Also, this story is based on Maya. She is my favorite character and I will be writing this story in relation to how I believe she is thinking. In the interest of not plagiarizing the entire game, I will find ways to skip unimportant dialogues and go straight to my own work.

Chapter 37

Let's Go Already

The ride back to Sanctuary was quite entertaining for Maya, although they had to go a little slower due to the extra cargo, Krieg's incoherent babbling kept her smiling.

"Well, as much fun as this ride was. We're here. Welcome to Sanctuary," Maya called out as they neared the gates.

Once in front they both got out of the Light Runner and Krieg immediately dashed to grab the supplies.

Wow, he's a sweetie. Too bad he can't seem to talk about anything other than death, blood, feces, and pain. Can't imagine what happened to get you that delirious…. Maybe I can ask Tannis or Zer0 if they can help him out.

Maya made sure to walk in front of Krieg to show him directions, this was also a precaution in case anyone tried to get smart with him. People around there were liberally close minded. They believed in an extreme point of view, which in this case was hate Jack and whoever worked for him, but refused to be open to any other type of person coming in. Let alone walking in for a seven foot tall psycho? Forget it.

She made sure to tell him about all the landmarks as they passed. Sanctuary was not the largest place so that wasn't very long at all. When they got to HQ Maya stopped, turned around, and lowered her voice, "Look here. You're new around here. You're a stranger, but I'm putting my neck on the line here that you aren't some kind of spy or a bullymong in Marcus' gun shop kay?"

Krieg stared intently at Maya for a moment before he forced a curt nod.

"Alrighty then, let's go," Maya jested and opened the door, "Sup boys?"

"Oh hey Maya. OH WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT!" Axton dove at Maya and dragged her down he tried to pull out his own pistol.

Maya was dazed from the sudden tackle, but thankfully Zer0 just spoke with Tannis and knew who the looming figure behind her was. Before Axton could inflict the new member any harm Zer0 tossed a pistol at Axton's hand.

"Hold fast your instincts / He is not the enemy / But rather a friend."

"What?!"

Salvador was bawling on the floor laughing, "OH MY GOD! YOU NEARLY SHOT HIM UP! AHAHAHA You dumbass!"

Axton got up defensively, "What?! What was I supposed to do? Maya comes in with this hulk of a human being behind her? I was trying to-OOF!"

When Maya finally gained her composure again she clocked him in the stomach, needless to say she was pretty pissed.

"You freaking asshole! Agh, my God. That was not protecting, you nearly broke me!"

Axton was still a little winded from Maya's blow, "Wow...Ow….I was just...worried. Jeez."

Maya felt a little bad about beating him that bad, but her own anger kept her from helping him up. She just limped to the nearest chair and threw herself down. Krieg was still standing at the door, unsure of what to do.

"Well? Don't just stand there! Bring in the packages so I can start checking the quality of merchandise," Tannis called from the balcony. Although she normally worked downstairs in the dark, over the day it was getting too crowded for her own taste so she moved to the top floor.

Krieg did as he was told, walking straight by everyone and heading upstairs.

"So, you gonna tell us who freakshow is?" Axton quipped when he managed to breathe again.

Maya shot him a nasty glare, "His name is Krieg. Don't be mean."

"Alright alright, sorry. Didn't know his name, but okay. What's Krieg doing here? How'd you two meet anyways?"

Maya told the team how they met, what happened, and why she brought him back to Sanctuary.

"HE SOUNDS BADASS!" Salvador was absolutely ecstatic to see Krieg in action, based on what Maya said Krieg can hold his own in a fight and more.

"Hm, I see. Agh, sorry about almost shooting the guy who saved your ass," Axton said apologetically, "I didn't know."

"And I'm sorry for beating you up…again," Maya replied.

Axton waved her off, "Eh shit happens. But can we get back to business? We're killing daylight here."

Zer0 jumped up at this suggestion, "I agree. We got all the necessary information from Lilith."

Lilith. Shit, I'm not getting over this anytime soon.

"Yeah sure, let's head out. I'll go ge-" as Maya was walking up the stairs everything went black.

"Shit! MAYA!" Axton tried to catch her, but he was a second too late. She fell back with a resounding thud.

Axton slid to her side and wrapped her in his arms, "MAYA! Shit Maya! What the fuck! Zer0!"

"Hold a moment, calm down Axton. Salvador pull him off!" Zer0 was wrestling to yank Maya, but quickly gave up that pursuit. Salvador bound over and ripped Axton off Maya.

Zer0 used his helmet to do a scan on Maya, after a few tense moments he gave a sigh of relief.

