The car carrying the three doctors from Seattle drew up outside the Memorial Hospital in Boise. It was barely quarter a size of their own place of healing, yet looked homely and welcoming none the less. It was just a pity that right at that moment the only thing Miranda Bailey could feel was fear and panic. She waited for Owen Hunt and Richard Webber to climb out ahead of her, before unclipping the sleeping Zola from the child seat she had radioed ahead for, and carrying the sleepy child in her arms as they small group made their way through the sliding doors of the main entrance. Webber cleared his throat as he walked over to the reception desk. "I uh…I believe you're expecting us. We're from Seattle…you have our people here and…."
"Ah yes…Dr Webber?" the young woman asked as she reached out to pick up the phone, smiling slightly as Richard nodded. "Ok, if you'd like to take a seat over there and I will ring through and let Dr Sheehan know you're here."
"Where is Dr Sheehan?" Webber asked politely
"Oh" the receptionist smiled again. "She is in the ER working on your people sir"
Again Webber nodded before looking around him and spotting the signs directing the visitors to the ER. "And that is….this way?" he asked as he pointed at the sign
"It is…but Dr Sheehan said you were to wait here….sir! SIR!" The receptionist just shook her head as she watched the three new arrivals determinedly stride away in the direction of the ER room. "You were supposed to wait here" the receptionist finished lamely before hanging up the phone
Miranda was practically running to keep up with the pace Hunt and Webber were walking, and it didn't take tem long to find the place they were looking for, with Webber nearly taking the doors off the hinges as he pushed in. He stopped and looked around the quite and darkened area, before spotting a sign that said Resus. "There" he nodded as he pointed at the sign. They will be there" And with that he picked up the pace again, but by now the adrenalin was flooding Mirandas system, it was no longer a problem to keep up. As soon as they walked through the swinging doors into a brightly lit corridor they were approached by a nurse. "Sir, you can't be in here….sir!" she tried to stop them but by now Webber was a force of nature as his eyes fixed on the last door. "Sir…you can't go in there!" the nurse called
"Watch me!" Webber growled as he turned the corner and stopped in his tracks, Miranda nearly walked into him, until she to froze as she looked at the patient being restrained on the bed,
"Calm down Dr Grey" a middle aged dark haired woman was saying. "You're safe now, you're in hospital"
"Where's Lexie? Where's my sister?" Meredith was asking, as she glanced wild eyed at the medics and tried to push their hands away. "Derek?" she cried out "I have to get to him, there is an infection, let me….let me…..oh" She stopped moving and stared as her eyes focused on first Webber, then Bailey…before tears formed and ran down her face as she saw Zola.
Bailey found her feet, and started to walk slowly over, before lifting Zola and placing her in her mothers arms. As Meredith hugged her child to her Bailey felt her own tears running down her face as she looked at Meredith Grey….her face pale and dirt streaked a bandage around her head, her hair dirty and caked in blood. She was skinnier than ever, her eyes were rimmed in dark shadows…she looked a shell of her usual self, and Mirandas heart broke. All she wanted to do was take this broken bird in her arms and hold her, tell her it was all ok now, that she was safe, the nightmare was over. But as she stood there, gazing at her friend, she knew that her wounds ran deeper than the surface, and it would take a long time before the nightmare was truly over for Meredith Grey…for all of them.
She could hear Richard Webber talking to Dr Sheehan, and smiled politely as he introduced her, nodding as Dr Sheehan said she was pleased to meet her and how she wished it was under better circumstances. But her eyes never left Meredith, and when the younger woman looked back up at Bailey, she gave her the biggest smile she could muster before reaching out to stroke her cheek and wipe the tears away. "Hey there" she whispered as she finally saw the recognition in Merediths eyes, "good to see Meredith"
"Dr Bailey" Meredith whispered back. "Lexie…."
"It's ok honey….you rest…let them take care of you ok?" Bailey said as she bent down to kiss the top of her friends head. "Just….let them look after you"
But Meredith reached up and put her hand on Baileys arm, her eyes flicking over to Webber as well as he moved over to rest his arm around her shoulders. "Miranda….Chief….Lexie….oh my …my Lexie….she…she ….she didn't make it….she didn't make it. My sister…she's dead….my sister is dead!"
"Oh dear God" Miranda whispered and closed her eyes to mutter a quick prayer before bringing both of hands up to hold Merediths tightly.
