A/N: so this starts off right after the fight ended. Next chapter I promise more Meredith. And I think Derek is an ass, always has been, so that's why he's a jerk. I hope this and last chapter explains Meredith a bit more. song: hold on by wilson phillips because it's been stuck in my head this week!Hope you like!
Meredith and Lexie sat in Owen's office, their chairs shoved as far away from each other as possible, immediately after the fight.
Meredith was staring into space and Lexie was looking around.
They both were starting to bruise and wanted an ice-pack, but they were sent here immediately after Jackson had pulled Lexie off of Meredith. Owen was just figuring out what to call them because they were both Dr. Grey and that got kind of confusing. He decided to settle with their first names.
"You two fought?" Owen asked, not really believing it. He looked at both of them. Two women over thirty fighting was weird to comprehend. "Lexie, you are aware that this is your second fight here in this hospital, are you?" She nodded. "Care to explain?"
"People keep attacking me." She stated simply. "The first time really wasn't my fault. This time might be."
"I'm a mother." Meredith said to herself. "I shouldn't be getting into catfights."
"I don't know what the hell both of you were thinking." Owen said, shaking his head. "With both your physical conditions, this was a really dangerous move. Meredith, you've just had a heart surgery and you've lost a child. Your body is not in good shape and Lexie you know that, you were the one that, even though it's against policy, performed the surgery. And you yourself pretty much end up in the hospital every time you get the slightest push because your body is weak."
"What did you just call me?" Lexie said, clearly offended.
"You're lucky Dr. Avery got you in time or it would not have gotten pretty."
"Seriously… How do you know?"
"This has gone on long enough." Owen said, ignoring Lexie's questions. "You are both incredible surgeons, so we don't want to lose either of you, but you two are making the work place uncomfortable. Not only for yourselves, but also for others. I suggest you two go into relationship therapy."
"We are not in an incest relationship." Lexie commented.
"No, I mean your sister bond." Owen said with a frown. "Dr. Wyatt is currently doing therapy with you already, Lexie, so I think she'd be more than suitable. And Meredith, you've gone to see her to, at least that's what your file says. You two both trust her, so she's the right option. She's free to see you both in an hour."
"Okay." Meredith agreed, which earned her a glare from Lexie.
"Fine." Lexie said, standing up and quickly getting out of that office. It felt like going to the principal in high school, only she'd never done that because she was a good kid. But the threat of it was enough to cause fear. And this fear kind of felt like it.
I know this pain
Why do lock yourself up in these chains?
No one can change your life except for you
Don't ever let anyone step all over you
Just open your heart and your mind
Is it really fair to feel this way inside?
Lexie immediately saw Jackson waiting for her outside. Darn.
"Hey." She said softly, tilting her head downwards in shame.
"Hey." He replied.
"How ashamed of me are you?" She asked.
"Not really." He said and she let out a breath.
"Good."
"So… What happened?"
"We were fighting and then we were really fighting."
"That's no reason to attack somebody." He said softly.
"Why did you just assume that I did it?" Lexie asked, clearly offended. "She's the one that slapped me, and I wasn't even going to continue until she pushed me. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go and find an icepack for my sore face. Bye." She started walking away but she was stopped.
"I'm sorry, Lex." He said, making her turn around.
"So you are ashamed." Lexie concluded. "I'm sorry. I know I shouldn't have reacted but she just pissed me off."
"I'm not ashamed." Jackson said again.
"Yes, you are! Stop lying!"
"I'm not." He said. "It's just that you had more reason to attack her than she you. So I just assumed that it was you."
"Well, you assumed wrong." Lexie stated.
"I know. I'm sorry."
"It's just that I don't want you to think bad of me. Ever."
"I could never do that." He said and he leaned in to kiss her, but she pushed him away.
"Whatever, I'm going to go ice my head."
"Need me to help you?"
"No thanks, I'm good." She said, before walking away, and leaving both of them upset
Some day somebody's gonna make you want to
Turn around and say goodbye
Until then baby are you going to let them
Hold you down and make you cry
Don't you know?
Lexie and Meredith sat on the couch in Wyatt's office, who was staring at them.
"What would make you feel better?" Wyatt asked.
"I'd like to punch Meredith in the face again." Lexie said immediately. "That made me feel a hell of a lot better!"
"I meant… talk-wise." Wyatt said awkwardly.
"Oh." Lexie said and Meredith looked down at her hands. She'd never felt so distant.
