A/N: This is my first Megan and Tommy fan fiction so please be kind. I got the idea after watching the show from season 1 -3 and the most important thing is that you will like it and I apologise for any spelling errors and incorrect grammar, which I shall sort out as soon as possible, well enjoy!

Ok, so in this story Megan and Tommy's relationship had been on and off for 6 years whilst Megan was a resident at New York General and Tommy was a rookie in the police force but, once Megan's residency was over and one of Tommy's stupid mistakes slowly ended anything they had left.

So Megan moved back to Philadelphia feeling alone and vulnerable with a secret that she could no longer keep and her only option was to go to the one person she did not want to turn to.

Chapter 35 – Interior designer

Now that Todd and the girls weren't moving they had arranged for the girls to spend more time at Megan's and Megan was just thrilled knowing that they weren't moving and the fact that they had both agreed that they wanted to spend more time at Megan's apartment.

Megan sat crossed legged on the floor of Lacey's bedroom flick through colour charts and interior design magazines when Joan walked through the front door carrying a coffee for herself and one for Megan "Megan" Joan called out closing the front door behind her.

"I'm in hear mom" Megan called out and Joan walked into Lacey's room to see Megan crossed legged on the floor looking through Magazines "Your usual" Joan said handing Megan a warm cup of coffee "Thanks mom" Megan said taking it off her mother and wrapped her hands round the warm cup.

"This is the room you want to do with exactly," Joan said looking round at the dull cream walls "I want to make it nice for Lacey now that she is going to be staying with me more often and the same for Maddie's room" Megan said taking a sip of coffee.

"And you have this all worked out with Todd?" Joan asked sipping her coffee whilst she glanced at Megan.

"That's not what I invited you over for but, yes we have it all worked out and the girls wanted to stay more often. What do you think of that?" Megan asked holding up a colour chart and pointing to a green Joan smiled at her daughter

"I'll introduce you to my interior designer" Joan chuckled.

"Mom" Megan said raising her eyebrows but before she could say any more her phone buzzed

"Dr Hunt" Megan said whilst she looked at her mother knowing this was going to be work and she would have to say goodbye to her mother when she only just arrived.

"Morning Dr Hunt" Danny smiled at Megan

"Danny" Megan walked past her towards the body

"I'm Peter"

"Danny, nice to finally meet you, I've see you around"

When Peter caught up Megan watched him eye Danny, Peter turned back to see Megan giving him a look sighing, "Don't start ok?"

Megan smirked, as she bent down next to the body "no ID?"

"No and nothing from missing persons" Budd flipped though his notepad

Megan started examining the young girls wounds "Superficial wounds, nothing fatal … yet, oh" she moved the girl's arm outwards "that's a nice compound fracture to the left humorous"

"Well the divers had a rough time pulling her up from the rocks," Sam mentioned

Megan sighed in frustration "so some one bludgeoned her or the river or the divers or a combination of all three… Peter"

"Yeah?"

"Get water samples"

"You got it" Peter nodded and headed to the lake

"See you in autopsy" Megan called back as she walked towards her car

Todd pulled up to Kate's work "so I was thinking about taking a trip somewhere"

Kate laughed as if it was a joke "where?"

"Somewhere out of cell phone range"

"What about the girls?"

"Since where not moving away, Megan's been begging to spend more time with them which means more time for us" he smiled

Kate always cringed every time he said Megan's name, she took her seat belt off avoiding eye contact with Todd.

"You ok?" Todd asked rather concerned.

"Yeah, we'll talk about it later" she gave him a small smile before getting out of the car

Kate walked into the autopsy room hoping to forget about what she had to talk to Todd about and hoping to improve her day, which was a long shot thanks to the help of Megan Hunt.

Megan looked up from the body and frowned "Dr Murphy here to take another case away from me?"

Curtis shook his head mumbling "ohh hell no" and walked off not wanting to get involved.

Kate sighed she was not in the mood for Megan today "how about you just except the help" Kate said bluntly.

Megan smirked "why does that make me nervous?"

Budd had enough so he butted in "if you ladies are finished can we get started please?"

Sam flicked through her note pad "well we ran her prints and got ran through the FBI data base her name is Amy Green"

"Is there any chance this woman just drowned?" Budd sighed

"Ethan is pulling some blood then after a few tests we will know" Megan examined the wound on her arm.

"Ok this is weird I'm not getting any blood" Ethan said adjusting his glasses as he tried again.

"Try somewhere else"

"There are fibres under her nails we will need pictures Ethan," Kate told him while going to examine her other hand

"Ethan that's a great name" he pointed to Budd who just shook his head at the thought of calling his child Ethan.

"I can't find any blood in her arteries" Ethan said minutes later after trying a couple of times.

