the web was to strong. It was stuck.
"The art of deception is what it truly means to be a go Ariados finish this with Giga Drain!" Janine said
The sight was disgusting to say the least. The Ariados walked up to my trapped Staraptor and hovered over it for a minute. It then lowered its head and sunk it's fangs into my Staraptors body and started to suck the energy right out of Staraptor while healing its own. I looked like a vampire drinking from their victim and was creepy as hell. The Ariados then moved its head up when it had finished its attack and walked back over to Janine's side. I then looked down at my Staraptor and I saw that it had fainted.
"With that it looks like I win." Janine said
"I think I'm going to be sick. That was so disgusting." Dawn said as she but a hand over her mouth.
"Even I have to admit that was a creepy way to win a battle. She could've done it simple with a normal attack but she had to win in such a disturbing way." Paul said
"Yikes, that was super scary but awesome as well." I said
"Now you see the power I have from training as a ninja for so long. Will you come back again after you train a bit on your own?" Janine asked me.
"Of course he will. Barry will get so much stronger that you won't know what hit him. Right Barry." Janine said.
"As if" I heard Paul says.
"What do you mean by that? Don't you think he can win if he trains hard enough?" Dawn said annoyed.
"Stop getting angry at me, we don't want you to accidentally hurt your leg worse." Paul said
"But"
"Let's listen to what Paul has to say Dawn." I said interested in what Paul was going to say.
"You're in a position similar to mine. Think about it, we both lost our battles and we lost not because we weren't strong enough but because we faced opponents who used styles we weren't used to. We could increase our strength and speed of all our Pokémon but it won't change a thing. We need to find a new training style. And all though I hate to say it, it means we need to find a good teacher." Paul said
"Good point I guess but Paul who should we find." I asked.
"I'll worry about my problem later as for you; I think there is someone who can teach how to beat the gym leader." Paul said
"And who is that. Tell me, the suspense is killing me." I said
"The best person to teach you how to counter the gym leader's methods is the gym leader herself." Paul said
"Her" I said as I looked at Janine.
"He makes a good point. And although I am a gym leader, I am also a teacher. If you are dedicated enough I will train you and help you improve on your skills so you could earn the gym badge." Janine said as she walked over to me.
I thought about it for a minute. Training with her would help me get stronger not just for the badge but for future battles as well. I should do it.
I then bowed. "Please teach me how to battle like you and how to counter your strategies." I asked as I bowed.
"Well despite how you appear you actually show respect and I can tell you're determined. So I will train you and I look forward to the day when you can beat me." Janine said with a grin.
"All right yes this is awesome." I said as I jumped in the air with my fist in the air. I then saw that everyone was staring at me. "I mean thank you for agreeing to train me." I said
"Of course that's my job but there is one condition to my training." Janine said with a grin.
"And what's that" I asked as Janine laughed a bit.
"OH come on, do I really have to wear this." I said after a half an hour.
"You look ridiculous Barry." Paul said as he was laughing which he never does so I knew this was embarrassing.
"I think Barry looks cute." Dawn said with a smile.
"Shut up, someone is so getting fined for this later!" I yelled
Janine agreed to train me but the condition was I had to follow the condition all of her students followed and dress up like her.
"I hate my life." I said as I banged my head against and invisible wall purposely.
"Welcome to the club I look forward to training with you sister." The boy who I made fun off earlier said.
"Shut up, you're wearing the same thing as me!" I said.
"Yea but unlike you I take pride in it and I understand how important and honorable it is to wear this." The boy said
"We are dressed up like Janine who is a girl and we are boys! What's honorable about that?" I yelled as my face turned red.
"Barry looks over here!" Dawn said when I turned around, I saw a flash come from her Xtransciever.
"What the hell was that?" I asked.
"That's a keeper. I have a camera inside the Xtransciever so I thought I'd take a picture." Dawn said.
"You little, delete it now or prepare to be fined!" I yelled
"No way, you look so cute dressed like that." Dawn said
I then noticed Paul was staring at me. "What is it?" I asked.
"All joking aside it's great that you're willing to take your training so seriously." Paul said but he then added "However don't allow your cross-dressing to become a habit."
