"If that's what you want then I will leave, I'll have Hetty figure something out. Kensi I want you to know though that when I left I never meant to hurt you. I thought that I wasn't good enough for you not with the PTSD I had and all that I put you through. Be happy Kensi, you deserve that." Jack said as he stood up and walked out of the hospital waiting room. Just before he was about to walk out of the hospital and never see Kensi again Jack stopped when he saw a little girl taking steps towards Kensi. Carefully he stayed hidden but watched the moment unfold.
"Hey baby, mommy missed you so much." Kensi said wiping her eyes and picking up Sophie the minute the little girl was at arm's length.
"Mama, up." Sophie said meaning that she wanted up in Kensi's arm. She didn't fully understand what was going on but being in her mother's arms did give the child a sense of safety.
Jack smiled from his hiding spot, he was glad that Kensi was happy with this family. The little girl he saw snuggling in her arms looked as if she belonged there. Each of them somehow completed each other. Finally he left the hospital for good, leaving Kensi and his past behind for good.
NCIS LA
"Ms. Blye I just got word from the doctor that you are able to see him now. Although, they did warn me that he will be sedated for a while." Hetty said to Kensi, she knew that Kensi would want to be the first one to see her partner and make sure that he is okay.
"Thank you Hetty, will you take Sophie?" Kensi asked knowing that the sight of an injured Deeks would be too much for the young child.
"Of course, he's in room 217." Hetty said waiting for the baby to be brought to her.
'Alright Sophie bear go see aunt Hetty." Kensi said hoping that Sophie would let go of her without a fuss and to her relief she did.
NCIS LA
"Now I know that you were told he was sedated but I want you to be prepared for what you are going to see. There is a large bandage on his arm; he has some blood still on him from when he was brought in. We are expecting him to wake in within the next day to two." A nurse said to Kensi but in all honesty she wasn't listening. All she could focus on was seeing he partner again to make sure that he was indeed alive.
"Thank you." Kensi managed to choke out, finally she entered the room. The minute she laid eyes on her partner the breath was knocked out of her. Gone was the glow of his skin, instead it was sickly pale and begging to be kissed by the sun. However he was still her partner and he was alive.
NCIS LA
"You better not do this to me ever again or I swear I will shoot you myself." Kensi threatened him while she was sitting at his bedside and holding his hand.
Kensi then took a moment to truly look at her partner. She started with his hair, the same mop of golden locks he gets teased about daily but refuses to cut it. Secretly Kensi loves it but would never tell him that. Then there was his closed eyes, this might be her favourite physical thing about her partner. His eyes had a way about them that could reveal what he was feeling before anything else. There was the small scar on his nose from the time he was in the clutches of those evil Russians. Then she came to his mouth, the same one that spoke at times that were inappropriate but then said the best things. The same mouth that had an infectious smirk and the softest kisses Kensi treasured.
Her eyes then lowered to his chest and counted the scars on it. There were few that she knew the story of and most that he didn't talk about. She knew about the scars from the time he was shot in the store. Then there was the scar he got when he was little and his dad beat him for the first time. This was a part of him that Deeks didn't talk a lot about, but Kensi knew that he would when he was ready.
And finally Kensi stopped at her partner's arms, the ones that could do so much for her. The arms that could ward off all of her demons with a single embrace which was something Kensi loved most. She and Sophie needed those arms for so many things and sure it was elfish but Kensi didn't know if she could live without them.
NCIS LA
Sam walked into the hospital room knowing that Kensi must be exhausted so he wanted to give her a break. When he arrived in the room he saw that he was right. Exhaustion had taken over Kensi and she had passed out with her head on her partner's hospital bed but still held his hand.
"Kens, Kensi wake up." Sam said shaking her slightly. Kensi jumped up right away thinking something was going wrong.
"Go home, get some actual sleep. I'll stay here for you. Sophie is with Callen at his house." Sam said hoping that for once Kensi would listen to him on this. He understood that she wanted to look out for the man that she loved but she also had to look out for herself.
"Sam thank you but you and I both know that I won't get any sleep no matter where I am. You can go home really, go see Michelle and the kids." Kensi said to him and after a minute of hesitation Sam left again.
"You better wake up soon or else I might have to leave." Kensi said giving Deeks a kiss on the forehead before she got back to looking over him.

The morning sun shone through the window and started to wake Kensi up when the sun hit her eyes. Carefully she woke up and for a single moment she thought that maybe all of the events that had taken place was a terrible nightmare. However when she opened her eyes fully she realized that it was true, her partner had been shot and was now in the hospital.
"What are you doing?" Kensi asked when she realized that there was a nurse in the room and she was doing something to her partner.
'Oh don't worry honey all I'm doing is changing his bandages. By the way there is a group of people out in the waiting room wanting me to tell you that they can sit here while you go home for a while." The nurse told Kensi, sighing Kensi finally got up but not before she kissed Deeks on the forehead promising to be back.
NCIS LA
"Alright you guys can sit with him for a bit while I go to Callen's to pick up Sophie. But I want someone with him at all times and someone tell me if anything changes." Kensi said to the team, it took a lot out of her to actually leave her partner.
"Kens don't worry he's in good hands." Sam said to her, he was glad that Kensi was taking care of herself. He knew that Deeks would want Kensi to have everything she needed before she gave a thought about him.
"Well someone should go, he's alone which is something that I didn't want." Kensi said getting a little mad, the team laughed though knowing that Kensi would be back here before they knew it. There could be a lot said about Kensi and Deeks but overall they cared more about each other than anything else.
