That Thing

Gomez sat in front of a chess board one afternoon. It was his favorite board, he owned several. This one featured the Knights of the Spanish Inquisition. He moved the bishop piece two places. Then the sentient hand across from him moved the queen and took that bishop.

"Good move," Gomez said with a nod. "I can't believe I'm losing to a hand."

Thing gave a thumbs up.

"No need to get cocky about it."

Gomez and Fester had created Thing when they were kids. One of their neighbors lost a hand in an attempted murder, which they were regretfully not involved in. They took the hand after being inspired by Dr. Frankenstein and on a stormy night they had given it life. Now many years later Thing was one of his best friends and biggest confidant.

"I want to do something special for Tish, Thing," he said.

Thing pointed out the window.

"We always make love in the graveyard," he said. "It has to be something big."

Thing made a flying gesture.

"A trip would be nice," Gomez said thoughtfully. "It's about time for our next honeymoon after all. She did want to see the haunted remains of the Roman exorcisms.

Thing made another gesture.

"You're quite a dirty minded thing aren't you?"

Later that evening, Morticia had just gotten home from shopping with Ophelia. As soon as Gomez saw her he swept her into his arms for a warm embrace and a loving kiss.

"I've missed you so much querida."

"I've missed you too mon amour."

"Tish, that's French!"

"Oui," she said with a satisfied smile as he kissed her even more. Then almost subconsciously they began to fall into a dance. "I bought something special to show you."

"What is it?"

"You'll have to wait until tonight to find out," she said with a knowing smirk.

He hoped it was lingerie. His heart fluttered at the thought of her sexy curvy body in lace and silk. He held her closer as they moved across the living room floor. "What do you think of going to Rome mi preciosa? I know you wanted to see the exorcism remains."

"I'd love that darling!" She said happily. "It can be our next honeymoon."

She was so beautiful when she got excited. He kissed her nose. "I'll book us a flight as soon as possible."

All of a sudden the lights dimmer and romantic music started playing. Gomez looked up and found Thing adjusting the lights. Leave it to Thing to do something so unexpected.