"So, Lexie, you performed a surgery on Meredith." Wyatt tried. "Would you like to say anything about that?"
"I'm sorry you lost your baby." Lexie said softly.
"Thank you." Meredith replied. "I mean, it's probably for the best… I don't- two kids is a lot already. I just- I'm sorry, too."
"Lexie, what do you think your faults are in this entire situation?" Wyatt asked.
"I have none." She said.
Meredith rolled her eyes. "You have plenty."
"I thought you were trying to get me to forgive you!" Lexie complained. "This really isn't the way to do it."
"Meredith, what are your faults?" Wyatt asked quickly.
"Not talking to her more." Meredith said sincerely. "I do apologize for that. But it's a two way street, and she's been putting up a huge road block! I can't break it down by myself. If I could, I would've done it. But Lexie, you won't listen to me. Ever. No matter how much you deny it, I'm still your sister!"
"A crappy one."
"But a sister nonetheless."
"I suggest weekly therapy." Wyatt said. "Actually, no, that's an obligation. We're going to fix this mess."
"Fine." Lexie said with a sigh, knowing her therapist wouldn't take no for an answer.
"Okay." Meredith said with a smile.
"Okay, see you next week." Wyatt said.
"Till next week."
Don't you know things can change
Things'll go your way
If you hold on for one more day
Can you hold on for one more day
Things'll go your way
Hold on for one more day
Jackson and Derek waited outside Wyatt's office for their girls.
"So did you see what happened?" Derek asked.
"Not really." He replied. "I just pulled Lexie off of Meredith, but I didn't see how it started."
"Right."
The office opened and the blonde and the brunette walked out, both looking kind of puzzled.
Lexie rolled her eyes at seeing Jackson. "What?" She asked. "Here to assume more?"
"No." He said. "I told you I was sorry."
"Fine." She said.
Meredith was talking to Derek, who then turned to Jackson. "Avery, next time, control your woman."
"Control his what?" Both Meredith and Lexie said in unison.
Derek kind of realized what he'd said and sighed. "I didn't mean it like that."
"Well, it sure sounded like that." Meredith snapped.
"Meredith…" He tried. "You know I'm not the problem here."
"Yes, you are!" Meredith said, getting really frustrated. "I married a giant weasel!"
Meredith hurried away and Derek ran after her, trying to apologize but Meredith wouldn't hear it.
Jackson looked back from that to Lexie, who was deep in thought. "You know that I couldn't think bad of you, right?" He asked.
"Sure." She said.
"It was actually kind of hot. Seeing you all psycho."
Lexie smiled a bit. "God, you have mommy issues."
You could sustain
Or are you comfortable with the pain?
You've got no one to blame for your unhappiness
You got yourself into your own mess
Lettin' your worries pass you by
Don't you think it's worth your time
To change your mind?
Lexie went by Deb. "I want to get wasted tonight." She announced. "Like so wasted I can't get up."
Deb looked up and cringed. "What happened to your face?"
"Got into a fight with my sister." She shrugged.
"Got her good?"
"Yeah, I did."
"Right angle?"
"90 degree."
"So, yeah, I'm all for it." Deb said happily. "But don't you have like, a boyfriend you want to spend time with?"
"Screw Jackson." Lexie said.
"Count me in." Jo said behind them.
"Sure." Deb said.
"But it's gonna be a bit of a depressing happening." Lexie said.
"Good." She said with a frown. "I just found out that Alex had a wife. Like, seriously, a wife!"
"I know." Lexie said. "I was at their wedding."
"And you didn't say anything?" Jo asked not so softly.
"I just kind of assumed you knew…"
"Well, I didn't!" Jo said, very upset.
"I'll get the first round." Lexie offered immediately.
I know that there is pain
But you hold on for one more day and
Break free the chains
Yeah I know that there is pain
But you hold on for one more day and you
Break free, break from the chains
That night, the three girls started off at Joe's. Lexie was the first to arrive and made small talk with Joe, then Deb arrived and not too long after that.
"What should we get first?" Deb asked. "Tequila?"
"Anything but tequila." Lexie said with a sigh. "I'll have vodka. And shots."
"I want fries." Jo announced. "And a burger. And pizza. And chocolate."
"Me too." Lexie agreed. "Let's get that."
They ordered all of that and three glasses of vodka.
Lexie downed her first glass all in once.
"Slow down, miss." Deb said, taking her first sip.
"I'm mad."
