Chapter 37 – Making Amends

"Brennan"

"How are you doing this morning? You were gone when I woke up."

"I'm fine. I had to finish an identification and complete the paperwork on our last case. You looked so peaceful and you really needed the rest, I didn't want to wake you."

"No that's fine. I just hate waking up without you. I missed you that's all."

"I missed you to Booth. What else is on your mind?"

"What makes you think something else is on my mind?

"Booth?"

"Are you going to be busy for lunch? I do have something to talk to you about but I don't want to do it over the phone."

"The diner?"

"No how about Wong Foos? I'll pick you up at 12."

"Is that to early for you?"

"No that's fine. I'll see you then."

"I love you."

"I love you too Booth."

After hanging up Bones wanted to know what he wanted to talk about. At this point it could be a number of things. Just then there was a knock on her office door. "Come in"

"Good morning Dr. B. Do you have a few minutes I would like to talk to you about Angie?" Hodgins looked hopeful. The two haven't spoken unless it was work related for the last two weeks.

"What can I do for you Dr. Hodgins?"

He took that as a yes and came in closing the door quitely behind him. Sitting in the chair across from her desk he said, "First let me say congratulations on your pregnancy. Your going to make an awesome mom. I'm sorry that Angie blurted your secret out the way she did."

"Jack it wasn't her secret to tell." She looked down saddend by the behavior of her friend.

"I agree Dr. B. I have talked to Angie about what she did and she is sorry. You mean so much to her. She has never had a close female friend like you before. I am the first to admit that she goes over board a lot. She means well though. She misses you and your friendship. She can be possessive and overbearing and at times down right intolerable but she also has a huge heart and she loves you like a sister. When I talked to her to find out where her head was she explained that she's a little jealous now because she feels like she is losing you to Booth. Before Booth you and Angie went out, you talked about everything, there were no secrets. Things are changing and she doesn't know how to deal with that."

Thinking about what Jack just told her Bones looked up at him and then said, "We all grow and evolve Jack. Angela acting like an adoledscent acting out on the playground when her friend goes off to play with someone else is unsatisfactory. When she became involved with you and the times we went out were limited I didn't behave this way. When the two or you got married and started going on vacations just the two of you I didn't insist that I go along under the rules of best friends whatever. When you guys announced your pregnancy I was geniually happy for you both, I didn't ridicule her because she didn't tell me first. It wasn't my place to know first just like it wasn't her place to know first. The person who should have known first was Parker. Instead he had to find out from my father and now Booth and I are still dealing with the blowout from that. I haven't stayed with Booth since Parker found out." Looking out into the lab trying to get her emotions under check she took a deep breath willing the unshed tears not to fall she continued, "Angela has to understand its not just me anymore. I also have a family and unlike you Booth values his privacy. I respect that and what happens between us has nothing to do with her or our friendship. I don't expect to know what is going on in your relationship. Angela has to learn that she can't cross boundraries whenever she feels like it. She's not as open as she wants others to be and its not fair."

"I hear you Dr. B. Maybe you should tell her these things. Hopefully she'll listen but I do know that she is sorry. She doesn't know how to talk to you about it. I don't want to see a friendship ruined."

"I'll have to think about it Jack. Like I said before its not just me. And she can't honestly respect my right to privacy and respect our boundraries than I don't know what kind of friendship we can have. Being friends with her is making my life difficult and I don't deal well with difficult."

"What happened with Parker Dr. B?"

"He was very upset about the babies and he's not very accepting and he doesn't want to share Booth. In fact he wants things to go back to the way they were before we were in a relationship. He's also refusing to go to the after school program here at the Jeffersonian. Booth has to pay one of his collegules daughter to watch him after school. I stayed with Cam the first night he found out when my dad came barging in and I've been at my apartment since. Last night Booth stayed at my place because Parker was with his mother but he's coming back to Booth today because Rebecca has to go out of town for work. All of this could have been avoided if she would have just minded her business. I'm so tired of talking about this. I really am Jack. I understand as she is your wife and you want to make it better for her, but I don't know if I want to make it better for her. What is it going to take for her to finally get it. Will she be satified if I was alone and only depended on her to be there when she wasn't busy with you or your baby?"

"I'm sorry your having a tough time right now. It shouldn't be this way, you should be happy and celebrating and glowing. I promise as your friend that I will make sure she understands. Just give Parker some time he will come around. You and Booth need to keep on doing things as you normally would. Parker has to see that he doesn't run things. Don't let him call the shots. He's a great kid don't get me wrong, but no matter how he acts he will no longer be Booths only child. Those twins are coming whether he wants it or not. He'll just have to learn how to deal. He'll come around.