She didn't speak, she didn't need to….as Meredith looked at Baileys eyes she saw all the emotions this woman was feeling, felt all the love and care….and finally something inside of her snapped as she realised the enormity and reality of what she was saying hit her. She, Meredith Grey, had survived, she was going home…but a home without her sister, a home that could never be the same again. Never. Meredith Grey, had survived….but there was a part of her that had died in the accident….and as she silently let the tears flow and felt the arms of both Bailey and Webber wrap around her she realised, that all of them that had been on that plane would never be the same again

Owen Hunt had stood back as the nurse had tried to block them going into Resus. As he hovered by the last set of doors, he stood and watched as Bailey and Webber comforted Meredith. He was relieved in a way that it was Meredith who was here, she was Cristinas best friend, and they needed each other. But he instantly felt guilty for feeling that way as it meant either Lexie or Arizona were…were….he stopped as he heard Meredith tell Webber and Bailey…"My sister….my sister is dead" and instantly his heart flooded with sadness at the thought of losing this wonderful and vivacious young woman, this innocent with the heart of pure gold. He sighed, bowed his head and closed his eyes, it was tough loss….really tough….but suddenly his mind filled with another image….that of Callie Torres weeping on her closet floor, unable to sleep in her bed without Arizona. "Arizona!" he whispered, but Webber heard him and nodded silently, knowing that Owen had an important call to make.
Nodding back he turned to walk back to the exit of the hospital, taking his phone out of his pocket as he stood outside in the cool night air, and hit call against one of his saved numbers.

Avery and Karev had been called to the ER to deal with a child who had been sleep walking and fallen out of a two storey high window. Kepner was finally sleeping, and the Robbins had been persuaded to go for coffee and a bite to eat in the cafeteria….and to stretch their legs a bit to. Which left Teddy and Altman in the conference room manning the phones? "Aren't you on duty?" Callie asked with a soft chuckle as she spotted Teddys eyes blinking closed
Teddy grinned back stopping as it broke into a yawn, which only made her chuckle. "Sorry…not been sleeping too well…."
"Really?" Callie asked with a trade mark eyebrow slanted in sarcasm
Teddy just shrugged before saying "And no, I'm not on duty…not for another….oooh" she glanced at her watch and sighed, "three hours! Gonna need a lot of coffee today….a whole lot!"
Callie chuckled and reached for her hand. "Thank you….for being here. For helping me through….this"
Teddy patted her hand back and gave a small smile. "Where else would I be? You and Arizona? You're my friends…and friends look out for each other right?"
"God times and bad" Callie smiled back, her eyes going wide as she heard her mobile phone start to ring out. Frantically she pulled the phone form her pocket and gasped when she saw the caller ID. "Owen?" she whispered, noticing how Teddy was leaning forward…trying to catch the conversation
"Callie….we're at Boise" Owen said quietly
"We know…we knew when you landed, figured you'd have been there for a little while by now. Owen…what's going on?" Callie asked as she blindly reached for the support of Teddys hand again
"Webber and Bailey are with Grey….MEREDITH Grey. She is conscious…a mess, but nothing that rest and fluids and rest won't cure…."
"She's conscious!" Callie closed her eyes a fraction before asking, "did she…could she…tell you…tell you…anything….tell you who…uhm"
"Lexie" Owen breathed out, not knowing any other way to say it. "Lexie Grey, did not survive. Callie….Lexie is dead. Arizona…is coming home"
"Lexie" Callie muttered. "Oh!" she gasped as she dropped the phone and stood up blindly to walk out of the room.
"Callie? CALLIE?!" Teddy could hear Owen shout down the phone as she picked it up. "She's ok Owen, she'll call you back soon. She just….she just has to go somewhere"
"Ok…look after her Teds" he said gently
"Guarantee it" Teddy replied before hanging up and standing to follow Callie, knowing exactly where to find her

Callie was lucky, on her way through the corridors she hadn't seen a soul, and as she burst into the small Chapel she was relieved to find it empty. She walked across the altar and quietly lit a candle before falling to her knees and as she clasped her hands together she whispered over and over again. "Thank you, thank you….thank you"
She didn't know how long she had knelt there before she finally stood and turned, gasping slightly as she saw Teddy sitting in a pew at the back. "This place has been busy the last four days huh?" she asked with a small smile. "Even managed to get me inside…shocker!"
Callie gave a small smile back as she said softly. "One more place I have to go"
Teddy nodded as she stood up and fell into step with the darker woman as they headed out of the Chapel and across to another part of the hospital. "I should have gone with Webber!" Callie suddenly blurted out. I'm an Orthopaedic surgeion….one of the best…and Arizona….Arizona…it sounds…bad…the break…it sounds….bad….and I…I…."