"Why are you mad? I thought you were all happy and that you'd found prince charming."
Lexie sighed. "I'm mad at prince charming." The buzz was starting to kick in a bit already. She didn't take her medication today so that was probably why. And she loved being drunk. But it meant everything hurt even more.
"Why?" Deb asked. "I thought he was supposed to be charming?" She then giggled. "Wait! I just got that! Charming… Hahaha!" The buzz was kicking in with her really fast, and Lexie looked at her strangely. "What?"
"Well, prince charming… ain't so charming."
"Why? What did he do?" Jo asked, with a giant sigh.
"Well, he just assumed that I was the one that attacked Meredith."
"I would've." Deb murmured.
"Yeah, you're picking a fight for no reason." Jo said.
"He also deflowered April freaking Kepner, the virgin! Ex-virgin."
"Why do you always call her April freaking Kepner?" Deb asked. "Is that her middle name?"
"I don't know." Lexie answered and she widened her eyes. "It could be!"
"That's going to be my child's middle name." Jo said. "Me and Alex's secret love child."
"Should you be drinking if you're pregnant?" Deb asked skeptically.
"Relax, she's not pregnant." Lexie said.
"How do you know?" Deb asked, before she realized. "Oh right, your sick sixth sense."
"It's not sick, it's awesome."
"But I'm going to be pregnant!" Jo said. "And then Alex's going to abandon me just like he abandoned his wife and then I'm going to be fat, and no one will date me!"
"True." Deb said.
"That's sad." Lexie said.
"But you do know he's still married, right?" Deb asked Jo.
"What? He's still married?"
"Yeah." Deb said and she gave Jo a sympathetic pat on the shoulder.
Jo chuckled with a certain sadness. "Does he have kids?"
"Two. Dave and Chloe Karev."
"What?" Jo asked, getting to the point of crying. "Is she blond?"
"She has hair like sunshine." Deb said.
Jo started to sob a little.
"Don't listen to her, she's lying." Lexie said.
Jo looked up. "What?"
"When she gets drunk, she lies. And she becomes manipulative. It's a habit she can't seem to kick."
"That doesn't change the fact he had a wife!"
"You don't know the story." Lexie said. "The story's messed up and twisted and absolutely heartbreaking. But I need to be more drunk to tell it."
"Okay." Jo said and she ordered more shots.
They all downed their shots in unison.
"Why are you upset?" Jo asked Deb.
"I'm upset whenever she is." She said, while pointing to Lexie. "It's because we're team awesome. We feel things as a team."
"Yeah. That is true." Lexie said.
"Can I be apart of it?" Jo asked.
"What?" Deb asked.
"Team awesome?"
"You've gotta screw up your life first." Lexie said. "That's the acceptance exam."
"Then I don't want to join."
Some day somebody's gonna make you want to
Turn around and say goodbye
Until then baby are you going to let them
Hold you down and make you cry
Don't you know?
Jo, Deb, and Lexie had moved to a booth. And now all of them were crying.
There really was no explanation for it, it just happened.
"So what happened to Alex and his wife?" Jo asked. "I need to know if the same damn thing isn't going to happen to me."
"Izzie was really nice." Lexie started. "She was not a bad person. I really liked her. And I hope that I helped her. She and Alex were like a dream. They were the lucky ones that had that good thing. But she started to see her dead fiancée, a ghost. She was sick, it was really bad. So Alex married her, to have her dream of a big wedding come true before she died. It was so beautiful and sad. They made it work until she survived. That was awkward. It was sort of… Nobody expected it. She lived, and everybody was happy, but then she left. Over something really stupid. She left, leaving him no more than a note. It was like: Hey I love you but you're an ass and I've gotta go. Though he'd married her. And then I slept with him, I think."
"Wow." Jo said. "That's intense." She frowned. "Now I can't hate him."
"I know."
Don't you know things can change
Things'll go your way
If you hold on for one more day yeah
If you hold on
"So what is your problem?" Deb asked Lexie. "Are you mean to Jackson because you think he's going to die again?"
"Jackson's dying?" Jo asked.
"No." Lexie said. "But I always think he is. Long story."
"But why are you this way?" Deb asked.
"It's April."
Deb looked around. "Where?"
"Not the person you idiot." Lexie said. "The month. It's April. As in, past March."
"So…?"
"So my mother was born in March. And I forgot."
"I don't see how this has anything to do with anything at all."
"So I realized it today and now I'm pissed."
"At Jackson?"