Booth walks into the office and says, "Bones are you ready to go?" Taking a look around the office he noticed that Hodgins was sitting at the desk and Bones looked like she was about to cry.

"What's going on in here?" said Booth

"Nothing Booth, Jack and I were just catching up. Yes, I'm ready we're done here." Bones stood up and got her things and walked towards Booth. Turning around as Jack stood up to take his leave she said, "Thanks Jack. I appreciate it."

"Booth I'll meet you by the sliding doors I have to go see Cam before I leave."

"Look ummm Booth congratulations to you man. I'm sorry it came out the way it did. I was just talking to Dr. B about that. I told her that I will talk to Angie, I'll do my best to get her to back off. I know what she did was wrong and Dr. B was just telling me that things are still not looking up for you guys as far as Parker is concerned. I'm sorry about that man."

"Yeah thanks Hodgins. I don't know what to do about it. Bones feels we shouldn't push him so she's staying away like he said, but it just doesn't feel right. The night it all blew up in our faces she heard us talking and left the apartment. I didn't know where she went until Cam called me and told me that she showed up there. If I have Parker I don't even hear from her unless its through a text message and its only after his bed time. Parker is over the moon and me and Bones we're miserable. Before this I've been trying to get her to move in with me and now I can't even bring it up to her. I feel like I'm losing her because she feels like she's making me choose between her and Parker."

"Man I 'm going to tell you what I told her. You can't let Parker have his way. He is dictating the way things are going to be and you guys are letting him. He's a kid, take back control. Show him the way things are going to be and that he still has a place there. That nothing is going to change. Becauase whether he likes it or not you guys are having twins, those babies are coming and he's going to have to share and the sooner you guys get him on board the easier its going to be once they come. I'm going to find Ange. Let me know if you guys need anything. Anything at all and I'll talk to Ange."

"Thanks Hodgins. Your right and I appreciate the support. I better go before she gets cranky."

They both leave the office and Booth goes to find Bones and Hodgins is off to find his wife. Bones was just coming out of Cam's office when he got there. "Let's go eat Bones."

Angies's office

Closing the door behind him Hodgins said, "We need to talk and I really need you to stop what your doing and listen. I mean really listen. Do you understand what I'm saying?"

"Yeah, what's going on? Why do you seem so serious?" She put down her paint brush and came to sit on the couch next to her husband.

"Because I am serious Angie. If you want to be able to fix your friendship with Dr. B, you will listen to what I have to say."

"It was just a misunderstanding Jack, we'll be fine. Don't worry so much."

"Damn it Angela! What in the hell is it going to take to get it through that thick skull of yours, its not a misunderstanding you fucking crossed the line here. You know I take some responsibility for your actions because I don't call you on your shit when I should but if you don't shape up your going to lose your "best friend" And you know what? She would be in the right. I had a long talk with Dr. B this morning and you crossing the line this time not only did you ruin their announcement but now because of you and your mouth, things are messed up at home because of Max."

"I had nothing to do with Max., I haven't even seen Max" She crossed her arms over her chest.

"Lets see how does this relate back to you, Oh, yeah you just stood on the platform and announced to the entire lab that she was pregnant with twins. Then Max comes over and someone congratulates him, he's pissed now goes to Booths while Parker is there and blurts it out in front of Parker whom they were going to tell later that night. Only now Max blurts it out and now Parker wants nothing to do with Dr. B nor the babies. Max and Parker would have found out when they wanted them to, how they wanted them to if you hadn't went through her stuff and made a fool out of your

self yelling it in the lab ANGIE. Fuck wake the fuck up. You were wrong. What goes on bewteen Dr. B and Booth is none of your business. A relationship is between a man and a woman not between a man, woman and her best friend. You know people think she is clueless but she really isn't."

"I use to be her go to person Hodgins. And now I'm like everybody else. It's not fair?"

"Do you consider me to be your best friend?'

"Yes of course I do Jack?"

"Do you tell me things that you don't tell Dr. B?"

"Yes"

"Does that not make her your best friend because she doesn't know something that I know?"

"Of curse not?"

"When we found out you were pregnant, what did we decide?

"That we would wait until after the first trimester to tell anyone because of the risk of miscarriage?"

"Did that include Dr.B?"

"Yes it would have been harder if something happened and other people knew. She would have understood that?"