"Could it have washed away?" Sam asked curiously

"Even if she transected an artery there would still be some blood left," Megan explained

"Well I'm telling you there's no blood left in this woman's body" Ethan said glancing round at everyone who shared with looks of concern on their puzzled faces.

Megan ran into Lacey's room, well as much of as run she could do in six inch heels "it's a mess now but I've got this interior decorator … I mean designer helping me"

Lacey glanced at her sister "I thought it was fine before" Maddie nodded her head in agreement with her sister.

"Yeah for every other weekend but since your spending more time here now I want it to be nice" Megan smiled at her girls

Maddie looked at Lacey then back at her mom, "more time … here?"

Megan frowned slightly "that's what you said isn't it? That you wanted to stay in Philadelphia to stay with me?"

"Yeah and our friends and grandma" Lacey answered maybe a bit to quickly

"Yeah of course but… you want to spend more time … here right?"

Lacey looked at Maddie she really didn't want to hurt her mother but they still hadn't fully forgiven her

Maddie looked at her mother "… sure … well we had better got to school… bye mom"

Megan walked into her office to see her daughters and her mother "girls are you alright?"

"No they are not I got a call from them both very upset especially Lacey aren't you?" Joan looked at Megan.

"Ummm I … I guess … yeah" Lacey was fiddling with her hands

Kate knocked on the door and slowly walking into the room "hi umm Ethan said you wanted to see me?"

""Megan didn't I did, I wasn't able to reach Todd or he would have been here to, see your all making decisions for these girls without asking what they really want"

Megan frowned "I'm not the one who is trying to drag them to California"

"Wait I'm not making any decisions for anybody" Kate was confused

"So you're saying spending time at their house isn't your decision?" Joan raised an eyebrow

Ethan walked in then turned to leave when he realised what he walked into in

"Wait Ethan what is it?" Kate piped up, as she wanted to get out of this room

"Update on the trace under Amy's nails" Ethan said adjusting is glasses feeling slightly uncomfortable.

"Can't that wait?" Joan stood up from behind Megan's desk while Kate and Ethan snuck out of the office.

"No, it can't" Megan sighed "I'll talk to you later girls and mother … I don't even know where to begin!" she walked out frustrated.

"Thanks a lot grandma" Lacey looked at her grandma while Maddie sat on the sofa and sighed quietly.

Later that day Megan was walking to her office when she got a call from Peter who gave her the results from one of Amy's tests "… oh and your interior decorator called –"

"Designer"

"What?"

"Interior d- never mind what? What did she want?"

"You're not going to like it"

Megan barged into her mother's office "first you insist I use your designer then you tell her she can't work for me anymore"

"Megan-"Joan started but was cut off by Megan

"And by the way who the hell do you think you are to come to my office and lecture me about parenting?"

"Megan this is assistant district attorney Ben Allan, Ben I would like you to meet my daughter Megan "Joan said in a calm voice

"Hello" he smiled

Megan gave him an annoyed smile "could you excuse us for a minute?"

"Sure"

Once he had left Joan got up and took off her coat "he's good looking isn't he? Not that he would be interested in you after that entrance"

Megan did not care she was to annoyed at her mother at the moment "why did you cancel the designer?"

"Well in your office I realised that I was interfering"

that set Megan right off "Interfering?, you accuse me of doing to the girls what you have been doing to me my entire life, controlling everything, my schools, my career, you picked out the clothes I wear, the colour of my bedroom, the boys I should be dating" Megan could go on and on but stopped herself.

"Look at the results" Joan glanced at Megan.

Megan could not believe her mother "yeah look at them I resent the hell out of you for it"

"Maybe you should learn from it" Joan shrugged.

"Oh don't you worry Maddie and Lacey are never going to feel about me the way I feel about you" and with that Megan walked out of her mother's office slamming the door behind her.

Megan and Lacey walked through the door to Megan's apartment "where's Maddie?"

"She has cheer practice" Lacey dumped her bag on the sofa

"Lace I'm sorry if you felt like I was deciding everything for you I know it bugs me when people do it to me"

"It drives you nuts" Lacey chuckled.

Megan laughed "then I'm not going to do it any more truth is you have two homes now and two parents who love you both very much … now follow me"

Lacey followed her mother into her now empty room, with white walls "what happened?" Lacey said looking round rather confused.

"Nothing, it's yours to make it whatever you want it to be"

"Really? I get to design it?" Lacey could not help the big grin that spread across her face

"It's your room a place to dream and make decisions by yourself and if you want help I'll be Right here" lacey looked round the room planning Ideas occasionally looking at her mother smiling. Megan smiled as she watched lacey look round the empty room making plans and ideas how she was going to decorate it.
