Fionna growled, gritting her teeth. Who was this evil guy to tell her such a stupid thing? Nightmares were made to be conquered. And she would do just that with this. "You don't scare me!" She rushed at him, feeling herself move faster with each step.

She lept at him, reaching in her side pocket for the silver dagger she kept hidden there. With a flourish, she drew it from its place, sending it to slice down right where the dark things head connected with its body…

Suddenly, there was no figure right in front of her, just plain black darkness. She fell to the ground, rolling to cushion herself. When she recovered, she looked down at the hand that held the dagger. Fionna frowned. There was no dagger.

The dark image appeared in the spot Fionna was previous. "Silly girl. Weapons here cannot hurt me, they are worthless. Just like you." He shifted, and Fionna felt herself being picked up and thrown.

She grunted when she hit an invisible barrier. Crashing back down was no more fun than the last time. With a frustrated growl, she swung back to hit the stupid wall, but just hit air. She raised an eyebrow, perplexed. A wall had just been there, where had it gone? Reaching out and walking forward, she found nothing.

She whirled around to face the dark being. "Who are you?!" He smiled, showing those terribly sharp teeth. "I am Bethimul, the Demon of Fear, and you are my next victim." He raised a clawed hand, then started to slowly close it. Fionna didn't feel quite right, and then, just like last time, she was being hauled into the air.

She struggled, trying to fight the hand that was invisibly holding her there. Bethimul narrowed his too red eyes, making them seem more menacing. "Let's see if I can break you, adventurer. Let's see if you can overcome your worst fears." The blankness started to move. Fionna could actually see it start to creep as if it was a slug.

The landscape around her started to mold itself into another, taking on color, and different figures came to be. Bethimul released his hold on her, letting her land on her feet in this new dream. He shrank down, disappearing from view. "I hope you're as strong as they say, Fionna the Human."

Fionna suddenly realized that she was in the tree house. By the looks of things, it was morning time. She sighed with relief. It felt like home, even smelled like it. She shook her head, trying to clear it. "It's a dream Fionna, pull it together." She looked around herself, searching for something that came as a threat.

But it was just the usual couch and table in the living room, the ladder that led up to her and Cakes shared room, and the small kitchen. She didn't understand how this was to be a nightmare. If anything, it was comforting.

Her tranquil state was shattered by a scream. It sounded like nails being drawn across a black board. She clapped her hands over her ears, wanting the insufferable noise to stop. Then, abruptly, it was cut off.

Instantly Fionna sprang into action. She scrambled for the ladder leading up to the bedroom. The only thoughts in her head mingled with her fear and suspicions. That had been Cakes scream. Only she screamed like that, only her.

Fionna reached the top and jumped into the room, looking furiously around. But she didn't have to look far. In the center of the room laid Cake's body, her white and light brown patched fur ruffled. But it wasn't just white and brown, Fionna saw with dismay. There was red mixed in with it.

"Cake!" Fionna screamed, tears jumping into her eyes. Then, a shadowy figure appeared near the window, just a few feet away from Cake. Fionna gasped, feeling herself start to shake. It was the Litch. He turned towards Fionna, his eyes dark, their green orbs traveling across the room to her.

"Fionna," he said, his voice deep and forthcoming, "come with me child. Follow me." Fionna took a step back, her tears momentarily blinding her. "You… you killed Cake!" she screamed, clenching her hands. She willed herself not to look at her dead friend's body, knowing that more blood had probably seeped out.

He laughed, turning all the way towards her. "Yes, but that does not mean I have to kill you. Join me, and I will spare you." Fionna wrinkled her nose, taking another step towards the ladder. "You killed her," was all she could say, "You killed my sister!"

Pain and fear coursed through Fionna, making her shake with short tremors. The Litch started toward her, his hands reaching. Fionna shrieked, walking back at the same pace. He had killed her sister, the only family she had left. He had also killed Beth, the greatest adventurer ever, and had possessed Gumball.

"No," she whispered, scowling, "No, no, no! I'll… I'll kill you!" With determination, Fionna lunged for the Litch, catching him off guard. She raised her hand to punch him in the eye socket, and found that there was a sword in it.

Her sword.

She smote down with it, hitting him in the skull. He let out a small scream, then grabbed her backpack and threw her off. Fionna landed with ease, but looked back confused. She had her green back pack with her. Looking down at herself, she saw that she was in her regular clothes.

She picked up the sword, no, her sword. And suddenly it dawned on her. This is a nightmare, she thought, but it is my nightmare.

With a determined face she turned back to her unfinished business. The Litch had recovered from the blow, and was now looking at her with a surprised look. "This is my dream," Fionna said, taking a step closer, "And I control it."

She threw the sword at his head once again, letting it fly out of her hand. The Litch dodged it with ease, chuckling when it missed. Fionna drew back her hand, like grabbing something close to her body.

The sword suddenly switched directions, now coming back around for a second attack. The Litch turned to look behind him just as the sword came through his midsection, poking through his front.

He arched his back, a strangling type of sound coming from deep within his throat. Fionna pulled her hand tighter against herself, the sword now struggling to go all the way through the Litch. "I will not fall for your tricks, Bethimul."

The Litch's eyes rolled back in his head, and then, instead of him, it was Bethimul himself. Everything disappeared, the inky blackness returned, and Fionna felt herself stand taller. "How did you know?" His voice was strained slightly, holding back infinite rage.

The sword had gone with the rest of the scene, and he stood tall and dark as ever. Fionna looked to her side where Cake's body would have been. She let out a shaky breath. It was gone, thank Glob. "You can't control someone in control," she said shortly.

He narrowed his eyes, and it hit Fionna, "And you knew that, didn't you?" He growled, deep and menacing. Fionna felt like balling up into a tight ball just from the sound of the terrible noise, but she resisted the feeling.

"Bethimul, I'm not scared of you. I never was. And there isn't a darn blasted thing you can do about it." Bethimul roared, and it seemed that the entirety of Fionna mind was about to implode. She grabbed her head, closing her eyes tightly."

"Don't be so sure, human," Bethimul's voice said, anger dripping like acid, "In dreams, I may be concurred, but when I find you in the physical plain, I will not hesitate to kill you." She felt his presence receding, felt her head start to become light again.

"You have five days before I find you and kill you. Use them wisely."