"Then tell me why none of those things apply to her. You should have given her the same consideration that you expected. Her risk wasn't for one kid but two. You don't tell her everything and she doesn't have to tell you everything. It doesn't change your friendship. Your on a slippery slope to this friendship ending. She is in a relationship with Booth not you. They have a right to privacy just like we do. You need to apologize and then back off. You are going to have to earn her trust again. I really don't know how your going to fix it. But from here on stay out of their business." He got up and left the office.

"Jack! Jack!" Max was running up to him before he could get away.

"What can I do for you Max?" Clearly he's agitated and pissed at Max as well.

"I was looking for Tempe but she's not in her office is she in limbo?"

"No Max she went to lunch with Booth."

Rolling his eyes Max said, " You would think Booth would give her a chance to have lunch with someone else since they are practically living together."

"You really have some balls don't you Max?" Hodgins said through clenched teeth.

"What the hell are you going on about?" Max asked confused by this mans attitude.

"Since you ran into Booth's house and dropped that little bomb in front of Parker, he's been giving them a hard time. Dr. B has been staying at her apartment and they only see each other at work. So yeah I can't blame the man for trying to get as much time with her as he can."

"I didn't know the kid wasn't aware that Tempe was pregnant. I had a right to know to, but I should have been told by her I'm her father."

"You know Max after what Dr. B did for you in court, she doesn't owe you a damn thing. The way I see it, you owe her your life because you should still be sitting behind bars for murder of a federal agent. Whether is was no good or not wasn't your call. Hasn't she done enough for you? Does she have to sacrafice her family to?" Looking at both Angie and Max with digust he walked away mumbling about ungrateful people.

Wong Foo's

"My favorite couple! The bone lady and the suit."

"Hello Sid"

"Hey Man, can we get a booth in the corner?"

"Yeah go ahead and seat yourself, I'll grab your drinks and put your order in."

"Thanks"

After taking their seat "Booth leans over towards Bones and says, "First things first" then pulls her into a gentle kiss.

"Not that I'm complaining but what was that for?"

"Do I have to have a reason to kiss the woman I love, the mother of my children?" He smiles his charm smile at her.

"Well then thank you." She flashes him that smile that is only reserved for him.

"Here are your drinks and your food will be up soon."

'Thanks Sid"

Taking a sip of his drink Booth eyes Bones over the rim of his glass. Clearing his throat he said, "So you know Parker will be staying with me this week since his mother is out of town. I wanted to know if you were planning on staying with me this week?"

Rubbing her finger along the rim of her own glass she never looked up when she replied, " I think its best if I continue to give Parker some space. I don't want him to feel like his feelings don't matter." Her last words were spoken on a whisper.

"I disagree. I wanted us to come up with a plan together but after talking to Hodgins and listening to you now, I know exactly what we are going to do. I want you to stay with me this week. We have to show Parker that he still has a place in our life and I have to show him that I will still make time for just the two of us, but his feelings aren't going to stop the birth of those babies and it won't change the fact I am their father and I love them just as much as I love him. We have to show him that he's not running things. Parker is use to getting his way but its not going to work this time. I made an appointment with a realitor for this weekend, we are going to look at some more houses. I also gave her your email address so that she could email you the listings. I figured you would want to do your research on them before we go."

Thanking the waitress for their meal, Bones looked up at him and said, "I still haven't agreed to move in with you and Parker...

Holding up his hand to stop her from ranting he said. "You and I are going to be parents to two little ones in a few short months. I want you and I to share a home and the responsibility of caring for them. When they cry in the middle of the night, I want to be there. I want to help with feedings, bath time, bed time. The good and the bad Bones. Just – look at the listings and tell me what you think okay.

"Okay Booth we will try it your way. I'll also look over the listings and give you my opinion."

"That's all I ask baby."

Later that evening

"Dad why are you making all that food?"

"Well this here is for Bones. I am making a little extra because of the babies. And this here is for us."

"Is she coming over for dinner?" Booth could hear the disappointment in his voice.

"Yes she is and she is staying. When she gets here the three of us are going to sit and have a nice talk about what is expected and what is unacceptable. Do you understand?"

"Yeah I guess."

Not sure how her presence would be received she decieded to knock on the door instead of using her key. She knocked softly three times on his front door. After what felt like forever Booth answered the door while drying his hands on a dish towel.

"Bones hey come on in. Why didn't you use your key?"

"I um."

Booth noticed she was looking around most likely searching for Parker. He noted she seemed hestitant and somewhat nervous. He pulled her into his arms and whispered in her ear. "He is just a child. We the adults, we make the rules. He won't like all of our rules but that doesn't mean we don't make them. Do you understand?" He felt her nod her head against his chest. "Okay now relax. Why don't you go in the room and change into something comfortable and then join me in the kitchen. I have something for you." He smiled at her and she couldn't help but smile back. Logically she knew he was right.

