Chapter 37.
"What?"
Evie and Oscar both continued to stare at Hannah.
"There was a mistake at the hospital. The babies were switched."
"What happens now?" Oscar asked.
"Brax, Ricky, Denny and I will have a discussion. Legally, Mathew belongs to Brax and Ricky and Issac belongs to Denny."
Evie got up from beside Oscar and hugged her sister. "I'm so sorry, Denny"
"So am I," Denny said.
"There's more. " Hannah said. "We discovered Denny had cystic fibroisis, there's a chance you two may have it"
The twins stared at their aunt some more, it seemed the shocks kept on coming. "How will we know?" Evie asked.
"Nate will test you," Hannah said.
Denny, Hannah, Oscar and Evie left for the hospital.
"Boys, there was a mistake, Issac isn't mine"
Brax shook his head.
"Boys, Ricky and I are raising Denny's kid"
"Brax, are you ok?" Ricky asked.
"Just practicing what we are going to tell the boys," Brax told Ricky.
"It'll be ok, " Ricky said, watching Brax get his phone out of his pocket and dial Kyle's number.
"Brax, what do you want?" Kyle asked as he answered his brothers call.
"Can you and Heath come over?" Brax asked.
"Why?" Kyle asked.
"Just do it" Brax replied.
"We'll be there" Kyle replied.
Brax put the phone down.
"What did Brax want?" Heath asked.
"Wants us to go over" Kyle told him.
"Might as well go now" Said Heath.
The boys left the house, heading next door.
Brax opened the door. "Ready?" He mouthed at Ricky.
Ricky swallowed. "I guess?"
"We are here, what do you want?" Heath asked.
Brax led the way in to the kitchen.
"Boys, Ricky and I have something to tell you,"
"What?" Kyle asked.
Ricky muttered, "I can't do this," and got up up from the table.
"Ricky," Brax called after her. He sighed. "Boys, Issac isn't my son"
"What do you mean?" Kyle asked.
"There was a mix up. "
"Who's raising your son?" Heath asked.
"Denny" Brax said and then left the kitchen to go and comfort his upset wife. "Ricky, come here,"
Ricky looked at Brax. "What are we going to do?"
"We need to talk to Denny." Brax said, trying as always to try to stay in control.
Heath and Kyle walked in to the living room. "Were, um sorry"
"It's ok, guys" Ricky said.
"If you need anything we are just next door" Heath said before he and Kyle left.
A few hours later, Nate called the twins back in to his office. As a favour to Hannah and to not keep the twins in too much suspense, he'd had the results rushed through.
"The test results show that," He said, "Oscar and Evie don't have the gene"
Relief flooded through the twins, but it was Denny who felt resentment. Why her?
They left the hospital, Hannah driving them all home. Pulling in to the drive, Hannnah stopped the engine. Denny got out and unlocked the door, heading striaght up the stairs. She picked Mathew up and held him.
"Do I give you up to your mum and dad?" she asked.
Oscar then stepped in to his sisters room. "What would Casey do if he was here?"
Denny shrugged.
"i think you need to talk to Brax and Ricky " said Oscar.
Denny realised her brother was right. She picked her phone up and dialled Ricky's number.
"Hello?" Ricky said.
"Ricky, it's me. We need to talk" Denny said.
"I know" Ricky replied. "
Meet me in Yabbie Creek in half an hour" Denny said.
Ricky nodded. "See you then" She replied, before the call ended.
"Well?" Brax asked.
"We are meeting Denny in half an hour" Ricky said.
This was it, their babies futures were being decided. It was going to be a tough decision, but one that had to be made.
Brax reached across and held Ricky's hand, stroking his thumb across it.