"No, at me."
"You are not making sense."
"Do you know how I'm always saying someone up there hates me?"
"No." Deb said. "I don't think you've ever said that."
"Well, it's probably my mother! And now I know why!"
"Explain this." She turned to Jo.
"She's sabotaging her happiness." Jo explained. "I used to do it all the time."
"Screw this." Deb said. "I wanna be happy! I've got Henry and I'm happy! Let's be happy!"
"Sure."
So the alcohol came.
Don't you know things can change
Things'll go your way
If you hold on for one more day,
If you hold on
Can you hold on
Hold on baby
Won't you tell me now
Hold on for one more day 'Cause
It's gonna go your way
Alex, Henry and Jackson all arrived at the bar within a minute apart from each other.
They saw Lexie, Jo, and Deb at the bar, fighting with Jo.
"How do you think they got here?" Henry asked, looking at the mess in the bar.
"Vodka." Jackson replied, walking over to Lexie, with Henry and Alex following them.
"Joe." Lexie said to Joe. "No."
"Yeah?" Jo asked.
"Not you Jo, I mean Joe!" She said and she laughed.
"That doesn't make sense." Jo said, putting a hand on her head.
"Just give me your keys." Joe said.
"No." Lexie said. "Look who's here." She said, pointing to Jackson. "He can take me home. Right? I think he can do that. Right?"
"Right." Jackson answered.
"Who are Dave and Chloe?" Jo asked Alex. "And do you think I have hair like sunshine? I can paint it!" Alex just frowned upon that.
"Howdy, I've still got to pay!" Lexie realized. "How much is it?"
Joe gave her the bill and Lexie gasped.
"Crap."
She collected Deb and Jo's money and then got out her wallet.
Deb grabbed it from her and looked inside of it. "You don't have chocolate in there." She noted. "Hey, why is there a photo of Jackson Every… Avery?"
"He's next to my money." Lexie said.
"Aren't you only supposed to put your kid there?" Deb asked.
"No. Only… I-… I don't know." She laughed.
"Why do you have that there?"
"He's just like money." Lexie explained with a giggle.
"I don't understand that." Deb said with a chuckle. "Especially now."
"He's worth a lot." Lexie said. She brought her index finger to Deb's lips and said. "But shhh. Don't tell. He's not supposed to know that."
"He's here right now."
"He is?" Lexie asked. "Crap. He's never seen me drunk."
She brought the money to Joe who smiled.
"I liked chemistry." Lexie said to Jackson. "Back in high school, I liked it. Whenever I had that class, I was in my element." She then laughed.
"That's a bad joke." Jo said, giggling.
"I know." Lexie said. She went to Henry. "What did you want to be when you were young?"
"A fireman." Henry replied.
"I wanted to sleep with a fireman." Deb said giggling. "And I did! But he burned me badly."
"That's bad too!" Lexie laughed. "We are awesome."
"Team awesome!"
"And we get to be happy in the end!"
"Let's go get married!" Jo suggested to Alex.
"No." Alex said, and he got her out of the bar.
"Is it because of my hair? I think it gets close to sunshine."
Don't you know things can change
Things'll go your way
If you hold on for one more day
Can't you change it this time
The next morning, Deb and Lexie were having breakfast together, totally hung over.
"We won't really let her in team awesome, right?" Deb asked Lexie about Jo.
"Hell no."
"My head hurts." Deb complained.
"Mine, too."
"Go to you boyfriend." Deb said. "You're acting like a fool again and you know it."
"Yeah, I know."
Make up your mind
Hold on
Hold on
Baby hold on
Lexie took Jackson to the cemetery. She had white roses in her hand.
"Are you going to tell me why we're here?" Jackson asked.
They stopped at her mom's grave.
"I feel terrible." Lexie said. "I forgot her birthday. It passed and I didn't even know it. Not before Meredith punched me in the face. Then I remembered."
"Oh, Lexie…" Jackson said.
Lexie took out one red rose and put it next to her mother's grave, and the rest she put on it.
"Why'd you do that?" Jackson asked.
"There's a cat buried next to her grave."
"What?"
"I buried it there when she died." Lexie explained.
"I don't even want to know." Jackson said, before giving her head a kiss. "Do you miss her?"
"Every day."
A/N: So did you like drunk deb and Lexie? I did. I have a feeling you might be seeing them more. Hope you enjoyed and please review! Next one might be a while, I'm busy, hope you have a nice day!
