Crazy Stupid Love
Chapter : Thirty-Five
"Will you tell me about it?"
"About what?" Tyler asked as she sighed and relaxed further into Fred's embrace. They'd gone back to the room of requirement after it had been emptied, and just curled up in front of the fire with a bunch of blankets. It was the most at peace Tyler could remember feeling in a long time.
She couldn't pretend to forget, or ignore the war raging inside of her. The dangers both she and Fred faced now she'd let him back in. But a part of her forced herself not to dwell on it, to just accept that there were some things she was going to have to learn to live with.
She'd learned to accept worse.
Tyler almost hated herself, she spent months convincing herself to let him go, let everyone go. And all of a sudden she'd just changed her mind. Like a scared little girl that needed to be coddled, she'd broken down and let him back in after spending so long pushing him away.
But she really didn't care.
"About your time away." Fred replied as she stiffened. That was one thing Tyler prayed Fred would never ask about, because if he knew what she'd done, what she was capable of, what they had done to her... he'd never look at her the same way again. And Tyler wasn't sure if she could handle that. Sure, there were many things in this life she could look past, but Fred... Fred was different.
"I don't think I can."
"Please Tyler? I just want to know, I want to be able to help you get through this. If I knew what it was like maybe I could be a better help. Besides, maybe that's what you need. Maybe you need to talk to someone." he offered as Tyler sat up and pulled out of Fred's embrace. All she wanted was one night, they'd had enough breakthroughs and heart to hearts for a week already in the past few hours she just wanted a few more hours with Fred pretending there was nothing else out there, she just wanted to forget everything for a little while longer.
"Please don't ask me to do this Fred. I just got you back, I can't lose you again."
"What makes you think you'll lose me love? I'm not going anywhere."
"Fred there were a lot of things I had to do while I was gone to survive, things that some people could never even dream up in their worst nightmares. I spent a long time trying to forget it, forget all of it. What I did... what I had to do. I wouldn't wish on anyone." Tyler sighed as she felt a part of her drift off to a dangerous place in her mind. One where she was all but consumed by the nightmares again, reliving the terror she tried so hard to suppress since she got back. The cold black nights, the screams of terror... all that pain.
So much pain.
"Tyler there's nothing that you could tell me that would make me think any different of you. I promise you that." Fred told her with so much conviction, so much promise. He just sounded so sure of himself.
But Tyler knew people, and she knew Fred. She knew how good he was, how pure his heart was.
And how ruined it would be if he knew what had really happened.
She offered him a sad smile but shook her head with a smile, she wanted to tell him... at least she kind of did. But it still seemed too soon. Like the wounds would still break open if she tugged even the smallest bit, and she wasn't prepared for that. Not here, not now.
"Fred, I-" Tyler was suddenly cut off when professor McGonnagal's patronus manifested before them and called for their attention. She requested them in Dumbledore's office... something had happened at the ministry.
With a fleeting look between the two of them Fred and Tyler made their way to the Griffin statue that lead to Dumbledore's sanctuary. The pair were uncharacteristically silent as they made their way up the stairs. What Tyler met at the top of those stairs was nothing like what she expected. She assumed they meant to reprimand the two for indecent behavior or something along those lines, but what really was waiting for them was much worse.
All the Weasley children were sitting in the office with a very shaken looking Harry Potter. But he wasn't just shaken, Tyler knew the look in his eyes.
The look of death.
Without even thinking she stepped forwards and wrapped Harry in a hug. Silence blanketed the room once again as she just held a tearful Harry.
Tyler knew what it was like. She knew what it felt like. Whatever happened, whatever he had or hadn't done she knew what he was going through. She could see it.
"Fred, it's dad. There was an attack at the ministry, Harry saw the hole thing, his link... it... well he let us know. We're going to St. Mungo's to see dad." Ron offered as Harry pulled from Tyler's grip and without looking her in the eye joined the rest of the Weasley's near the fireplace.
"Your mother is waiting for you there." Proffessor McGonnagal cut in as without a second thought everyone began moving. Tyler stood frozen, she didn't know what to do. She half expected a goodbye, or at least a last fleeting look before taking off but she really couldn't blame him for not giving her a second thought. This was his dad they were talking about, had hers been alive she probably would have done the same thing.
"Miss O'Mally, it would probably be best for you to go as well."
"But Professor, I don't really know Mr. Weasley all that well and-"
"Not for Mr. Weasley Tyler... I guess there was an accident involving Micheal last night."
Tyler felt her heart drop as she merely nodded her head silently before watching the Weasley's depart. Catching Fred's gaze as he simply stared back at her expressionless before stepping back into the fireplace and disappearing.
"What happened?" Tyler turned to Dumbledore, all traces of her past thoughts surrounding Fred dissipating as she turned to the matter at hand.
"What do you mean?"
"You said accident because there were kids present." Tyler's voice had grown cold, distant... emotionless. "Well now they're gone. So what really happened? Because Micheal doesn't have 'accidents'."
"There was an attack last night. Micheal fought back but he was hurt pretty badly, he sent his patronus to the Order for help, but we couldn't get to him before he suffered some major injuries. We're looking into the attack but the Ministry wants it left out of the papers... the dark mark was present when the aurors arrived."
"Thank you." Tyler managed to choke out after minutes of silence before going to the floo herself and departing for St. Mungo's.
When she arrived the hole place was alive. Filled with monitors beeping and nurses and medi-witches coming and going. Different cries resonated throughout the hospital floor and Tyler winced. Cries of despair, anger, sadness... new born cries, cries from people saying goodbye to loved ones. Cries for help. They echoed throughout the hallways. Tyler felt almost sick. Between the sterile smell, the sounds, and the feel of death in the air.
"Miss?"
Tyler faintly heard the sound of someone calling to her but it took a minute for it to register. "Miss can I help you?" she turned quickly to hear the nurse.
"Uh... ya I'm looking for Micheal-"
"You're Tyler O'Mally... oh Merlin. Right this way dear I'll take you right too him."
"Whats going on whats wrong? I thought it was just an accident. What-"
"Oh honey, you need to see your friend." the nurse said and Tyler felt her heart stop.
"Tyler?! Tyler!" once more she faintly heard Fred's voice registering in the back of her mind calling out to her, but it all took a backseat to the body lying on the bed in front of her. Broken, bloody, and barely alive.
"Tyler!" the voice called out again as she fell grief stricken to her knees.
No.
Not Micheal.
God couldn't be that cruel.
He couldn't.
She couldn't lose him too.
She couldn't lose him too.