"Wouldn't have been allowed any where near the OR room…you know that!" Teddy rested her hand in the small of Callies back as they carried on walking. "You'll be able to look at her X-rays and plan how to treat her befor they send her back…choose which surgeon you trust…get his prepped and ready to go. You couldn't have done that in Boise…couldn't focus"
"She'll wonder where I am!" Callie gasped. "When she wakes up…and I'm not there…she'll wonder where I am….and she'll be hurt I'm not there…I should be there…I should be there fir her…when she wakes up...she needs me. Oh God….Teddy….what if she doesn't wake up and I don't get a chance to say goodbye? She's critically ill….and I could miss the chance to say goodbye and to tell her how much I love her, and how she has become my life and how…how special she is!" Suddenly Callie stopped walking and turned to look at Teddy her eyes wide as she gasped. "Arizona could still die….and never know…how…how important she has always been to me. I…I didn't say I love you t o her when she set off cos I was a little angry she was going…she had allowed the fact she was pissed at Alex to push her into going…it was our night off…it was our date night. I pla…planned….planned to show her I had forgiven her…showed to show her how much I love her when she got home the next night….Teddy? What if she dies…what if…."
"Stop it Callie" Teddy said as she shook her friends shoulders, "stop it. No what ifs. Arizona has fought to hang on…fought to come home to you and Sofia…she's not going to give up now…you'll see. She won't give up. And neither should you. Webber , Hunt and Bailey will get her home to you as soon as they can, you will be able to tell her how much you love her every day…for a very long…long long time. So, don't give up on her Callie…she never gave up on you…not once….so don't you give up on her…don't"
Callie looked at her for several seconds, blinking repeatedly before nodding and pulling Teddy into a hug. Silently she pulled away and gave a few more quick nods as she smoother her hair back and took in a few shaky breaths, before turning and walking through the set of doors ahead of her. Teddy followed her in, but stopped at the door as she Callie reach into the cot and lift a sleeping Sofia into her arms, feeling her heart thump in her chest as she watched Callie hug the sleeping toddler tightly as she whispered softly. "Mommy is coming home baby girl. Mommy is coming home"

Arizona was standing in the hospital, then walking out along its corridors. She stopped and smiled at some of the kids she was treating, laughing as they asked her to skate…happy to oblige, she kicked down and he wheels popped out of her shoes…she did a quick circuit of the nurse staion…making a little sound like a train as she saw the younger patients giggle and the teenagers shake their heads in amusement….before she knew it she was gliding out of the ward and back along its corridors, she was looking for something…someone…and suddenly she knew exactly who, and where to find her. She kicked the wheels back in and broke into a run, feeling alive as her hair lifted and her shoes softly thumped on the floor beneath her…she ran as fast as she could, as fast as the wind. She was waiting for her…they both were…her family. She slowed as she came to the day care room, and walked in…her heart somersaulting as she saw Callie standing there, cradling a sleeping Sofia in her arms. "She's coming home Sofia" Callie was saying softly, "Mommy is coming home"
"I'm here Callie!" Arizona whispered, and went to take a step towards her, "I'm here…I love you…Callie…I love you…oh God I love you….I'm here….Callie"
Suddenly she felt a warm wind whipping around her…pulling her backwards, pulling her away. "NO!" she cried…"Callie…no!" She struggled to pull herself forward, but the swirling wind was too strong…it pulled at her…pulling her back towards darkness. "No!" she wailed again. "Callie…wait for me…wait for me…I'm coming…I'm coming home!"
She felt the darkness close around her and gasped before it engulfed her completely
The blonde woman let out a gasp as they sent another charge of electricity through her body. "Charging" called the medic from behind the doctor administering the defib, but he sat back as he saw her take the breath, his eyes glued to the monitors. "She's back" he yelled. "She's back. How long until we land? " he yelled through to the pilot of the chopper.
"Ten minutes" came the reply. "And we have confirmation of ID…our passengers are Dr Mark Sloan and Dr Arizona Robbins"
"Arizona…nice name" the doctor said softly as he adjusted the oxygen mask back into place and studied the monitors again. "Well" he said with a soft smile, "it's a pleasure to meet you Dr Robbins…but you mustn't scare me like that again…we're too close to home to lose you now…do you hear me Dr Robbins? Arizona? You're nearly home…so hold on ok…we're taking you home"
"Callie" she murmured softly, as the doctor glanced down and smiled at her. "Callie" she muttered again as the doctor held her hand tightly in his and softly repeated. "We're taking you home"
