Chapter 37

With a yawn Jade slipped out of her bed and tiptoed out of her hanger. There had been a lovely new addition added to the hanger that came along with beds for Jade and each of the children. Though nap time was still spent in a large pile on the play mat; that would probably never stop until they were older. Gingerly the red painted woman left the building and stretched as much as she could when the door was closed. She opened her mouth and let out a large yawn while her spine gave a loud pop.

"That doesn't sound good."

A squeak escaped Jade's throat and she spun around to see Ratchet standing just to her left with a data pad thing in his hand.

"Don' do tha' ta me, Ratche'!" she sighed, placing a hand to her chest to try and calm her racing heart, "an' it's nothin', jus' a habi' from the human days, ya know?"

Shudders crawled up and down her spine as the medic scanned her without warning. She huffed and glared at him while crossing her arms over her chest. He of course ignored her as he looked of the results.

"I'm tellin' ya there ain't a thin' wrong with me."

He glanced up at her then back at the data pad in his hands. "It appears that you're right," he responded, overlooking Jade's sleepy southern accented mutterings. "I was wondering what your plans for the orbital cycle were."

Having grown used to the terminology Jade didn't bother asking what an orbital cycle was. "I was plannin' ta ge' some food. Help Maze, Tech, Trap, and Healin' with their flyin' if they're up for it. Not sure what after that." The adoptive mother shrugged.

"I was wondering if you would let me have a look at a specific program that I noticed during your last maintenance check."

Tilting her head to the side Jade blinked. "Alright I guess, why don't we do that after I get something in my stomach?"

Not waiting for an answer Jade started walking to the cafeteria, or was it a canteen? Whichever it was it had something to fill her empty stomach. The amount of energon on base was small, but they weren't in danger of running out too soon so Jade had been spoiling herself by having at least one cube container, that was like a cup, of energon a day to go along with her oil. Ratchet had been trying to wean her off of the stuff since it was apparently bad for the body, but Jade compromised saying that if she needed to hide with the kids again that she wouldn't feel sick from the sudden diet change.

Once inside the cafeteria the woman covered a yawn as she walked over to the new energon dispenser and filled her cube cup. She turned to see a frowning Ratchet, but she just smiled at him before wandering over to Jazz's side. She sat down next to the silver mech that made her feel so happy and let their legs lightly brush under the Cybertronian sized table. He looked at her with a smile that Jade knew went to his eyes under that visor he always wore. He had shown her his eyes once and Jade felt special that she was one of the few that got to see them.

Silently Jade listened to the conversation around her as she drank her energon. She was been about to get up and leave when Jazz pushed a second full cup in front of her with a pointed look. Sighing defeat she drank the second cup, choosing to ignore the gross colored medic smirking across from her.

Having finished an unexpected second cup, Jade stood and left the table with a wave goodbye. She didn't forget to hug Jazz before leaving. Since the Sunstreaker incident Jade had decided that she needed to show Jazz more affection other than when she was upset. After all, she wanted him to know she liked him and that she wasn't just using him. Jade felt her fans kick on a bit as she remembered some of the kisses they had shared during those rare moments they had alone. Jazz may not have known much about human-like interactions, but he sure did learn fast.

"I'd stop whatever you're thinking about. You may mess up the scans." Ratchet's voice startled her and her fans kicked up a notch at the embarrassment of being caught day dreaming.

Pouting Jade followed the medic into the medbay and sat on one of the beds. At the signal she laid back and relaxed as the medical professional took his time gathering what he needed or double checking what he was going to do.

Suddenly she felt his fingers on her head, pressing small latches that gave under his gentle prodding. The red piece of metal that looked like a helmet came sliding off and Ratchet began softly moving wires with a scan running the entire time. It was weird having someone literally poke around in her head, but if there was something of concern going on in there then she trusted Ratchet to do his thing. He connected a few wires here and there, did more scanning, then he gave and astonished sort of hum. Then the wires disappeared and her helmet was reattached.

Blinking her eyes open Jade sat up and watched the rescue vehicle mess with something on the data pad. She knew the routine by now; you wait quietly for the grouchy medic to divulge the results. It was times like these where Jade wondered how none of the Autobots could figure that out? When she told the Decepticons they had listened and then worshipped the ground she walked on after trying her method.

"The program seems to be something that you were created with. What it does is allow you to create a semi solid holographic form of your choosing. This means that you could use the holoform to touch things and interact with the environment," Ratchet explained. "This is fascinating. Normally it would take a scientist creating such a program and then having it installed. Would you mind if I took these readings and see if I can replicate the program?" He looked at her with his pale blue eyes and Jade could see the excitement at possibly succeeding.

"Sure, have at it," Jade laughed.

"Could you active the program? I want to see how it works. It would be best if you lay down or were in your alt mode."

With a good natured shrug Jade let herself fell back down again. Closing her eyes she thought about what Ratchet had been talking about. Maybe it was that thing she did when it was just her and the first four kids?

When she opened her eyes next everything looked bigger, like she was an ant or something. Ratchet loomed over her scanning both her and what she assumed was her body on the bed. He carefully picked her up and held her up to his face. She wore her tattered blue jeans, ratty work boots, white tank top and blue plaid over shirt like she always did when using this "form" and her hair was still a mess of red tangled curls that she hadn't bothered to fix from the last use. Cheekily she put a hand on her hip and waved at him with the other.

"Hi!"

A chuckle escaped the mech and a smile came to his face. He looked a lot like he had just won the jackpot.

Then the door opened and they both turned to look at the intruder.

"'Ey Ratche', is Jade with ya? I wanted ta see if she—" Jazz trailed off as he caught sight of the medbay; Ratchet holding what must have been a human, and Jade's large body on the bed.

"Hey Jazz. Just give us a sec and we'll be done soon. Ratchet wanted to investigate something that was stashed in my head," Jade said and waved with a smile.

For a moment the music loving mech seemed to star at them, most likely blinking under the visor. Then a loud pop was heard and he fell backwards with a crash and visor dark like he was sleeping.

"Jazz!" She scrambled to the edge of Ratchet's hand to look at the fallen mech.

"It's just a processor crash he'll be fine," Ratchet chuckled as he turned back to scanning Jade's small human form, at least when compared to him.
