"So, Goblet of Fire. What did everyone think?" Donna Tyler asked.
The past few days had fallen into a nice little routine: premiers in the afternoon and evening, sleeping-in in the mornings, and discussing the previous night's film over lunch. Sarah Jane had quickly become a full-fledged fan and had very passionate opinions.
"They left out Winky!" she exclaimed. "And S.P.E.W.! That was one of my favorite parts of the book, not to mention in Hermione's character development."
"I know!" Martha said empathetically. "But I suppose they just didn't have time."
"They did Cedric's death scene really well," Clara said.
"It was beautiful," Donna Noble agreed. "Clara, your eyes are still red from the crying."
"No, don't make me think about it!"
"Honestly, though," Melody said. "They could have made that into two films. They cut so much out of the Quidditch match."
"If they had done two movies for each book," Donna Tyler added. "Then it would be perfect."
"Does anyone else think that Barty Crouch Jr. looks like the Doctor?" Martha asked.
"That's what I was thinking the whole time!" Sarah Jane said. "Was it actually him?"
"No, not really," Donna Tyler explained. "Believe me; he was just as surprised when he saw it in the other dimension. Dad and mum have this theory: as he moves through the world, every face he sees, whether in an interaction or just in a crowd, gets stored in his mind. When he regenerates, he has a whole databank of faces. Dad thinks that he must have run into that actor at some point in his life, and that's where he got the face from."
"That is an interesting theory," Martha said.
"And what happened to the "Harry, did you put your name in the Goblet of Fire?" line?" Sarah Jane asked in outrage, still focusing on the faults of the movie.
"Right?" Martha and Donna Noble echoed.
"That is like, the number one pet peeve of every Harry Potter fan ever," Clara said, exasperated.
"You are now officially a fan," Martha added.
"This wouldn't have happened if Ian McKellen was Dumbledore!" Donna Tyler exclaimed. "I mean, no offense to Richard Harris or Michael Gambon, but Ian would be perfect."
"He already played Gandalf," Donna Noble pointed out.
"Yes, but can you imagine a more perfect Dumbledore?"
"No," Martha agreed.
"Was the role even offered to him?" Sarah Jane asked.
"Let me check," Clara said, whipping out her phone. "It was…but he turned it down since it was too similar to Gandalf. He thought that Gandalf was a better character."
"What happened to the first Dumbledore?" Sarah Jane asked.
"Richard Harris? Let's see…" Clara searched again. "He was hospitalized with pneumonia and then diagnosed with Hodgkin's disease, a kind of cancer."
"He was good; I liked him."
"I did too," Martha said. "Too bad they couldn't have gotten him earlier in life."
Donna Tyler sat bolt upright. "They can."
"How?" Donna Noble asked. "It's already done."
"Not from our point of view."
"You're joking," Melody said.
"No, I'm not. We have a time machine. We can go back in time and get Mr. Harris, then bring him to the film set!"
"Can we do that?" Sarah Jane asked.
"Why not?"
"Time out," Martha said. "We need to think about the implications of this."
"Like?"
"Like what will happen to Michael Gambon if he doesn't get the role," Martha said pointedly.
"Or will there be increased hostility between him and Ian McKellen if he lives longer than he's intended to," Clara added, still looking through articles.
"Ok, so we'll make sure he has just enough time to finish filming the movies, but not much long after."
"You can't control a man's life like that!" Donna Noble exclaimed.
"But we can help him make the most of his final days, right?" Melody suggested.
"Going back to Michael Gambon," Donna Tyler said. "How did Harry Potter influence his career and if hurt him?"
"No," Clara said. "He had done many things prior, and not much in between or after."
"Ok, same goes for Richard Harris," Melody reminded them. "If we take him out of time, what will he miss out on?"
"When would we take him out of time?" Clara asked.
"That depends," Donna Tyler said, thinking. "How much longer would he have needed to live to complete the Harry Potter series?"
"Nine or ten years," Martha said, doing the math on her fingers. "Around 1991."
"There's a lot of films, most of them I've never heard of," Clara said. "Except Gladiator. No, that's in 2000. He'd be around at that time, right?"
"We can arrange it," Mels said. "And we can always take him back for the really important films."
"Would your dad approve?" Martha asked Donna Tyler.
"This is the man who had the Brothers Grimm on his darts team," she said. "I think he'll be fine with it."
"Great! Now come on, what are we waiting for?" Mels said.
