Of Eyes And Fangs

Chapter thirty five

The hell?

What the hell?

What the hell happened to his house? When had those trees gotten there? He'd given Kagome seeds, seeds. The blasted things would grow at a quicker than normal pace, due to them being of demonic origin, but the damn tanuki never said they would grow that fast.

Hiei shivered visibly as he stepped through the barrier, impervious to his Jagan's illusions, and felt as holy energy crawled along his exposed flesh and caressed his aura. The feeling was foreign, he never had the displeasure of encountering a priestess before and he was sure that if he ever had, the reiki that was touching him almost curiously now would not be so peaceful.

Ruby colored eyes stiffly took in the four, enormous trees that stood in all their leafy glory behind the house, providing an impressive amount of shade. The bark was an off white color, with splotches of green here and there along the trunk and the leaves were a strange crescent shape, uncommon even in the demonic plants of the Makai.

This was why the seeds had been so pricey, though he got them relatively cheap compared to other buyers. The fruit that particular species produced was incredibly sought after, as it provided the same benefits as a full course meal.

The fruit was shaped much like the leaves of the tree it came from, crescent with a peach-soft golden peel. If he squinted, he could see lemon colored flowers already budding on its branches.

And just how had the three year old human managed to raise in one hour what took at least a month of slow growth for the exotic plant? It obviously involved the powers he'd thought she didn't know about. Hiei walked leisurely to where he could feel the girl, turning a thought over in his head. Kagome's training would have to start sooner than anticipated if she could do that much already.

The apparition found his charge dozing off by the roots of the four trees, leaves in her hair and a twig or two on her curled form. Her eyes fluttered open when he was a few feet away and she straightened immediately, acting like she'd been caught with her hand in the proverbial cookie jar.

"I didn't mean to play with them, honest!" She defended herself from an accusation he hadn't had the chance to make.

Hiei sighed through his nose and instead craned his neck to look at the leafy canopy above him. "Not bad, girl."

She beamed happily at the praise but then her expression soured and she looked at him quite crossly.

"Kagome, Hiei-san! Ka-go-me!"

"Hn."

Theme: Growth

I don't make Hiei say 'hn' often, since most of the time he says other /not so nice/ things. I like his deliberately snarky attitude.

Thoughts?