"I'll meet you in the kitchen." She leaned up and kissed him softly on the lips. Then went into his room. Once she was in the room she began undressing and putting on a pair of yoga pants and a tank top. Taking a deep breath she opened the door and walked out of the room. On the way to the kitchen Parker also came out of his room just as she was walking up the hall.

"Hello Parker, how was school?"

"Parker"

He continued to ignore her and went in the living room to watch tv until his dad called him for dinner.

"Do you need any help preparing dinner Booth?"

Booth heard what took place in the hall and decided to nip it in the bud right now.

"Nope everything is all taken care of. Here I picked this organic juice up for you at the store today."

"Thank you Booth."

"Come with me." He grabbed her hand and pulled her into the living room. He led her to the couch and told her to have a seat. Walking over to the tv and turning it off, he addressed his son. " Parker you will not be rude to any adult in my house. What you do with your mother stays there. I will not accept that type of behavior here do I make myself clear?"

"Yes sir."

"Bones and I did not plan for you to find out about the pregnancy this way but now you know. We can only move on from here and we are going to have to adjust to the changes our family will be going through. For the past two weeks, I have allowed you to dictate how things were going to go and I was wrong. I have also allowed Bones here to step back and that was also wrong. Look I love you both. I love these babies. Whether you like or not they are going to be here. WE are going to be a family and you will have to get use to the idea you will no longer be the only child. I love you and Bones loves you, we are not going to love you any less because of the babies. Now Bones here have stayed away to give you some space and time to adjust to this new change. I also let her know that staying away wasn't going to change anything. As a family we have to learn how to make this work. Bones and I are trying we need you to also try Parker. Because I am not going to turn my back on her or our kids just to appease you. It doesn't work that way. Now do you have anything to say."

"It doesn't matter if I do. You're just going to do what you want to anyway."

"Parker we were happy with each other and the way things were going befe you found out about the babies right?" asked Bones

"Parker" Booth said sternly when he realized Parker wasn't going to answer. "What did I just tell you about being rude? When Bones is talking to you – you will answer her do I make myself clear."

"Yes sir."

"Yeah Bones."

"You believed that your and I loved you right?

"Yeah"

"You loved us right?"

"Yeah"

"Other than knowing that you are going to be a big brother, what else has changed?"

"The babies are going to live with dad all the time. He's going to spend more time with him than I am. It's not fair. I didn't get to see him every day."

"Parker I'm sorry that you were denied the chance to see your father every day. That's not what he wanted for you. He wanted to be with you every day. As you know your mother controlled when he was allowed to see you. I don't think that was fair of her but I can't do that to your father. It really hurt him when he had to take you back, or when your time was cancelled. Do you remember how you felt when you made plans with your dad and then your mom changed her mind? Or when you had to go back to your moms after spending time with your dad? Is that how you want the twins to feel? Do you want me to hurt your dad the way your mom did by denying him access to his children?"

They waited while Parker thought about what was being said. Then out of no where he said. "I don't care, it's not fair. Nobody even asked me if I wanted a brother or sister. You just did it."

"Well Parker, Bones and I are the adults and we decide what we want. You have to understand that we didn't have to ask you for permission and once you get that through your head we can get somewhere. Now I see you just want to be stubborn about this so you go ahead and fight it all you want. It will be a fight you do on your own. I love you with everything in me but I also love the twins. I want the same things for all of my children. I have never denied you and I won't deny them. In the mean time know this, I will not tolerate you being disrespectful, talking back, ignoring us when we talk to you. If you are asked a question young man you will answer, if you are told to do something you will do it. No talking back either. And you better check that tone. Now I am going to go and finish dinner and you can go and wash up."

"Yes sir."

Parker got up and went to do as he was told. Bones and Booth stood up to go to the kitchen when Booth pulled her into his arms and placed a gentle kiss in her hair and said, "I love you. You're not alone in this. I will be with you every step of the way just don't shut me out." Holding him a little tighter she said, "I love you to. And I love Parker as if he was my own child. I just hope he learns to accept the twins and love them just as much as they will love him."

"He will. He's just being difficult now. It'll pass baby. Now come on. You can set the table while I finish up."

They walked hand in hand to the kitchen to complete their tasks.

A/N: I'm not very happy with the ending but I think you get the idea. I didn't want it seem like Booth was ignoring Parkers feelings but he had to put an end to this so that Parker didn't feel like he could get away with this behavior.
