Chapter 35 Popcorn:

Ahk wandered through the halls, Anubis following on his heels. He was too restless to read or do anything that required sitting still. The sound of a soccer game could be heard from the lobby, which he made sure to steer clear from. Though Nicky was playing soccer, and he had joined the game after he gave up trying to convince the pharaoh to play too.

Ahk passed by the staff room and pause mid stride. He had technically never explored in there, which of course meant looking through the drawers and cabinets. Walking into the room he went towards the kitchen area, and that quickly proved itself to be boring as there were only dishes, silverware, and food.

That is until he pulled out an open box labeled Microwave Popcorn. He took out one of the bags inside, and began to open it. Curious as to how the food displayed on the box could fit in such flat packaging. After removing the plastic wrapping and a lot of ripping Ahk finally got it open. Peering inside all he found were a bunch of small orange kernels.

"Huh, this doesn't look like the box at all." The only response he got was a twitch of an ear from Anubis. Turning the bag over, causing the contents to spill on the ground, Ahk noticed instructions. After reading them he grabbed another bag and placed it in the microwave. It was silent for about the first minute before the first couple kernels popped unexpectedly. This causing Ahk to take a surprised step back and had Anubis yelping loudly and dashing around the room in a panic.

After the popping stopped and smell of something burning started, the young pharaoh quickly took the bag out of the microwave. Opening it he was surprised to find the orange kernels were gone and in their place was the food on the box. Anubis approached cautiously, but his nose was in the air as he smelled the food, and his tail began to wag happily.

"I wonder if they all do this…" Ahk wondered out loud.

Nicky, having left the soccer game, paused on his way to the Egyptology Exhibit to find Ahkmenrah, when he smelled the popcorn. He made his way to the staff room, expecting to find his dad. He definitely hadn't been expecting to find six open bags of microwave popcorn on a table, with Ahk putting another one in the microwave. He then noticed Anubis under the table, muzzle deep in a bag, and tail wagging a mile a minute as he ate the popcorn. After hearing footsteps Ahk turned to see Nicky and he smiled.

"Nicky, I have found food that possesses magical abilities!"

"…..Uhhh…." The young boy really had no idea how to respond to that.