"Shut up!" I yelled
"That's enough!" Janine said
"He started it." I said
"Listen Barry, you will stay here until you're able to earn my gym badge. You will train hard until I decide if your worthy for a gym badge or a rematch understand." Janine said.
"Yes Janine."
"Yes Janine what?" Janine asked as her eyes narrowed.
"Yes Janine Sempai!" Barry said.
"Um Janine, I have a contest in about a week. Can Barry come see it?" Dawn asked.
"I'm afraid now, the first week we'll go over basics so he can get used to it. If he wants to earn the badge quickly then he'll have to train nonstop. This means less time for eating, sleeping, or goofing off." Janine said.
"Aw man this will be a pain. But once again why do I have to wear this?" Barry asked.
"I suppose you truly don't get it. Those clothes symbolize the fact that you are training under me. That's why you look identical to me. It shows you respect me and will follow my order but the clothes are more than that. Their like a cocoon, right now since you're developing you will dress like me in every way possible. My hair, my clothes, my shoes. You must wear it all because for now you're copying my style of training and fighting. However when you pass my test and earn the badge it will mean you have graduated and you are ready to use your own training style, that's when you will stop looking like me, and look like your own person." Janine said.
"Did you go through the same thing when you were younger?" Dawn asked.
"Yes I did when I trained under my father I dressed just like him. After he told me there was no more to teach me, I started learning my own style and wore my own clothes. It's how my family has trained for generations." Janine said with a grin.
"Clothes symbolize my current level and after I grow I'll be able to be my own clothes to show that I train with my own unique style. That's actually kind of cool. You know what I think this outfit has some pride to it after all." I said feeling a little proud to be wearing the clothes.
"Good and you'll be even more proud when you get the badge and can remove them." Janine said.
"Yes this is all true, just one question." Paul said
"What's that Paul?" I asked.
"Is that hair a wig or dyed?' Paul asked.
"Shut the hell up, and it's a wig for your information!" I yelled feeling annoyed again.
"I see, I was just a little curious." Paul said still laughing a bit.
"Well we should be going now; we still need to prepare for some stuff of our own." Dawn said
"Hey are you two sure you don't want to train with me." I asked.
"Her training style wouldn't help us in any way. Sorry but I'll find someone else." Paul said
"Okay then that's fine by me but Paul I have a question." I said
"What is it?"
"I appreciate that you helped me by telling me I should train with someone but wouldn't the same logic go for you." Barry said
"True I need to find someone who can help me. It twists my stomach to have to find someone and ask them for help but I'm no fool, I know I will need the help." Paul said
"If you ask me you're being smart, you never would've asked for help in the past but I guess we've rubbed off on you." Dawn said with a smile.
"Yea I guess so." Paul said
"But as I was saying Paul, if you need to find a teacher and Janine can't help you, well who are you going to rely on to help you figure out a way to win?" I asked
Paul then looked at the ground for a minute. "I don't know Barry, I just don't know." He said quietly as he and Dawn started to leave.
"See you in a few weeks or so." Dawn said as she waved.
"Don't mess this up and be stuck in there forever. You better be out soon and I will find a way to improve myself trust me." Paul said as he and Dawn left.
"Well their gone but I suppose some alone time will do those two well. Anyway, let's start training." I said
"Very well then but it won't be easy. All right girls let's get started." Janine said to the everyone in the room.
"Oh come on!" I wined at how Janine called all of us girls. I then realized that it would be a long training seasons.

Paul: I suppose so, but still at least things will be peacful
Dawn: I doubt that's what you'd like
Paul: That's true but I need to get to training.
Dawn: No way, Ithere are some things we gotta do before that.
Paul: LIke what?
Dawn:Like have a relaxing day without Barry to cause so much stress. it'll be awesome
Paul: Are you crazy, and what do you intend to do on such a day.
Dawn:You'll just have to wait till the next chapter to find out.
Paul: What a pain, so now your treating me like one of the readers.
Dawn: Yea and speaking of which I just want to thank everyone for reading this story for so long.
Paul: Fine, I suppose you do make a point.