"She's fine. It seems that something caused her to strain herself again and she collapsed from over exertion. We have to let her rest a while," although this was good news Zer0 was still curious as to why this happened.

Krieg came back down to check on the commotion, when he saw Maya on the floor he ran at her then panicked. He just started pacing back and forth while screaming nonsense, "They all MUST DIE YOUNG! Crazy heroes deserve NO glory! Weak kill the strong!"

Overcome with anger Axton lunged out and punched Krieg, "SHUT THE FUCK UP! You loud-mouthed annoying piece of shit! This is no time for your fucking jibberish!"

As if he were a puppy punished by his owner Krieg cowered to the corner, hugging his legs as he rocked back and forth. He was trying to ask if Maya was okay, that she was playing hero trying to save him, that his weakness failed to protect her, but nothing came out right.

Krieg wasn't always so fucked up, he used to actually be a normal person who was quite handsome on top of that. But it all changed. Now all he could do was hold his psyche back from pulverizing Axton. Krieg's better half was commanding him to back down and not attack the soldier, it took all the strength in him to do that.

Seeing this sight hurt Salvador, he immediately rushed to Krieg's defense, "HEY! Leave the poor guy alone! He's not the one that hurt Maya! Dammit Axton calm your damn hot-HEAD BRAIN!"

Axton took a few long breaths until he finally relaxed. Whenever it came to Maya he was extra touchy, maybe it was because he cared for her or maybe he was just flexing his muscles, but for some reason whenever Maya came under any fire Axton was the first to blow a fuse.

"I'm sorry. I just…. I need a breather. Zer0 see what Maya needs and get it done okay? We need to get this shit over with before she goes out and kills herself," he turned to leave but paused right outside the door, "Thank you."

Zer0 didn't need to look up to know that he was crying, even though Axton always tried to be the big macho man no one could deny that he was a teddy bear at heart. As quickly as he could manage Zer0 picked Maya up and brought her to the only place he imagine that would keep her safe… And maybe even shed some light on Maya's black out.

"Hey, where you going?" Salvador called out when he noticed Zer0 leaving HQ.

"Lilith's place," Zer0 replied and before Salvador could protest he said, "Please don't argue or ask why. Just watch over Krieg for now okay?"

Salvador decided not to try and pick a fight today so he simply grunted and turned around to continue consoling Krieg.

Zer0's devices were top of the line, but there was only so much that even machines could tell someone. Maya was one of the rarest species of existences in the universe and thusly very little information on the physicality of Sirens was available to anyone at all. The only other person who would know a Siren is a Siren.

Once in front of Lilith's door Zer0 kicked a few times and waited. Within minutes Lilith finally answered the door, "What the fuck do you want now….What the fuck?"

Upon seeing Maya unconscious in Zer0's arms Lilith dove over to grab her while throwing a barrage of questions, "Is she okay? What happened? What's wrong? Did you guys do something to her? Was it a bandit? Well? Answer me!"

"Frankly we don't know. She's been rather strained over the past few days and when she tried to walk up the stairs she fainted, Maya is a strong woman so I'd have to say something is still internally wrong with her," Zer0 tried to explain. He waited for a reply but seeing as he wasn't going to get one he continued, "I figured that you're a Siren so you would know best what to do in this situation so I brought her here. No matter what happens, do NOT. I repeat. Do NOT let her come after us. We're going to try and infiltrate the Bloodshot hideout now."

Lilith normally didn't like taking orders, but put up with it this time, "Alright. I'll see what I can do. Tell me if you run into any trouble. Oh also, they are in The Dust. Once you get there honk at the gates and try to get them to let you in."

"Understood."

Zer0 rushed back to HQ, antsy to leave already. He knew that the moment Maya woke up she would run out to follow them so he wanted to get done with the rescue already.

"Hey look he's back. Let's head out," Axton tapped Salvador's shoulder when Zer0 came in.

"Great minds think alike / Let's depart and finish this / Before she gives chase."

Salvador nodded, "Yeah. That stupid bitch won't take us leaving her out of this one well… And uh, what about him?"

Axton looked over at Krieg, who was now moping on a bed, "Hey bro you wanna come? More fun beating shit up than sitting there."

"Burn time!" Krieg agreed enthusiastically.

"Alrighty then, let's go boys. Time to save Roland's ass."

Random Brain EXPLOSIOOOOON:

1) Still trying to figure out how I'm going to weave everything with Krieg in, on another note I will follow the fan belief that Krieg is the father of someone very notable in the series. So we'll see if I'm able to link that in for you all ;]