"Albus Severus Potter, you were named after two headmasters of Hogwarts. One of them was a Slytherin, and he was the bravest man I have ever known."
"But just say that I am?"
"Then Slytherin House will have gained a wonderful young wizard. But, listen. If it really means that much to you, then you can choose Griffyndor. The Sorting Hat takes your choice into account."
"Really?"
"Really?"
"Ready?"
"Ready!"
The theater was quiet as the credits rolled. Then, slowly, the audience began to clap and cheer. Martha wiped away tears.
"It gets me every time," she said apologetically.
"No, don't say it like it's shameful," Donna Noble said. "Everyone cries."
"Sarah Jane, are you alright?" Mels asked.
"Yes, yes," she said. "It was just…wonderful!"
"Right?" Donna Tyler sighed happily.
"And that's the end?" Sarah Jane asked.
"Well, actually there's the Fantastic Beasts trilogy and the Maurader's film," Clara reminded them. "But we should wait until another day. For now, we should rejoin everyone back at the mansion."
"We do have a party tonight," Donna Tyler remembered. "To celebrate Sarah Jane's official citizenship."
"Oh, right!" Sarah Jane said. "I'd forgotten about that."
"Oh no!" Clara exclaimed. "I was going to make soufflés!"
"Don't worry, mum made cake," Donna Tyler said.
"Say no more, let's go!" Mels said, grabbing Martha and Sarah Jane.
"Danny!" Clara said in surprise. "What are you doing here?"
"The Doctor invited me over. He said there was a party and you'd be here, so I couldn't resist," Danny Pink said, smiling at her.
"Well, I'm glad you're here! Um, where is everyone?"
"I think they're starting a dance party in the entrance hall," Danny said, looking a little uncomfortable.
"Whoo hoo!" Mels said, once again running ahead.
"Yeah, they do that," Clara said.
"Get used to it, mate," Martha advised.
Laughing, Donna Tyler dragged Clara and Danny to the hall, where the Doctor was passionately singing along to "Shut Up And Dance." Martha, both Donnas, and Mels quickly jumped in.
"Oh don't you dare look back just keep your eyes on me I said you're holding back, she said…"
"SHUT UP AND DANCE WITH ME!" Rose joined in.
"This woman is my destiny, she said oh oh oh, shut up and dance with me!"
A backless dress and some beat up sneaks, my disco tea Juliet teenage dream.
Tenor dragged a reluctant Narnia into the mix. Donna thought she still looked down from earlier, and she resolved to talk to her later that night.
I felt it in my chest as she looked at me. I knew we were bound to be together, bound to be together.
"Aren't you going to ask me to dance?" Amy asked her husband.
"I don't know…"
"Oh, come on, Rory. Even Tenor and Narnia are doing it!"
She took my arm, I don't know how it happened. We took the floor and she said…
"Hallo, Donna," the Doctor said, sidling up to his daughter. "Feeling better?"
"Yes. I'm sorry about what happened earlier."
"Hard day, eh?"
"Yeah. But I'm better now."
"Mm. How was Richard Harris?"
"Fine…wait, what? How did you know?"
"You jumped ahead a bit, if you didn't notice. The Tardis was missing, and I sensed a bit of a change in the universe."
"Do you mind?"
"No, not really. I don't think it will have any major repercussions."
Deep in her eyes, I think I see the future. I realize this is my last chance. She took my arm, I don't know how it happened. We took the floor and she said…
Donna broke off from her father and ran over to the onlookers. Clara, Danny, and Sarah Jane still hadn't joined in yet.
"Come on, it's fun!" she pleaded.
"But I don't know any of these dances!" Sarah Jane insisted.
"Come on, grandma," Mels teased.
Sarah Jane's eyes widened. "Oh, no you don't!"
She ran out and joined her. Donna cast one last pointed look at Danny before following.
"Clara..." he began.
"Oh, shut up and dance," she said, pulling him out.
I said you're holding back, she said...
"Everybody!" The Doctor yelled.
"SHUT UP AND DANCE!"
Author's Note: I'm sorry, I just had to end with a dance party! Plus I needed to bring Danny Pink into the picture. He's going to become a major character soon. Anyway, this ends part 2 of Alons-y, where their adventures in the Tardis remain mostly unconnected and don't have a huge impact on their lives. From now on, each chapter builds on the other into the climax. There will be a few scattered fluff/ comedy chapters to break up the heaviness, but for the most part, we've reached the climax!
