Chapter Thirty-Five: New Normal/Epilogue

It had been months since Demeter found the note. Building new forces took Macavity longer than he had anticipated. After his defeat, there weren't many that wanted to be on his team anyway. There were rumors spreading that he was going to seek residency outside of London, somewhere far away.

Whenever he's nearby Demeter is always the first to know – the tingling sensation that she felt on the first day they met, the odd sensation of being hypnotized, never faded when he was around. As Victoria grew, she too developed a sense of knowing when he was close, but it was never as acute as Demeter's ability. There was a time the white queen-kit felt she had been tricked by Demeter – which she had been – but she found herself able to forgive the older queen, and the two of them remained good friends.

Demeter's daughter with Munkustrap didn't first-handedly know the horrors that were Macavity. Jemima only knew what she overheard the others say. She would especially listen when it was Victoria who spoke, since the white kit had played such a crucial role in all the hubbub that Jemima had missed before being born. Would this ginger cat show up again someday, or would he keep his distance? She didn't know, part of her young self also didn't care. Her days were filled with playing, learning, and cozying up to her parents at nap time. If Macavity the Mystery Cat ever did turn up, Jemima was sure to stay close to her mum, that is after all what her mum and dad always told her.

Paranoia became Demeter's best friend for a while, but lately the days have been ordinary in the best way possible, and she had Munkustrap more than anyone else to thank for that. She may have been taken by the crimson thief, she may have had part of her life scarred for as long as she lives, but it was her silver tabby who rescued her, who calmed her when the nightmares plagued her, who promised never to leave her. So she may have been taken by the crimson thief, but in the end she was saved by the silver hero.

A/N: And that's all, folks.
